Diner Reviews
  • "Downstairs in ABC Carpet. Delicious pizzas, kale salad, juices."

  • "This is our 2nd time dining here and again had a wonderful casual dining experience in an eclectic setting. We prefer ABC Cucina as the food there doesn't seem to try so hard but would never skip an opportunity to eat here."

  • "this used to be my favorite, but now... food is outstanding, as well as you can do in the city and the wine list is terrific - geeky stuff for those that love it, expensive stuff for DBs that don't know any better, and great values throughout. the staff - not at all warm. they go through the motions and smile, but its the most empty, inauthentic hospitality. the place is a machine, they are more excited to tell you how long the wait is or show off their knowledge of the specials than they are to warmly welcome you. its great to work as hard as I do but then be condescended to by hosts, bus boys and waitstaff. place is, at best, cold and pretentious, despite the flannel shirts. Food is still outstanding."

  • "ABC Kitchen was a wonderful brunch experience -- delicious and inventive food, casual and interesting ambience, and attentive and informed service. It quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in the City."

  • "Brunch was more than memorable- the food was so well prepared, service was wonderful. Only 1 mishap the kitchen ran out of one of the main brunch items Scrambled Eggs with Oysters and Hot Butter Sauce, so one in our party had to order something else, otherwise it would have been a 5 Star Rating. We were seated at 1:00 pm so it seemed a bit early to be running out of items. The server commented it happens a lot. Suggest changing the quantity of oysters cooked to prepare for what seems to be a popular dish. Other than that can't wait to return."

  • "The other Jean Georges restaurants I've been to have been stuffy. ABC Kitchen is charming, pretty, and very pleasant. The food is superb, and very fresh. The waitstaff is easy going and eager to please. I recommend it highly. We haven't had dinner there yet, so I can't speak to that, but for brunch/lunch it's a wonderful choice."

  • "I have been wanting to go here for months, I finally went last week and it didnt disappoint! The ambiance was great, great service and OUTSTANDING food. The Ricotta with strawberry... I could have licked the plate. Highly recommended and will be back."

  • "We've dined here before with plenty of success but our last experience was below average. Service was rushed and relatively unfriendly while the food lacked its usual zeal. Perhaps, because we had a 530pm date night, the service quality dips earlier in the evening and the goal of management is to turn tables to higher yielding patrons."

  • "We loved it freshness way of cooking decoration staff very heplful and delicius cocktails"

  • "Great service, interior reminds you of a French provincial farm house, food was delicious. A must try is their Bloody Mary!"

  • "I've been to ABC Kitchen twice now when I visited New York (from Virginia) and I don't think I'll be able to go back to NYC without making another trip. The food was outstanding. It is 'fine dining' in a very understated way (as far as the decor is concerned. We sampled many of the appetizers and then shared a pizza…All were delicious."

  • "So we waited 3 months to get a reservation so I probably had high expectations. Upon arrival we were seated quickly. The plate ware of the table was chipped and bit worn (very surprised!). We then waited over 20 minutes to order our first cocktail. The service seemed confused, there was plenty of staff but no clear "owner" of our table. 10 minutes later we were enjoying the cocktails (very nice). We had a further wait to order our food (by this point I had finished my first cocktail!) but once ordered the service was well paced. The food itself was good but again not amazing. In fact if I eat out at independent restaurants in Brooklyn who specialize in farm to table it was only "just" on par. Not worth the wait."

  • "Very fun nice place. Great lunch spot if you can get in. I do hate the policy of having full parties before you get seated. I understand why, but it's not a hospitality/guest oriented focus - it's a business focus."

  • "When we first arrived, we were a bit late and the hostess was very gracious and sat us immediately. The waiter came over and took our drink orders which was sparkling water and a Pepsi. He brought us wine and Diet Coke. When we questioned him, he said it definitely was regular coke but he would swap it out anyways. He took our appetizer order and then disappeared. We couldn't find him to order the main meals until we just gave up and finally asked someone else who worked there for the check. The staff brought us appetizers which were good. I am not one to complain and we have visited ABC Cocina and absolutely loved it. ABC Kitchen was a horrible experience though. Something I would expect from a much lesser restaurant."

  • "This place is getting harder to get reservations, and a few of my friends have raved about it, so I had high expectations. Overall, the food was good but nothing outstanding (so I don't quite get the hype). Price is reasonable, and the ambiance/decor is nice. I am sure ingredients are fresh and local, but maybe I was spoiled by the fresh vegetables I tasted in Provence...that was heavenly."

  • "ABC Kitchen has been on my dinner 'to-do' list for a very, very, long time. I finally got the chance to go, but I could only get a late seating, it was so worth it. The scallop, pork confit and ricotta cavatelli were out of this world. My servers were attentive, but gave us enough space at the same time. Overall, one of the best dinners I've had in a long time. I will be coming back soon!"

  • "Recommended to us by friends and family. It lived up to all of the hype. We arrived 45 minutes early for our reservation but were seated promptly. A wonderful lunch."

  • "Abc kitchen was hard to get a reservation for... And I can see why. The food was exceptional, fresh, flavorful, not overdone. The only downside- and it wasn't enough to ruin the night at all- was the less than attentive staff. The waiter at the bar was great and I thought 'wow, this is going to be something!' But then the waitstaff who took care of us during our meal... They just seemed bored. I don't expect them to juggle or anything but at least look like you give a darn...."

  • "The most beautiful place , yet you can wear jeans. I wouldn't recommend wearing shorts though. Food amazing. Service very good. The only thing is they never offered to get me another I've tea when mine was finished, but that's not really a big deal. I love this place. I will go back! Oh yeah and it's not a tourist trap!"

  • "ABC Kitchen has amazingly good food. Yes, we know, Dan Kluger continues to make brilliant food, that isn't a surprise. ABC Kitchen also tends to have an upscale clientele. Which sometimes leads to an atmosphere of haute couture, a certain feeling of rarefied air, a whiff of unreachable heights. It would be very easy for a restaurant to let it's self and it's staff devolve into the sort of narcissistic circle-jerking that so many higher end restaurants fell into during the 90's. But the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff has always been a wonderful salve to the hustle of the city - and it's actually gotten BETTER. The last two times I've eaten here, the staff is NICER. Which only makes me want to come here more. Bravo ABC Kitchen."

  • "Always a pleasure to dine at ABC. As we travel to NYC, this is our favorite for lunch with friends. The friendly and professional staff takes care of all needs without a request. The food remains a delightful treat. Time melts away providing a memorable experience on each visit."

  • "this resto was highly suggested by our hotel concierge and I am SO thankful for it. the food was amazing and the venue itself was fantastic. i guess i shouldn't be surprised since it is ABC home."

  • "Excellent food with a great selection. Everything is fresh and flavorful. The ambiance and the decor are lovely. Great shopping in the ABC store attached to the restaurant."

  • "Went for lunch. One had the fixed price; the other (me!) a la carte. All food of the highest standard. Service also excellent. From the outside, this place really looks non descript. But inside . Wow! My only complaint would be about the coffee. Way too hot and not a very good double espresso. Other than that, great experience."

  • "I live in Chicago and enjoy the new and trendy spots, but often get away with not completely breaking the bank (especially if I cut out alcohol). In New York, where I spent a lot of time growing up and shortly after college, I always find myself paying an arm and a leg for great meals. ABC Kitchen was adorable and the food was perfect, all at a very reasonable price, especially for NYC."

  • "More a see and be seen scene than food spot. Food good but not great, only memorable thing was my wife's soup served so hot it burned her tongue. Convenient to Union Square and area, and pleasant enough."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The ambience, design and menu+cocktail list are all great - unique, energetic, stylish and modern. Service was fine, although not very personal on this occasion, but has previously been great. My only complaint would be that I went here 2 months ago and the menu seemed the same, some mixing it up would have allowed for a greater choice in dishes. Were enough gluten-free options for my partner."

  • "Three trips here now between ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina. The food, service, ambiance and value are among the very best in New York City. End of story, this crew has no equal....get in as often as you can."

  • "Light refreshing atmosphere that reflects perfectly the delicious food. Lots of choices. Menu changes often to take advantage of the season. Snap pea salad, crab toast, kale salad, beets, fish with spinach and jalapeño are our favorites so far. Service was outstanding."

  • "I went with two different girlfriends, once was July 4th after fireworks no reservations we sat at the bar and shared 3 small plates and wine, then dessert! Their sundae is amazing still thinking about it! Second visit service was truly lacking started out ok but after our server informed us he was stepping away said someone was going to take care of us.... No one came had to flag someone down to find out who was taking care of out table they seemed annoyed! But again dessert!! Yummy! Service, eh not so much!"
