Diner Reviews
  • "Had a nice Monday dinner here to celebrate my birthday. Great deal on three courts fixed price menu!!"

  • "we had a lovely sunday evening meal here - terrific variety of fresh, creative food - beautifully presented. extensive beer list (draught), too - but we were disappointed to find we were paying $7-10 for a beer and it was rather small vs. a pint. not the worst thing in the world, of course, but it was a bit of a "really"?? nice place for a group gathering but it was NOISY! we'll go again because the food was very yummy!"

  • "All four of us were extremely please with our experience at ACRE. We ordered small plates and each one was wonderfully different and skillfully prepared. Our server was friendly, unobtrusive and not in the least pretentious, as so many are today! He didn't try to upsell us either which was a welcome relief. We will definitely return."

  • "This was the fourth time I have dined here in the past six months and this time I brought two other couples to join us."

  • "Acre is an aesthetically pleasing farm to table restaurant in Andersonville. The have an attractive menu for appetizers (mussels and crab cakes), to entrees. They have a terrific drink selection (basically what I would expect from any newer establishment) that includes wines, and all the local craft beer. They are known for their oyster bar, though my party did not select it, we had the mussels and crab cakes instead, which were both excellent. I had the pork burger, based on a review from Thrillist, and it did not disappoint. Andersonville is a little tough to get to, but it is nice to have an excuse to go there because it is a lot of fun, and Acre is that excuse."

  • "Acre has a great oyster selection and decent food and beverage menu. We sampled the oysters and ordered a few small plates which were well thought out and tasty. Seating is cramped and the noise level is loud so this is a great place for groups or a couple of friends but probably not for people looking for intimate conversation. Service was good. Be prepared to search for parking on weekends as that can be a bit hard to find on a Friday or Saturday night. Overall a very good experience. I will return."

  • "Good food. Portions range from "OK" to "WOW, big!" The Oyster selection is fantastic. Service is also great."

  • "This is the fourth time I have been to Acre and it continues to shine. Oysters were great (4 varieties), a great beer selection and superb entrees. It is a great neighborhood (Andersonville) spot."

  • "More than impressed with Acre! Food was great, service was better and the location (Andersonville) is awesome!"

  • "The menu is interesting and intriguing although the items we tried fell short of our expectations. We tried a variety of the small plates and although nothing was wrong with them they were all very average. Although I made a reservation 3 week ahead we were given a table squeezed between 2 other tables literally an inch or two apart. It was as though we were eating with those two other tables. The service was fine but for the most part absent. I expected more."

  • "After searching for a special restaurant for Valentines Day and lucked upon Acre in one of my favorite Chicago neighborhoods. There was a friendly welcome and an agreement to our choice of booth, followed by a most agreeable table attendant offering order suggestions which proved to be spot on for taste. The small plate menu allow for a tasting of many choices, which were interesting given that they were not the usual found on most menus. The cost is moderate, including a choice of wine flights. The flights however, were too similar in taste."

  • "I went here with a bunch of friends from my college days (yay reunions)! All of the food was delicious and there was something to satisfy everyone's palette. The service was great and the atmosphere was charming. I would totally go back again."

  • "I don't know why I've never been to Acre before, but once I found out they took reservations, I was onboard. Cute place. Good food. I'd go back!"

  • "Went here for brunch with my parents and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu offered options for my health-conscious mom, my meat-and-potatoes dad and my "foodie" [ugh, I hate that term] self. The food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. I had not expected such excellent food and was, thus, pleasantly surprised! The server was attentive without hovering and quite charming. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We went for happy hour for their $1 oysters. They always have 4 types of oysters.best way to try them all. Great service always. Will definitely come back. Great deal, great atmosphere. Fun place to meet friends and hang out."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful time! Great food and some drink favorites that made this an excellent neighborhood place to end the work week."
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "Portions seemed to have gotten a bit smaller and the porkburger has changed things up somewhat. Still a great place to visit...but you never know the sustainability of a place in the city of Chicago. GO VISIT ACRE!"

  • "we made a meal of the small plates so that we could try a bunch of different things, really great!"

  • "The oysters were tasty, descent draught beer list, but the rest of the meal was kinda meh. Not bad in any way but nothing really memorable either. If I lived in the neighborhood I would go back for the beer and oysters for sure, but it's not worth the trek otherwise. Funny, because I remember really liking bar ombra and considered that a restaurant I would go back to - aren't they owned by the same people/company? Our waiter was super friendly and helpful."

  • "Loved the bar area for drinks and dining. The bartender knows how to translate your taste preferences into a perfect recommendation. Table service was friendly and attentive and when prompted, added light enjoyable banter to the evening. We ordered three small plates that sadly were just average; the flatbread being our favorite. I would go back for the excellent service. I'll try ordering something different. Andersonville is a great neighborhood."

  • "Great service and ambience. Wish there were options for non-carnivores."

  • "Everything was tasty but the price was a little steep. The room is very small and dominated by an very large bar. I would consider coming back."

  • "Met a friend here for dinner and stayed 3 hours--we had so much fun. Food was delish and our server, Mike was the BEST! Definitely going back"

  • "I ate at Acre soon after it first opened and found it a disappointed. That has a few years back now, with they made the physical restaurant and the fact they it has had some staying power I decided to give it another try. Incredible improvement, the food was some of the best tasting food I've had in a while and the decor of the restaurant is much improved from the original state. I'll came back."

  • "We probably hit Acre on a bad night. The food was very good. Service started out great but dwindled. I think he just had too many tables. After our oyster order (he placed quickly because of price before 7:00) he took a long time to come back and take even drink orders. The real problem came when we ordered something taking 30 minutes. The 30 minutes dragged on to an hour. We found out that there was a computer problem. We finally decided to leave, we had been there in total well over 2 hours. Instead of the check he finally brought out our order. We refused. The maitre'd apologized. He should have offered us something. He didn't.To add insult we got a $50 parking ticket!.If I find myself back in Andersonville I may give it a second chance."

  • "My husband and I had dinner on a Friday night. The menu is interesting with many items that are not typical or everyday fare. However, the waiter we had did not seem to understand it very well. I ordered a salad, which I asked to be served first, to be followed by one of their "small plates." My husband ordered what he thought was an appetizer, to be followed by a main course. Instead, we had all dishes arrive at the same time with complete surprise from the staff that it should be any different. Our waiter seemed to spend most of his time in an another area of the restaurant, as it was very difficult to find him to either order drinks or pay the check. Management needs to work on some staff training issues."

  • "We have been coming here for years, and even when they divided the space in half the food quality has been excellent. The place has always been well-managed and the waitstaff has always been fun. Highly recommended."

  • "Acre should seriously consider valet parking because we won't return until that is offered. My husband drove around for 20 minutes before he found a space this past Friday night. Food was pretty good. My trout dinner was excellent; his swordfish was okay. Good dessert and appetizers."
    Dined on 11/8/2013
  • "They have a very good beer list and I enjoyed the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. The swordfish tasted a bit fishy, and the portions were a little light."

  • "I've tried Acre three times and each time the service was REALLY poor. It's a shame considering it's great location, and food selection."
    Dined on 5/16/2013
  • "It's the 2nd time I was at Acre. I was hoping the food would be better. Service is always good, though. My flatbread tasted like a frozen pizza. The chicken liver mousse was average and more like a bruschetta. Pork tacos were average. Not a ton of flavor. Good beer & wine list, but not enough to make me want to go back for the food."
    Dined on 10/11/2013
  • "Loved the oysters! Great beer selection, too. Don't forget to try the fried smelts with alio dip. Friendly waitstaff."
