A word from Acanto
Billy Lawless is excited to announce a new chapter in the life of the historic Gage building – the opening of Acanto. The word Acanto is the Italian translation of Acanthus – the flowery leaf used extensively in Roman architecture and by famed architect Louis Sullivan in his distinctive terracotta
ornamentation found on the facade of the historically landmarked building at 18 South Michigan Avenue. Acanto highlights rustic Italian cuisine in a casual, inviting setting. At the kitchen’s helm, will be Executive Chef Chris Gawronski executing handcrafted pastas, coastal seaside plates, stone oven pizzas, and an in-house charcuterie program.
No Italian meal is complete without a perfectly paired beverage, which will be the task of Beverage Director Jon McDaniel. Relying on his time spent living in Trento and Piemonte, Jon will feature hand-selected wines from all of Italy’s 20 wine regions, craft Italian birra and Italian-inspired cocktails by Spirits Director Michael Page.

We went on a slow Monday night
after New Year's for my husband's birthday. Our friends met us for a drink and ended up staying for dinner! Our request for a table for 6 instead of a table for 2 was accommodated without a problem. I know this restaurant is well regarded, as it should be. We were just delighted to be there on a slow evening and be enjoy a leasurely and impromptu birthday dinner shared with friends. Incredible dining experience."

Delicious classic French /
continental cuisine with excellent service. Elegant, refined atmosphere. Great spot to celebrate a special occasion."

I went here with a friend/business
contact for the first time. All I have to say is WOW!!! While waiting for her to arrive, I had some of the best cocktails in the city. Then we sat down for dinner and it was amazing. If you work in the Loop and are looking for a business dinner downtown, you can't beat it. And there were plenty of couples there. The interior and service would also make it a great date night. Bottom line, thumbs up to Henri!!! Even if you do not prefer typical French cuisine, there is something on the menu for you."

Great place for upscale business
lunch but give yourself plenty of time. Would come back in the eve for a special occasion dinner."

Six of us went for dinner before a
show at Symphony Hall. The staff worked to get us in and out in time to get down the street in time. More importantly, all of the food was cooked to perfection!"

Henri is a great find in our city.
It is like a little French place from the 1920's in Paris. It is more of a classic upscale place for incredible food. The escargot and foie gras are amazing. The salads are perfect. Definitely a place to try for dinner."
Dined on 8/17/2012
Our meal at Henri's will go down
as one of my lifetime favorites. The service was superb. We really enjoyed our hostess, bartender, and server. The food was outstanding. We splurged on the caviar, and it was worth every penny. We will be back."

This is my new favorite
restaurant. A friend and I had lunch and were very happy with our choice of the prix fixe menu. The service was wonderful-very knowledgeable waitress. I want to go back, it was truly a wonderful dining experience!"

One of my favorite "Least known"
best restaurants in the City"

Real gem right on Michigan
Avenue... Excellent food, wine and service...."
Dined on 5/24/2012
Henri has nice food. I really
liked the salad nicoise. The server was very attentive. The food was nice quality. I would come here again. I was just surprised when I did come here there didn't seem to be that many people. Maybe it was just when I came. Chicago seems to have a lot of good food, so I can see how this place would have a lot of competition."
Dined on 5/18/2012
Went for the first night of our
honeymoon - great service and great food to boot! Our waitress went the extra mile to help us make the night special and we'll be back next time we're in Chicago."
Dined on 5/15/2012
If this place was in Lincoln Park,
you wouldn't be able to get in. Over the top presentations, delivered in laid back style impress even the most jaded foodies. Fantastic flavors, ample portions and professional service offer a haute cuisine hat trick. Go downtown for the symphony, stay for Henri."

Loved Henri. Best steak tartare I
have ever had! Service was attentive and friendly. Food was fantastic."
Dined on 5/5/2012
Starters were great, entrees and
dessert were meh. Service was a bit slow."
Dined on 4/20/2012
We enjoy this intimate restaurant
very much. Food is delicious and great service. Older crowd not a jeans and T place!"
Dined on 4/14/2012
food was very good. we were on
lunch hour - we were able to eat in a reasonable amount of time. it was a very pleasant dining experience. i would eat there again. Our server was exceptional."
Dined on 3/21/2012
While the appetizers were great,
the Sole Meuniere was very disappointing. Dry and obviously from a pre-fileted piece of fish."
Dined on 3/8/2012
Ambiance elegant and Devine. food
and service excellent. Not trying to be trendy--a good thing!"
Dined on 2/23/2012
Amazing. They went out of their
way to make our anniversary special. We recieved a complimentary glass of champagne and personalized menus. Everything was so well executed and the service was impeccable. The only negative, and they can't really control it, is that if you sit in the window, you are bathed in this sickening yellow light from the street light. Have a special evening there. not exactly a hangout bar however. For that action , head next door to the Gage."
Dined on 2/22/2012
still one of my favorites, and I
like the recent menu and wine changes."
Dined on 1/20/2012
This place is tiny - we had to
wait for more than 20 min for our table, but received complimentary champagne cocktails which made it very tolerable. Definitely a nicer version of the Gage but the quality of food is about the same (just more expensive)."
Dined on 12/17/2011
We went to Henri for our wedding
anniversary. This place was at the high end of the scale of what we normally try in Chicago. The foie gras appetizer and the soup were excellent. As entrees, we tried the sole and the ribeye. This is a great choice for special occassions, but this is a high-class foodie restaurant, not a meat grill and I would not get steak again at Henri."
Dined on 10/22/2011
The food was great! It was pretty
noisy sitting outside along Michigan Avenue. The inside looked lovely and I can't wait to go back to sit indoors!"
Dined on 10/4/2011
Sort of like eating in a Tiffany
Box. The lush blue tones against a lovely dark paneling was a nice treat. The food portions were small but very tasty. Enjoyed the vintage feel of the cocktails."
Dined on 9/15/2011
Love this place! Yet another
awesome creation by Billy Lawless!!! Thanks, Billy!"
Dined on 7/28/2011
Love everything about this place!
By far my favorite place in the city."
Dined on 7/9/2011
Absolutely one of the greatest
restaurants in the city. Delicious food, great wine, excellent cocktails and superior service. I keep going back because it is simply the best!"
Dined on 6/26/2011
Exceptional experience from food
to cocktails/wine to service to dining room. This is a great special occasion spot. the caviar service which must be reserved in advance and the poached lobster were highlights."
Dined on 6/22/2011
We often need dinner before a
concert at Symphony Center and Henri never fails to deliver wonderful, inventive, nuanced meals. We especially enjoy the game choice that is offered regularly."
Dined on 6/3/2011
Everything is good...I guess
that's the problem. Nothing stood out as spectacular. I mean I travel for work so I've eaten almost everywhere and this is good as just another place for a special occasion."
Dined on 5/7/2011
Love, Love,Love Henri! This is a
restaurant must if you are looking for a wonderful meal and a spectacular ambiance."
Dined on 5/5/2011
The team at Henri are living
definition of customer service. From the Hostest to the Manager, everyone goes out their way to make your dinning experience a positive one. I've had the opportunity to visit Henri two times and each visit was lovely. Check this place out if you want a nice dinner prior to catching the CSO or want to host, a small business dinner."

This is my favorite restaurant in
Chicago right now. The decor is gorgeous, service attentive and elegant and the food is understated yet foodie tasty. You will love this for a date, girls swanky meal and business dinner. Leave your little ones at home so as not to disturb the elegance."
Dined on 3/14/2011
Always fantastic! Great staff,
great food, great wine."
Dined on 2/16/2011
Cozy spot for downtown dinner.
Great for business lunches."
Dined on 1/27/2011
Loved the decor, the food didn't
wow me. Really wanted to love this place so maybe my expectations were too high..."
Dined on 1/13/2011
I went here last December with a
group of friends that were all graduating from Roosevelt. Food and service was outstanding! Can not wait to go back when I am in the city again."
Dined on 12/16/2010
Elegant atmosphere but I was not
overly impressed with the meal...nor was my dining companion. Very pricy and obviously paying for ambience, location and very good service. Ideal place to stop in for an after dinner cordial and the desserts are fantastic. Great lounge music as well."
Dined on 12/6/2010
Spent a romantic anniversary
dinner at Henri and had one of the best meals of my life. We received complementary champagne due to our anniversary. The wine and cocktail list was interesting with some great finds. The sommelier made it to our table on more than one occasion. He was rounding and happened to hear us discussing a wine on the menu and showed up with a complementary taste for us within minutes. From appetizers through dessert, the food was nothing but exceptional. Definitely a special occasion place not to disappoint."
