Diner Reviews
  • "This small restaurant in Arlington Center serves excellent traditional Mexican food that is extremely well prepared and reasonably light. We have been twice and both times were impressed with the food. There are a lot of tables in a small place and they fill up pretty fast. The marguerites are good, however, and you soon forget the cvrowd as the food makes you happy. Parking can be a challenge but the reward is worth the hassle."

  • "Acitron is a step up from typical American Tex-Mex, and has some more authentic dishes. However, they tend to over-salt many dishes so that other spices are overpowered. While the cilantro shrimp dish was superior to most, their take on tamales was one of the least flavorful I have had. Their margaritas are definitely superior to most you will have elsewhere--and the jalapeño margarita gives a delightful "zing""

  • "The staff at Acetron is friendly and the good is delicious and plentiful - as are the drinks! They do not skimp on quantity or quality."

  • "This was our second time there. Great service and food. I would definitely recommend it. The salmon was fresh and tasty and the fish tacos were wonderful."

  • "Upon walking into the restaurant, the Hostess, who confused us with another reservation that apparently didn't show, was rude to us. She apologized after I our lack luster dinner, but my sense is that this person needs some training in customer relations. Food tasted bland for a Mexican restaurant; sever was nice enough but never notified us that there were indeed specials. Two dinners were ordered and when delivered each person received the other person's meal. Credit card machine was reportedly broken; the restaurant accepted payment by cash or check only. Not your ultimate dining experience. We are not going back."

  • "I've lived in Arizona & New Mexico & visited Mexico many times. Acitron is the best restaurant around for authentic Mexican cuisine. It is also one if the only restaurants where you won't end up with a plate of unrecognizable brown mush. Everything is delicious, the mole is delicious, items with gluten are labelled, vegetarians are satisfied & they even have a yummy brunch menu as well! Aside from the crowded tables & noise level that night it was a perfect dining experience. It's usually not THAT noisey so go anyway & hope for the usual!"

  • "Went with four girlfriends. We all got enchiladas, every one was super happy with their own variety but what we loved most was the option to have an ear of specially cooked corn rather than rice and I plan to go back to get a triple side order of it. It was my favorite part of the meal. That's saying a lot because all parts were very good. Had fab ice cream for dessert."

  • "As others have noted, the food is good and the drinks are both delicious and strong. We were struck by how much fun this place was. The wait staff was engaging and pleasant and the other patrons near us were friendly and having fun, too."

  • "The food here is very nicely executed with very good service. Ate on a groupon so value was tremendous, but would be reasonable so long as you don't go whole hog with multiple apps, salads, deserts and booze. A bit tight in terms of tables too close to the entrance and people not able to get to their table without bumping into yours and always hearing other folks' conversations like they are at your table, but apart from that very nice place!"

  • "First time dining here, very busy on arrival but staff was very accommodating in allowing us to wait for a bit more out of the way table. Tamarind Mole was something new to me, very tasty. Salsa was fresh and good, could use a bit more heat, or offer a hotter option for those who want it. Fantastic Tequila selection, really good Margarita’s. A different presentation on Mole Poblano with shredded chicken mounded into a “tower”, very good mole. Chocolate Tamale Desert was great. We will return."

  • "Acitron has quickly become one of my wife and I's favorite weekend spots to visit. They're margaritas are a hit with my wife and the latin brewed beers on offer are great as well. The guac is excellent for an app, but be careful; with the chips they offer you can quickly over eat, don't ruin your appetite on the snack! The entrees are well prepared and lack the typical mexican food "slop" effect I've experienced at other establishments. Definitely worth the visit to A-town."

  • "This was a great neighborhood find. A little disorganized when getting our table but the wait staff were extremely pleasant and attentive. The food was excellent - not your average Mexican restaurant menu items by any means - well worth the visit and reasonably priced."

  • "Great time. Good (strong) drinks and yummy Mexican close to home. A challenger to Zocalo on Broadway. Though I prefer the decor/vibe of Zocalo."

  • "We visited this restaurant for the first time to celebrate Valentines Day, just prior to attending a show at the Regent Theater. Although we had made reservations, we arrived a few minutes early and were immediately seated. We found the service to be very attentive without being overbearing. The food was wonderful (especially the Camarones Con Salsa Cilantro). The spinach was not overcooked (which is often a risk). The black beans were clearly not from a can and nicely flavored. The Flan was flawless, and the Mexican Chocolate ice cream quite nice. As a special treat to celebrate Valentines Day, they gave a long stemmed rose to each female and a chocolate dipped strawberry to each male. We will be back!"

  • "The experience at Acitron was just so-so and because we had had a great lunch there a few weeks ago, that made it so disappointing. They seemed understaffed. The food was also not timed to come out at the intervals it should have been. Mostly, the food was lacking. Little to no chorizo in the (drama filled) chorizo/cheese appetizer. Shredded chicken mole without enough sauce (but phenomenal rice and beans). A vegetarian dish which did not come out as described. And a promotion which was not adequately described... nice people. Decent food. But, lots of things which need fixing/"

  • "We have dined at Acitron now a few times. It is a small, neighborhood gem with truly outstanding and authentic Mexican cuisine. Always friendly, helpful service. Last night our waiter did a fantastic job in making sure everything "flowed", but not interrupting the lively conversation we were having with our friends. Highly recommended if you want a cut above the typical Boston area Mexican restaurant. Try the great margaritas, and the mole is to die for!"

  • "What a great evening at Acitron. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were still seated immediately. Fantastic hospitality which only enhanced the great food and waitress service. It was our first experience at this restaurant and we will be back again and again I'm sure."

  • "Very nice Valentines Dinner. Staff was wonderful. Restaurant had lots of nice touches---live music, long stem red roses and chocolate covered strawberries for guests. Food was excellent. Service was great---especially on such a busy Friday holiday night!"

  • "We were a party of four and had great food and our server was wonderful. From the time we got in to when we left, we were treated wonderfully. The food was flavorful and presented beautifully. Two singers/guitar players provided beautiful music as well but I guess that happens on weekends only."

  • "The Acitron Cocina Mexicana was terrific. It started with our engaging and attentive waitress who explained the dishes with enthusiasm and provided great service the entire evening. The meal was the best Mexican food we've enjoyed in a very long time. We began with lightly beer-battered fried avocado and cervice for appetizers, which were done perfectly. We drank Sangria that was the right balance of dry and sweet. One entree was a variation on Chili Releno with ground spiced beef filling covered with a mild but flavorful pistachio cheese sauce. Delicious! Another was grilled Mahi Mahi, which was moist, tender, and very tasty, served with a very nice grilled seasoned corn on the cob. Excellent Tres Leches and Chocolate Tamale for dessert!"

  • "A noisy, brightly lit place with televisions on the wall. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and helpful. I had a dinner salad with overcooked, dried out salmon. The vegetable part of the salad was mediocre too, especially the plastic-like tomatoes. I don't remember what my friends ordered but they weren't happy with their choices either. The prices were on the high side for a Mexican restaurant. I also had a margarita, which was far superior to any margarita I've had in a Boston area restaurant, but I wouldn't ever eat here again."

  • "I arrived with a reservation for 1. made on open table. The host refused to seat me. He said there has to be 2. My open table reservation was clearly marked 1. He was brutish and rude. Forget this restaurant. The people behind it are unprofessional And lack any basic interpersonal skills."

  • "I go to Mexico for 3 weeks every winter. This is one of the few places in the boston area that serves authentic Mexican food including corn tortillas"

  • "I wanted to give this dinner 4 stars but the service was so-so. The waiter was friendly but we felt rushed. We ordered the enchiladas and being caught up in the moment we didn't realize the waiter didn't ask us if we wanted the red or the green sauce. We should've said something but the waiter had a rush-rush nature. Loved the ambiance and the drinks. Just an over all so-so dinner experience."

  • "I forgot how good this place is. Went with family and friends for my birthday on a Thursday night. The sopes appetizers were very good, particularly the chicken version. Love the salsa - so fresh with lots of cilantro, yum. Carne Asada was excellent as was the guacamole. And they serve Caipiranhas from the bar, one of my favorites. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Food was great across the board. There were 4 of us dining together and we all had something different and we all loved our choices. The place is kinda small (yet very pleasant), but we were there early so it wasn't busy and we didn't feel crowded and it wasn't noisy. I think the wait staff was giving us a lot of time between things because we were talking a lot (catching up with old friends we hadn't gotten together in a long time), so service seemed a little bit slow for the amount of people in the restaurant, but again that may have been their thoughtful attempt to accommodate us."

  • "Food was great, not your average Mexican by any means. But the service was very slow and then too fast. We waited a long time for our appetizers. Before we finished them, the salads appeared. Before we were half done with the salads, the entrees appeared. The table was very crowded. And when we arrived, they could not find our Open Table reservation in their computer. Luckily they had a spare table for us. Otherwise, we would have been out of luck because the restaurant was packed."

  • "Dined at this restaurant for New Year's Eve, and they seemed a bit overwhelmed. The service was pretty terrible -- waited for a host/hostess for a solid ten minutes, then was finally seated by a woman pointing at a table from across the restaurant. Our server was decent, but again, things were slow. Although our food came out in decent time, the tables around us were not so lucky, and their complaints dampened the mood. The food was good, but the margaritas were weird and almost undrinkable. Overall, I'd say that the place is good, stay away from the mixed drinks, and definitely don't go during peak hours."

  • "From the fresh salsa to the large and very tasty entrees. our dinner was lovely. All too often these days, Mexican cuisine is either dumbed down for American tastes or limited to burritos & tacos. Acitron will offer quite a few dishes that you haven't seen before on Mexican menus in the Boston area. One of our pet peeves is the dearth of Mexican cuisine in the Boston area. Now that we have discovered Acitron, we'll complain a bit less and eat there more often, By the way, when you ask for some extra "hot" sauce, they give you a small dish of sauce made with habaneros. Good for them !"

  • "Excellent Mexican cuisine in El Norte (Arlington Center). We were there Christmas Eve, and they had several traditional Mexican Christmas specials: a red and green apple based salad appetizer, and a traditional warm Mexican dessert fruit drink (which we didn't have). We had the fried avocados (delicious) and the fresh guacamole (which could have used a bit of a kick), with fresh taco chips, while sampling from their Margarita selections (which were a good value). We had a selection of outstanding entrees, and can particularly recommend the fish tacos and the chorizo con papas. We split a flan for dessert and it was excellent: solid and substantial, but lightly textured, with caramel sauce the consistency of warm maple syrup. Great value."
