A word from Adara
Restaurant adara will be closing it's doors to the public on Saturday, November 9th. We thank you sincerely for your patronage, your support, and the priceless memories we made here in the last 2 years. We hope that the dining experience here comforted, stimulated, and satiated our guests.
I was always clear from the day we opened that we were on a 2 ½ year lease and that we would use the Montclair model to attract an investment group that would move this concept to a central location in a major metropolis. I believe that this concept deserves to be amongst the best in order to achieve the proper notoriety and attention in modern gastronomy.
Please come down to the restaurant for your last “adara experience” before we close here in Montclair and let's celebrate the ending of this chapter as well as the beginning of the next for Restaurant adara!
Peace and Blessings,
Chef Tre Ghoshal

This restaurant is closing in two months so it has no menu. Basically, you have a choice of a 5 or 10 tasting menu and you aren't told what you'll be served. I wish I had known this, I would not have gone.

Two wino friends and I had dinner last Saturday, and we thoroughly enjoyed their 10-course tasting menu. The chef also added a couple of more dishes for a total of 12-14 -- I lost count after the third and last dessert course. I would say that only one (the pate) didn't work for me, and the sous vide of filet could have used a different cut of beef for the cooking method. At least 8-10 dishes were very good to excellent and just a couple were okay. All were beautifully presented. We were surprised that the restaurant didn't have more people. We liked the extra attention. The glassware for our wines that we brought were excellent. You would pay at least three times the amount if this place was in NYC. Enjoy now before it's too late.

This was a birthday dinner for my wife and we chose the 5 course tasting. Fortunate for us because the other patrons who chose the 10 course were sitting, waiting, eating for 4 hours. service is slow as every course is prepared individually. it's a creative meal and worth a try.

This is one of the best restaurants and most exciting experiences I have ever had. They have several levels of "tasting menus" and I chose vegetarian. The food was delicious for each of the 5 courses and it was artisticly presented. The service was more than outstanding - very attentive, cleaning the area after each selection, not to mention being courteous and gracious. Don't be fooled by the draped exterior which is dark and appears to be closed - they are open at 5:00 or 5:30 and you need to reserve to let them know iwhich menu you prefer. It is definitely high end and I would love to see it stay in that location in Montclair. DO try it! You will not be disappointed. Everything was 5 star - just bring your own wine.

My wife and I ate at Adara Friday night. We have been there three or four times over the last few years but this was out first visit this year. Formerly, the restaurant's style embraced the molecular gastronomy style but now has moved to a more conventional approach. The food was great. Better than anything we have had in Monclair. The services was also great.

A friend of mine was visiting from out of town and we randomly picked Adara from Open Table. What an amazing find! It is a quiet place so better for couples or small groups. The food was so beautiful to look at and the tastes of each course were spectacular. The Chef is truly a culinary artist! The artistry of his paring of different ingredients were like explosions of flavor in your mouth. I would HIGHLY recommend people to try Adara!

This was our 3rd visit, and every time it is different and exciting. The little details are perfect in the food and the decor. Every plate looks and tastes beautiful, and you will not leave hungry. Plan for 3+ hours of eating in good company and bring your own wine to enjoy with the conversation between dishes. This is an entire dining experience. Naomi is also incredible and makes wonderful recommendations, and really knows her stuff. Some of the food is a little weird, but there are options for those more and less adventurous types. This place is excellent for a romantic date or small group experience. It's very chill and relaxed, and while it's nice to dress to impress, you don't need to feel uptight.

The 3 course tasting menu was amazing. I was really surprise and sad to see that there were only 2 tables occupied in the restaurant. I moved from Manhattan to NJ and have been dying to see variety and culinary variety in NJ and finally we found Adara. I hope they advertise and promote this restaurant more because the food was amazing and it would be sad to see it go.

Had an incredible dinner at Adara. Each course was incredible and created with attention to detail, and wonderful layers of flavor. I highly recommend the lamb entree and the saucisson appetizer. They surprised us throughout the dinner with different amuse bouches between courses which were so creative and delicious. Some of the best flavors paired together that I've ever experienced. If you are a foodie that likes experiencing new flavors and restaurants, Adara is a must!

I had seen the chef be eliminated on Chopped and thought that although he did not win, he was willing to take chances and be interesting and exciting with his dishes. His restaurant did not disappoint. We ordered from the 3 Course Menu and were pleasantly surprised to receive 2 amuse bouches and an intermezzo, along with the 3 course meal. Each dish was spectacular in appearance and taste. If you are a foodie, this place is perfect. It is less expensive than WD-50, doesn't require a trip to NYC and the food is fun, playful and delicious. To me, it is the best meal in Montclair.

Each dish will surprise & get you excited to taste every bit on the plate, & you get several amuse bouche that will compliment and fill your belly...you won't leave hungry! It's all a little experimental and will present flavors and textures that are new to you, so don't be surprised if there are bits you love, and bits you could do without. But overall it's about the experience and trying something new. Of the 4 people at the table, the Maryland Crab parfait lacked the special touch and just didn't go down as well, but the Havana Banana and Nougat Glace were to die for, the lamb was an experience in presentation and flavor, and the thai basil daiquiri was a perfect addition. Don't forget to bring some wine! Good food takes time.

From the website I was really intrigued. Did the 5 course small plate testing, the plates were visually stunning but the taste was lacking. Nothing I tasted was inpressive or flavorful. Also waiting 35 minutes+ in between courses and being there a total of 3.5+ hours was tiring. As there were only 2 other couples present. I think if there was less wait between courses and if at least one course could have a carb or heavy component it might have helped. There is another menu besides the tasing menu-maybe that one is better?

This is an ambitious and expensive restaurant that offers a creative, interesting menu served in an unremarkable ambience by a young, attractive and attentive wait staff. On a Friday evening in which there were only four other couples we were only offered the possibility of a fixed menu offering an appetizer, entree and dessert at the fixed price of $65 (coffee, tea, taxes and tip are not included),a questionable value. Food was served on lovely plates with stylish, elegant silverware. The choices were extensive and nicely done,a culinary treat. Portions were modest but were supplemented by several very nice tapas (for lack of a better word). This restaurant would be better served by an al la Carte menu.

Very innovative, generous and friendly. Chef's expertize seem to be in innovative small dishes based on the various cuisines of the whole World with very modern interpretation. They, themselves call it "American cuisine" - it is "The World Cuisine" (and in a good sense). Menu revolves around prix-fix set of courses: you'll definitely get more than just listed items, very generous. Plenty of little surprises. Service was amazing spot-on for us. Very proper, friendly and helpful but not intrusive and overbearing.

Overpriced, pretentious, and not nearly as good as all their hype would have you believe. The menu has zero explanations for the weird, if original, combinations of food. That requires the waitperson to explain every dish to every table. Odd choices like (cold) foie gras with buffalo chicken sauce don't work well, in my opinion. Minimalist decor means space is noisy even though it was not very full. I would not recommend.

This is the 3rd time we've been to Adara. The first 2 times it was great and this time nothing really blew me away but it was good. The 3 course tasting offers plenty to eat as there are several amuse bouches in addition to the menu items. However, a difference this time was that they now have a NJ wine license and are charging a $10 corkage fee for your first bottle of wine which is just not done in Montclair BYOs. We were not happy about that!

I thought a lot more of this place from reviews I've read, than when I actually ate there. The outside of the restaurant is not well lit and difficult to find @ night. My wife and I had a 7:30 reservation but did not leave until 10pm, due to the way they space out the meals. My entree was a little cold, @ best, when it arrived at our table. My wife and I don't drink alcohol and unless you want a $10.00 mocktail or different kinds of water, you will be very thirsty b/c they do not offer soda. The most disappointing part of the experience was the ambience. It felt like eating @ my mom's home, on a regular night. I kept telling my wife they should do something more w/ the interior, b/c it was very bland.

We went to Adara for Valentine's Day. We had a 6:00 reservation, and didn't leave the restaurant until 9:30. Given they had a five course prix fixe, and therefore only 10 items to prepare, I can't imagine why we suffered through over a half hour between each course. Once served, the food itself would have been enjoyable had it not been luke warm. The waitstaff was unapologetic, to the point that they refused to serve wine by the glass (they only sell bottles of a local NJ wine), even though we had long run out of the bottle we had brought. The only saving grace was that the whole experience was so bad, it was almost comic. Overall, the best thing about Adara is that is made me appreciate not being at Adara.

Made a last minute reservation so only had the three-course option. Several interesting and delicious amuse-bouches and palate cleansers (nitrous oxide bread, oyster and sorbet)were offered by the chef between courses. These were definitely a pleasant surprise. We ordered the menage a foie and smokey forest for appetizer, both of which were a little underwhelming with weird textures. For the main course, the korean bbq pork belly and petit poulet were both amazing. Dessert was the color purple and fig newton, which were also underwhelming and combined flavors that, in our opinion, did not work well together. Overall, an ok entry into the world of molecular gastronomy. I would go back for the 5 or 7-course meals.

I'm tempted to split my review into two parts: 1) Ambiance, service, visual appeal,... 2) Food When the two of us arrived, we were warmly greeted by the staff who was both pleasant and very professional. I was impressed but the waitress' description of the menu choices without having to read off a cheat sheet! The dinner started with some amuse bouche delights that were both visually appealing and very tasty. They included such delicacies as oysters on the half shell raw and in a tempura batter. A good start, I thought. When the first course was brought - I had the Menage a Fois - I loved how it looked but was disappointed by the absence of real flavor. The main course, a pork belly dish also looked great but didn't taste great.

On New Year's Eve, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining here and trying their 5-course menu. Each course had a vegetarian option, which was great for my wife. My favorite course was the filet mignon slider with truffle fries while my wife enjoyed the chef's take on vegetarian sushi (complete with some smoking theatrics). The service was good and able to answer all questions about the food and preparation. We've been to WD~50 before and saw the molecular master at work - and while Adara is not quite at that level, it offers similar style, close to our house and at a good price. We'll be back to try a different tasting menu in the future for sure.

Key plates for us was the Smokey Forest, Crimson and Clove, NE Clam Chowder. The only problem we had was A very loud group that was next to us being disruptive, mean to the server.(These people next to us does not know what fine dining is!) Really poor attention to guest experience. Chef/Owner actually called the police because they could not handle a dispute with one of their tables. Ruined our experience and several others. You could hear the Chef screaming in the kitchen from the dining room. Time between courses 45+ min. We were there 3hrs and had only completed 4 of 7 courses. We left when the police wrecked what was left of the mood. No credit on our bill for the inconvenience. Go visit quickly - while they're still in business.

Read many different reviews including the one in New York Times, that raved about the phenomenal food and creativty. We were so disappointed. Too many combinations of flavors on the plate, too "many elements", bottom line chef is trying too hard to make it special. Food was subpar, would never recommend it unless you had 175.00 burning a hole in your pocket. Much better restaurants in Montclair, perhaps with some fine tuning it can improve. My husband always says that the bread served at the beginning of each meal will determine the rest of the experience at a restaurant. Boy was he right, we should have turned around and hit the door after we got the nitrogen infused slice of bread at the beginning of our meal.
