AbboccatoFood, service, atmosphere,Food, service, atmosphere, everything was GREAT! We went one night for dinner then returned a few nights later for dessert. The manager remembered us and sat us immediately. The fish, cheese plate and pistachio sundae were all to-die-for!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLamb Chop was delicious withLamb Chop was delicious with a good flavor that didn't overpower the underlying taste of the meat. We had two different pasta dishes and they were both perfectly cooked with a good light wine sauce and a flavorful meat sauce.
The bruschetta wasn't anything special and one of the three had a particularly bad texture. The cheese plate and fritti were both quite good.
The wine recommendation was great. We gave a price range and preferred type of wine and the manager didn't try to stretch our budget. The result was great wine and we ordered an extra bottle.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat service, great food, great service, great food, great ambiance!!!!
the manager was extremely knowable!!!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived a half hour lateWe arrived a half hour late to Abboccato due to a subway problem and the Maitre D greeted us warmly and escorted us to our table where we were meeting two relatives. I had requested a "quiet" table" and our request had been adhered to. The staff was informed and the pace of the dinner was perfect. Noone interupted us to ask "Is everything allright"? (a pet peeve of mine). My husband had the veal and I had the salmon and we shared the leaf spinich - both were delicious. Our quests were staying at the Hilton a block away and were so pleased to find a really good restaurant so near to their hotel.
And if you are going to Town Hall - this is the perfect place. Not too expensive and delicious food and a friendly staff.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMhas it allGreat food, lovely space, and thoughtful, professional service! Moderately priced for NYC.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and ServiceAbboccato is among our favorite restaurants. The food is excellent with interesting specials. The service is exceptional. Very professional and attentive. From the warm welcome as you enter the restaurant from the Host to the focused Waitstaff, you know you are in good hands for a terrific meal that will be delicious and relaxed. We love the pasta dishes and the fish. Meat eaters too will find tasty veal, steak and Italian salumeria. Overall, Abboccato is excellent !!!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but priceyAll four of us were very happy with all food choices- but everything was just a little too expensive to make us enthusiastic about returning soon.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeOur favorite spot for a date night or when we have guests in from out of town. Great food at an affordable price, friendly staff, and terrific ambience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebratory LunchI went there for a celebratory lunch with a large group. The service was excellent. We all had the prix fixe lunch which was a substantial meal for a very reasonable price. The food and wine were all very good. This is my second time at Abbocacto, and it never disappoints. Their fish entrees are particularly good.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAbboccato was excellent. The restaurant itself was very nice looking.Service was excellent and the food very good to excellent.I highly recommend it5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways amazing!I've been going for several years now and this place always comes through. The food is all homemade, fresh and delicious. The menu has something for everyone. Ad the wait staff is always accommodating and courteous! You won't be disappointed by this amazing place!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA great celebrationOur daughter recently graduated from the Pratt Institute and we chose to have our celebration dinner at Abboccato. The ambience, food and service were extraordinary. The Italian cuisine was tasty and truly had that "home made" flavor. The desserts were equally excellent and best of all the fare was reasonably priced. We would highly recommend Abboccato for any event.
Ed from Wilmington DE5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMItalian restaurant with veryItalian restaurant with very good food in the Blakely Hotel, across the street from City Center and convenient to Carnegie Hall. Prices are a bit high, but the $38 prix fixe is a good deal.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Mother's Day CelebrationThis restaurant is a gem across the street from New York City Center. The food is fabulous, the waiters' suggestion for wine in our price range was smooth and delicious, and the desserts were excellent. Can't wait to go back again & again!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAbove and Beyond! Our reservation was for 6 PM and our taxi was caught in traffic. I called Abbocato and explained the situation while emphasizing that I had tickets for 7 PM at "Encores" across the street. I was assured by the young lady that the restaurant would insure that we arrived in time. Upon entering the restaurant, we were taken to our preferred seats and the waiter, who had been notified of our problem, recommended specific dishes that we coud enjoy and still be on time for the opening curtain. We ate, indeed enjoyed the food and were seated just before seven pm for a lovely show.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI eat at Abboccato with myI eat at Abboccato with my elderly mother several times a year and they are always very accommodating. They seat us in the front, and both the food and the service is always very good. It is a restaurant we rely upon and choose every time we are in the area.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAbboccato staff has alwaysAbboccato staff has always been extrmely accomodating. This week, our table was graciously changed after we'd requested special
seating. This makes going to the City Center an extra=special treat. And the food is really good!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPre-theater just rightWe were five people going to City Center and all enjoyed our dinners. Butternut squash soup, although sweeter than the usual, was top-notch. Service was attentive, but they did not remind us about time, and it was a very good thing the theater was just across the street.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOriginally for 100 stepsOur BFF had heart surgery five months ago. We picked Abboccato because it was 100 steps to get to the theater for our Encore series. We were pleasantly surprised once we got there. The food is very good and the restaurant is comfortable. Since I made the reservation, and based it upon convenience, I asked my friends their opinions. They said that they would like to eat there again on future outings although our friend will be able to walk more than the 100 steps. Our original premise was to make the trip easy for a handicapped friend and we found a good place to eat.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious ItalianThis was our first time at Abboccato and we went primarily because it is just opposite the City Center. But we were pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the food. A lovely shared first course was a platter of toasted pita with three types of spreads, ricotta, eggplant and a hummus. Tuna was delicious with unusual accompaniments, and grilled salmon and grouper were also enjoyed. Apple strudel Italian style was a lovely dessert, as was green apple sorbet and a pistachio sundae in an edible chocolate cup. The only drawback was the noisy collection at the bar in the front.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSleeper on W. 55thThe food was great, though prior reviews were not stellar. We found the wait staff a little off their game, but they were friendly. The grilled octopus was fabulous, as were the meatballs and beet salad. Pastas were homemade and fresh, and excellent presentations of each sort (we had the parpardelle and cannollini); the veal saltambocca was a bit soggy (by the time I tried it) but very tasty. I definitely recommend this sleepy restaurant very highly (great prices for the offering) and great progeny (by the owners of Milos and Oceana). Go there! Ciao!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCity center gemGoing to City Center? This is the Place! Wonderful prix fixe lunch and dinner .5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA True Great Find! Our second time for dinner at Abboccato. We found this gem of an authentic Italian Trattoria by accident as we were walking down the street, went in, enjoyed dinner and went back for the second time. Food is truly excellent, very nicely appointed restaurant.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant!! All ofGreat restaurant!! All of the food was deliscious. Cozy atmosphere. Great for good conversation.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent serviceWe could sit in comfortable leather chair and could relax and talk without loud noise. Service was excellent.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMust Eat HereHad a fantastic lunch before matinee show. I am full-blooded italian from South Philadelphia and the food was authentic, the sauce was the best and the ravioli, what can I say...I thought my grandmother was in the kitchen. And I am just getting started...I HIGHLY recommend this eatery. If you are looking for premiuim italian food, this is the place.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA Pleasant SurpriseWe went to this restaurant and we were going to City Center for matinee and it's right across the street. The place is lovely with a bar area on the left as you enter. My friends were delayed and the staff was most solicitous while I waited. We ordered lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and presentation. Two of us had chicken salad - not like one I've ever had before - very creative ingredients and the chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. The other guest had salmon tartar something and she said it got better and better with each bite! I highly recommend the restaurant and I would definitely return when in the area - for theatre or just a delicious meal!!!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience and food!I brought some clients to dinner here because it was near by the office and seemed to have a nice menu. The reviews were spot on- we had a great experience and great food. Grilled octopus was delicious and all our pasta main courses were superb. I definitely would recommend to friends and coworkers to check it out.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my brother to AbboccatoI took my brother to Abboccato for his birthday. It was his first time but not mine. Thes service was excellent as well as the food . We both had the Red sauce menu . The menu came with free coffee and free sambucca . We had a great time.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful spotAlways wanted to try this restaurant - was not disappointed. Lunch was wonderful! Food delicious, server was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere very warm and comfortable. Would not hesitate to return to try more dishes. Highly recommended.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful! What a pleasant surprise. We loved our dinner. We shared the arancini, the beet salad with orange and pistachios and a grilled octopus. All 3 items with sublime. For entrees we had the spaghetti Amatriciana and the free range chicken with sweet peppers and olives. Both were exceptional. For dessert we shared the pistachio sundae. Service was attentive and our waitress was very sweet. We can't wait to go back!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA great discovery. It was my first visit to Abboccato prompted by its being a sister restaurant to Molyvos, which is a long time favorite. We were not disappointed; the excellent food-an interesting 'Prix Fix', seating and service set the stage for a great evening at City Center's 'La Perichole'. Make sure you order Grandmother's meatballs for an appetizer!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice. Menu was greatVery nice. Menu was great and the food was excellent. Great service and very accommodating upon request for change in table.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a nice find in an otherwiseWhat a nice find in an otherwise "off" street. I was looking for a place for dinner before a show and this was nice because it was close to the theater and it was excellent food with a nice calm environment on a Saturday night. I didnt feel rushed and the waiter asked if we were theater bound so he managed our time well. The portions were a nice size and although I should not have eaten it all it was too good to leave on the plate! The surprise after dinner dessert wine was a pleasnat end to the visit.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMa clear favoriteAttractive, comfortable and quiet with a great location. Two pecial combinations and a fixed price option were clearly explained by the waitress and reasonably priced. My no salt requirement was taken seriously, not always the case. The wine list is excellent, with a top-notch regional selection of Italian reds and whites. But the beer selection is too limited, with no good brown e.g. The dressing and robust and perfectly grilled scallop made up for the skimpy argula in my salad appetizer and the three ciabatta offering and octopus were truly outstanding. Among the entres, the pastas were the best and the meat sauces and raviollis were delicately spiced and satisying. All my guests insisted on a return visit and a broader sample.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was great food wasService was great
food was good very inventive cuisine
1 person didn't like the dessert
prices were very high4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNestled in the basement isNestled in the basement is a real gem for Italian dining in NYC. We were in town for a show and were staying at the London Hotel, about 1 block away. We wanted good authentic Italian food as we went to Italy last summer and really enjoyed it. We got a bottle of Italian Cabernet, great appetizer of brunette and meatballs, great bread with lovely olive oil for dipping. Pasta with beets and very nice lamb followed, topped it off with cappuccino and some gelato.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMHow Sweet is is !!!!!My wife and I went for dinner before a show, our first time at Abboccato. After several trips to Italy we found a restruant as close as you can get in Abboccato. Not the most extensive menue but you still find yourself taking too much time trying to decide on your dinner selections because you want one of everything. The staff is WONDERFUL and we were treated as "regulars." A little pricie but New York is New York and it's worth every penny. Abboccato, meaning "a touch of sweetness" in Italian is appropriately named, HOW SWEET IS IS !4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Italian place in the mid-50s.First with a friend over drinks and appetizer, then by ourselves in a dinner for two, Abboccato delivered again! This is a favorite
spot of ours in midtown, near all the theaters (they'll make sure you make the show) and serving high quality, delicious food at
reasonable rates. We hadbruschetta to start and a fine choice of wines by the glass. (Their happy
hour is 3-5). When our friend left and we were seated at dinner, we couldn't help but notice the fine, unobtrusive service. Our appetizer, shared, was grilled asparagus - the freshest and most flavorful. Or main course was We went on to "fussily alla napoletana," or squid with fusilli and tomato, garlic and basil. Delicious gelato followed and we particularly recommend the vanill4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI was dining alone and enjoyedI was dining alone and enjoyed the location where I was seated. Veal Saltimbocco, delicious.
Service, attentive.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNorthern Italian- Midtown bestWe had a delicious meal at Abbocatto- a salad of spring greens, entree which was a Friday special of grilled salmon served on a bed seeded slices of cucmber with a yogurt sauce- the salmon had a perfect charred grid pattern, but was firm and broke into tender flakes. My husband had a pasta with meat sauce- his favorite thing to order, and he declared his to be the best. The waitress poured olive oil for dipping the Italian bread. We shared a bottle of wine, then had an exquisite panna cotta with raspberry sauce- he had a small scoop of gelato. To our surprise the server brought each of us a glass of a mildly sweet dessert wine. The service was seamless and non-intrusive to the meal4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing to City Center?
