A word from Accanto
Accanto is a lively cafe, enoteca and neighborhood gathering spot located next to Genoa restaurant in Southeast Portland. Accanto inhabits a formerly vacant space in the historic Genoa Building. Offering several antipasti, small plates, housemade pastas and large plates all meant for sharing, Accanto’s menu will change with the seasons. Accanto's wine list draws from Europe, as well as the Pacific Northwest; guests can also choose from Genoa's extensive bottle selection. The beverage list features cocktails made with spirits from local distillers, as well as Italian Grappas and digestivos. Since we live in the greatest beer city in the world, local microbrews will always be on tap. After many years in the making, this quiet neighborhood corner finally comes to life. We hope that you can join us.Continued

  • "I was visiting Portland over the weekend when we stumbled upon this awesome restaurant for brunch. Las Vegas, where I am from, doesn't have too many unique, hole in the wall restaurants that offer a clean, casual, contemporary dining experience at an affordable price. Accanto's menu featured the ecclectic and creative palate that reflected Portland's personality. I ordered the Duck Hash for brunch. Never had I eaten warm beets with a duck confit which tasted more like pulled pork. It was awesome and I will try to recreate it at home. I will definitely take my friends and family back here when I visit again."

  • "The food was good; starters were delicious. Service was very good. I'm gluten free & there were many great options. Was disappointed that I ordered my steak medium rare & it was closer to medium well. Did not want to wait for a re-do so I just ate the center & left the rest."

  • "We have been here several times and have always had good food and good service. We had a reservation, arrived early and were going to sit at the bar and have a drink, it was our anniversary. They seated us right away. we ordered the salmon and the lamb spinach lasagna. It took over an hour to get our dinner, the waiter did offer me a half a glass of wine, but I declined as we were hungry. The salmon was mushy, and fishy tasting, the lasagna noodles were over cooked and mushy. We were terribly disappointed."

  • " Accanto was perfect for celebrating an anniversary! We tried the 3 for $13 appetizers and were not disappointed with the deviled eggs with a spicy kick and we loved the pickled vegetables. Our favorite has to be the entrees we both ordered. We got the bison tenderloin and the spinach lasagna but instead of the spinach noodle they had a polenta square on top. That was melt in your mouth delicious! I cannot even describe how the polenta melted with the cheese and fall off the bone lamb inside with the broth surrounding it. It was magic! But when I tried to describe it to a friend, the polenta square weirded him out! So just trust me, it was divine! As for the bison, they need to serve more of it in every restaurant! Equally great!"

  • "Pork chop came a little under done. Everything else was very good. Menu was a little confusing, we felt rushed to order meal, then, when it was time for dessert we had to wait awhile to order. All other service was excellent."

  • "Accanto was delicious. Just flat out. I just had the leftovers for breakfast and even they were delicious. Just very good food done very well. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "This has been a favorite neighborhood place for us for quite some time. We had a great dinner. The appetizers and salads were memorable, especially the beet salad. The mussels with pasta were superb and the orecchiette with fennel sausage and rabe was lovely, too. However . . . .we were a party of three and we had an extremely difficult time carrying on a conversation even when leaning in across the table. The physical structure of the restaurant has not changed since our last visit, but the general noise level in the was uncomfortably loud. It was not that it felt like the guests at the neighboring tables seemed to be shouting or sitting at our own, but rather that the overall roar in the restaurant was very uncomfortable."

  • "I brought a friend from out of town to dinner. My wife and I enjoy Accanto, and I knew it would be a good place to bring my friend. The food was great, as usual. It was a nice experience for a meal away from downtown, in a nice atmosphere on a beautiful Saturday evening. I got to show my friend a part of Portland that he had not seen before and enjoy a good, reasonably priced meal at the same time. He enjoyed the lasagna and I had the fettucine. Wonderful!"

  • "Six middle-aged college consultants attending a conference at the Double Tree found the food at Accanto superb. The dumpy neighborhood belies the outstanding food and drink inside. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. A bit hard to hear and the noise level increased as patrons enjoyed their delicious wines."

  • "We had unusual and wonderful food. We started by shairing the beef carpaccio The Bolognese spinach lamb lasagna was out of this world while the chicken Scafata in broth with vegetables was so tasty that I could have eaten the bones. We had a bottle of Italian Nebbiolo wine that was reasonably priced and outstanding. We shared a Tiramisu at the end. Overal, the meal was just perfect for Father's Day. My son treated, too."

  • "We've eaten here a number of times. Most of the time everything you order is really good. However, the last time or two that we've gone things were a bit off. Luke warm food, food that was just not good, and a lack of guidance from the waiter. You really don't want to order a side dish of something that is already coming on your entree do you? "

  • "My sweetie and I love to dine out but get stuck with the same 5 restaurants often, we decided to give Accanto a whirl as it was listed under "top 12 brunch spots in pdx". I am gluten free/dairy free and Accanto did an excellent job accommodating. The waitstaff were lovely and the food was delicious. we would go back for sure. Unsure as to whether it was the particular weekend or the water ban but we didn't have to wait at all which was lovely. "

  • "This was my first time visiting Accanto for brunch, having been before for Happy Hour which was just great. The service was as good considering how busy it was, and the food was superb. I would not hesitate to return with more friends!"

  • "I had been here for happy hour, but never dinner. HH was wonderful, so chose this place for a thank you/birthday dinner with friends. I like the casual feel and energy of the place. Food was very good. Not the best, but very good. My pork was a bit dry. Everyone else seemed happy. The appetizers were wonderful. Wine choices were great. When I made the reservation, I did not mention it was a birthday. Our server must have heard us wish a happy birthday. After dinner and dessert, he brought the check and a glass of champagne for the birthday girl. Very nice, but it would have been nicer if it had been delivered with dessert. That way we may have all ordered champagne. This way it felt more like an afterthought. Not complaining, however. "

  • "The kitchen of Accanto produces some tasty well prepared meals. The sea food stew (on special) was just one of those dishes. Two others in my group had lasagna and raved about it. Over all a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "I met my father for a Wednesday evening dinner. I had only heard good things about accanto and it lived up to its reputation and even surpassed it in my opinion. My gnocchi w seasonal favas and Morell's were savory and delicious but my father's fresh pasta w crab, peas and pesto was downright amazing! The apps were a great way to start: beef carpaccio and fried oysters! Can't wait to go back. "

  • "Accanto offers the best of Italian cuisine: fresh seasonal ingredients without the heaviness. The ricotta doughnuts with lemon curd were to die for. Lovely spot."

  • "My wife and i just celebrated our anniversary at accanto. The food and the service were amazing. Great wine list, and everything from the Frito misto, to the salad with and avocado, braised short ribs, to the ricotta doughnuts were outstanding. But what topped it off was our sweet and attentive server Emma. She was warm, friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience. We are looking forward to returning and trying their brunch. "

  • "The food was very well prepared, but the menu was limited. The building was repurposed...with some very nice wood fixtures on one side of the room, where the chef works out in the open and drab industrial walls with layers of paint on the outside wall. The drab walls were covered with large abstract paintings that have to "speak to you" to be appreciated. They didn't speak to me and added a modern touch to drab and certainly didn't identify a theme that would make this "an Italian restaurant." But it's a matter of taste. The wine list wasn't particularly expensive, but the wine we chose (a Barbera) was excellent. The limitations must bespeak a focus on a few good things. It works. For three of us, the cost was about $130 before tip."

  • "Never have been disappointed with their food, their service, or drinks. Consistent, just innovative enough... I keep coming back and back to them, even though I don't live in the neighborhood. If I would, I'd be there several times a week. "
