Academy Street Bistro is a casual dining restaurant serving a new American menu with a French flare. Come try our fresh fish, all natural meats, fresh and local produce. Academy Street Bistro only uses the freshest and highest quality ingredients available. We are committed to local farmers and will use organic produce whenever possible. Our meats are all natural.

  • "The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and the service was good. We started off with a duck appetizer, which was one of the specials, I've had duck many times, but this was way over seasoned, too salty, we couldn't even finish it. I had the scallops, they were definitely not cooked correctly, were very chewy, and the fish was over cooked. I was very disappointed and will not be going back."

  • "Very tasty food albeit the portion size was a bit on the small. We had the wild mushroom raviolis and the lobster risotto. The ravioli were out of this world but there should have been a few more to make the meal more filling. The risotto was also fantastic. Their wine list is excellent and the house wine is better than most top self wines at other restaurants. they also have a nice dessert selection. I highly recommend the profiterols as they were fantastic. We will go there again to try other items on the menu."

  • "Even though the street is the main view, it felt great to drink wine and dine outside among the plants on a Spring night. Waitress was wine-knowledgeable and we enjoyed a nice rose. Scallop and salmon dishes and salads were creative and delicious. Mushroom soup was awesome. For a weeknight the patio was full but plenty of inside seating. Please don't forget to patronize this downtown gem."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Academy Street Bistro. The restaurant was relatively quiet with 4 groups sitting outside and my wife and I getting to choose virtually any table in the main dining room. We split a crab cake (as our appetizer) and found this to be quite delicious. For our entrees, we had the Pork Chop and the Salmon. Both were very good (except the Salmon was not cooked fully and had to be sent back.) The vegetables were pretty standard. For dessert, I selected an apple tart with vanilla ice cream. This was quite flavorful and had a nice presentation. Overall, we thought the restaurant was a bit pricey but the quality of the food was very good."

  • "This was our first time at the bistro. We were attending a wine dinner and it was well attended. We started with eggplant capanota which was delicious. First course was a pasta topped with shrimp that was outstanding. Next was monk fish which I thought had too many green olives that overpowered the fish. Main course was braised lamb and that was amazing. Dessert was a flour less chocolate cake which was rich and decadent. The wine complimented the courses perfectly. The staff provided excellent service and the chef introduced each course and was very approachable. The decor was contemporary with clean lines. We will definitely return."

  • "I took my wife, son, and daughter-in-law for an early dinner. The food was excellent with a nice presentation. Very nice scallops and risotto appetizer and the desserts were excellent as well. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. We will definitely go back and recommend the restaurant to others."

  • "We'd passed the Bistro many times and finally gave it a try one night when all our kids were out doing other things! The rosemary roast chicken was delicious - well-seasoned and well-cooked (loved the corn/mushroom side) - and my wife enjoyed the scallops and risotto, although it did need some salt added. The creme brûlée was terrific. The menu highlights gluten-free options, which is much appreciated, although the choices are not extensive. The menu feels somewhat similar to Peak City Grill in Apex, which we also really enjoy. Very nice warm atmosphere and friendly service. Prices are not unreasonable but it does fit our definition of a special occasion restaurant (most entrees $17-$25). Would certainly go back again!"

  • "Finally Cary has a Bistro restaurant to brag about. Our waiter Philip made us feel right at home from the moment we entered the restaurant and was helpful in selecting our wine and attending our every need. Everything about the menu and preparation exceeded our expectations and that is rare indeed. My wife loved her Gazpacho and I didn't want to share my Mushroom Bisque. The Beet & Goat Cheese salad was epicurian. Prices for entrees were a pleasant surprise. $21 for my Salmon and the same for my wife's wonderful Boeuf a la Bourguignonne that would have made Julia Child proud. We normally never eat dessert but had to try the Apple Tart Tatin. The only disappointment was my Cappucino was weak and not nearly hot enough and cost $5.00."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised with our dinning experience. The service was outstanding (Phillip) and the food was just as good. I had mushroom bisque that was made with several different mushrooms - it was very flavorful. The salmon I ordered for my entrée was prepared as I requested. I really enjoyed my entree. We shared the gluten free chocolate cake, yummy! We are very picky foodies and this restaurant passed our test, we’ll definitely return."

  • "We have been so blessed (via Open Table) to reserve & dine at some of the most amazing places around the world, as well in our back yard here in Cary...I regret to say that after Sat night that Academy Bistro didn't make us want to rush back & RE-BOOK..The food was ok but no more than the 2 stars reviewed as soup had to be sent back as it was "barely" lukewarm..bread had to be wrestled from anyone whom would deliver it & a server that had NO CLUE..nice kid, but NOT TRAINED WELL..Spending over $100 you expect more & better...Academy Bistro is like every other place..YOUR EXPERIENCE MAY VARY..and I hope it does as our journey down Academy Street, felt like a bumpy winding road that we would choose to not venture down again.."

  • "Very nice dinner ! Our first time to Academy Street Bistro. Went in with moderate expectations on a Wednesday night but was very pleased !! Maribeth our server was friendly attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. We split the duck confit salad, and then had the pork chop entree and the mushroom ravioli. All were fantastic. Affordable, some decent wine selections a very nice evening. We'll be back soon."

  • "First time visit for dinner. Two seafood orders - Salmon was excellent, but the Chilean Sea Bass was barely warm and only fair. The service should be better. Drink order was forgotten and had to be ordered again. We decided to split a specialty salad to save room for desert, but the salad came without a second plate. Would have been nice to have another plate. Check was presented with dessert as if we had another appointment, or perhaps the table was needed. No coffee offered after dinner. Server was pleasant, but could have been friendlier. The space is very nice and the hostess was friendly and patient as we spoke to friends on the way to our table. We will try again and look forward to a better time."

  • "We visited the day after Valentine's Day and the place was packed. We arrived a bit early and therein was the first disappointment. The waiting area is a small bench in front of the door. When there was an opening at the bar, we sat down there, but the bar also is very small (8-10 seats). We did get seated close to our reservation time. Service was a bit slow, but the food was outstanding. The bittest problem was the noise level; we had to literally shout to be heard over the din. We will go back, but will try to chose a more quiet weekday."

  • "Atmosphere and service was great but I'm disappointed in the food quality. Almost everything we had was lacking in seasoning and was very bland. The seared scallops were not seared but appeared boiled and had no flavor. The risotto lacked in flavor. The steak was cooked well but again had no flavor. The lobster tail was very rubbery and hard to chew. The best part of the entree was the potato Au gratin. The desert was the best part of the whole meal. The raspberry cheesecake was great. But great desert and good potatoes au gratin do not make up for the other downfalls. And since the mine and my wife's meal plus 2 glasses of wine was $134 I'll pass on giving the restaurant a second chance."

  • "We had high expectations after reading reviews for this restaurant. The waitress was not aware our appetizers hadn't been delivered, so timing was off for entrees. She never came back to inquire how the entrees were. I understand having the two TVs at the bar, but the additional TVs in the dining area adjacent to the bar were downright distracting. When I'm paying this much for dinner I don't expect to have a TV right next to me. Be aware the portions are small! The staff are all friendly."

  • "This was our second visit after a wonderful first experience. This time we had a different server who seemed a bit off his game the night we were there. He was slow to get to us and then we had to wave him down and ask him to take our drink orders. After placing our food orders, he came back to the table to ask us to clarify what a few in our party ordered. Upon ordering a second drink, I was told the bar only had two blue cheese olives left, and was offered nothing as a substitute. I'll attribute it to a bad night, but it did not set the tone we had hoped since we had two couples with us on their first visit. Food wise, all was great!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Academy Street Bistro for the first time. From the moment we walked in the hostess and employees greeted us with a friendly welcome. The ambience was outstanding with lovely table settings and a well lit dining room. The bistro burger was very well prepared and the fresh mushroom ravioli was very tasty however the portion was small for an entree. Our waiter was very attentive. All in all our experience was very positive. We will be back in the spring to enjoy dining on the patio."

  • "My wife and I were very excited to have a fine dining restaurant in downtown Cary but unfortunately we will never be back as something has seriously gone wrong. We both ordered specials of the evening. After quite a delay we were curtly informed they were out of the scallops my wife ordered. No attempt to be nice. My wife reordered and when the salmon she had reordered arrived it was two small over-cooked pieces from near the tail. Very fishy. My lamb shank came and was the size of an ox tail swimming in a barley soup. It was advertised as a one pound shank over celery root purée. I questioned the server and was told that I had received what I ordered and that's all they had. No credit on the bill. Low quality, high prices."

  • "My wife suggested we go to this restaurant with another couple. None of us had been there before, even though it fairly close to where we live. As soon as we walked in the door the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. Later, one of the owners stopped by our table to check in and tell us a bit about the restaurant. The bar selection was ample, with great wines, belgium beers, and a superb gin Martini. The food was superb. We covered the gamut from beef to seafood to chicken to pork. We all commented on how good it was. We ended with desserts and coffee. The deserts were fantastic, but the coffee only warm. Our server quickly corrected this with a fresh pot."

The mussels appetizer was perfectly cooked with a delicate piquant chablis sauce. It was a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "The Academy Street Bistro has a wonderful ambiance and a great wait staff. Our server was terrific! 1st course Lobster Bisque was very tasty although not as thick as one would usually expect. Main course of Lamb chops for my wife and the surf and turf for myself were presented well and the lamb and tenderloin were cooked to perfection. The half Main lobster well edible lacked the sweet flavor one would expect. The desert trio was to die for, a fine finish to a delightful meal."

  • "It was an unusually warm Sunday for Dec, so we ate brunch outside. The mimosas were wonderful. The eggs benedict on crabcakes and spinach was delicious. The crab cakes, which we had had on a previous visit, were mostly meat - no filler. The veggie omlet was also very good. The wait staff is pleasant and knows the menu. We would recommend Academy Street Bistro Cafe for brunch or dinner."

  • "The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were pressed for time, so they were very vigilant at getting our food - which was delicious. A little pricy, so would be good for special occasions. The food servings were small, which might not please some, but was just right for me!"
