A16love this placethis is our go to sport for great Southern Italian cuisine. It never disappoints us. the food is authentic and well made; the ingredients are superb. And i don't know of anywhere in the Bay Area with this strong a collection of Italian wine from all regions.

One thing that I don't appreciate is how difficult the hostess is. This seems to be a tradition at this restaurant. Frankly it was too hot sitting there as the open ovens were a little too much to handle. On this visit however, we were seated in the back room where the ambiance was wonderful, as well as the food, and the service was positively excellent. We started with the braised octopus, my husband’s choice. I was worried I wouldn’t like it but he was excited to try it so I told him I wanted it too…and I’m so glad I did! It was amazing…we cleaned the plate…I even ate the olives that came in it and I don’t like olives!
For our entrees; I had the Salsiccia pizza and the hubby had the squid ink tonnarelli…we shared which was awesome…you get to try more things this way!
Finally for dessert we tried the almond pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream…super d-lish!

Everything is wonderfully flavorful and visually appealing. The service is very kind and even when the kitchen backs up the servers stay calm and helpful. The open kitchen is wonderful and validates the feeling that they truly care about perfecting every dish. I do not drink but they have a beautiful bar and a full wine list that is sure to make any wine-lover happy. We split a pizza, a pasta dish, and a side (roasted asparagus). The Salsiccia Pizza (mozzarella, fennel, sausage, roasted broccoli rabe, grana padano, garlic, chilies and olive oil) was really good; the 14" size was generous, the crust was thin but robust enough for the ingredients, and the combination of flavors and textures was terrific. The pasta dish looked sort of like a crepe burrito, filled with duck and ricotta (delicious). The roasted asparagus was really delicious, but of all the dishes the "value proposition" ($7 for about 7 pieces) was terrible. Definitely make a RSVP or prepare to wait, very popular! Charcuterie Board, creamy Burrata w/Crostini and the Giagganti (sp?) Beans are perfect starters. If your lucky their fabulous Spring Soup of multi layered broth with thinly sliced asparagus & fresh spring peas will be available. Good luck picking a pizza, all really good. Grano Arso Cavatelli w/Pork Belly Sugo was tasty but the Cavatelli pasta was definitely firm becoming too much pasta to chew. By comparison, the Nettle & Ricotta Gnocchi w/Mushrooms was a softer pasta, light & flavorful.

However, we got there early for a 6:30pm reservation at 6:10pm. Very few patrons in restaurant. Hostess was notifed we were early and were waiting for our 3rd party to arrive. Asked if we could sit at our table. Immediate you could behind the poker faces this was going to throw things ary (sp?) Why, this was the first seating and what was the issue? She kept us waiting before she sat us.She kept on fiddlling with the computer thinking there was a problem. I can see at 7pm showing up at 6pm.
