Acacia is a wonderful restaurant
to have in the Van Ness neighborhood. It is great on its own -- great food, wine, etc. But it is especially appreciated here. The owner and servers could not be nicer or more helpful, and the chef continues to make creative, delicious dishes."

We came with great anticipation.
We left declaring this as our worst dining experience ever--and we're fond of eating out. The food was fair, and start to finish the service was unacceptable. At the host stand we were ignored for at least 7 minutes and had to find someone to seat us. Finally seated, we were presented an over-priced V-day pre-fixe meal menu. Though the restaurant called to confirm our visit, we were never informed that pre-fixe was the ONLY option. Still, despite the limited menu with the world's smallest crab cake, the items served were out of order and with very long waits between selections. The sounds of our stomachs grumbling were outweighed by the voices of the kitchen and service staff screaming at one another."

I believe the owner of this
restaurant wanted my husband and I to have a wonderful time dining on Valentine's Day. However this special occasion was a bit challenging for this restaurant. They were late in seating us and the service was slow. The waiter did not appear to truly be a waiter. He was missing the charm and knowledge of a good service provider. Our meals were fine, but nothing special. The tables were too close together and we could hear every word of our neighboring table. We recommend less patrons and a more manageable menu. Keep working on it."

Our reservation was at 6. They
told us to arrive early because they were completely full and would be busy. That being said, we arrived at 5:45 and the staff was not ready and we were the first ones in the restaurant. We walked in and the staff was arguing over which table was 12. The server was nervous and had did not know much about the menu. Not 100% sure of the menu e asked him for recommendations, he had none. A different woman brought us our first course and asked if we wanted to add the wine pairings. Also, the food was OK at best. My chicken tasted like something I have made at home many times and the cake was crumbly and seemed old or like it had been sitting out all day. I was extremely disappointed and will not be back."

We frequently dne at Acacia
Bistro. There are many elegant and unusual options for vegetarians as well as for carnivores. The soups are always a favorite. Don't miss the chocolate lava cake. The service is always excellent and the staff always offer warm greetings."

Acacia may seem stark from the
outside, but the food and the service are brilliant. They clearly understand how to create a great dining experience from using high quality ingredients to offering a thoughtful wine list to providing even people with food issues (e.g., gluten) a wonderful array of dishes to choose from. The service is low in pretention and high in food knowledge and caring about the people around the table. Go with their wine suggestions and go hungry!"

This was our first visit to Acacia
and we found it attractive. They did seem understaffed that day. It took a while for us to be greeted even though there were few occupied tables. After we were seated, it took perhaps 10 minutes before our waiter appeared. We ordered and then waited an hour for our sandwiches. They were delicious. Then it took another 10 minutes to flag down our waiter for the check. In all, a quick sandwich lunch kept us in a nearly empty restaurant for two hours. The staff was polite but largely unavailable. What could have been a nice lunch experience was made annoying because the restaurant wasn't staffed appropriately."

Great food; terrific personal
attention by host/owner interesting Meditarranean cuisine"

After visiting Acacia at lunch and
happy hour, I was excited about taking a group of friends there for dinner. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to my hopes. The service and wine selection were highlights, but our meals were uneven in quality. Two people ordered a pasta that was mediocre -- both complained that the dish was lacking in flavor, even though the menu description suggested that it would be a very flavorful dish. However, two of us enjoyed our meals a great deal, so it was awkward to be enthusiastic about our meals while our companions had 'buyer's' remorse' about theirs. Consequently, I would not recommend the restaurant to others for dinner unless/until I had another -- hopefully better -- experience there."

We are so glad the bufallo burger
is back! I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the embassies nearby."

Acacia Bistro has terrific food,
with a menu of both small and main course dishes. There's a mild Middle Eastern bent to the restaurant but it's better categorized as eclectic. Dishes like kale salad, seared tuna, scallops, pastas, are uniformly good and nicely presented. It's a relatively small restaurant so the noise level is quite manageable. A real find."

I have eaten here many times and
have never been disappointed - and this time was no different. The food is fresh and prepared wonderfully. The service is also terrific."

Introduced a friend to this
restaurant on this visit. We were both happy with the whole experience. She said she will return."

Have enjoyed Acacia in the past
but were disappointed with our last visit. The waitress was indifferent and when we asked for her opinion of an entree she responded dully " I have never seen anyone order that and don't even know if we have it!" We had to ask for water and bread after she said it would be right over, never took our appetizer plates off the table when dinner was served so we did! The food was just warm so was returned to warm up with no apologies. She left for the evening walking by us without saying anything. However the evening was redeemed by another waitress DeDe who couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. They did start closing everything down by 9 which we thought was early for a Friday. Would have stayed longer!"

Prices are high for the quantity
of food. The lamb sausage pannini, for example, had good quality bread and the sausage was good but there was very little of it. Some dishes were too greasy and the talpia sandwich was bland."

Acacia is a delightful place to
dine. The food is interesting and delicious. Best of all is the nice and welcoming environment provided by the owner and the staff of the restaurant. Wonderful for almost any occasion."
Dined on 7/7/2013
Do not recommend the food (risotto
was good but prosciutto, breads, etc. terrible); service inexperienced, slow and/or difficult to communicate with."
Dined on 6/27/2013
We had several small plates, many
of which were very good with the exception of the kale salad, which was dry and waaaaaay too much (there's only so much kale one person can eat). The service was good and we enjoyed ourselves."
Dined on 6/15/2013
We had the 3 cheese and meat
charcuterie boards then ordered 3 dishes from the small plates. Their by the glass selection was pretty good however the first glass I had was a bit off like the bottle had been opened for a while. I didn't send it back just switched to something else afterwards. They were out of the blue cheese but the rest of the selections were nice. Of the small plates the risotto was good nothing special but not bad. The gnocchi however was not, they were greasy and the mushrooms completely overshadowed the honey and white truffle. By far the best dish was the shrimp on a bed of paprika aioli and bulger wheat. While it was fine, it was overpriced. For the money there are too many great restaurants to return there."

Had read a number of good reviews
of this restaurant in otherwise restaurant desert near Van Ness. Went at lunch and food and service were subpar, not busy either. Not worth a visit unless you are in need of something in the neighborhood."
Dined on 5/31/2013
Unbelievably great food. Four
"small plates" more than adequate for two people. The kale salad and Brussel sprouts were superbly prepared and served, as were the other two dishes. A truly wonderful AND healthy dining experience. GREAT!"

We've been going to Acacia Bistro
ever since it opened. We usually order a variety of small plates rather than entrees; salads are always good. The chef goes heavy on salt but is happy to oblige salt-free requests. Desserts can be hit-or-miss: tart shells tend to be thick and on the hard side. Try the berry cobbler if it's on the menu; the ricotta walnut cake was a winner."
Dined on 5/21/2013
The food was delicious - the
lentil soup, the salad, the risotto...it was perfect for a graduation dinner and for my parents to meet and talk with my boyfriend's parents!"
Dined on 5/18/2013
Went to Mother's Day brunch.
Apparently, two of their staff did not show up and the result was a disaster. Very slow service, very disorganized. With 3 kids, it was a nightmare! They were very apologetic, but seemed incapable of making any adjustments. Maybe just bad luck....but if they had handled it better, I might have given it another chance....but I won't."

We went to Acacia for
post-graduation Brunch. We waited 45mins. just to order. Had to ask for water after 45min. Horribly understaffed. The food was good, but the experience was the worst!,,,"

Came here after work with a group
of work friends and we really enjoyed ourselves! We all decided to get a few small plates so we could try out a few things as well as some drinks. The wines we a hit as well as the mojitos with fresh mint grown from the restaurant's own herb garden! For small plates we tried the cigar börek (turkish cheese pastry) which was on special, the oven-roasted brussel sprout dish, the hand-toasted ricotta gnocchi with wild mushrooms and the vegetable risotto. All were fantastic! Really incredible! Then we decided to split the chocolate ganache tart which comes out deliciously warm with a side of homemade vanilla bean ice cream. I can't say enough how much we enjoyed our meal! We'll be back!"

Close to Dutch Embassy and a great
place to have a quick meal before attending an event!"

In a neighborhood (Van Ness) where
there are almost no restaurants for grownups, Acacia is a gem. They have great mediterranean food, many interesting specials, and delicious desserts. It is a lovely atmosphere and they also have outside tables when the weather is warm."
Dined on 5/1/2013
excellent menu, much improved in
the last year. service could have been a little more attentive"

Charming maitre d' from Istanbul.
Great service; very good food."
Dined on 4/25/2013
Food was fantastic. Great
menu! Trying to "get by" with one server during lunch will loose them move customers than worth the labor $. It took over 2 hours for lunch - we weren't in a rush but, the delay between ordering appetizers/delivery and re-checks after entree were VERY noticeable. Would only recommend if not in a rush or not trying to impress a client."
Dined on 4/16/2013
Food was creative, well-prepared.
Sad that the tap beers weren't available. Amazing dessert selections."
Dined on 4/12/2013
Acacia is our go-to neighborhood
place. The current chef is more adventurous than the founder, but the food is still very good - especially the specials. They tend to go heavy on the salt. I ask for no salt and it comes out fine. Desserts are hit-or-miss. Last time 2 of 3 desserts (berry cobbler and chocolate ganache) were very good, pecan pie was so-so. The cobbler was baked to order."
Dined on 4/12/2013
Really a pleasant surprise. A
neighborhood restaurant that is much more than it appears! We will go back."
Dined on 4/12/2013
Acacia is a lovely bistro, with
very good food, and a wonderful feel to it. The waiters are very helpful, and we are very fortunate to have this gem in our neighborhood."
Dined on 3/23/2013
Acacia Bistro wants to be a
neighborhood place with good food and drink. It is an attractive place with a nice bar and very outstanding bartender. Acacia has a decent Happy Hour until 7:30pm with nice nibbles at the bar area. The owner is omnipresent, and that can be very helpful. Acacia is still evolving--and doing so in the right direction."
Dined on 3/20/2013
We had a wonderful dinner -- the
food was excellent and the service very attentive. The menu provides a range of options, with fresh ingredients."
