Owned by The Livanos Family, Abboccato will provide a taste and experience similar to that of authentic restaurants in Italy. Anyone looking for that unique Italian flavor will find themselves at home when dining at Abboccato.

The 75-seat restaurant serves true and time-honored Italian recipes elevated through the talent and techniques of executive chef David Arias, and features a multitude of Italian products and ingredients.

Abboccato offers a selection of Chiccetti, small plates for sharing, which encourage a lively dining experience. Plentiful pasta fill out the Primi Piatti options and fresh Artic Char, Lamb Chops, Whole Branzino and even Veal Sweetbreads make up the savory Secondi Piatti list.

In addition to the savory Italian cuisine, Abboccato’s dessert menu allows diners to end their meal as elegantly as they started it.

Diner Reviews
  • "I usually like this restaurant but I was a little bit embarassed taking a client there recently. We Ordered the Trout which was recommended by the server, but it actually was Salmon, which is a very different fish. The service was a bit off."

  • "For the second year in a row, I took my friend to a pre-theater dinner at Abboccato. The food was delicious, the ambience lovely, and the service solicitous. We always have a great deal to talk about and we never feel rushed. On this occasion, my wine glass was removed from the table before we had finished the bottle. But this minor mishap was more than made up for by the complimentary after dinner drinks we were served as consolation."

  • "As always, the food was delicious and the fixed price lunch reasonable. Directly across the street from City Center so a perfect place to have a pre-theatre lunch. It was however somewhat noisy."

  • "Service was "NOT" good. Waited quite some time from the moment of being seated for water glass to be filled and for a drink order. Food was good, but on the smaller side for an entree portion. Service needs major improvements."

  • "This is an attractive Italian restaurant right across the street from City Center with wonderful ambience and superb, friendly service. The meatballs appetizer was absolutely scrumptious. The pasta with bolognese sauce was very tastey, if a bit too [very] salty for my taste. Excellent strudel capped off the meal. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're on a low-sodium diet, but it's otherwise quite good. As for cocktails, avoid the pera infusa [pear vodka and pear puree] -- once was enough."

  • "We really enjoyed the food - but only had 5 minutes to eat ... The restaurant was busy but they could not get our meals out intime for us to finish three courses and make theater-- a shame"

  • "Dined at Abbocato the other night. Once again impressed by the quiet ambiance, excellent service and flavorful cuisine. The $38 pp price fix is excellent. Try it and I think you will return!"

  • "The service was great and the meal was served promptly which had not always been my previous experience at this restaurant. Congratulations on the improved service level. The food is always excellent. Enjoyed the meatballs and the chicken special. Good cocktails and nice looking dining room and bar."

  • "Had a wonderful meal before a show at Carnegie Hall, also well situated for City Center. Food was fantastic! Grilled octopus and tuna tartare appetizers, a mahi-mahi special over citrus & fennel salad, and scrumptuous desserts. Would highly recommend."

  • "We often eat at this restaurant when we attend functions at City Center. We find the food excellent. Service is great. They are very careful to get us out in time for the curtain."

  • "A little rushed. However, the food is excellent, and the service attentive."

  • "Food excellent. Tables well spaced. Staff helpful. On the noisy side."

  • "While a very loud group made conversation difficult, the food and service compensated. The arancini were so very special as we're the bruschetta, chicken with roasted peppers and the skate."

  • "This excellent Italian deserves raves for the excellent food, thoughtful and well-priced prix fixe meals as well as the many choices for large and small appetites. The chicken is superb as is the pasta and desserts are not to be missed. The service is friendly and attentive and they ask about theater plans to make sure to get you out in time for your curtain."

  • "I've been to this restaurant several times before theater and have never been disappointed. Servers are attentive but do not hover. The food is not trendy -- just well made and exceedingly tasty. The fish and the pastas stand out. The tiramisu made on premises is outstanding. A really nice touch was when the server brought over two complimentary glasses of after-dinner liqueur."

  • "Good food, excellent service and nice atmosphere for a visit with a friend. Cross the street and be in your City Center seat in 5 minutes. We will be back"

  • "Great Italian food and good service before a Broadway show. Osso Bucco and Nona's Meatballs delicious. Waitress was friendly. Busboys a little too quick to clear dishes after a course. Would definitely return."

  • "We love the restaurant and it has not disappointed through the years. Good job!"

  • "We are a member at city center which is steps away from the restaurant and we always eat at Abboccato before going to the show . Everything was wonderful. We realized they have a new menu and a lot of new items"

  • "I was honestly quite surprised at how good the food was. It's a restaurant you could walk right by...fairly nondescript from outside. I'd read some good reviews and needed that neighborhood and wanted a fair priced restaurant. The food quality and prices were excellent and there were 4 of us so we tasted quite a few things. Even dessert was delicious."

  • "We had a delicious dinner on a Friday night. I would go back just for the burrata salad. I spent the weekend telling my friends about it. Service was excellent. We stayed a while, but we could have been in and out in a hour if we'd preferred that. Highly recommended."

  • "Had an early Sunday dinner before a concert at Carnegie Hall and was pleasantly surprised! All three of us had pasta dishes and each one had a special character to them. We tasted each others, of course and they were wonderful. We're going back for the main dishes next time."

  • "We always enjoy an evening at this place. Notable for it's location, just across from City Center, we normally drop in before a performance for an early dinner. The food is quite nice: wonderful spreads of white bean or eggplant or ricotta for starters; the squid on white beans; linguine with clams. A lot of neighboring diners were doing the Prix Fixe ($38, I think) -- a beautiful-looking chicken breast with olives and rosemary seemed the most popular. Sides of broccoli rabe and brussel sprouts were terrific. The wait staff was friendly and attentive to our curtain time. And the maitre d was happy to relocate us after being seated next to a boisterous table. Highly recommended. And you just might see Mikhail Baryshnikov. :)"

  • "This was my second time here. I ordered a la cart, and there is many to choose from! The Fiji Apple salad was simply amazing, as well as the Artic Char. I went with the chocolate bomb for dessert, no disappointment there."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a friend, who dined with me. The food was outstanding! Staff was very friendly, food came out in a timely manner as we had a matinee to attend. We both had prix fixe and the portions were just right for 3 courses. Planning another trip soon!"

  • "40yr old couple... Food was good (we had two pasta dishes & apps)... Had dinner at 5:30 before walking down to MSG for a show... Not loud and very relaxed... worth it for a couple or small group..."

  • "An excellent Italian restaurant with a thoroughly authentic menu that changes periodically. Food is very well prepared and nicely plated. Service friendly and prompt. Across street from City Center so particularly good when attending performances there."

  • "I've been to Abboccato several times but recently returned to see they had revamped the menu as they have a new chef. One thing I really enjoyed about the new menu was the array of options for entrees. The pastas were always their specialties but now they have so many different things to choose from we had a hard time picking! I had the lamb chops which were delicious and my husband had the veal osso bucco which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! They even split a pasta (with a porcini cream sauce) in half for us so we could have that as an appetizer. I can't wait to try the other new items the next time I go to city center."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "Great food, we shared some small plates for appetizers, and then for entree I got the Branzino and my husband got the Veal Chop. Everything was outstanding. The waiter was very conscious of our need to get out of the restaurant in time for the theater, and she made sure everything came out timely, but not rushed. Everyone was so friendly. I will definitely return."

  • "We went before a ballet performance at City Center, right across the street, & had the prix fixe dinner, which has limited choices. The portions were small but actually just right when you take into account all three courses. We both had the caprese salad (really good heirloom tomatoes & fresh mozzarellla), the skate (delicious, very tasty & expertly prepared), & the tiramisu (also very delectable). The service was fine & the food came quickly. All in all, a very good pre-theater meal."

  • "This place will definitely NOT knock your socks off. I would not say it was bad -- just average. That said, it's conveniently located to the theater district, and right across from the Ailey Theater. If you're looking for a place to grab a glass of wine and a snack before a show, this is the place. But if you're looking for an amazing dinner, look elsewhere."

  • "At lunch, only fattening food (pasta) on prix fixe, so ordered ala carte ... On menu, said entrees were "to share." It turned out the Bronzino was served naked so we had to order sides and was far too small ($35) to share for 2 light eaters. We had matinee tix and were served so slowly that we were worried that we might miss the play across the street. Plus, we had given ourselves 2 hours for the lunch! The food was OK, but the service not close to the standards of the very fancy prices."

  • "I have reviewed many restaurants. This disaster doesn't merit any recognition or the long list of incidents that made this a disaster. We went for breakfast and all that comes to mind is: unorganized, horrendous service, amazingly unfriendly and uncaring. We went because it is close to the gorgeous and extraordinary Warwick Hotel. Talk about something going horribly wrong!! Avoid this disaster. AVOID!!!"

  • "I decided to have dinner here as it was directly across the street from the theatre I was attending. The food was very Delicious and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our waitress even took the time to ask if we were attending a show and what the start time was so that we could be on time."

  • "Food was good, but not outstanding for the price. Regular salad was overdressed, meatballs were good but could have been more flavorful or spicy, skate was excellent, tuna streak good. Tea and expresso were a little steep. Tiramisu was excellent, though could have used a little more cocao powder on top."

  • "I have been going to this restaurant near City Center for several years now and enjoyed it every time! BUT something has changed, like the chef, perhaps. We had the worse food I have tasted in New York City in years. The tuna was indelible ...we sent it back...asked for a simple skate with a little lemon and capers, and the fish came out over cooked and drenched, drenched in sauce... Our waitress was tolerant, not embarrassed at all..so I guess this is the NEW... The menu seems to have gone to heavy pasta dishes, so maybe they are safe, and saucy...just don't go if you want anything else!"

  • "My friend and I were there for a breakfast on Saturday 1/25/14 for the first time. My friend ordered a la carte and I ordered buffet breakfast which comes with juices. But when I went to get my juice from juice table I couldn't believe my eyes. I literally picked up about five glasses and they were all so poorly washed if they were ever washed. I gave up serving me juice and left as soon as I can. I can not even remember what I had on that morning. I chose this restaurant after reading opentable comments but my experience there was so horrible. I think serving a decent food is one thing but serving such dirty glassware is unacceptable especially when all five of them I try to use were so."
