Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is the most exceptional restaurant we've been to in Southern California. The food, the service, the ambience...all unparalleled. The last time we dined there, we ordered the 7 course chef's menu with wine pairing. (How do people get through the 9 course?!) The wines chosen for each course were perfect. Our experience was very relaxed and enjoyable. Some people have described Addison as stuffy. I disagree! The wait staff are warm and informative. The kitchen is beautiful and pristine (you can peek in there if you ask the staff). Highly recommended to those who take their food experiences seriously!"

  • "We decided to do the 9 course chef selection and it was incredible. I tasted things I wouldn't normally order and ate everything."

  • "1. Best service I have ever had in a restaurant! 2. Amazing and unique food lives up to the 5 star rating! 3. We opted for the wine pairings with dinner courses. I was surprised to see that we were charged $175 each to have about 6 small glasses of generally cheap wine. Almost every wine was $20-50 retail cost. It just did not do the food justice and was inappropriate given the cost. I suggest do not take a chance on a wine pairing and just order from the extensive 3500 choice wine list yourself!! The food was amazing and it was the best service I have ever had. Shame the wine overshadowed this otherwise amazing experience."

  • "We found Addison to be massively overrated. We are definitely foodies and love a good meal. Several of our courses were good (some were not), but nothing that we had here was overwhelmingly delicious or memorable. All of our servers were excellent except our main server, who can only be described as snooty. He seemed to dismiss us quickly, which detracted from our experience. I honestly would not recommend Addison even if it offered a bargain meal, but to pay $400--well, I simply cannot divorce value from quality, and there was no value here (and quality was middling). Critics who have awarded Addison five stars need to reevaluate. Addison is an interesting "experience," but for good food, look elsewhere."

  • "The level of service and exquisiteness of food is just beyond expectation."

  • "I took my wife to the Addison for her birthday and was not disappointed in any way. We had the 7 course tasting menu. The food was exquisite and the service equally special. Wine options were broad even though we chose to partake by the glass. Food portions were just right and we did not leave hungry, which can happen at upscale French restauants. You pay for good food, service and surroundings so think of it as NYC in a "nicer and quieter" SoCal setting."

  • "I will make this a very simple review.....too SALTY. The sauces for all the courses were TOO SALTY! Food and creativity is excellent but the taste of food is overpowered by SALT! Service and decor is TOP GRADE!"

  • "Our servers went out of their way to make sure every detail was sought after and every question we had was answered. Could not have asked for better servers!!!! Food was FANTASTIC!!! Went in thinking I'd have to stop somewhere afterwards for a snack or a small meal, but I left full to the brim!!!! Quality of every piece was exquisite. Definitely looking forward to the next time I can dine here."

  • "I've been fortunate enough to eat at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants (Le Bernadin, Jean Georges, Marea, etc.), and this was undoubtedly the best meal I've had in the U.S. In terms of sourcing and execution, the food was perfect."

  • "Virtually flawless dining experience. Beautiful works of art on a plate."

  • "The food here is nothing short of amazing! The only negative is you're gonna shell out a large sum of cash to have the recommended meal. So, if you don't mind spending a small fortune on dinner, it's a great meal!"

  • "It is a meal I will never forget! It was excellence at it's highest form in culinary experience and service. Our 14th anniversary was marked with an evening with my husband that we both still talk about."

  • "Service excellent, wine pairings fantastic, food was not up to my expectations. Overall just OK"

  • "We decided to do the four course meal because we had to drive and could not do the wine pairings even though we really wanted to. The four course was excellent! We had a glass of champagne before dinner and had red wine with dinner. The ambience is very romantic, our server came to greet us and presented the dinner options. We had several servers come to our table to set the silverware for each meal. Our server was very sweet, we told her we were just visiting San Diego for the weekend. We asked about places that we could go to; She brought another one of the servers over to help us find things to do, we left there with a big smile on our face from dinner, drinks and a list of places to explore in San Diego. We had a wonderful time there."

  • "This was our second experience at Addison and it equaled the first, which is to say approaching perfection. From start to finish, we were treated like royalty. The dining space is beautiful, positively baronial in splendor, the food is wonderful and the service impeccable. We have the good fortune to be able to dine at very nice restaurants all over the country and overseas. Addison need not take a backseat to any other restaurant. We spend a month or two in the San Diego area each year and this has become a "must.""

  • "Celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary and it's TRULY AN EXPERIENCE. A personalized card from the chef waiting on our table. Service was exquisite. Ambiance is warm & cozy and the interiors were elegant & gorgeous. We're not really wine afficionados so the husband had jack & coke and I opted to order mon amour. It was just a bummer that I have a terrible headache that night or I might have ordered a second one. We had the 7course tasting menu, so yes, every course is a surprise. The salmon w/ toasted kale, charred scallions, salmon roe & porcini-scented dashi and white sturgeon confit with caviar & spinach were a few of the courses that stood out. The kobe beef was overpoweringly salty and perhaps our least favorite course of the night."

  • "The four of us have been to a lot of excellent restaurants in our lives, but we all agreed that this was above and beyond anything any of us had previously experienced. Now I understand why we were told that this is the only 5-star restaurant in San Diego, and what that means. The food was absolutely incredible, we had the 8-course dinners."

  • "We loved Chef William Bradley's 7 course menu for Valentines day. Jason suggested excellent wines to go our different courses and we had a wonderful and memorable evening."

  • "The prix fixe dinner for $100 was excellent, and a great value for the meal. The sauces were a tad salty. Service was impeccable, and the staff didn't hover over you at all during the meal. One complaint was that the "house glass of wine" was $40 per glass. I think the staff should have discussed this pricing with the patron prior to ordering, especially when most think a house glass would be $10-$20. Other than that, we will return again and again for special occasions- a real treat, but I'll grab a glass of wine in the Hotel bar before dinner next time ;)"

  • "Though it was not my first time at Addison, this is my first review. My husband and I are huge foodies and Addison is superb at meeting all of our qulifications; foodie fit, fabulous wines, outstanding service, and a scotch heaven (for my husband). We gladly endured the 7 course menu and Chef William Bradley has our praises. My favorite course was the poached egg with shaved black truffles - I was in heaven and still dream about it. And for those who are nervous about the price... it is WELL worth it. You pay for what you get.... and tastebud heaven is worth the $175. Cheers!"

  • "This is a wonderful experience. Food and service are great. Save for a special occasion. No fast food her. This is meant to be savor end. Wonderful wine list. Four course meal has an extraordinary variety and blend of flavors."

  • "Food was great, prices have escalated ($75 corkage) and service was slow at times. My wine glass was empty a couple of times and at that price - shouldn't be. This was our second time and we loved the first time so much, we tried again. Not sure we will return."

  • "Everyone said we would be blown away by the food, ambiance and service. With a buildup like that it could only go one place...and it did. There are not enough superlatives to describe the creativity and quality of the food. The coddled egg with shaved black truffles was the favorite, although the short rib was also outstanding. Fish courses featured a combination of flavors with the freshest fish to make for excellent courses. Yes it is expensive, but you are not eating there everyday. Only regret is that we had drinks at the hotel first and nibbled on a few too many nuts and olives. Hit a wall on the last few courses due to this. We brought wine, but their wine list is extensive and has a range of prices. Go there!!"

  • "Everything about the Addison is top notch. My fiance and I were very impressed and loved every minute of it, until we got the bill. But even then it was absolutely worth every penny. Fantastic experience and glad we went."

  • "This was a lovely surprise! Addison provided the best dining experience I have enjoyed in San Diego thus far. A must go for foodies. Imbued with a worldly flair, the chefs tasting menu was sophisticated and appropriately portioned. The wine pairings were wonderful but our supplemental bottle truly exquisite. The servers were professional as well as lively and informative once engaged. Anticipating my next visit!"

  • "The food was exquisite and service was very good. Our complaint was the rigidness of the menu. One person at the table wanted the six-course tasting menu and the other four did not. They would not allow this because they wanted everone to enjoy courses together. At one point, two people at the table were eating the cheese course while two were sitting with nothing. Then the situation reversed when the other two had dessert."

  • "We reserved on opentable on Wednesday and received a call from the addison on Friday to confirm and were told we could bring 1 bottle of wine and the corkage would be $50. when we arrived we were impressed by the 5 star service. the wine director came and told us what a great bottle we had brought in but would not be able to open it since they carried the exact same bottle on their menu. we explained that we had taken Uber and were not planning on going home and had after dinner plans that we would be late if we were to go home and drop the wine.. we asked if way could pay extra or make an exception. she said no and that it would be at the front desk. after this we were pretty upset. the food was above average but not worth a $1200 tab."

  • "The food was quite good but a great dining experience is more than good food. We were immediately put off by their conceit of having a bare table with just plain white dishes -- no glasses, no silverware, no napkin, no flower(s) on the table. According to the waiter, the idea is to start with a blank canvas that gets filled in. We ordered very expensive champagne and no food was served with it--not good if you don't want to drink on an empty stomach. There were other things that took away from our expensive meal being a great experience. Our $450 with tip meal was not worth it to us but not out of line in comparison with other high end restaurants. Open Table comments are space limited. See my review on Yelp for more details."

  • "Had the 8 Course selection. Favorite course....the poached egg with pork belly and prosciutto....it took eggs to a level I never imagined. The duck dish was fantastic. The cheese plate had to be the best selection of cheese I have ever experienced. The downside.....the macaroon was good but at the end the other deserts were marginal at best. I would say the courses started with a bang ending on a disappointment. With a very reasonably priced bottle of Sekt and then one wine pairing and tip it was nearly $800 for two. I would put Addison on a bucket list but not to be repeated. Great wait staff ....wonderful service....amazing ambience but for the price of nearly $400 per person there are other choices even for special occasions."

  • "What a way to start off 2014! Addison's offered up an amazing 7 course "tasting menu" meal that allowed for several individual choices along the way, each wonderfully prepared and presented by the attentive wait staff. The incredible ambiance, outstanding service and impeccably prepared food at Addison"s is unmatched anywhere in San Diego! We have already decided we will continue this tradition next New Year's Eve as well."

  • "The first time we dined at Addison, we rated it five stars in every category and recommended it to everyone. The second time , we were a bit disappointed--perhaps we chose the wrong dishes. Also, the service didn't match our first experience. The second and third times, we loved it; the food was spectacular and the whole experience overall was outstanding; although service (only in certain respects) were very good. This past dinner, the whole experience was quick; a couple of food choices a bit disappointing; but we could have had better guidance from the waiter. Most of the people were absolutely fantastic. This restaurant is really special, the food most of the time is unmatched...certain servers need to improve their approach."
