  • "I made my reservation on Open Table and I wrote a note that I need a table outside, unfortunately when I arrived they told me that didn't ask for outside. And the only answer was I had to wait 30 min, so I wait but the food was very bad I asked for a fritata and I received a very grease omelette for a 12 dollar the waiting time for that omelette was 30 min so I won't go again."

  • "A friend coming into town from Annapolis and I were trying to think of someplace to meet near Eastern Market, and decided to try Acqua Al 2. The hostess greeting us was friendly and efficient, the restaurant itself has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, and as soon as we settled into our table the server came to introduce themselves and bring us water. The food was fantastic - so fresh, delicious and well-seasoned - frankly, the bread alone is enough reason to go back, it's that good! They have a very good wine list, obviously lots of Italian options too, and everything from start to finish was excellent. We were both very impressed and will definitely be going back!"

  • "My husband and I went to Acqua al 2 on Saturday night to complete our Aa2 trifecta. It had been a few years since our SD and Florence visits and, somehow, we both thought the food was even better than before. We started with the Strozzapreti Al Pomodoro (fresh ricotta cheese and spinach balls in house-made tomato sauce and parmigiano)- YUM. Gooey, deliciousness in a very tasty tomato sauce. Then, my husband had the Filetto Al Mirtillo (the blueberry steak). Very nice sized filet and so, so good. Everyone should try this in their lifetime. For the first time, I tried the Farfalline Pesce Spada (bowtie pasta tossed with diced swordfish, green peppercorns, and fresh tomato). So much swordfish! SO GOOD! Also, great wine seletion. I love Aa2."

  • "A friend lived in Florence for a semester and ate at Al 2's sister restaurant there. That experience led him to DC to this restaurant. And now to me. The cheese tasting was wonderful before our meal. My friend had the fish special which was so good. The sauce was bread dipping delicious on my grilled eggplant parmigiana. So flavorful with the perfect amount of cheese. The friend that told me about Al 2 sent the dessert tasting to our table for my birthday! I was so surprised and delighted with the plate! The staff could not have been more gracious. And....helpful to the friend sending me the surprise! We sat near the kitchen and were able to see the steak tasting and pastas!!! We will be back!"

  • "My boyfriend studied abroad in Florence, where the original Acqua al 2 is located. He's been raving about it ever since he returned 2 years ago, and we finally had an excuse (our anniversary) to splurge for the one here in DC. The ambiance is wonderful for a romantic evening, and all of the food is incredible. He had the blueberry steak and I had the balsamic steak and they were both some of the best steak I've ever had. We'll definitely be going back for our next celebration (and the next and the next)."

  • "We celebrated our 1st anniversary here. I made a note on our reservation & everyone wished us happy anniversary & they gave us a great table. Everything we ordered was delicious: pear salad, burrata cheese, eggplant rigatoni, & a pasta special. The carmellata semifreddo & tira misu desserts were amazing, too. Great decor & ambiance. Make sure to reserve early because it's a popular Capitol Hill spot."

  • "We were a group of four girlfriends out for a special treat. We so pleasantly rewarded! The wine was excellent, the food fantastic! Our waiter suggested a family style meal so we could share. We started with the 3 petit filet appetizer and the assored cheese plate, moving on to a wonderfully prepared red snapper, spinach cannelloni and penne with a vodka cream sauce. Then we shared the assorted desert tray, and a frozen salted caramel dish that was the best! I highly recommend this adventure!"

  • "This is likely my favorite restaurant in DC and dangerously close to where I live. We always start with the burrata appetizer but this time went for the caprese salad and were happily proved that it was just as good as our normal starter. I have had almost every pasta dish on the menu and have not been disappointed once by them, this time my rotini with eggplant was delicious, as always. Just a simple, consistently good Italian restaurant with a good selections of wines, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere."

When we arrived, we were offered complimentary champagne as it was our anniversary (also we had to wait a few minutes for our table but they were extremely busy). Our server actually remembered us! The restaurant feels so cozy and the food tastes delicious and authentic. This is one restaurant I always recommend to friends in DC!"

  • "Although this restaurant looked inviting, and the reviews suggested great food, our experience was mediocre. My cocktail was very weak, and not cheap. We had two pasta dishes and an antipasto plate. The antipasto plate was so-so, mostly meat, with two teeny slices of cheese, and two small pieces of bread with different toppings. Both pasta dishes were more al dente than I'd like and the sauces were very pedestrian. The Vodka sauce was not what I would expect, but was a cheesy orange-colored sauce that reminded me of velveeta. The pepperoni sauce was very bland, with less oompf than a jar of Classico. Perhaps the meat and poultry dishes were better, judging by what the other diners ordered, but I was very disappointed in our dinner."

  • "I loved the food at Acqua Al 2. My friend & I shared the tasting menus of salads & pastas. Each dish more delicious than the one that preceded it! The wine selection is extensive; the waiter was knowledgeable & guided us to excellent choices. My ambivalence? We were rushed. 'They' clearly wanted to 'turn our table' & I felt pushed from the time I sat down to the time we paid our check. As example: I had to send pastas back to the kitchen since we were in the middle of our salad course and there was no room on the table for another plate. Sort of 4 Stars but it could have been 5+. I'd love to return, but I'll check with the restaurant before I make a new reservation. The Food is so special! I'm want to give Acqua Al 2 another try."

But we were seated upstairs where two larger parties of 6 and 4 had fairly loud conversation going and even at a table for two on the other side of the room we had a hard time carrying on a conversation and could not help but hear all that went on at the larger party tables. I would not recommend upstairs for two person evening--unless sound situation is addressed."

  • "This was my first visit and I arrived early. I decided to have a drink at the bar and the bartender (dark hair with a beard) left a lot to be desired. No greeting or introduction from him. Quite disappointing. Although my experience was off to a bad start, our server more than made up for it. She was on point (I forgot her name, dark hair-pixy cut with glasses--she was superb!) and so was the support staff from the kitchen. I believe the manager stopped by to see how our experience was going--all of them very interested in our experience and accomodating. Thank you."
