Diner Reviews
  • "met friends there for brunch on sunday. bottomless mimosas rock! Morgan was her usual charming self and provided us with excellent service."

  • "I'm a native Texan, so I'm pretty particular about my BBQ, but for DC, Acre 121 did an admirable job. The chipotle BBQ sauce has a nice smoky kick to it, and the brisket I ordered was tender and flavorful. On the appetizers, we opted for the hushpuppies (I'm a sucker for hush puppies), and they were good, but not great. They had a hint of sweetness (which I liked) but overall they were a little bland. If you're feeling like some cornbread, and really, why would you not, I'd instead recommend their jalapeno cornbread which was quite tasty. Again, they added a little sweetness to the cornbread which paired wonderfully with a little heat from the jalapeno. Finally, try and save room for desert because the peanut butter pie is a must."

  • "My Server was fantastic and had an extensive knowledge of the menu. I feel like my party was closing the place down between dinner and bar scene, but we did not feel any pressure to leave the restaraunt."

  • "We chose acre 121 initially because it had an extremely attractive bottomless brunch option, for which you could choose regular orange, grapefruit, cranberry or pineapple mimosas. we went with a group of 5 so we each just got a flavor then mixed and matched. Though the drinks brought us there, the eggs chesapeake and low country benedict got it 5 stars from me. The crab in the eggs chesapeake was phenomenal and I always love pork belly, which was the star ingredient in the low country benedict. Our server was also fantastic, energetic and helpful. An excellent experience I will probably be repeating."

  • "We came for the bottomless mimosas and they did not disappoint. The food was plain but good and the portions were sizable. The real highlight was the mimosas that our waitress kept bringing before we'd even finished the last carafe. The availability of juice flavors other than orange was a welcome change. Overall a great experience and a good deal for the price."

  • "The service and food was good. I thought it was a lot nicer, more of a 4/5 start restaurant due to the price. The food was really good, just a bit over with the price. The overall experience was really good, however not good ambiance for kids."

  • "The food was way over priced for what we got. Nothing too special! the grilled tofu was something I could easily make at home. The Bar-b-que sauce that came with it was way too watery. The fried pickles were nothing special. We liked the outdoor seating. Not too crowded. The bar next door was much busier. The food is overpriced for what you get."

  • "We have been here before for brunch for two. This time we tried 12. It was harder to be managed. The waiter was a bit scared of the size and didn't take care of us instantly. Maybe he was scared and stayed away? We had to rush later to be ready for our next commitment. Also they apparently "just added the steak" so we weren't allowed to order it. Last time we went, the HAD steak on there and we DID order it. Maybe just not for groups? This SHOULD not happen and if you change the menu the day before, it should still have ALL items included (or add $1 for "fancy things"). I told everyone in advance about the amazing steak and people were totally looking forward to it- Bummer! All in all food was great but drinks could have been more quickly."

  • "I love pretty much everything about Acre121. The location, food, atmosphere, service and bottomless mimosas in different flavors. The only criticism is the food takes a little long to come out. But if you're enjoying great conversation with family or friends, you hardly notice."

  • "We had brunch. The service and environment were great. Very cool vibe, nice outdoor patio, expansive bar. But our group was disappointed with our meals. The pulled pork BBQ sandwich had overly sweet, chunky meat. The chicken biscuit was surprisingly bland. The biscuits with gravy were heavy, under-portioned, and light on the sausage. The home fries were bland and smushy. And the "seasonal fruit" was all melon. Overall, the ambiance made up for a lot, but next time we'll be going for a drink at the bar instead of a meal."

  • "We came in with a very large (18ppl) and, admittedly, rambunctious group for brunch on Saturday. They were excellent. The chef worked with one guest with a food allergy to make a dish that would work for her. The food was all very good and everybody left fat and happy. The server, Chris, did an excellent job of keeping everybody fed and carafes of mimosas flowing. The manager was also very nice and helpful when we were checking out. As an added bonus, she comped my husband's soft drink because he does not drink alcohol (he gets so happy when establishments do this!). Thank you, Acre 121! We will not hesitate to make a reservation here the next time we have a large group for brunch!"

  • "We came for dinner and had a ball! The patio was open and not too crowded. The server advised of us late night happy hour that was starting shortly. We ordered and had a ball. The music on Sunday was GREAT!"

  • "Brunch at Acre 121 is always a great experience. Morgan our server was delightful and very attentive to our needs. The Chesapeake Benedict and the bottomless mimosas really are a great combo. Perfect place to people-watch too with the hustle & bustle of the Mount Pleasant neighborhood."

  • "We reserved a table outside for brunch. It was close to the live music, but the music wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear each other, so that was good. Our server was really nice and kept the bottomless mimosas flowing. My friends ordered the chicken and waffles and seemed to like them a lot. I was a bit frustrated that they wouldn't do an egg white omelet even though they have eggs any style on the menu. Just seemed like they didn't want to accommodate that request, which was annoying. If it had been really busy, I'd have understood, but it wasn't. One of my friends also had to get up and ask for condiments because the server didn't bring them out when we asked. Little things, yes, but they take away from the overall experience. "

  • "After enjoying the WONDERFUL food I gave this restaurant a poor score based entirely on the service. My guest and I arrived at 630pm on a Saturday. I observed that only one server was covering the entire restaurant. Not surprising that our order came out incorrectly, and the only beer I ordered came to the table 30 minutes after I ordered it. When I offered my thoughts to the manager she said " what are you going to do, you can have one person make a $100 or 5 people make $20", her answer as to why only one server was staffed. I pointed out that Yelp and OT reviewers panned her restaurant for its service she said "I don't put much stock in those reviews". I asked what she did put stock in, she said "we are more of a brunch place". Shameful."

  • "Was excited to try out this BBQ place in DC, but was disappointed. I ordered a meat platter which consisted of two slices of nearly inedible beef brisket, and about a cup of pulled pork that was cold when I took the first bite. The brisket was so chewy, I could barely finish one piece. They took the plate back and brought out a new one with the pork hot, but the brisket just as bad as the first go around. I did enjoy the Southern greens with pork and the cheddar grits as my sides, but the entree was weak! Too bad as the service, ambiance, and location are very nice."

  • "We waited for 45-60 minutes for our food which was terrible. I had the eggs benedict and it wasn't cooked correctly the eggs werent even running. Waiter never came back to ask us if we need anything else or how the food was. It took almost 15 minutes for him to ask my husband if he wanted more water. The quickest service we received was when we asked for the check. I will not recommend or go again."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant after reading other reviews and looking at the menu online. However, the service was bad: it took 10 minutes after seating for anyone to offer water. In addition, after taking our order, our waitress never checked on us. It took another 5-10 minutes after finishing our meal to find someone to bring the check. The food itself was okay, but nothing special. Nothing to recommend making any effort to go back to this restaurant. The pricing is also confusing; there are 2 prices for the mimosas. I ordered 1 carafe to share with a friend. I was told the higher price was for the carafe. On the bill, I was charged for 2 carafes. I was told this was the per person price for the "unlimited" mimosa option. "

  • "I really enjoyed brunch here on Easter Sunday. The restaurant is conveniently located (steps from metro) in Columbia Heights. I'm guessing this place is either relatively new or a hidden gem because it was relatively easy to get a last-minute reservation on Easter Sunday; yet the food was fabulous! There was a nice, diverse crowd -- steady business, fantastic food, and great staff! And it was comfortable. I'll definitely be back sometime to try the dinner and catch one of the live music acts one evening!"

  • "I had a reservation yet upon arriving, my friends and I waited at the bar for no less than half an hour to be seated with little to no explanation as to the delay. When I went up to the hostess to ask why we did not yet have a table, she gestured to a large group seated at the table they had planned to give to us and explained that they had been there for more than three hours and had already paid. Now I get that it's difficult to get a large party moving (especially for brunch). But either politely suggest to the group that they may remain at the bar or find somewhere else for us to sit. Once seated, getting our orders in, the food, our check, etc. all took entirely too long and required constant prompting. Won't be returning."

  • "The food was decent but could've been better. The BBQ was good but the sides could've been much better. However, the root beer float was great. I didn't stay for the live music but I hear it's good. I would try this place again."

  • "I'm surprised to find a place where I(vegan) and my husband could have comfort food together. I ordered grilled tofu with sweet potato hash and roased cauliflower. My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich with the sweet cornbread and hushpuppies. Our service was great. Due to a miscommunication, my order came out with ribs.I ordered tofu ribs, which was translated as tofu and ribs. **They do NOT serve tofu ribs, so just say tofu.** After explaining to my server that I was vegan and did not want the ribs, he graciously offered to remove the items in front of me. My husband ended up taking the ribs (we were paying for them and didn't want to waste food). The waiter brought out another plate of tofu.My husband loved the hush puppies!"

  • "Great ambiance. Went for an impromptu date night and purchased as a Gilt deal but will definitely be returning for brunch or one of their theme nights. Convenient location Target parking was directly across the street and cheap. Over all great experience, food was great, drinks were great, dessert even more amazing. Purchased as a Gilt deal but will definitely be returning for brunch or one of their theme nights. Friendly staff and hands on manager ensuring everything is up to par."

  • "I ordered the full rack of ribs, onion rings and mac n' cheese. My wife had beef brisket, greens and mac n' cheese. Let's start with, it took an unusual amount of time to get our meal. When the food came, it was served in 3 visits to table (didn't have a tray). The ribs where 35% fat!The ribs were delicious because of the dry rub, I couldn't deal with picking around the fat. My wife brisket was essentially a hockey puck! The onion rings were greasy and funny tasting (old grease). The other side dishes were good with the exception that they were not hot. This something we could have told the server had she been more attentive. One shining star of the meal was, Apple Pie Parfait. The food is tasty they need to get kinks out!"

  • "I went to Acre 121 with a friend for an early New Year's Eve dinner. The entrees were well presented and flavorful, but the dessert left a lot to be desired. I ordered the apple crisp which bore no resemblance to an apple crisp - other than the fact that it contained apples. It was more like a bread and butter pudding with apples in it. Heavy and gelatinous in texture and not very appealing. I took a few bites and left it on the plate. I let the waiter know, but obviously he didn't pay me much heed as I was still charged for it. I have a sweet tooth, so will probably not be in too much of a hurry to return."

  • "Had an early NYE dinner. Our waiter was Josh- Awesome, but the food wasn't seasoned enough for me. I got the BBQ chicken platter with mac and cheese and roasted cauliflower. The Cauliflower was the best part and had the most flavor. Would only recommend due to the beer and drinks and the fact they have pecan pie (which I skipped)."

  • "With 4 types of mimosas and good southern-type cuisine, this is a great spot for a boozy brunch with a group of people. Some sundays have live music. The service was prompt and attentive, the food was good and it wasnt too noisy. Its conveniently located next to the Columbia Heights metro stop too."

  • "We were looking for a place with BBQ as a main menu staple, and the food here was terrific. We went on a Monday at 7 so it was empty when we arrived and only filled to maybe a third of capacity. We ate right at the bar, had a great bartender/server, food came quickly, and there was a nice beer selection. There are trivia nights and live music on other nights of the week, will definitely go back to see what it's like with a little more activity."

  • "It was very apparent that they were short-staffed in the kitchen & on the floor. We waited FOREVER for our food to come out & when it did, it was cold & incorrect. I ordered a chicken "biscuit" that was served on an english muffin. My friend & I had home fries with our meal and neither of us got them. When we did, they were ice cold and had to send them back. Instead of bringing us fresh home fries, it was obvious that she zapped the old ones in a microwave. Also, my friend had to ask for syrup SEVERAL times for his waffle sandwich because the server would never bring him as much as he asked for. She was unnecessarily stingy with the condiments. This experience was surprising and EXTRA disappointing. It will be a while before I visit again."

  • "Nice venue music. The stage area isn't a fit in, the place was designed around the stage. Food was simply bad. Not sure what the pulled pork had for sauce, way too sweet and kind of a nasty after taste. The cornbread was cold as though it just out of the 'fridge. and who ever heard of mushrooms in shrimp and grits??? The place itself was very cold too, must not have any heat. We shivered through dinner. Discovered on the way out that it was actually warmer in the porch bar with overhead heaters. Service was slow; the server was just plain rude with a totally inappropriate comment about one of the drink orders. We came to see "The Keens," great band by the way. If not for the band, we would have walked out during the drink order."

  • "The food here is great (change of chef did them very well), but service was slow and off. It took 20 minutes to get drinks and they were out of clean coffee mugs and coffee for half of our meal. The food came out over 15 minutes, which left some folks without food ans we kept having to remind them what was missing."

  • "I've been to Acre 121 many times. They've changed their menu - my friends and I think for the worst. First of all, they no longer have iced tea. At a southern restaurant, no iced tea. Second, they've gotten rid of the bloody bar at brunch. Lastly, the menu has changed. Some of the food is the same. Some is different. I got a new menu item (Kentucky hot brown) - it wasn't that great."

  • "Acre 121 attempts BBQ in a setting like Columbia Heights. Sauces could be spicier and thicker but the meat is cooked well and is tasty. Chicken orders appear to include dark meat only. What is it with Maryland/DC restaurants skimping on the white meat? The sides are great and can make a meal of those alone. Two fire trucks and three ambulances in one hour make for a noisy dining experience on the open air patio but the people watching is grand."

  • "I've been wanting to try out Acre21 for a long-time. My focus was on the BBQ. I ordered the Brisket Sandwich with Cheese Grits. For $16, both servings were small. The brisket had a lot of gristle and fat. It was like chewing gum. The grits were nothing to write home about especially since the were room temperature as it arrived to the table. My friend had an unforgettable experience but not in a good way. His Mac & Cheese was similar to what you make from Kraft White Cheese Mac outta the box for $1. I was told the food was off because they were adjusting to the new menu. Maybe they should have displayed a sign out front before welcoming you to dine in."
