Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service was excellent. The lighting is very, very low."

  • "The "Barn" continues to be a Charlottesville favorite after the many years of its existence. By continuing to offer superb beef dishes and good, friendly service, you have guaranteed yourself a place in the local restaurant scene. Thanks!"

  • "Expected a little more private and less closer table for our party of 2. Was placed in a busy traffic area. With the prices of the food and wine atmosphere and seating for 2 should have been more Selective.,"

  • "We were familiar with the Aberdeen Barn from business trips to Raleigh. Same quality of good food. With drinks, it can get pricey. But, we wouldn't think of going to Charlottesville without eating at the Aberdeen Barn. Wait staff long timers and very solicitous and courteous. Steak, prime rib, lobster, seem to be the favs. Cheese crock and breadsticks complimentary."

  • "Excellent food as always, prime rib seemed slightly smaller than before but delicious. Wish they had a better beer selection, maybe some beers on tap."

  • "Best prime rib I've ever eaten, and I try it every time I go to a new restaurant that offers it. Wait staff was attentive without being obnoxious. Overall, a fine dining experience."

  • "We were seated promptly. Service was quick but we never felt rushed. Food quality was excellent. The wait staff was extremely attentive. We could not have asked for a better experience."

  • "The Barn, as it is known by locals, is a Charlottesville/UVa staple. This is a place that I have been going to since I was first recruited to UVa and it remains very special. The servers (Jimmy) and staff make you feel like you have come home from a long stay away. Always welcoming and nothing is too much for them to make you, and your guests, feel at home. The food is fresh and the atmosphere is not rushed. Sit back and enjoy a meal at the Barn!"

  • "Whenever we travel through Charlottesville VA The Aberdeen Barn is always on our scheduled stop list. We have never been disappointed here. The Prime Rib is a definite must try. The thick cut is equal to at least two dinner portions. All in all one of our favorites."

  • "Can't praise the wait staff enough. The service we had was phenomenal. Our waiter (unfortunately I cannot recall his name) was humorous, personable, prompt and very friendly. Like us, he grew up on the good (west) side of the mountain and he used that to keep the experience personalized, polite and friendly. The food, on the other hand, is a completely different story. The steak (charbroiled filet mignon) was completely unseasoned, though cooked to order (medium rare). Steamed broccoli was undercooked. Portions were small, especially for the price ($40 or so for the steak and broccoli). I have had much better steak for much cheaper (used to live in West Texas), so was disappointed."

  • "This is a great place for celebrating special occasions. The steaks are wonderful as is the service."

  • "We pulled into our hotel next door, tired and hungry. Thought we were going to order pizza but spotted the barn red building. Quick search pulled up favorable reviews for prime rib. Made a reservation through opentable as the parking lot looked full, and were seated 30 minutes later. We both ordered prime rib, the medium size and it was huge. Charles, our waiter suggested we order medium rare - it was perfect. Probably the best prime rib I've ever had. Salads were good, dressings homemade were really good. Wonderful experience, hope I get back to the area to go again. Dinner with drinks for two before tip $77. Excellent value, service and food."

  • "Our dinner for 8 was a birthday celebration for a family patriarch and he absolutely loved it! The staff was extremely attentive, the service was smooth, the food was very traditional, simple and straightforward, generous and delicious. Sometimes a perfectly prepared steak is the best birthday gift. The atmosphere seems to have remained unchanged for decades - it felt a bit like stepping back in time (in a very good way). In a town with so many modern food choices, it's nice to see that "old school" still thrives. We will choose Aberdeen Barn again for our next family special occasion."

  • "The best Prime Rib I have ever had!! The fresh shaved horse radish was a real plus and unique."

  • "A very poor experience. I expected a nice quite dinning atmosphere and ended up with a bar room... Complete with a bar fight that spilled over into the dinning area. Management failed to respond appropriately to the situation walking away saying they were not going to get punched in the face. Though I am sure this is not a regular occurrence I was over all very unimpressed and could not in good faith recommend this restaurant to another."

  • "As always, The Barn provided a great piece of beef and all the trimmings. Spouse had the swordfish -- perfectly cooked -- and was well-pleased. Server, Jim, was spot-on, and all the staff was friendly and nice. We were there rather late, but service was as great as during prime time. Thanks!!!"

  • "Excellent choice for a nice night out with my girl friend. Highly recommend this establishment and their food. The steak, swordfish, and shrimp were exceptional. Service and promptness of the staff was fabulous. A get comfortable, yet upscale environment."

  • "Had dinner for four and while salads, soup and mains were good for the most part, too many inconsistencies existed. Servers were pleasant, but largely unattentive. One of our party ordered salmon and received a large, but overcooked and under seasoned fillet. Another ordered steak medium rare and was served a tiny knot of beef that was so overdone there was no juice in it at all. This went back and was replaced with one cooked the way the first one should have been. The hits were the crab cakes and the lamb chops, both of which were properly prepared albeit a bit under seasoned. The big draw here appears to be the huge slabs of prime rib that they serve -- but if that isn't what you're hungry for, you may want to look elsewhere."

  • "We started off with drinks at the bar. Bartender was friendly and drinks were great. We were sat and the waiter approached in a timely manner and we ordered two more drinks. Upon returning to table waiter seemed to be in a hurry for us to leave and wanted our food order than. We ordered an app and said we would order food when that was done. He came back before and wanted to know if we knew what we wanted. App comes and we decide to order food than. Gave order and also asked for some wine. Dinner came still no wine asked again for Wine. Food comes and we're very disappointed. ordered steak rare came med well. waiter took back brought new without saying anything. top it off it was not good. Spend your $200 else where. Outdated & overpriced"

  • "Great restaurant ... ranks up there with Ruth Chris & Webers.. fairly priced and a well seasoned staff (rare in a college town) that give white glove service with a personal touch. Highly recommended."

  • "We really enjoyed all of the food. We thought the shared entree with only an additonal $2 charge was a GREAT deal! And plenty of food for my husband and I for sure!! The only complaint that we have are that the restaurant was a little TOO dimly lit for us, we felt like we could hardly see our food:("

  • "When ever in Charlottesville or Williamsburg, we always do to the Barn, best prime rib there is to have, great atmosphere and always excellent service. One of our favorite places to dine and linger over an excellent meal and a great bottle of wine this time Game Keeper and eceptional red."

  • "Our dinner was for my birthday and it was the best food and service ever!!! The prices being high, would not makie it our most frequently visited but for sure on a special occasion!! I Love it!! My favorite steak is filet mignon and you have the best!!! Center cut is the only way to go for them and I could not have enjoyed it more. :-) We also purchased a crock of your cheese w/breadsticks to go. The baked potatoe was cooked perfect and very large. The salad was great too and the dressings were the best!! Thank you!!!!"

  • "As always, Aberdeen barn provided just what we wanted....a big hunk of beef, perfectly roasted, with all of the accoutrement. Appetizers were perfect, and we totally enjoyed ourselves and our waiter. Neighboring groups were escalating in teor noise, but that's normal for a Saturday night. One of our favorite go-to places."

  • "Steak, Lobster, Scallops - they know how to do these and the standard accompaniments perfectly. If you ever are in the mood for a good steak or a nice prime rib, this is the place to go. Dinner for 2 (one with a glass of wine), including dessert, was around $85 with tip."

  • "We were experimenting with a new restaurant so I made a few requests not on the menu and was quickly and quietly accommodated by a very strong staff comfortable with custom requests. Our prime ribs were prepared exactly as we requested and had an excellent aroma and taste. We are definitely keeping Aberdeen Barn on our list."

  • "Tried this place out during restaurant week. Our waitress has been working there for 25 years and the service from her was great. She was very attentive, stopping by our table several times to check on us. The food- hubby & I both ordered the lobster bisque as an appetizer. It wasn't anything close to any lobster bisque I've had and the portion was about 6 tablespoons. The prime rib with a baked potato as an entree. Overall the prime rib tasted OK, but it came out barely warm and about 3 bites in it was cold. I didn't say anything because I thought it was just me, but later my husband said his was the same way. Then the table next to us were saying theirs was cold as well. Won't be back, there are much better restaurants in C'ville"

  • "Cville is well known for its restaurants. Many come and go, but Aberdeen Barn is one of the few that has endured for decades. I finally got the chance to go for Restaurant Week, and I was not disappointed. Lobster bisque was rich and creamy, the prime rib was moist and flavorful, and dessert was a tasty, light end to it all. The atmosphere was both unique and warm- surprisingly not too crowded considering it was restaurant week. On my phone, so I'll cut it short. Two thumbs up!"

  • ""I love the prime rib and and I so enjoy coming to this place - it is a very warm, comfortable, and has a very friendly staff. I definitely would return. The entire meal was amazing. Again, the service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.""

  • "This restaurant has an old-fashioned feel to it. Inside it is all wood, and very traditional. The food is great, especially the prime rib. The service was exceptional (a main reason we will return to the restaurant). I appreciate that they had local wine on the list!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for a nice dinner for our anniversary. Our good was amazing, but I'm very glad we made reservations because it was very must. The only thing I didn't like is the choice of dressings for my salad. Other than that, everything was amazing!"

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we chose Aberdeen Barn. The service was great, the food was good but since we were celebrating our anniversay we were a little dissapointed that we were given a table in the bar area. We were both dressed very nice in celebrating our anniversary and would have rather sat in another part of the restaurant."
