We were looking for a place to have an early dinner prior to a show at the Majestic. Acenar had good reviews and we liked the focus on a different approach to southwestern/Mexican fare, as opposed to typical tex-mex. The food and service were very good, lots of flavor. I had snapper and my wife had the relleno. We sat outside, which was great but next time I will sit inside as the layout and décor were very attractive.

I was really excited about trying this place out, my boyfriend went on and on about how much he liked it however I did not. They sat us in a corner where I couldn't even move my chair back at all and the table was really wobbly and moved every time I touched my plate. The FOOD wasn't very good either. My rice wasn't cooked through all the way and my tacos were cold and dry. The tortillas were also very dry and hard. Was super excited about this place but for a bill that was almost a hundred bucks for two people was not worth it at all. I will say that the waiter was amazing!:) he took very good care of us and knew what he was doing.

Our group of four enjoyed the plate for four that included a little bit of everything. The portions were generous and each meat was very tasty. Great idea for enjoying a variety of Mexican cooked beef, chicken, pork, sausage, and shrimp with sides. Service was top notch!

Twice we've hit this place before seeing a show at the majestic theater (just a few doors down), and twice we've been impressed. The drinks are amazing, and come quickly, same with appetizers, and before we knew it, the main courses were out. Everything was wonderful, not a complaint to be had. Probably the cheapest option in the area too (compared to Palm, Luke, etc).

While the place is upscale feeling and vibrant, the food did not match it. I expected a blast of Mexican flavors but got bland instead. It was not at all bad. It just was a little less than I expected food-wise. Portions were nice and service good. Outdoor dining was fabulous. I may go back to give it another shot. Oh, and the large margarita was advertised as $15 but charged as $20 because it was hand shaken --- gimme a break!!

Based on reviews, we looked forward to "modern" take on Mexican food. However, nothing special about the food - could have been any Mexican chain restaurant. Service was sporatic, long waits for food, and so LOUD inside it was difficult to hear the others at our table. Won't be back

I'm new to San Antonio and made reservations for 6:30 PM. The restaurant was pretty full already, which is probably a good indication. The restaurant is clean, and the patio has a fantastic view along the river walk. We chose a table that was pretty much borderline both as it was still pretty warm outside and we were dressed nicely. The table before had just left so the silverware/linen wasn't placed down, and was forgotten until the food came out. Otherwise the server was very attentive. The chips and salsa were good. So were the rocks margaritas. The food was great, I had the steak and shrimp, and my date had the flank steak I believe. We ended with the flan. My experience was very good!

My wife and I went to Ácenar for a early dinner before walking to the Majestic Theater, which is literally less than a block away. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out, especially the outside, you have a beautiful view of the riverwalk, although we sat inside as there is always a long wait for outside seating. I recommend making reservation as it does get pretty busy. The frozen margaritas were great and the food was amazing, but the waiter took our order and then came back 15 mins later and asked what we ordered again, when he brought out the food, he brought her the wrong dish and then I had to wait for hers to come out to eat, and when they did bring her food out, which was pretty quick, it was still wrong..maybe it was a bad night

The food was good a bit over portioned. Overall the flavors were mild and settle. We would have preferred bolder flavors. For example the salsa looks to be based on ground black beans. There is some chilli in it but you have to wait for it to come. Even when the heat arrives it's really a mild warmth. The pork was not fork tender but stll edible. The temal was two slices when one would have done. Presentation was nice. Overall this is a solid place for those that are strong flavor adverse.

The service was very slow, which is some what expecting on the Riverwalk. My wife, Son, and my Mother stopped for lunch. The service and delivery of drinks and food were slow. Following completing our meals and waiting for the waiter to return to bring desert for my son and the check, my son was done sitting at a table (lunch took over an hour) he and I went to walk around. The waiter finally returned and my wife asked that the desert for my son be put in a to go container. He stated the chef would not do that, the desert had to be eaten by the child at the restaurant. She challenged him and he finally brought the desert packed in a cup (Basically shoved).

The food at Acenar is authentic but interesting and very flavorful. My husband had the shrimp Diablo, and I had the chili relleno - both were fantastic! We also were lucky enough to have some local Mariachis play for us (after asking us if that was OK), which added to the ambience, and our kids were also treated well. We'll be back!

Been wanting to try Acenar for quite sometime as I see their lovely patio whenever I am in the area. Went for Culinaria week and enjoyed the meal they presented. The shrimp tacos were some of the best I have ever had and my BF really enjoyed the sopes as well. Jalapeno margarita was delicious. I was disappointed in my entrée combo. The enchiladas were good, rice and beans were bland and the fajitas were just so so. I also did not care for the fact that 20% gratuity was automatically added to our check, I guess this is common practice, but it caught me off guard. Glad I noticed or I might have tipped again. All in all, nice atmosphere, great service, but $114 for Mexican food is a bit much considering all the great choices in San Antonio.

We went to San Antonio for the weekend and at the last minute a friend who used to live there recommended this restaurant. We were very glad she did. The service was a tiny bit slow but to the waiters credit he was working several very large tables around us. It was not slow because he was lazy that's for sure, he just had a lot of people to take care of. The food was fantastic and the drinks were great. We would go there again for sure. We had our 12 year old son with us who is a quiet kid. I checked kid friendly because even after 9pm on a Friday night there were tons of small children in there, not all of them quiet. It was kind of a loud atmosphere anyway so it was all bearable.

I had chicken mole enchiladas and my husband had duck enchiladas. We also got a side of cilantro rice. Everything was very yummy! Drinks were good too, but pricey. Atmosphere was cool and outside seating is right by the river walk. The waiter was friendly and helpful. We would go here again when visiting San Antonio.

The food was really great - we are from Germany and wanted to give mexican food a try ... and we were not disappointed. The Acenar is located at the famous Riverwalk.
