Aamanns - Copenhagengood nordic foodBefore we went there, I didn't expect the food to be great because when I searched online and found out Nordic foods are usually made cold and famous dish Smørrebrød is "open sandwich". But the the dishes were on the table, they looked so good: the way how veggies, pickles and meats are put together. Foods are super delicious! They are a little sweet and a little sour, but not too extreme. With horseradish in the dressing, the meal was made tasty. Although the restaurant is small, it is clean and quite! All foods are worth-trying!6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest herring ever! This was our first visit for dinner, after having a wonderful Danish breakfast a few weeks ago. We got an assortment of 3 of the open faced sandwiches (chicken salad, roast beef, and whitefish) and 2 of the 3 herrings. The sandwiches were very good (all come with the main ingredient, plus various toppings) but the herrings were off the charts. The sauces were unbelievably flavorful, and the fish itself was fresh and delicious. The portions were quite healthy, and those 5 "small plates" made for a filling meal. Well worth a visit.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat smørrebrød! - nice atmosphereGreat smørrebrød and aquavit! Nice, friendly and professional staff and lovely Danish designed Furnitures! Would definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting or living in NYC. And as a Dane living in the US; it's a nice taste of home :-)5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Danish sandwiches servedGood Danish sandwiches served in a sparse but clean room. A new server tried very hard. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Try the rye cake for dessert.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spotWent for a late lunch last weekend. As a fan of all things aquavit and herring, Aamanns hit the spot. Well executed food, solid service and a nice ambience. Only wish the portion sizes were larger... but was sufficiently full from the tasting menu.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLove me some Danish! :)I took my new boyfriend there and he was really impressed. We both loved the food and service.
Great options food wise.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing and UniqueWhat a unique dining experience. The ingredients are fresh, and the ambiance is on point. All entrees tend to be tapas style so get a few to share. The fish cakes were excellent and easily the most filling of selections we chose. Would definitely go back again to try seasonal cocktail and menu changes!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWas looking through OpentableWas looking through Opentable for some suggestions and stumbled upon this nice place. Publc transportation was a little slow that night, so we called to let them know about the change of plans and they were very understanding and assured us we would have a table. With the sandwiches, I would suggest getting 2 or 3, you aren't going to be stuffed but you will be satisfied. Service was excellent. All around nice place and good food.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you we spent a veryThank you we spent a very good time. Unpretentious but welcoming. Great addition to the'hood.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovative addition to Tribeca scenunusually attractive modernized version of open-faced Danish sandwiches, exceptionally clever renditions of herring and an attractive dining room. Already a favorite spot for the film festival set.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAs a Dane, I thought thisAs a Dane, I thought this food was absolutely delicious!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service overallThe food and service overall were very good and I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDanish delights in a casual settingAamans is a must for anyone passionate about Scandinavian food -- do you go into raptures over perfect dark rye bread? Exquisite pork liver loaf? Tenderly pan-fried breaded whitefish? Complexly flavored pickled herring? Excellent house-made beer on tap? If you have not previously experienced these and other Danish treats, but would like to widen your horizons, the servers at Aamans will happily and helpfully guide you through their delectable menu. The casual decor evokes summer in Scandinavia -- lots of white and natural wood, with a candle and posy of fresh flowers to bring "hygge" (Danish for "coziness") to your table. (No, we have no financial interest in Aamans and don't know the owners -- we don't even live in NYC or Denmark.)4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Danish, very hygge. NiceVery Danish, very hygge. Nice corner restaurant with dramatic large windows, soft lighting and intimate noise level. We sat at the bar over a few plates and cocktails. Lovely night.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery friendly service fromVery friendly service from our Nebraskan waiter! Smorgasbord was all we expected and more as was the herring ( my Finnish dining partner was impressed). Three small gripes. Paying $1 for bread. No potatoes offered with the herring (Scandinavians love potatoes with their herring). And a bland marzipan cake - more butter than almond. Increase the intensity, please. But a delightful place for lunch.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAamannsI had a great time here. The food was excellent, very authentic. The waiters were very friendly and actually cared about if we liked the food and drinks. The portions were a bit small, but similar size as portions one would get in Denmark.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAn outstanding experienceAn outstanding experience - fantastic food, good service.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMedley of FlavorsI took my husband for lunch for his birthday as he is part Danish and we have never sprung for Aquavit. It was delightful from beginning to end. We chose the Copenhagen selection and were glad we did as we wanted to try both the sandwiches and the herring (fantastic). The warm pork pate was a nice way to end the meal on a cold day.
We wished they had a larger beer selection, although the Evil Twin draught was enjoyable.
We tried the beet, pumpkin, and rye aquavit. The beet was especially good with the food and the rye was a real kicker at the end. We look forward to returning and recommend it as something refreshingly different. The staff was very friendly but also attentive. The ambience was refreshingly light and appealing.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife is Danish and we haveMy wife is Danish and we have been looking forward to eating at Aamans-Copenhagen. It was terrific, there's very little authentic Danish food on the east coast and this is the real thing. We were in the city two days and ate there twice and loved it.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
