A word from A16 - San Francisco
A16 is a restaurant and wine bar bringing the delicious and hospitable traditions of lively Campania to San Francisco. The chic, rustic/modernist venue is named after the motorway that transverses
the South of Italy. The restaurant features wood oven-fired Neapolitan Pizza and other specialties of Campania such as Maccaronara with ragu napoletana and house-made ricotta salata. The wine bar serves 40 wines by the glass and half bottle carafe. The list is 60 percent Italian, mostly from the South, and the other 40 percent is New World, celebrating premiere Italian varietals grown in California along with many California wines.

Very noisy-until we asked and were moved to table in rear enclosed studio. Service was very slow. Took over an hour to get our main course. Would not let me have a taste of the wine before ordering it. Service was amateur. Waitress clearing our plates brought dirty fisher from another table to out table. One pizza was especially good. Other pizza and mussels not memorable. Pasta dishes boring

We had been here before, but honestly I forgot how good A-16 is. Everything was just spectacular. The menu at A-16 feels contemporary, and they have a broad range of options that are all very different. We started with the melon salad. Completely caught me off guard. A must order. I usually don't order pasta out; most Italian pastas seem repetitive and too subtle. The pasta I had at a-16 was fantastic. We shared a pizza too, and it was really good. Crust was flawless. The staff picked 2 bottles of wine for us (after a brief discussion about what we like), and we loved each one. The staff showed us a great time, and we'll definitely return.

Invited my foodie cousin to A16 and he was impressed. Service was very good although the wine could have come more quickly as the restaurant was not exceptionally busy. The food was superb! The fish portion was rather small however, whereas the size of the meat (lamb) entree was extremely large! My cousin arrived 10 minutes early and was not allowed to be seated even though the restaurant had many free seats, so you might think about changing that policy.

First of all, we got seated in the outside "cry room" which looked to be an afterthought of an addition to the restaurant. We had a reservation and with only two tables in the whole place taken, I think they should have offered us a much better table location. The menu definitely needs some more traditional selections, (like lasagne, cannelloni, ect.) and more pasta vegetarian choices as well. My husband's chicken was bland at best and my mushroom pizza was completely average. We got help from the Sommelier in selecting a wine, shortly thereafter I was not feeling well...need I say more? The one positive is that our waitress was adorable and very attentive, friendly and helpful. Oh and no spirits?! A downer for sure!

It has been awhile since I had dinner here but I had remembered it being really good. Reservation was not ready (15 min wait) Table was terrible as in it was sandwiched between 2 other tables (I could not push my chair back for bumping into the person behind me) Food over all was ok. Nothing stood out or said I need to go back and have it again. Service was a bit slow after the appetizers and they did not refill water glasses. I like to leave a restaurant thinking when 'can I go back?'. I did not have that feeling.

We have been to the Bay area many times. Experiencing food in a new and unique way at A16 was a real treat. We came for lunch and chose seats at the counter to be close to the action. An open kitchen gives diners a view to the skill and effort needed to create a truly excellent dining experience. The staff made our meal fun as we chatted with them and watched "the show." Each course was created, presented, and served with enthusiasm. We started with an olive assortment with bread (loved them both!) Our salads were a treat, with an abundance of familiar and surprise elements like squash flower. The fungi pizza made in the woods fired oven was filling and scrumptious. Our peach crostata and gelato desserts were to die for! We'll be back!

We have dined at A-16 many times over the years, but our last visit was disappointing. The rabbit dish was greasy, soggy snd lacked a dominant flavor. The side salad did not seem fresh or crispy and was overly-dressed. My wife's halibut was somewhat dry and over-cooked. Even the peach tart had very few peaches. Let's hope things change!

If you want to re-live your Italian vacation experience of fabulous food and wine this is the place to go. Can't go wrong- so much good food it's hard to choose what to have. Who said you can't have pizza and pasta the same night (try and resist- it's impossible)...and the wine...The Somms are knowledgable, and really nice selection to choose from. Wines from the Campania Region, hard to find / not common wines ...you can find them here...

Had another fabulous meal at A16. This is our go-to place for friends, family and guests from out of town. One of the best restaurants in SF! Great service and wine recommendations. Burrata was awesome, as was the Bruschetta. Funghi pizza and Margherita pizza with egg and arugula were to die for. My husband loves the maccaronara. Dessert was incredible--chocolate budino tart and burnt caramel gelato. Seriously!

We made a special effort to drive from Windsor, CA to dine at A16. It was everything we had heard and more. The wine list, mostly Italian, was daunting. However, the Sommelier was very helpful as was our server. The service was impeccable, the food very fresh, locally sourced, delicious and creative. We cannot wait to go back.

Being from Napa, we had only tried American wines. A 16 introduced us to a variety of Italian wines, as well as an amazing array of delicious food. They provided us with an extra appetizer on the house, just for coming all the way from Napa for their food. Simply amazing, very energetic atmosphere.

Came here for lunch the other day, and had a wonderful experience. A much larger space than it looks from the outside, the atmosphere is nice, and a clean design. The wine list was more than impressive, with extensive representation of Italian wines, both BTG and bottle. We had the bruschetta to start, which was great. We also had the char entree and if I remember correctly, a summer squash dish as well. Service was good, and the ambience was quiet as we were one of the first ones there that day for lunch, but it did certainly pick up. Very happy to have tried A16. Will be back, and most likely the Rockridge location that is closer to us.

Phenomenal experience at A16. Notably, the special treatment received for the conclusion of our Honeymoon, the burrata appetizer is a MUST, pizza, wine, service and overall dining experience were all second to none. Forget a 2 hour wait at other SF Pizza Joints (cough cough, tony's) when you can have better at A16! You know a restaurant has there sh*t together when they swap out your plates and cutlery (used or not) between each course. Their staff was very knowledgable and attentive, never letting our wine nor water glasses hit empty without a visit. LOVED it.

I've enjoyed A16 for many years but each of my last 3 visits left me disappointed. In 2 of my last 3 visits we had to send food back to the kitchen because it was undercooked (our server on 1 occasion told us we should "stick to pizza" which eliminates 75% of the menu). My last visit to the restaurant was worse. We alerted our server to my fiancé's nut allergy & ordered dishes that didn't include nuts. Nevertheless, my fiancé's dish arrived with a pistachio on top of it, indicating lack of control in the kitchen which put his life at risk. The manager was defensive and didn't do anything to assure us the problem would be looked into so as not to happen again.

First time to A16 but it won't be the last. Service was seamless at lunch! Glasses were never empty, we were asked if we were doing fine multiple times and waitstaff along with front of the house had very helpful suggestions on what to order. The quality of the raw ingredients and the care with which the food was prepared was amazing. The wood-fired oven crust on the pizza was the perfect combination of chewiness and puffiness but yet appropriately thin. Food was not only excellent but beautifully plated as well. This could very well become one of my regular lunch haunts! Looking forward to my next visit hopefully for dinner!

Our group of five lunched on Wednesday - always fascinating, as it is usually the day meat is being broken down in the kitchen behind the lunch counter. We had a rinside table to see and hear the action. The main course was, as always, excellent and the "icing on the cake" was that we previewed a new dessert addition, strawberry walnut crumble, that was to be added to the menu that evening. A16 is an outstanding addition to the San Francisco restaurant scene.

I have enjoued a lot of foodie fabulous gourmet pizza including wonderful pizzas enjoyed in Italy. I've beenwher to A-16 three times now and I honestly feel the pizza is just average. I don't get why everyone raves. It's doughy and not particularly vibrant or tasty in any remarkable way. Also the back room where we the unfortunate experience of being seated this time was so hot in temperature as to be completely uncomfortable. They told me there was air conditioning on but it must've been 80 in there. The noise level is also very high.

The yellowtail crudo appetizer had a musty, odd smell and taste--not spoiled, but unappetizing. We told the waitress and she apologized and very pleasantly removed the plate and told us there would be no charge. The pasta was absolutely the worst plate of pasta I have ever eaten--anywhere--and I'm including the Kraft macaroni & cheese box I used to make as a teenager. I'm not being facetious. It was a tasteless brick of starch. Service was good, ambiance nice, and sound level not too loud. The peach melba dessert with raspberries was also good. A very up and down evening that we won't repeat any time soon. I have to give the food a single star even though it was not all bad, but the bad was VERY bad.

Maybe because people said it was so good, or maybe because I love SPQR, I was expecting a better experience. For me, the menu was small. Perhaps it was my mood, but I had a hard time finding anything I really wanted to eat. I ordered the proscuitto and figs (a starter) as a main course. I had the melon salad to start; it was light and tasty. I felt pack in. The table of 4 to our right left during our meal; they wanted to break it into 2 tables of 2, so they moved our table closer to the table to our left. It was unpleasant to get smooshed during our meal. A16 is one of the few restaurants not respectful of my note that I am very allergic to fragrances - to please try to seat us somewhere a bit isolated. My meal was ruined due!!
