  • "The food and service here is one of the best of any restaurants that I have encountered. The food is consistently above expectations. They are approaching 50 years of service (since 1965). That speaks volumes for the quality of service and food serviced. I live about 80 miles from the restaurant but will continue to go back whenever my schedule allows the trip."

  • "We typically go to the "Barn" when we are in Charlottesville at least once. The Fourth of July is an always date. We ad gone to the Downtown Grille in prior years as well, but the quality has markedly declined there. This normally allows us to go twice to the Barn."

  • "This restaurant on US 29 N in Charlottesville has been in business since 1965. The quality of the food and the service is very good. The décor is old wood, dark - very dark. The bathrooms are small and awkward. The place needs a renovation. But if you can get past that, the food is worth the effort. I had an outstanding Prime Rib. The selections of sides and wines is small. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. It is a little pricey compared to other similar restaurants in the area."

  • "We had heard that Aberdeen barn was one of Charlottesville original steakhouses with a great reputation for steak. We were underwhelmed with our food, ribeye and crab cakes . Like the decor of the restaurant they seemed to be prepared with a 70's vibe. Most of the patrons dressed as if they had come straight from the ball park, where is the sense of proper dress? We would not recommend this place. I can say that the staff was very friendly."

  • "The only thing we ever eat at Aberdeen is the prime rib. We go there specifically for that dish! It is the BEST we have eaten anywhere and we have been out west many times, but nothing beats Aberdeen's prime rib. It was a special occasion and we do not eat there regularly because it is about 80 miles round trip to go there. But it is worth the prime rib. Their waiters have been there for YEARS and we often see the same waiters who served us 20 years ago! The interior is very dark and could use some updating, but the food is great."

  • "Went to the Aberdeen Barn to celebrate a birthday -- and, as usual, we were not disappointed. The service was fantastic, which is typical, and the food was very good (although the steaks were not cooked consistently -- both ordered medium, and one arrived medium-well, and the other was bordering on rare). In addition, the individual who played the piano (we were seated on the bar side of the restaurant) was very talented, and provided some very nice background music during our dinner."

  • "This is a special place for my wife and me. This year, after attending the Montpelier Wine Festival, we again visited Aberdeen Barn expecting a normal great dining experience. Unfortunately, the kitchen and the waiter was not up for an excellent experience, which is the norm. After our visit, I took the time to share the experience with management. Aberdeen Barn clearly values their customers. The management responded quickly to show how much value they place on their customers. I will go back for sure. It is unusual in this day and age to receive such an answer. Thank you Aberdeen Barn for a GREAT response!"

  • "Had reservations at 6:00 PM. We were immediately seated and, as usual, we were presented with delicious pretzels and cheese. We all had the famous Prime Rib. (Just a suggestion, but try the Prime Rib Seasoned and Seared) It was fantastic. We love this place. The steaks are always primo! "

But, we wouldn't think of going to Charlottesville without eating at the Aberdeen Barn. Wait staff long timers and very solicitous and courteous.   • "The Barn, as it is known by locals, is a Charlottesville/UVa staple. This is a place that I have been going to since I was first recruited to UVa and it remains very special. The servers (Jimmy) and staff make you feel like you have come home from a long stay away. Always welcoming and nothing is too much for them to make you, and your guests, feel at home. The food is fresh and the atmosphere is not rushed. Sit back and enjoy a meal at the Barn!"

  • "Can't praise the wait staff enough. The service we had was phenomenal. Our waiter (unfortunately I cannot recall his name) was humorous, personable, prompt and very friendly. Like us, he grew up on the good (west) side of the mountain and he used that to keep the experience personalized, polite and friendly. The food, on the other hand, is a completely different story. The steak (charbroiled filet mignon) was completely unseasoned, though cooked to order (medium rare). Steamed broccoli was undercooked. Portions were small, especially for the price ($40 or so for the steak and broccoli). I have had much better steak for much cheaper (used to live in West Texas), so was disappointed."

  • "We pulled into our hotel next door, tired and hungry. Thought we were going to order pizza but spotted the barn red building. Quick search pulled up favorable reviews for prime rib. Made a reservation through opentable as the parking lot looked full, and were seated 30 minutes later. We both ordered prime rib, the medium size and it was huge. Charles, our waiter suggested we order medium rare - it was perfect. Probably the best prime rib I've ever had. Salads were good, dressings homemade were really good. Wonderful experience, hope I get back to the area to go again. Dinner with drinks for two before tip $77. Excellent value, service and food."

  • "Our dinner for 8 was a birthday celebration for a family patriarch and he absolutely loved it! The staff was extremely attentive, the service was smooth, the food was very traditional, simple and straightforward, generous and delicious. Sometimes a perfectly prepared steak is the best birthday gift. The atmosphere seems to have remained unchanged for decades - it felt a bit like stepping back in time (in a very good way). In a town with so many modern food choices, it's nice to see that "old school" still thrives. We will choose Aberdeen Barn again for our next family special occasion."

  • "A very poor experience. I expected a nice quite dinning atmosphere and ended up with a bar room... Complete with a bar fight that spilled over into the dinning area. Management failed to respond appropriately to the situation walking away saying they were not going to get punched in the face. Though I am sure this is not a regular occurrence I was over all very unimpressed and could not in good faith recommend this restaurant to another."

  • "Had dinner for four and while salads, soup and mains were good for the most part, too many inconsistencies existed. Servers were pleasant, but largely unattentive. One of our party ordered salmon and received a large, but overcooked and under seasoned fillet. Another ordered steak medium rare and was served a tiny knot of beef that was so overdone there was no juice in it at all. This went back and was replaced with one cooked the way the first one should have been. The hits were the crab cakes and the lamb chops, both of which were properly prepared albeit a bit under seasoned. The big draw here appears to be the huge slabs of prime rib that they serve -- but if that isn't what you're hungry for, you may want to look elsewhere."
