Acme RestaurantGreat food, lovely atmosphereTuesdays all entrees are 12.95. It's a GREAT deal! And great food!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMy dining experienceThis was our 5th time for dinner at Acme Restaurant and each one has been outstanding in food and service. I will definitely go back whenever I am in Carrboro for a concert at The Arts Center or other nearby venue.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOut with china visitorsWe had a great experience at Acme. The soft shell crabs ("crabs are good but the sauce is fabulous!"), scallops, shrimp succotash and more. Lively place and great food. Lots of obvious "frequent flyers" from the 'hood.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistency Is the Key!I 'discovered' Acme about a year ago and since then have eaten there at least once a month. Their food, service and quality of ingredients are things that I have come to count on when dining at Acme. They are consistently excellent in all areas -- give them a try, they won't disappoint!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent as always!ACME is one of our favorite places to eat. The services is always impeccable and the food fantastic! The only down side ....... I always eat too much 'cause the food is just so dang yummy!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing, as always!I love Acme! Their brunch is amazing! The service is a always great!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent fish and terrific serviceWe had the pan seared outer banks scallops and wahoo. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and properly sauced. The jicama, grapefruit and avocado salads were perfect.
The wine list is outstanding for a smaller restaurant and the staff actually knows enough about wines to be helpful.
I look forward to my next visit and recommend it to anyone who appreciates an outstanding restaurant.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBargain TuesdaysWe love this lively, chic little restaurant with its lush patio. The drinks and wine are good; the food is 'new' Southern from reliable sources; the atmosphere is fresh and lively. Best part for us....with their bargain prices on Tuesdays, we can make this a regular.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWrong drink garnishThe only complaint I have is about the dry Manhattan I ordered with a twist. It came with a cherry. I cannot fathom why seemingly every bartender in the area thinks a dry Manhattan should be made and garnished with a maraschino cherry.
Otherwise it was, overall, a very good experience. We dined outside - weather perfect - and sat at a table in the far corner which served to mute the noise. That was great!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence across the boardFirst off, get the fried green tomatoes. Don't even think about it. Just do it.
We had an absolutely wonderful meal at acme. I had been here several times, but this particular visit was truly exceptional. Our service was impeccable, the food was delectable, and the staff were courteous and thoughtful despite the fact that we came in within the last minutes before they closed. Thanks to those who were around late on the Sunday before Memorial Day!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWoderful. Delicious, freshWoderful. Delicious, fresh food. Would definitely go back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways good, sometimes greatA group of six of us went to Acme for a Friday night dinner. The restaurant was busy, but the service was excellent - precise, friendly, and prompt. The food was all very good to excellent, but fell just short of being memorable. Except the jalapeno corn bread, which was superb. Nice wine list with fair prices. We had a great time, and we'll be back. Recommended.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal area PerfectFrom the fresh soft shell crab provided by Core Sound Seafood to the fried chicken and butter beans this food was fantastic! My waiter and hostess were friendly and knowledgeable too. This is place is a gem.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite spotI never grow tired of Acme. The chef is inventive so there are always nightly specials to augment the wonderful menu. The food is consistently excellent as well as imaginative.
I 'm a "regular" there and waiters are quite friendly.
It's fun to bring new people with me whenever I go and they are always pleased with this introduction to my favorite restaurant in the area.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMreally fine....the chef of this place (whose name I don't know...but he's a friend of a writer friend of mine) is amazing....very creative meal constructions, combinations....at the same time maintaining a Southern based theme to the whole menu....it is really some of the best food in the area.....I had the crab cakes, amazingly succulent, crabby, perfectly grilled, on a nice corn relish which I relished....one of our group a Chilean from Santiago, who is very very picky about non-Chilean food. fell in love with ACME's fried green tomatoes....I rated their Key Lime Pie as second best in the area ( the whipped cream was too sweet), but what the hey...great place, nice ambiance, efficient intelligent service, great menu, fun....5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable MealI had the scallops which I highly recommend. My young son had a wonderful burger and perfect fries. Highly recommend.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive food.Always good with attentive service, a combination of comfort food with inventive dishes in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMServiceService was not up to expectations. The server kept forgetting parts of the order for the same person at our table, both his 1st and 2nd courses. Probably because he did not write down our orders. Remember a short pencil is better than a long memory.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMoms went for the Crab!We had a good time at Acme & had a great waiter ( or two! ) but were very disappointed that the advertised soft-shell crab was not available! We came more-or-less for that special item & expected it to be on the menu, so were rather let down by that. Oh well, it happens!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellentThis is our go-to place for all of our special occasions or when we want to introduce friends to a new restaurant. Food and service is always excellent!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAcme Restaurant..great local foodAcme is a fine restaurant in the middle of Carrboro. The food is outstanding and depends on many of the fine local organic farmers to supply them. We very much enjoyed NC catfish and NC (I think) soft shell crabs. Excellent menu, quite varied, with a "southern comfort" dessert list. Not cheap, but in line with comparable restaurants in the area. Only negative is that it is very loud which limits conversation. This might be alleviated by dining outside..it was cold and rainy the night we were there so this wasn't an option. That's what we will choose for our next visit.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - wonderful service -Have been there several times and will continue to go. Food and wait staff are wonderful.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, environment, andGreat food, environment, and staff every time we go.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe rarely splurge on whatWe rarely splurge on what we consider a higher-end place like Acme, but when we do, we are NEVER disappointed.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure to dineAlways a pleasure to dine at Acme. The food is outstanding and the service is friendly and very competent.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI ordered the scallops, whichI ordered the scallops, which were delectable. My husband wanted to order the flounder special, but they could not provide a substitute for the asparagus that came with the dish, so he ordered steak. It was excellently done, although if the same steak had been ordered at a regular steakhouse, without the Acme embellishments, it would not have been that flavorful. All in all, the Acme has been our "go to" restaurant for years for creative food, nice atmosphere, and good service.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting menu featuringInteresting menu featuring local foods and dishes. Calamari, pork belly, steak frites, flounder special all very good. Bit heavy on the salt, ask first if that is an issue.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was so delicious!Everything was so delicious! I usually never order chicken when dining out but the Pecan Crusted Chicken sounded amazing and it was! We also ordered an extra side of the cheesy grits...I wanted to lick the bowl clean. This was my 4th or 5th meal at Acme and it never disappoints!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious! WellFood was delicious! Well executed versions of rustic, comfort-type foods... really enjoyable. The patio is very charming and certainly not what we expected when we walked in the front door of the restaurant. Will definitely return!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAtmosphere and service onAtmosphere and service on outdoor patio was great and the food was very good. Tuesday night entree special was also a lucky find.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood From Beginning To End!Although I had eaten at Acme's for the first time a couple of months ago, I wanted to try it on a (half/price Tuesday). I ordered the oyster salad for an appetizer and it was truly amazing. The combination of the hot oysters with the delicously seasoned salad was both refreshing and satisfying. My main course was the catfish with rice. Loved the catfish but could have done w/o the peanuts on top as they didn't add to the dish. Save room for the butterscotch pudding. Simply heaven! Service was good however, because of the half/price deals it got crowded relatively quickly and wait-staff became busy. If you have time, appreciate knowledgeable and professional wait-staff and want great food at half price, Acme is the place!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem of a PlaceWE have brunched all around the Triangle and the brunch at ACME is the BEST!!! Not only is it extensive but also imaginative as well as tasty. You are in for a real treat. Also the 12.95 Tuesdays can't be beat for value. ALL entrees on Tuesday are 12.95 and I mean all including any specials. That's a real buy. Happy dinning.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatGreat food, great wines, great service, great place!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMYou will fall in love withYou will fall in love with this amazing restaurant after your first visit.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEven Homer nodsAcme is one of our favorite restaurants. However, on this occasion, the lobster turnover was undistinguished -- really rather bland, with the bottom portion of the pastry being a bit soggy.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent. Will definitelyFood was excellent. Will definitely be going back!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu offers a nice varietyThe menu offers a nice variety of dishes and the specials were good. I had the ribeye steak and it was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be returning to try more from the menu.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOnline reservation didn't workWe made the reservation online using Open Table. We received the email confirmation of our reservation, but when we got to the restaurant, they didn't have our name on the list. The hostess said that we probably didn't hit the 'submit' button online. When we told her that we had gotten an email confirmation, it wasn't until we pulled up our email on our smart phone to show her. We were then seated and she apologized. She later did find our name, but it wasn't on her main reservation page. The lighting was so dim at our table that we each had to pull out flashlights to read the menu. We love the food there and have been there several times. It would be good if they were to change up the menu some.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA Carrboro TreasureWe have been dining at Acme for years and it remains one of our favorite places for all occasions, from week-night out to TG dinner. Kevin Callaghan, owner and head chef, has the wit and wisdom of Calvin Trillin, and invests all of that in being a creative and consistently excellent chef. Acme is committed to sourcing local food and serving it up in fresh ways. He regularly comes up with delicious specials. Great wait staff, and Lulu and Brian make the bar just as delightful a place to have dinner as the floor.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAcme lives up to its usualAcme lives up to its usual excellence after every visit. Wonderful place3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMJust what me and my gal palJust what me and my gal pal were looking for in a Sunday Brunch! We've gone two Sundays in a row and it's been perfect each time. Definitely try the featured Acme Mimosa, and if the special includes the Doughnut Trio, that is a MUST get! Service is friendly and great. I will definitely return.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTues night discountsgood food and discounts on Tues nights, otherwise it would be overpriced.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMTreat yourself to one of theTreat yourself to one of the specials. The chef prepares interesting dishes that must be tasted. You will not be sorry. My personal favorite from the small plate menu is the Asian calmari salad. Service is great.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for the seasonal specials! We went to Acme for our 3 year anniversary and had a wonderful experience. The food was fresh and flavorful and the local entree specials were amazing. I had the roast guinea hen and my partner had the pork chops. One of the best things about Acme is the seasonal menu, so you constantly have the opportunity to try something new and fresh. We also enjoyed a few lovely cocktails - the Rosemary Street was tangy and unique and Vieux Carolina was a nice full-bodied and manly sort of drink - and the house threw in a champagne toast for our anniversary. Cheers! The service was consistently attentive, timely, and professional. The ambiance was romantic and unhurried. I highly recommend Acme for foodies and for all!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. Enjoyed ourExcellent food. Enjoyed our night at the restaurant3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOld Carrboro Boy returns home!Loved our first visit to my old towns new hot spot restaurant. The food was as to be expected..well prepared, perfectly seasoned, and served on time and temp was good. My only complaint, if there has to be one, was the lighting. Yes...it certainly was romantic, but I couldnt read the menu because of the lack of light. Other than that, it was a great dinning experience. The corn bread was fantastic! Our server was on point and had a great charm about her. I hope we can return soon to try the other southern dishes that Acme has become so well known for in the future. My little old town has certainly grown up since I last lived there 20 yrs ago. Good luck to you and to the business!
B. Ridout3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom our table in the window,From our table in the window, we overlooked Main Street in Carrborro. Not much going on last night, but still a table with a view is always a nice thing! The food at Acme is some of the best in town. The empenada appetizer was delicious as was the salmon I had for my entree. All at our table loved our food and can't wait to return!2/6/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food and service werethe food and service were all very good....the lighting was so dim I could barely read the menu....the waiter smiled and offered me a flashlight, so obviously I was not the first to comment about that....ambience is one thing but eating in the dark is another....i like to see my food....either enhance the table lighting or crank up the overheads or provide miner's headlamps.1/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place in the triangleFood is excellent and very well priced. The menu serves some southern dishes with a gourmet flare. Every single dish on the table for a group of 6 was delicious. One minor complaint, the fried green tomatoes are way too small a portion (it;s a tomato not foie gras). Otherwise, the scallops are perfectly cooked, steaks are great, even the hamburger was delicious. Desserts were only OK, several people thought the bourbon pecan pie was not exemplary, but the bourbon menu is superb and has things like Larceny that no one else does.11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
