Diner Reviews
  • "Very nicely greeted by the hosts staff! My fav dishes: zucchini blossom, pork belly, lamb."

  • "It seems that every restaurant in LA right now is a small plate affair. Family style they tell you. Three plates per person should do it. And you can bet dollars to donuts that they will be hyping a cauliflower something, or a kale something. So if you do, please make sure it at least done well. Not here. This is a chef that seems as tired of these dishes as I am. Everything served was just south of interesting. In fact, it was downright dull, and even more so because the place is pretty beautiful. An example of atmosphere being tastier than the food."

  • "Took a special someone there for dinner and had a wonderful evening. Ambience, food and service all top notch. A beautiful restaurant to set the right tone."

  • "Acabar a neighborhood spot and we had been wanting to try it out but saved it for a special occasion, my husband's birthday, because we knew it would be pricey. It was…but worth every penny! The food was spectacular…meant for sharing and for 3 we ordered one large plate and five small ones and each was fantastic. The blistered peppers are not to be missed although we also adored the whole sea bass and the tuna sashimi. We had a neighborhood coupon so the cocktails were free (we only expected one to be free but they comp'd both). Our waiter was sweet, knowledgable and attentive, the manager came and welcomed us as did the owner…we couldn't have asked for more attention! As it was a birthday, they also comp'd dessert. A great evening!"

  • "We used to go to this place occasionally when it was the old Dharma Greb The new incarnation is infinitely better. The space is beautiful and quiet enough to have a great evening visiting with our guests. The small plates menu has a number of interesting and delicious options. One of our favorites was the can of sardines served with toast. It sounds simple but we found ourselves trying to duplicate it at home...without success!"

  • "Excellent food and service and nice atmosphere creates an exceptional, and probably unappreciated, dining experience. A surprising treat."

  • "The food is very good and the restaurant is beautiful. We went for dinner during the week and, although half of the tables were empty, the service was really slow."

  • "it is a beautiful space classic Moroccan. the food was amazing and our waiter was charming ,attentive and helpful in picking out the perfect dishes to try!"

  • "The food was delightful - delicious and creatively prepared. The service attentive and the surroundings exquisite."

  • "Delicious food and great ambience!! Everything we ordered was full of flavor, loved all the appetizers and the whole fish was magnificent Had a few great drink too. They also have a great lounge area with music."

  • "This is a little Moroccan palace that will transport you into wonderland! Great contemporary food and fabulous wine list. I can't describe how beautiful it is inside. And hip DJ music and dancing too! Must see."

  • "I've been to Acabar a number of times now, and I have to say if you haven't been, you really should try it. The restaurant is a beautiful Moroccan palace transported the place directly from Marrakesh that really has to be seen to be appreciated. Simply excellent ambience. The menu has been evolving since they opened about a year ago, which is a good thing. They have exotic dishes, but are not limited to Moroccan. My favorites: Spanish sardines (do yourself a favor and try them), country crouton (with oven dried peaches), spicy prawns, prime rib-eye steak, and crispy sea bass. All delicious. Acabar is also known for it's mixology, so order a specialty drink (mint julep, zombie, or ask the bartender to design one for you)."

  • "Acabar restaurant serves delicious food in a lovingly restored historic LA landmark restaurant. Celebrity sightings optional."

  • "The food was amazing, service was amazing (great waiter and manager offering out of the way service), and the place is beautiful. Once you get over the fact that it does become a busy, packed lounge (given the fact that it is in the heart of hwood) there is nothing not to love about this place."

  • "Beautiful restoration of a Hollywood Moroccan themed landmark. Each small plate was terrific on it's own, but trying to make a meal without getting over-sauced and flavored is a challenge. The Halibut is a good choice with one or two small dishes. Plenty for two. The new small dessert menu needs some work. Bonbons and macarons are fun, but the yummy factor was low."

  • "Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and exceptional food. Everything we ordered from appetizer to dessert was fantastic, but we especially liked the Crispy Whole Sea Bass. Had the perfect crust on the outside, light and flaky on the inside, with just the perfect amount of flavor in the peppercorn sauce. Our hats off to chef de cuisine, Kevin for creating such a masterpiece dish. "

  • "The waiter claimed that everything on the menu was amazing and that no one has ever left disappointed. Well, he was wrong. The food was very mediocre, and for the price you pay, totally not worth it! They had even run out of a specific menu item we had ordered. I'm typically a fan of high-end, trendy restaurants, but Acabar left me disappointed. I wouldn't go back for dinner again. I did like the ambiance though. If I were to go back, I'd solely go back for drinks at the bar/lounge."

  • "The Maître D' accommodated our wish to seat us at a more romantic table for our anniversary celebration. They have utilized the old Dar El Maghreb's basic decor and expanded on it, so it's pleasant Moroccan decor. Now it accommodates many more customers and seating is at regular table height. I enjoyed our corner seating on sofa with cushions. The food is middle eastern/Moroccan fusion, with good taste and presentation. Our favorite dishes were: Skewered spicy prawns, boneless chicken wings (with charred dates) and the macaroon sandwiches. Even though the noise level was high , we had a great time. We will go again and treat some special guests, too."

  • "The service is quite slow and has a bit of an attitude, but this drinks are solid and the scene is pretty trendy. I would avoid for a romantic dinner."

  • "Food and service were great. Portions are small so it's tapas style. I recommend one plate per person without sharing. We ordered the pork belly, prawns, artichoke salad, and the snapper. All were amazing. Great place to take friends visiting from out of town as well."

  • "I've been to Acabar several times now, and I have to say that this place never fails to impress. The décor is a beautiful moroccan palace, complete with an open air atrium in the middle bar area. It is probably one of the most beautiful restaurants in LA and has to be seen to be appreciated. The food is masterfully prepared and served in small bites so each plate can easily be shared by the whole table. Great for people who like to have a little bite of many dishes; no need to commit to any one item. I also noticed that many menu items have changed to accommodate what is best/fresh for the season. I was happy to see a more reasonably priced steak dish. Finally, the service is excellent with a very knowledgeable staff. Wonderful!"

  • "Food and drinks were horrible. Had the hanger steak, took 2 bites and spit it out. Couldn't wait to leave."

  • "I have been dining here since they opened last summer. FANTASTIC restaurant with amazing food and service. GM, Eric, stopped by our table and thanked us for ongoing business. Crispy sea bass (for two), charred boneless chicken wings and the skewered prawns are nothing short of amazing. Make your weekend reservations at least 1-2 weeks in advance. Keep up the good work- great food, great drinks and unique vibe!!"

  • "From food to service, top notch. We were sorry to see chef Becerra's Palate Food + Wine close. Thank goodness he is back. A truly outstanding service from end-to-end. Can't wait to go back. Special kudos to Amber, the superb hostess!!!"

  • "The moment you walk into Acabar you're transported to a sexy, exotic and suprisingly inviting place. I have been several times in the last couple of weeks - twice on a date and once with a group. Dining in the main dining room there is a great vibe, beautiful design and yummy plates - the Charred Octopus with chick peas, the Mushroom Dumplings and the Grilled Prawns are all delicious with interesting flavor combinations you can't quite put your finger on, but are enjoyable both at first bite and everlasting. If you're with a group or just want to have drinks, the open air center bar is a great place to start with a cocktail around the fire pit, before moving into the lounge for music and even a little dancing if you're so inclined."

  • "it did bother me the way the waitress treated the bus boy. He was trying to be helpful and she was bossy and nasty towards him. Quite embatessing. In several ocasions when we asked about a dish the reply was the same; "oh, it is very popular". That to me doesn't show knowledge about the food."

  • "Wife and I dined here on an early sunday evening reservation. Impressive decor and ambiance. Very friendly service. Some delicious dishes (octopus, mushroom dumplings, mussels) and some good dishes. A reasonable set of choices for vegetarians, so makes this a respectable option for meat / vegetarian couples. The cocktails were creative and well balanced. Noise level was just right early to midway through our meal, but got a bit louder later on. But I'm becoming my dad, so take that into account. I'd come back."

  • "Noisy, expensive, small plates that are just awful. Save your money."

  • "We love ambiance & service. It is not a place for have good choice for dinner but for a fun night and not care much for the food. Not much of food selection. One dishes has been served with the piece 3"x 7" of newspaper (for decor under the food). I have returned it and told them that Health Department will not like it. There is printed ink that full of lead. The manager has taken care of the problem promptly. Cheers!"

  • "It was our first time there & we had a great booth & the ambiance was great. Our server promptly came over, took our drink order & told us the specials for the evening. Everything we had was delicious, was prepared wonderfully, and we would come back again. I do not eat dairy & there were plenty of options for me on the menu."

  • "Had the tuna tartare and the sea bass for two. Both were excellent! Beautiful decor and great service. One of the best new restaurants I have been to in a long time. Got there for a 6:30pm reservation on a Saturday night and scene was tranquil. By the time we left a little after 8pm kind of manic. Two thumbs up!"

  • "Acabar is great for an intimate dinner, with the added luxury of a bar and private rooms. The ambience is well funded and very attractive and the waiters and help are very professional. The menu and presentation of the food is excellent."

  • "I've loved Octavio's cooking at Patina and best at Palate. The food here is wonderful, Octavio's signatures are everywhere, but this place is a club/lounge type place as opposed to a restaurant, per se. Be ready for a club vibe instead of a fine dining destination. I'll still be going for Octavio's food, but its not a relaxed mellow vibe as was Palate, and for that, I'm disappointed."

  • "Again with not being sat until well over 45 minutes past our reservations. Maybe these restaurants don't respect OpenTable enough to honor their reservations appropriately? Excellent food though and fun atmosphere!"

  • "The food was 'OK'. Wish they had focused on Moroccan instead of trying to cover the entire 'silk road'. Drinks were nice. The lounge is very pretty but with the music had been a bit chiller. It was like a lounge trying to be a club, just be an awesome lounge with good drinks and cool music. Don't try to be a club, it really cheapens the entire place. Probably won't last long, sadly."
