Diner Reviews
  • "I found the restaurant very average with nothing special to note. Certainly not bad just kind of run of the mill. I wouldn't avoid it but I won't hurry back."

  • "This was a great option for dinner before a show. Our waiter was quite attentive and enthusiastic. The food was very good. Try the meat and cheese plate. We were too full to try the donuts. Next time we will need to."

  • "We have eaten here twice once for brunch and once for pre-theater dinner. No disappointments either time. The service outstanding and the donuts! You must have the donuts."

  • "Made a reservation for dinner before the Neil Finn show at the Schubert Theatre, located just next door. We were given a choice to sit at a high top or standard table and chose the high top. Ordered drinks, then settled on the Mahi tuna appetizer (4 pcs) and a Bianca pizza, which was plenty for two. Both selections were excellent. The restaurant has a modern casual décor and ambience. Abbey Lane also offers a discount for day of the show diners. Excellent choice for any occasion!"

  • "I went recently to Abby Lane across the street from the Wang Theater. We loved everything about it...from the service to the drinks to the food we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would go back again for sure."

  • "The only thing better than the location of Abby Lane (across from the Wang Center) was the food (and drinks)! We had a party of four and each one of us was impressed by every course of our meal. Fresh, unique and delicious!"

  • "Disappointed. Had picked the restaurant because of its Brunch menu on Sundays (saw on the Web). Was informed when we arrived that they were not doing Brunch because of some event at the Wang center across the street and they didn't want the menu too complicated for the kitchen. Restaurant was not very busy. If you're going to say you do Brunch, do it, otherwise don't offer it on your website."

  • "Perfect place to eat before or after show, good food , small, nice atmosphere , reasonable prices, and totally convenient place to eat in the theatre district"

  • "This is a great addition to Boston's theater district. Many restaurants aren't open for lunch in the theater district. This owner understood how enjoyable it is for a nice lunch before a show matinee. Thank you for opening daily at 11:30 a.m.!"

  • "Service was very slow. We sat for 15 minutes before we were offered a drink even though we told the waitress we had tickets to a show. It took another 15 minutes to place our meal order. We got to our show seats as the lights were dimming. We allowed 1 1/2 hours for dinner. It was not enough time."

  • "Service was poor and unprofessional. There were 3 of us at the table and only 2 of us were asked for beverage/wine order (all visibly over 21). Slow and too noisy a venue to enjoy conversation and food"

  • "We wanted a restaurant near the Wang Theater---it was great. We sat upstairs, next to a window, so we enjoyed the late afternoon light. We enjoyed dinner--I had seafood; my husband had steak. Both were excellent. We drove to Boston from The Cape, and we had to return home after the performance, so this was perfect!"

  • "We arrived at Abby Lane around 5:30 and there were only a few tables filled. We were seated upstairs in a deuce by the windows. Server was great. food was good... we were wondering if it was going to get busier. By 6:30 the place was packed with a mix of after work and pre theater crowd. the re-arrangeable seats in the middle of the room allowed a large group of co-workers to all sit together. A really fun atmosphere--- got in & out in plenty of time for the show."

  • "Made reservations to have brunch before a 1:00 show at the Wang. They open at 11:30 so the timing was perfect. We were sitted right away when we arrived at a table by the window, that was nice. This is obviously a perfect spot to go to before a show at the Wang since it is right across the street. I would say most of the customers there were going to the show. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The food was very good, served hot and everything was very fresh. We ordered the donuts appetizers and had the scrambled egg and omelet brunch meals....all very very good. The noise level I found to be kind of high but not sure what could be done to improve that. I would certainly recommend Abbey Lane."

  • "On Saturday I reserved a table for Sunday Brunch - the menu looked great! We arrived at 11:30, and were given the lunch menu. When I requested the Brunch menu, I was told that they were not serving brunch that day because there was a show that afternoon (which is why we were there!) , and it was "too complicated" for the staff. No mention of that when I booked the day before. The lunch menu, food and service were fine - nothing special. However, the decor is wonderful."

  • "Everything was outstanding. The food was wonderful. I only had a hamburger, but it was the best hamburger I've ever eaten. Even the coffee was great. Usually, restaurant coffee is awful, but the coffee here was better than anything I've had at Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. The French Fries were great. Even the pickles were wonderful. The barbecued potato chips were exceptional. I just loved the place. I look forward to returning very soon."

  • "The menu looked great. The food was disappointing. I'm a polenta lover, but the polenta here had no taste. One portion of it had a mound of cold soft cheese like a thick sour cream. It, too, had no taste. My friend's baby kale Caesar salad came with white gloppy dressing. The Kobe sliders were the first time I've had Kobe beef served well done. Grilled avocado with quinoa was bland. The sparkling rose wine I ordered -- a personal favorite -- was undrinkable because it was as sweet as soda. Our waitress was very friendly but knew nothing about the food she was serving. When the dishes were cleared. neither she nor the other servers cleaned off the table before serving coffee and dessert. Overall, this is not a serious restaurant."

  • "This restaurant is in a great location. I had brunch, a spinach feta cheese omelet with a potato pancake and sliced cherry tomatoes. The least pleasant part of the experience was the waiter. He had a rude, impatient tone and did not check back, so it took several minutes before I could flag down another waitress to get salt and pepper. I also had to wait to get the ck. The food was very good, although the menu said the omelet came with a tomato salad and it was instead a garnish of several sliced cherry tomatoes. That's fine but the menu should say what it is. So overall the kitchen's doing fine but there needs to be better management of communication and service to customers."

  • "The lunch menu is decent and the midday vibe is good, but they had ONE WAITER for the whole lunch service!! Took about 15 minutes for him to circle back to us to take our order and this was after we politely signaled him twice. The poor guy just scurried around the room and did the best he could but that was totally unfair."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The food was great. Service needs to be firmed up. My coffee was cold and my Bloody Mary incomplete (missing oyster.) both drinks were corrected once I said something but these errors could have been easily avoided with a little attention to detail."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We decided to go to Abbey Lane because we had a show at the Wilbur at 7:30. We had reservations at 6:30pm and were seated right on time. However it took 15 minutes for something to take our drink orders, then another 10 for them to bring them out. We were sure to order our food right when the drinks came as we didn't have much time left. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the tacos were very good, even without a lot of meat. The side of grilled avocado with quinoa was a little flavorless and then shrimp appetizer was ok. If the service would improve, then I would consider going back...but not worth the wait for what you get and the prices you pay."

  • "We dined here after a 2:00 theater show and we were seated right away, even though we were 1/2 hour early for our reservation. Our waiter took our drink orders immediately and told us about the specials. Our drinks arrived quickly,as well as a complimentary bowl of tasty chips and dip. We ordered the Tremont burger, Bacon burger, and the chicken sandwich. Everyone was very happy with the meal, and although the fries were good, they were nothing special. The pickles on the side were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing and very attractive. The head chef was visible in the kitchen and even stopped to take a photo with a fan. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. We look forward to visiting again soon."

  • "Busy little restaurant, lots of chat amongst diners. Lively atmosphere. Everyone having a good time. Limited menu but what they do, they do well. Very enjoyable. I will certainly go again."

  • "The food was great, the atmosphere was great, our server was delightful. We had the pork taco appetizer -- tasty little bite! Also, we had the cheese plate - very nice, although nothing special. All of our dinners were great -- but my husband had the Chinese spare ribs and we all agreed that he won the prize for the best selection. I had serious food envy!"

  • "Great location -Too bad the food doesn't match! For dinner we ordered- The Tremont Cheeseburger with Bacon added and Spit-Roasted Lemon Soaked-Half Chicken. The burger was an average bar burger, Nothing special or unique about it. Its a $13 burger that I can get for $8-10 at most pubs anywhere in Boston. The Spit-Roasted Lemon Soaked-Half Chicken was a HUGE disappointment. It had the taste of a day or two old leftover half-chicken that was reheated and did not have even a hint of lemon! This was supposed to be Spit-Roasted Lemon Soaked-Half Chicken and there was no lemon flavor, no lemon juice and not even a lemon on the plate. I ordered a replacement meal that was average. No manager visited the table to apologize!"

  • "We had a great time at Abbey Lane the other night. It was nice overlooking the excitement of the Theatre District, with the comfort of delicious and affordable food. I loved the open kitchen and vibe. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone for a pre-show dinner, or just drinks after work."

  • "Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in this restaurant. Thought it would be the kind of overpriced, lackluster fare generally found in touristy neighborhoods (theater districts, etc.). We made a reservation, had a table waiting (right in front of the open kitchen), and were quickly served. Relatively small menu, but enough brunch choices for everyone. All dishes tasted fresh and delicious. My teenager had the Kobe sliders, two had the croissant Nutella french toast, someone else had the donuts and bacon, and I had the breakfast pizza with salmon and artichokes. Potato pancakes were sublime, and cocktails were great too. Happy with the coffee brew here, and how nicely it was served. Would go again before or after a show."

  • "The 30 dollar steak I ordered medium rare came out well done. The mashed potatoes felt instant and no seasoning. The asparagus were tender and others weren't. I mentioned this to the Waiter and it took 15 mins for another plate. My girlfriend says she loved hers but I think she was being nice. Way overpriced for the quality. The waiter came back with the second plate and "hoped it would be better that time". It was but surprisingly no one came out to apologize."

  • "This was a second or third time to Abby Lane, which is a great spot for before or after a show. This time, was a quick bite before. They do upscale comfort food, and we've found the food always to be consistently above average (this isn't knock-your-socks off food, but it is very good for the price you pay). The service has always been friendly and fast."

  • "Very generic restaurant, nothing at all special. Food was okay. Hostesses were very distracted and didn't record our Open Table reservation. It wasn't all that busy but everyone seemed harried. Our server was very pleasant, however."

  • "We have been to Abby Lane several times and it never disapoints. The food choice is eclectic and they have an entree for every appetite. It is a great pre-theatre place and there is also theater in Abby Lane with the open kitchen. The food is awesome, the prices are reasonable and the experience was top notch."

  • "Food and environment were both excellent. Portions were not huge but acceptable. Service in the one instant I went was poor as there were long waiting periods and was never asked if I wanted a refill on our drinks until we were getting ready to leave but this may have been that particular waitress and not a reflection on the restaurant as a whole."

  • "The four of us started with cocktails that were very creative and pleasing to all senses. We all got appetizers and everyone was very pleased with their selection. I was especially pleased with my Seared Rare Ahi Tuna and so was my friend with whom I swapped a piece for one of his delectable oysters. I decided to get the special for the night which was a veal chop. It was done to perfection and ever so tender, as were the baby brussel sprout served with it. Again all four of us could not have been happier with our selections. We could have all stopped there being completely satisfied, but given our experience thus far, we had to try desert. We were not disappointed. The wait staff was wonderfully pleasant and helpful. Now on with the show."

  • "My Wife and I had a great first time experience at the Restaurant and look forward to many more visits. Staff was Friendly and went out of their way to serve and make you comfortable. Food was very good and the atmosphere was wonderful. What better way to spend an early Friday night before taking in a show."

  • "Had a great dinner after a show next door. Complimentary chips and dip were fantastic! The Kobe sliders and Root Beet wings were great appetizers. Pizza and salads were also fantastic. Save room for the great desserts including the doughnuts! Mario was a great server too! Would be great to see a larger craft beer selection. We will be back! ;-)"
