We were going to be traveling to an evening concert at the Weinberg Center (right down the street from Acacia). We love this restaurant - it is always a delight to come here. We especially love the menu options, many of which are farm to table - and you can order smaller portions and everything we have ever ordered is delicious.

I'm afraid I cannot recommend Acacia to anyone at this point. The service was ok but not that attentive considering what you are paying for. The food was bland and not well prepared. I had to send my steak back because it was under cooked and they served me the exact same piece of meat and sides. The steak had been cut in half to check for doneness and they just put the two pieces of meat back on the grill for a few minutes and reserved it to me. By then it was dry because there were no juices left and they did not re-plate the sides. It was our anniversary and considering the way the meal went, the least they could have done was comp'd us a dessert.

This was a return visit to Acacia. We concluded that the wonderful server we had a year ago was an anomoly, and the hosts on both visits, and our server(s) on the second visit did not/do not match the quality of food served. We were once again greeted without a smile. Even though we made a reservation, it still seemed that accommodating us was, well, an inconvenience for the host. We learned of the specials after we ordered, only because we overheard another server announce them at another table. Had to ask for bread. Waited an inordoinate amount of time for unremarkable cut up french bread to arrive. Not sure we would return, in spite of the wonderful food...

My brunch desires? They start with a serene dining room where you can have a easy conversation with friends. Acacia's back room is lovely, and on a warmer day, you can opt to sit outside on the beautiful patio. We were seated near a large party, but the noise level remained hushed, by magic--or perhaps good insulation. Don't miss the pomegranate mimosa, which is delicious, and the chef's "gift" of a chocolate doughnut was a nice touch. But skip the French toast--or ask for syrup on the side. I love crisp bacon, but here the bacon is draped over the bread, and the entire thing is drenched in syrup, resulting in a soggy mess. I found myself stealing envious glances at my friend's frittata. I still can't wait to give Acacia another chance!

We have enjoyed Acacia in the past, but find that there is little to make us look forward to returning. While the atmosphere is most pleasant and relaxing, the food seems to have slipped into mediocrity. Of the five dishes we tried (two appetizers, two small plates, one small entrée) two were tasteless, one acceptable but ordinary and the last two good but not really memorable. Our server was friendly, charming, and enthusiastic, but unfortunately, not particularly attentive. We had to request water refills at least three times and request to have used plates removed twice.

Food was tasty! My arugula and beet salad was really good. The restaurant might benefit from a change in decor as it was a little ho-hum compared to the food it was serving. I was also a bit surprised that on a beautiful fall night they didn't take advantage of using their outdoor patio for seating.

A very nice night spot in Fredericks theater district. Perfect for dinner before a show. I especially liked the half portion option which is still generous but allies you to sample more menu choices such as soup, salad, appetizers, and desserts. Filet mignon was perfect as were their scallops both signature dishes. It was my first visit and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a complete dining experience. Also, municipal parking lot is right across the street.

if you look around you at the other tables you will notice there is not a salt or pepper shaker to be found. My conclusion is this chef believes that if you have to season the food, he's failed. The butternut squash soup confirmed this hypothesis with a perfect roundness of sweet, peppery, and curry flavors. The filet mignon that followed was perfectly cooked with grill seasonings that let the meat speak for itself - and the product was up to the test. Several good choices in wines by the glass with California, Northwest, Argentina, and France available. Service is very professional and prices quite reasonable for this level of dining experience.

More vegetarian options please. The fried green tomatoes were a disappointment. The kung pao tofu too sweet. Brown rice please, not white. Primary reason to patronize Acaicia is server Alix, who (based on past experience at Acacia and elsewhere) is highly superior.

  • Great food, but too noisy
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 8/22/2014
The menu had a nice selection of starters and provides an option of ordering entrees as a small or large plate. The wine menu had a lot of offerings; for example, there were more than 10 Chardonnay's to choose from, but there wasn't anyone with whom to discuss the differences between them. We wanted something oaky and ended up with a thin, acidic white. We arrived around 8PM; it was bustling and extremely noisy. One had to speak loudly to be heard. The dining room is carpeted, so it was surprising that the sound was so amplified. Interactions with the server were abrupt and rushed, although the serving of the meal itself was not rushed.

As we head off to NC we took our neighbors out for a farewell dinner. Turns out their favorite restaurant was ours and Acacia lived up to the great meals we've had there once again. We spent longer than usual as we relived the past 15 years in Frederick and were never rushed by the staff. The meal was outstanding ranging from three different fish choices to Kung Pao Chicken. The brussels sprouts appetizer stands up to the best we've had in DC.

    Dined on 7/27/2014
This area reminds me a lot of Fells Point in Baltimore or Main St in Ellicott City. Most of the locations along the street were at one time Row homes that have been nicely remodeled as has Acacia. I also noted that many of the people who were dining there knew each other implying that it's a neighborhood favorite. Their Sunday brunch menu offers a nice selection which will accommodate most palates. I had the eggs benedict and my companion had the kung pao chicken dish. Both were very tasty. The saltiness of the ham on my eggs benedict perfectly offset and added to the tastiness of the dish. My friend was well pleased with the kung pao although she felt like there were too many red peppers. All in all I would go again.

My boyfriend and I made reservations just 30 minutes before dining, and asked specifically to be sat on their back patio. We were seated promptly, and the ambiance was exquisite. Beautifully lit trees, perfect for a midsummer night's date. We started with the heirloom tomatoes and iceberg wedge, which were average. We then had the brussel sprouts, which NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE! I could eat those every day! My boyfriend had the filet mignon, which was wonderful. I had the Duck Duck Duck! which was good, but a little heavy on the barbecue sauce, and could use a bit more flavor in the corn grits. Our server was AMAZING! Her name is Morgan, perfectly attentive. Overall a wonderful date night! We'll most likely be back again.

My first experience years ago was great, so I really would have wanted to write a great review and being it was my wife's first experience with Acacia. Unfortunately, this past Wednesday night the Cuban tacos were greasy, the crispy shrimp were not crispy. The lamb was cooked wonderfully, however, the veggies that came with it were greasy. The creme bruley (or however you spell it) was great.

This was our initial visit to Acacia. We were drawn to the restaurant from the advertising of "fresh", "local" ingredients and some great vegetarian and gluten-free options. We were not disappointed! The location was comfortable, and convenient to parking in the Frederick City parking garage on Church St. It was Sunday afternoon so not overly-crowded with options to sit up front with a street view, in the main dining room or on the patio. We opted for the patio seating that was in a quaint garden-setting in the courtyard. The food was most excellent in both presentation and taste (Sea scallops). Staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the menu items. Definitely planning on returning.

Acacia, in all honesty, was a last minute reservation. My wife suggested going out to dinner and I had procrastinated to the point that most other places were unavailable. Sounds like an awful start to a high recommendation, doesn't it? Well, it was one of those times where my procrastination paid off in spades! Acacia was marvelous! Between a very diverse menu that included both a Chef's Tasting Menu and a regular small/large portion menu, a wine list that was not overly pretentious but had a good variety of reds and whites and service from Morgan who was very helpful, it was an excellent time. The Duck! Duck! Duck! and Chicken Milanese from the Tasting Menu were amazing, and the Shrimp Penne was astounding! In short: Go!
