Diner Reviews
  • "Perfect like always. A bit expensive but still great."

  • "This place is always such a treat. Everyone that works there is Italian, from the maitre d' to the servers, and seem to be right off the set of the Sopranos. The food is absolutely delicious, and the vibe is upbeat and fun, without being too much. Highly recommend."

  • "The service was professional and had an old-fashioned flair to it. The maitre d' and waitstaff were genuinely welcoming. The food was well-executed and the parmagianno served with a small (complimentary) antipasto plate was among the best I've ever had. The branzino was excellent, as was the seafood pasta dish enjoyed by my friend. A couple of large groups were dining while we were there and the restaurant seems to be well-suited to high-end functions. The decor felt a bit shopworn for the high prices and the bathrooms are down a rickety stairway that drops you into a dark, basement hallway (some tourists I ran into in the ladies' room were horrified - but for NYC retaurants in older buildings it's typical)."

  • "We first discovered this wonderful TriBecca restaurant while staying across the street at the Smyth Hotel. There is not a better or more authentic Italian restaurant in all of NYC. The food is fresh, and perfectly portioned and seasoned. The wait staff are entertaining and at the same time, highly professional. I would recommend this neighborhood gem to any "foodie" who loves great food, a great wine selection, and speciality cocktails. Don't walk...run to Acappella! Tell Sergio we said Ciao!"

  • "One of the best northern Italian restaurants in NYC and maybe the US. The service is in the top 5 of all time for me and I travel extensively around the world. The food was amazing. It is a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for in my book. I had salmon with an assortment of seafood. My fettuccine with a porcini mushroom cream sauce as an appetizer was incredible. Desserts were fantastic also."

  • "We enjoyed every single second of our experience here. We had a Fabulous time, the staff was so familial, knowledgeable, and a complete pleasure. The suggested wine pairings were spot on with all food selections. The food... Oh my... So intensely flavorful and really brought an old world Italy sensation to the belly... Yum!!! Love this restaurant. Bringing a party of 10 in soon to share with our friends who expect to be impressed- we will trump them all with this dinner!!!"

  • "I had lunch here with a colleague the other day. He had traveled from his office to the vicinity of mine, so I wanted a nice place and I picked Acapella from an Open Table search. The room is very comfortable, dominated by an attractive portrait of a man in a Renaissance stiffened hat. The restaurant was relatively empty at lunch on the day we went. Service was good, and there were various specials. Preparation was very good, portions were adequate. Price was pretty high, overall, but value for money was good, particularly since we could conduct a conversation during lunch. I certainly plan to go back."

  • "First time to the restaurant. Very nice find. Food was very good. Service was great. Reminds me a bit of my all time favorite Italian restaurant Il Mulino. Don't leave your wallet at home."

  • "Reserved dinner at 8pm on a Friday for our first wedding anniversary. The executive chef Sergio greeted us at the door and sat us right in front of the food prep/cooking table. Servers came around with a cheese bowl along with complimentary cold and hot antipasti. I ordered the lamb and wife ordered the 3 pasta dish. Both were prepared in front of us. Very nice touch, felt like dinner at hells kitchen. Food was delicious. The bathroom is located in the basement which looks like a dungeon."

  • "We came here to celebrate a couple of birthdays and an anniversary, a June collection of events, in one spectacular meal. Acappella never disappoints. We've come here several times for "dinner and a show" and we are always happy with the wait staff, the service, the food, the noise level. Several dishes are done with a flambé flair, and the waiter's patter as he announces the menu, puts everyone is a good mood. In all, while the bill is high, we feel that we've more than gotten our money's worth. We'll be back."

  • "Cost for 2 people = $350 including tax and tip. Longest list of specials I've ever heard. Service was excellent. Nice ambiance - very busy when I was there on Saturday evening. Food was average for the price. Would go back if I wasn't paying for it."

  • "I have brought some of my best clients here for dinner and have never been disappointed. Restaurant is magnificent and decorated beautifully...high ceilings are amazing! Staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Go with the nightly specials - absolutely delicious!"

  • "I often entertained clients at Acappella in the 90's and was always one of my favorite Italian restaurants in NYC. I had not been there in about 15 years and was pleasantly surprised to see it very much the same today as back then. Although it is pricey, the food, service and ambience are exceptional. All in all a unique dining experience for any special occasion. Even if that occasion is any old Saturday."

  • "We live in the area but had never been to the restaurant. We had a amazon local coupon so decided to try it. Glad we did! It was like stepping into old New York. Lovely dining room, perfect for conversation, but lively. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We will be back."

  • "We had not been here for some time and we needed a special place for my daughter who was graduating from NYU with her masters. Despite the years that had pasted, it was like we were just there. The food and service per perfect a always. We had a table of 8 and there was no issue with a group or our sixe. The service was great. It felt like we were the only table there despite the fact that the place was full. I had the rack of lamb was served exactly as ordered. Others had a veal chop which was also a table favorite. People we took who had never been there are looking forward to going back. Overall, it was a great evening with great food. "

  • "We bought a living social deal which was how we ended up here. The food is very expensive and I would describe it as average. However the wait staff are a show not to be easily forgotten. Whether they are reading the list of 30/40 specials or creating the special deserts that require several alchohols and a huge explosion of flame there is never a dull moment."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere, great Northern Italian food, special pastas were like those found in Italy. Head waiter was a bit crude and unpolished, and price of lobster entree for one person (which was not revealed) was $90 which was ridiculous for what it was."

  • "Not as good as we thought. My GF half Italain and my best friend Italian and we all have been in Italy a 100 times. This was not bad but not as good as expected."

  • "The service here is outstanding. I felt like I was in Italy - very authentic. They accommodate every one of their guests, and bring them out antipastos, which made me feel welcomed and set the mood for the meal. The food is quite expensive for what it is, with that being said, the pastas were delicious, but nothing out of the ordinary. • "Excellent all around food and service. The wine list is a little skimpy and some of the dishes have a little too much garlic, but i would go back in a heartbeat."

  • "Big problem was service. The waiter had an attitude, didn't seem to like being asked questions about the menu, and disappeared for long periods of time. Very slow service. Food was good, but I would have expected better at these high prices. Wine list has very few moderately priced options, although the red we selected was excellent. Had a much better experience the first time we were here."

  • "I booked Acapella on behalf of a group for my husband's company. It's actually really hard to find a nice restaurant in NYC who will accept reservations for 9 people, especially on only a weeks notice. Acapella had no trouble with this and set a nice round table which comfortably accommodated the group. Since that night everyone in the group has told me that they had a really great time. The food and ambience was very good and the service they were given was impeccable, warm and fun and beyond efficient. Would absolutely recommend Acapella in the future for celebration dinners or any dinners at all, for that matter."

  • "We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and showed up at our scheduled time to be barely acknowledged by the hostess and realize there were at LEAST 30 couples still waiting in the bar ahead of us. The front entry way was absolutely filled and people just kept shuffling in, so we were all standing like sardines. It is clearly impossible for a restaurant to overbook to this extent unless they did it on purpose. The management must have sat down and decided that their agenda was to make as much money as possible money in one night, even if it meant really upsetting half of the customers. My fiance and I were very patient and waited over 40 minutes (only two couples were seated) before we left. I live two blocks away and will never be back."

  • "The food was incredible... and wonderful enough to fly to NYC just to have dinner, The appetizers, the salads, the entrée... all of it... simply delicious. Our waiter was a little on the snooty side, which was a bit uncomfortable, but I guess it was part of the ambience. And still... the evening was great, because the food was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Expensive, but there are tons of waiters running around. Friendly, but just felt dusty and out of touch a bit with the 21st Century. Food was ok, but for example a fresh pasta was drowned in a hyper-over-creamy "truffle" sauce that basically killed the taste of truffle. Wine list way over priced and rigged, me thinks. Asked for a $50 bottle, but was told "we are out of it." Next on the list? $70+"

  • "We had a bad experience at this place. We began with the bad attitude of the waiters, very condescending and phony. The place is stuffy and surrounded by oppressive drapes. Fried zucchini, compliment of the house was 10% zucchini and 90% hot pepper, no zucchini flavor left. The pappardelle consisted of 1-2" square of pasta, some glued together with a creamy reddish sauce. Ice cream and sobet were from "Bindi" company or alike."
