We come to San A to oi from Norman OK annually as our special getaway. A big part if the reason IS Acenar. They take great care with every aspect of the experience and the fiod, service, bar, entertainment is all top notch. Anything with shrimp or mole is divine. The soups are spectacular. This time we had a spicy/tart tortilla soup that was perfectly balanced with a silky broth that tasted divine and felt unctuous on the tongue. Cocktails are a speciality. I had a blood orange mojoto that was the best cocktail I have ever imbibed-and that is saying something! Service is polite, friendly and exactly as it should be without a hint if obsequiousness. The mariachi were very skilled and knew lots of esoteric numbers! Great experience!! Thanks.

The service was great, from walk in to leaving. We were sat right away. Everyone was friendly. I was disappointed with the food. I expected more, considering the prices were high. The rice and beans had very little flavor, I ordered the nachos, I was not impressed. The drinks were very good, house margarita was incredibly strong.

It's a beautiful restaurant with a fabulous deck overlooking the river. The food was unfortunately quite bad and the service was very spotty. I had the mole enchiladas and they were incredibly dry and lacked flavor. I also ordered the jalepeno margarita and it had little to no jalepeno flavor or kick. The others whom I dined with had similar experiences. Beautiful location, terrible food and service.

Great location on the river. Food is very good, but service was lacking. Not a large menu, but has something for everyone. The emphasis here is on the bar and drinks. With the outdoor patio overlooking the river, this is truly a San Antonio gem when it comes to ambiance. Dining room very loud and it's hard to hold a conversation. They need to work on some sound softening devices due to all the hard surfaces.

Menu does not list ingredients that are common allergies, we ordered an appetizer and it came with cashews in it which were not listed in menu. reordered it without the nuts but then the main dish showed up. So canceled the appetizer. Main dish- over priced, little food. average quality at best. Staff seemed to want to hurry us up as fast as possible.

I was meeting some friends from out of town at this restaurant and had a 7:00 reservation for 4 with a request for outdoor seating on the river. Around 7:20, after asking a few times, we were seated. Fortunately, I wasn't in a hurry, because service was slow. It was great for a leisurely dinner though. The food was good and flavorful. No problems there. I would go there again, but only if there's nowhere else I need to be afterwards.

Arrived early on Sunday night and took advantage of some happy hour mojitos and chips/salsa before going to our outdoor, river view table for dinner. Since it was Sunday night and we made an advanced reservation, they provided a table right in front of the river. And since Acenar is on the Museum Reach section of the River Walk, it is quieter and more romantic here. A perfect backdrop to a fabulous dinner. I had the snapper with cilantro rice, which was amazing! If you like guacamole, I would suggest ordering that as well, as the waiter prepares it from scratch tableside. It is big enough for 2-3 people to share, easily. Acenar was one of the top meals in our 10 days visiting Texas.

We were looking for a place to have an early dinner prior to a show at the Majestic. Acenar had good reviews and we liked the focus on a different approach to southwestern/Mexican fare, as opposed to typical tex-mex. The food and service were very good, lots of flavor. I had snapper and my wife had the relleno. We sat outside, which was great but next time I will sit inside as the layout and décor were very attractive.

I was really excited about trying this place out, my boyfriend went on and on about how much he liked it however I did not. They sat us in a corner where I couldn't even move my chair back at all and the table was really wobbly and moved every time I touched my plate. The FOOD wasn't very good either. My rice wasn't cooked through all the way and my tacos were cold and dry. The tortillas were also very dry and hard. Was super excited about this place but for a bill that was almost a hundred bucks for two people was not worth it at all. I will say that the waiter was amazing!:) he took very good care of us and knew what he was doing.

Twice we've hit this place before seeing a show at the majestic theater (just a few doors down), and twice we've been impressed. The drinks are amazing, and come quickly, same with appetizers, and before we knew it, the main courses were out. Everything was wonderful, not a complaint to be had. Probably the cheapest option in the area too (compared to Palm, Luke, etc).

While the place is upscale feeling and vibrant, the food did not match it. I expected a blast of Mexican flavors but got bland instead. It was not at all bad. It just was a little less than I expected food-wise. Portions were nice and service good. Outdoor dining was fabulous. I may go back to give it another shot. Oh, and the large margarita was advertised as $15 but charged as $20 because it was hand shaken --- gimme a break!!

Based on reviews, we looked forward to "modern" take on Mexican food. However, nothing special about the food - could have been any Mexican chain restaurant. Service was sporatic, long waits for food, and so LOUD inside it was difficult to hear the others at our table. Won't be back

I'm new to San Antonio and made reservations for 6:30 PM. The restaurant was pretty full already, which is probably a good indication. The restaurant is clean, and the patio has a fantastic view along the river walk. We chose a table that was pretty much borderline both as it was still pretty warm outside and we were dressed nicely. The table before had just left so the silverware/linen wasn't placed down, and was forgotten until the food came out. Otherwise the server was very attentive. The chips and salsa were good. So were the rocks margaritas. The food was great, I had the steak and shrimp, and my date had the flank steak I believe. We ended with the flan. My experience was very good!

My wife and I went to Ácenar for a early dinner before walking to the Majestic Theater, which is literally less than a block away. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out, especially the outside, you have a beautiful view of the riverwalk, although we sat inside as there is always a long wait for outside seating. I recommend making reservation as it does get pretty busy. The frozen margaritas were great and the food was amazing, but the waiter took our order and then came back 15 mins later and asked what we ordered again, when he brought out the food, he brought her the wrong dish and then I had to wait for hers to come out to eat, and when they did bring her food out, which was pretty quick, it was still wrong..maybe it was a bad night

The food was good a bit over portioned. Overall the flavors were mild and settle. We would have preferred bolder flavors. For example the salsa looks to be based on ground black beans. There is some chilli in it but you have to wait for it to come. Even when the heat arrives it's really a mild warmth. The pork was not fork tender but stll edible. The temal was two slices when one would have done. Presentation was nice. Overall this is a solid place for those that are strong flavor adverse.

The service was very slow, which is some what expecting on the Riverwalk. My wife, Son, and my Mother stopped for lunch. The service and delivery of drinks and food were slow. Following completing our meals and waiting for the waiter to return to bring desert for my son and the check, my son was done sitting at a table (lunch took over an hour) he and I went to walk around. The waiter finally returned and my wife asked that the desert for my son be put in a to go container. He stated the chef would not do that, the desert had to be eaten by the child at the restaurant. She challenged him and he finally brought the desert packed in a cup (Basically shoved).

The food at Acenar is authentic but interesting and very flavorful. My husband had the shrimp Diablo, and I had the chili relleno - both were fantastic! We also were lucky enough to have some local Mariachis play for us (after asking us if that was OK), which added to the ambience, and our kids were also treated well. We'll be back!
