  • "An hour between appetizers and main courses Food way way too salty Hanger steak very tough and the burnt fava beans as the side was unedible. Has to ask for bread No water refills Desserts were the best part of the meal"

  • "Limited menu selections that we liked and the service was very slow. We finished our meals before our second round of drinks arrived."

  • "Great Italian food, impressive Italian wine list, and good service"

  • "We took our son and his partner here for his birthday - it was another amazing A16 meal - top class, never disappoints - excellent service."

  • "The food isn't complicated, but the flavors are outstanding - this night two of the standout dishes were the spring salad and the squid ink cavatelli. The service is amazing - this restaurant will go out of their way to make your experience fantastic! The wine list is a joy with terrific quality and great values, just ask the sommelier to guide you."

  • "A 16 is an impressive and enjoyable dating venue. The food is great! I even ate all my veggies!!"

  • "Yummy!Interesting combinations! Pizzas were delicious- Brussels sprouts were the table favorite! Our server was very nice- she had good wine recommendations and appeared when we needed her. My only complaint was that we waited soooo long after our salads for our main dishes and then they sort of rushed us through dessert. Get an early reservation- after 7:30 it starts to get pretty crowded and loud!"

  • "Our server Lauren was fantastic! Every dish was delightful and Lauren was very knowledgable about the perfect wine pairing. We will be back soon!"

  • "Some of the dishes were excellent. The server recommended a wine, then forgot to place the order. But the wine I finally did get was superb. Pasta was "al dente" to the point of being unchewable, but halibut was excellent. Service was slow and actually got slower as the place emptied out. Our server brought dessert menus, which we did not want, then disappeared until we got the attention of the hostess to get us the bill. Still I would definitely go back."

  • "More than one dish was far too salty, spoiling what could have been outstanding food (I think). We could not even eat the brussels sprouts yet when we complained no replacement was offered. We complained about both the pasta course as well. When our desert was served the waitress brought 2 gelatos in addition to our ordered desert which was not really a good choice as that was far too much desert for the 2 of us. I probably will not return."

  • "The food and service at A16 Rockridge are excellent, and I will probably go back occasionally for that. But the unbelievable noise level spoils what would otherwise be an unqualified recommendation. The restaurant needs a redesign with more sound-absorbing surfaces."

  • "This was a third time for my son and his girlfriend. Both wee disappointed. There was a hair in the pizza which our server was kind enough to comp Us for. I had the tricoli pasta with meatballs as did my son's girlfriend. Neither one of us finished as it was really bad meatballs had way to much strong tasting cheese and too mushy. Dessers were delicious. Service declined as the place got busier."

  • "Capped off our Big Day with dinner at a16 Rockridge. Every course and beverage was suggested by either Ann (best server in Oakland. Period.) or the very knowledgeable Sommelier or the manager running the front of house show that evening. Every suggested item was amazing. 3 of us opted for the Tues. lasagna...wow! Our other dinner was an amazing lamb plate (perhaps the best sausage any of us have tasted + a lovely leg slice). The team spoiled us with a few sides and a sinful dessert. Just put yourself in their very capable hands is my suggestion. We left feeling like royalty and family...this entire crew really knows how to impress while not affecting a trace of stuffiness. VERY highly recommended!"

  • "Cold. The restaurant lacked in personality. We sat at the chef's counter and watched tats and A's hats move confusedly about without so much as a hello. Inconsistent food Dilivered after an hour and a half. Total lack of personality."

  • "The focus of this restaurant is great wine and delicious simple food from southern Italy. Time and time again I've been so impressed by the wines - I really trust the sommelier; she clearly knows what she's doing! The food is pure comfort food for me. Most everything is good, but you must try the fried olives, montanara pizza, and brussels sprouts to fully appreciate this restaurant. After every meal here, I find myself thinking that I can't wait to return."

  • "Although the food was good, the overall experience was not that enjoyable as the noise level was really over the top. The room is large and crowded with many tables, and with wooden floors and ceilings there noise just bounces around. In some places this can produce an energetic vibe, but here it was just plain tiresome. Cocktails were served in small glasses and seemed chintzy. So even though the service was good and the food fine, A16 does not live up to its promise."

  • "Pizza was nothing special. Most of the dishes we had were quite bland. Having been to A16 in SF, we had high expectations, but our experience was not very good."

  • "An evening at A-16 should be a night to remember. We had a party do 5, and were seated in back room, and really felt like we were in a different restaurant. Service was really slow and infrequent, and the room had zero atmosphere. After dinner, we walked out through the main dining room and saw the lively restaurant as it should be. Food was good though."

  • "Every time we've chosen A16, we order and share different menu items. Starting with the citrus salad and mouthwatering risotto, the seabass special with a side of crispy brussel sprouts was fantastic. Without thinking we had room for dessert, I'm so glad we couldn't resist the milk chocolate panna cotta -~cinnamon meringue, candied almonds, rum caramel...Thank you, Chef Rocky, for another exquisite blend of flavors."

  • "We love the food at A16, as well as the flexibility of the menu. Unfortunately, it's extremely noisy, which can make conversation difficult or impossible. And the OpenTable rating on noise should not have "energetic" as it's highest noise rating!"

  • "Had the citrus salad, margarita pizza, and the crispy brussel sprouts - all very salty. I don't mind salt, and they were good, but these were like a dry lake bed in Utah. The wood fire oven rib eye was perfect."

  • "This was my second trip to A16 and my last. We had reservations for 8:30 and the server did not seat us until almost 9:30, blaming it on the party before us. Once we were seated and placed our order the food took over an hour to get out to us. The wait staff tried to serve us someone else's dinner, twice! The food was good but the service was subpar. Very unorganized, not what I would expect from a restaurant like this."

  • "We had a 830 rezzy and were not seated until 910. The manager did give us a small pour of champagne which was nice. The app came out fast and they poured our wine we brought very timely. Our pizza was just ok...the amount of burrata and toppings were thin but tasty. Very loud dinner spot. We will be back...just going to give it a break."

  • "I went for a solo dinner on my birthday, a Wednesday night. The wine selection was fantastic and loved the focus on wines from Campania. Wine was the highlight for me, but the food was also solid, especially the kohlrabi salad with fried capers. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. My waitress seemed very uninterested in me from the beginning. Not sure if it was because I was alone or young(ish). It was especially striking to me because I could hear all of her interactions with the tables on either side of me. She never brought me bread, seemed very put out by my request for help selecting wines, and tried to bring me the check after my salad before I'd even had a chance to order my entree. Not in a rush to go back."

  • "Happy to have this in my neighborhood, and it is a sister restaurant from the one in San Francisco. The food it excellent and the service is almost flawless. There is a bar to hang out in as well. I've been here twice now, and both times were really great."

  • "Brussel sprout burnt. Potatos burnt. Meatballs burnt. Too much fried item's on fish; although fish was cooked well."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "I had the lamb meatballs and my husband had the rib-eye. Both were good but neither meat tasted very distinctive. The rib eye was not actually a steak but slices off a roast so no yummy carmelization on the sides, just the ends. The menu description should specify a roast, not steak - maybe we missed that but were surprised a bit."

  • "We've been trying to get here for a while and finally did. It lives up to the hype with tasty, inventive food and extremely attentive (yet not annoying) service."

  • "A group of friends and I had dinner there and it was amazing. From the deep fried olives, to the burrata, to the hawaiian amberjack to lamb chop to the rib-eye. All was amazing. Good wine list with depth in both pricing and selection without being too unruly. Will definitely go back."

  • "From cocktails to dessert we had a wonderful experience with great food and attentive staff. We ordered a bottle of wine and at first sip we did not care for and they cheerfully found us a wine we did like. We are looking forward to next visit."

  • "We are big fans of A16 Rockridge. The food is delicious and well-prepared and the menu changes seasonally. If you haven't had a chance to taste the foods of southern Italy, this is your chance to try some from the best. Their pizza makers are certified in Naples and the pizzas are wonderful. The wine list is so large as to be a bit intimidating to the uninitiated, but the sommelier is very good at selecting something you will like. Go now and try it. We think you'll like it too."

  • "We had an outstanding experience at A16. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us due to a VERY noisy party seated nearby. We were well cared for by our waiter, the hostess and the management. What started out looking like a possible nightmare turned into a super dining experience. The quality of the ingredients really were allowed to shine with their simple and elegant presentation. Will return for sure!"

  • "Had a great meal at A16. Loved the food especially the special lasagne. Great service, as well, just what you expect from A16. Note to Shelly. Love your new location in Rockridge, very kid friendly. Nam and I used to eat at the Chestnut location all the time until we had our twins about 3 years ago. We were the couple that had our wedding reception back in the private dining area. Actually, your 1st wedding reception, still one of our favorite memories ever. We will going to the Rockridge location often, hope to see you."

  • "Had a light dinner with a friend. Salad under dressed, pizza crust doughy and very soggy in the middle. Waitress offered to bring a hot pan to firm up the pizza! $70 for salad, bad pizza and a glass of wine. Definitely not worth it!"

  • "We really had a great meal and a great deal on a Sunday evening. Got our table right away and got timely, attentive service. The food was delightful. Spectacular gnocchi and also a nice crab pasta. All matched with a delightful white from Umbria. Go."

  • "VERY disappointing. The menu is creative with unusual ingredient combinations but none of the 3 of us who ate there that night felt the food lived up to the menu descriptions. The execution of the entrees ranged from OK to burnt. The side of roasted veggies I had was sitting in an olive oil slick and many of the vegetables were burned, and I know the difference between burn and char. Most items had no seasoning and gave the impression of a fancy dinner at a rest home. It took a really long time for each course to arrive and nothing hit our table hotter than lukewarm. I had the polenta cake and it was so dry I felt as if I was eating cornmeal. For the prices they charge, I won't go back, and can't recommend it. Spend your money elsewhere."

  • "It is difficult to find something to order from a very limited menu. Friends at another table asked us "What do we order" from a different sounding menu. Gin selection was not good and extremely small martini's are served in rounded sherry glasses and are overpriced at $12. The wine list is primarily Italian and impossible to navigate unless you are very familiar with Italian wines. The wines are very expensive which may be the reason not a lot of bottles were on the tables. We requested a table in the main dining room but were instead seated in the bar area. The hostess advised us it would be a 20 minute wait for the dining room. Seeing my displeasure, she returned in 3 minutes and had suddenly found a table in the main dining room."

  • "I was here the prior week with a work colleague and absolutely enjoyed it. This time I went with my spouse; it was okay, but perhaps being a Saturday evening, it was a lot busier. Our wait between courses was at least 20 minutes. We don't mind waiting in between, but this seemed a lot longer than usual. We enjoyed the gnocchi with mushrooms and the pork shoulder roast."
