Diner Reviews
  • "Fantastic. Some of the best food and service in the country. Plus an incredible wine list"
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "We like to cook and to eat out as well and have pretty wide experience. Acadia is amazing. The professional and friendly waitstaff, the interesting wine list and menu, and the tastes--out of this world. We rate it in our top 10 meals ever. That list includes restaurants in Paris, London and Scotland."

  • "The food, service and ambiance at Acadia were all superb. I rate it 4.5*. Acadia is doing all the right things to create a pleasant environment commensurate with the cuisine. The dining rooms are calm, with good, yet soft, lighting, widely spaced tables, comfy seating, and unobtrusive pleasant music. Service is polished, yet warm & witty; the servers did a nice job of adapting their style to the diners at each table to set everyone at ease. Service was knowledgeable, attentive and timely. The tab at Acadia will be what you'd expect from a fine restaurant, but it delivers good value, given the outstanding food and service. It'll be on my list of contenders next time I'm up for a little celebration."

  • "This was our second journey to Acadia, and it was just as impressive as the first. The restaurant has a great vibe -- elegant with no pretense or stuffiness -- and the staff follows suit and aren't afraid to smile or laugh. The food (and drink) is, of course, the star with each course leaving your mouth watering for more. The wine pairings, which we enjoyed both times, are thoughtful and often off the beaten path. The wines truly accentuate (rather than cloak) the food experience. I highly recommend venturing to the Southside for the Acadia experience."

  • "VERY disappointing. 8:00 reservation yet were directed to bar until 8:30. Ordered drinks (with effort -svc poor) & yet not served until we were at table at 8:40! Both had seafood tasting menu. Portions were "silly small. ' Most were little more that 2 amuse bouche in size, and not impressive. (Understand, we've enjoyed fine dining here for years; we aren't bumpkins.) One young lady who brought food was curt, and later explained, when we asked if she was having a tough night, that she was 'very busy." Hate hearing that, as if the diners should be more appreciative. All service so slow. At 10:30 I asked for the check, and we had only gotten about 6 of 9 courses. Exception-sommelier was great. Clearly do not recommend - $400 for this?!!"

  • "Pleasant ambience, but a little "cold." Delicious food nicely presented and excellent service. Interesting menu selections but I expect to have the option of ordering a salad with my meal."

  • "While I am an avid foodie, there is a limit to what I feel is an adequate portion size that was violated on repeated servings of the tasting menu: too small for even the seasoned palate to fully get the impact of the food. I always needed a bit more to get a sense of the full gustatory impact and also a sense of satiety at the finish. Simly too much money spent for too little food. Really don't have complaints about the overall preperation other than that., ie., the food I ate tasted great in general. Great cocktails."

  • "Acadia is the best Chicago dining experiences we've had in along time. Everything about the evening was spot on. Food preparation was skillfull and creative without being fussy. Attention to ingredients that complimented one another beautifullly. Sevice was informative and attentive but never pretentious. The room is comtemporary in decor but comfortable. The farmed raised sturgeon was the most perfectly prepared fish we have ever tasted. We've had more expensive dining experiences in Chicago that do not compare with Acadia. We are looking forward to returning."

  • "Acadia is a bit out of the way but is well worth finding. The nondescript exterior hides a beautifully decorated interior. There was a special seafood tasting menu featured with the regular chef's tasting menu. We ordered one of each and enjoyed each and every dish. Great presentation, great flavor and excellent service. Wine pairings were well chosen. Cocktails are also excellent. If you are into fine dining, Acadia is a must."

  • "When they called to reconfirm the reservation, they asked for food allergies or diet restrictions, I told them my daughter is vegetarian. So thinking they would prepare something for her, instead, they just ask her to order off the menu and take off the non-vegetarian ingredients. And the portion is remains the same less the non-vegetarian items and charged us the same price. So imagine, seafood risotto without the seafood? The portion become extremely small....when it is small to begin with. That's not being accommodating to vegetarians?"

  • "I've been to Acadia 4 times in the last 2 years and have never been disappointed. I tell my dining companions to expect not just an outstanding meal, but an entire exceptional dining experience. There is such fine attention to every detail and the result is a flawless, superb evening."

  • "Our entire dining experience was incredible. We were very impressed by the level of knowledge everyone on the team has. The food was of course unbelievable (in particle, the uncommon ingredient pairings were unique and very good). A must try Chicago gem."

  • "Acadia excels in every aspect of haute cuisine. The food, as it should be, is the center of attention and Chef McCaskey's creations dazzled us with layers of flavor and textures. The service was cordial, well paced, and professional and the wine and cocktails were notable. Acadia's star is well deserved. Our only suggestion for a better dinner is to provide somewhat larger portions. Food is sustenance so, one should never leave hungry, even if satisfied."

  • "We had the winter tasting menu, and not a single course was "just okay" as we often find. The wine pairings were spot-on, too."

  • "Impeccable service, artful and delicious food and all for a non-outrageous price. I dare say that it's a special experience that is accessible. Seamless service from valet to departure. It felt really special and didn't break the bank."

  • "We visited Acadia for our 3rd dining experience and were not disappointed. We enjoyed the chef's menu accompanied by wine tastings. The service was outstanding, food was divine and the pairings were exceptional. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fine dining establishment!"

  • "Chef McCaskey and his staff provide an outstanding dining experience. From his imaginative cuisine to the outstanding wine list full of hidden gems you never heard of, the evening is an occasion to remember. Jason leads diners to the perfect wines for their dinner. And the quiet dining room with ample space between tables is perfect for conversation or romance."

  • "We are not locals, but found Acadia based on the previous reviews. We were not disappointed. We come from a town, DC, where the noise level in most restaurants, even highly rated ones, is deafeningly unpleasant, so the quiet atmosphere of Acadia was a plus. We were immediately greeted as we came in (not obvious where the entrance was as we got out of the cab), and taken to our table. Service was spot on - not overwhelming but attentive. Food was great. Found a nice bottle of affordable Rhone wine. We had the a la carte menu, and each course was totally enjoyable. The only negative that lobster was not available. However, I even was enticed to have dessert, which is rare. All in all, first rate."

  • "The food is amazing here. Chef McCaskey and his team does a marvelous job with the food that makes me want to come back again and again. My parents use to call Tru their favorite restaurant but Acadia has now taken that spot."

  • "One of the best meals my wife and I had in quite some time. Every course was memorable."

  • "We went there for valentine dnner after reading some reviews, we were taken to our table on time for the reservation, however the 1st dish arrived about 35 min later ! Very late given that was a 5 course fix menu, also over 10 min between the courses. The food didn't have anything special at all, we had very high expectations given that the bill was north of $300 I am a Amex centurion member and I have been in many many restaurants arond the world, I would say that this one is in the very bottom list of value, quality, service. Do not recommend and will most definable won't come back"

  • "The room is gorgeous! Modern/contemporary, very minimalist chic. Food selections was well-put together same thing with the wine list. We had 3 courses each adn shared the profiteroles for dessert. Each dish was perfectly prepared, and perfectly seasoned. Service was very attentive! I would definitely go back again!"

  • "Outstanding food and service. A delightful restaurant for a memorable evening. Excellent, attenitive, but not intrusive service."

  • "It was a freezing cold Tuesday night, but we were happy we walked the four blocks for a beer and a burger at Acadia's bar. As always, the service was impeccable, the burger was delicious and we were seated at the bar next to casual friends who became better friends over the 90 minutes we spent together. I like Acadia for special events like birthdays and anniversaries, but it is also a great place for a weeknight dinner."

  • "What a great experience. I knew that we were in for a memorable experience just because of the people involved with Acadia but it greatly exceeded our high expectations. The wine program is especially good...go for the pairings. It is like a master class in wine in three hours. Just perfect."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 12th anniversary by going to a different highly rated restaurant three nights in a row. I wish we had gone to Acadia last instead of first. While the other two were great dining experiences, they were definitely a distant second and third behind Acadia. While dining at restaurants two and three we often mentioned to each other how Acadia was better. We did not meet one staff member at Acadia who was not enthusiastic about what they were doing. From the host to the waiter to the busboy, the entire team seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The food was outstanding! I will disclose, that I don't dine at restaurants like this more than once a year, but if I splurge again, Acadia will definitely be on our list."

  • "Acadia deserves its reputation. In a city of many highly rated restaurants, Acadia is where it should be--at the top. The food was superb and seductive and was served by an extremely competent waitstaff. The ambience is sophisticated but not cold, lighting is soft, and tables are well-separated. Portions are not big, but they're smart. The pride Acadia takes in bringing its elite food to its patrons is obvious. From the mixologist at the bar, the sommelier, maitre d, servers, even the car valet--all associated with Acadia feel it is a privilege to work there and meet the very high standards they set for themselves."

  • "We had an excellent meal. The staff was very accommodating, particularly with respect to the gluten-free needs of one of our party. The wines we had were very nice but , overall , the wine list seemed a little sub-par for a restaurant of this upscale nature and quality. Also, be prepared to not be told in advance what the offerings will be for the tasting menu. The decor is a bit spartan."
    Dined on 1/23/2014
  • "Yes, everything was quite tasty but the portions could only satisfy a Lilliputian. Don't come here if you are really hungry. Definitely a chick place."

  • "Very Creative Menu and Amazing Presentation. A hidden gem a few blocks away from McCormick Place. Driving By you would miss but upon entering the MAGIC begins. Welcoming, warm & professional staff, upscale but friendly. Food presentation is a work of art. Definitely an experience! Go! you won't be disappointed."

  • "I eat at a restaurant of this level about once a year and at that frequency I'm fine with a $120 dinner. The food here was delicious, great combinations of textures and flavors, beautifully presented, great service. We never felt rushed, and the staff (primarily Tristan and Eric, and sommelier Jason) were warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. My only complaint is that servings are very small. I am a 115 lb female and don't eat that much, but after first and second courses, my date and I were joking about stopping at Subway on the way back to our hotel. Dessert left us feeling not hungry, but definitely not full. I get that it's labor intensive and that accounts for cost, but at over $100 each I shouldn't leave hungry."

  • "The food was very good but was way too expensive for the quantity provided. I rarely go out to eat at a restaurant and leave hungry."
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "Many thanks to the entire staff, who worked seamlessly together. Before this tasting, my favorite meal was one I had in Paris from another world-class chef. The level of sophistication shown in this tasting menu will be hard to beat. Simply incredible flavors and thoughtful preparations and presentations. The wine pairings were very interesting and delicious. No one was pretentious. Everyone obviously enjoyed their part. Value? Ultimately that's a subjective question. It was very expensive, but when I put the food, wine, and experience (wait staff, this is you!) together, it was totally worth it."

  • "Superb! It was an amazing experience from the moment you walk in the door. The hostess was very pleasant and attentive. The wait staff all worked together seamlessly to provide us with an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was relaxed; truly focusing on dining as an entertainment experience. And the food! The flavors, textures, presentation, just beautifully executed with thought to every detail. We loved the yukon potato risotto so much! The staff noticed that we were sharing our order and brought us each our individual portions. Would definitely recommend to everyone I meet and would gladly come again. Thank you for an amazing experience!"

  • "I am from Louisiana where we take our food pretty seriously. The meal that my daughter and I had at Acadia is one of the overall best I have ever had. Every single item was delicious and interesting. Often even wonderful restaurants will have some fantastic items and some that miss the mark. The charcuterie plate shined with a variety of textures and tastes. A minor quibble is that the plate came with 3 pieces of toast. The service, which was largely impeccable, failed as we couldn't get anyone to address our request for more bread. The lobster was perfectly cooked. still soft and melting. The duck breast, complemented by the foie gras flan makes my mouth water, just thinking about it. The prices were not out of line for similar restaurants."

  • "Made this reservation as a gift for my sister in law and husband as their first night out since having a baby. They ordered the prix fixe menu where when the dessert came, my sister in law had no fruit on her dessert, but her husband did. (neither have any known allergies). Waiter said he would go check on it, and never came back. When the bill came, I had prepaid $250 over the phone and received confirmation from Danielle that it was taken care of, but when sister in law got the bill, only $150 was prepaid. They had to front the remainder. Kind of embarrassing since this was a gift and I thought everything was confirmed. Good food, but it's the little things that count. Didn't expect so many small hiccups for a restaurant of this caliber."
