  • Bit of a hustle

Dinner here was a mixed bag. Great view if you can get a table right by the window otherwise a kind of cold corporate interior. Kind of Vegas like- a veneer of sophistication in the TW center which is a glossy mall. The food was delicious and was served very fast. Our cocktails were interrupted by exhortations to pour the wind because the food was coming. The wine was a total hustle. We and every table around us were offered the "opportunity" to drink from the large format bottles which we accepted, we were then exhorted to order the half bottle which seemed shirt when the carafe arrived. A cheeky brunello the cost for a half bottle was 100.00 a marvelously round number that let me know I had been had. Servers were too much present. Away

I was expecting good things having dined at the downtown A Voce years ago, and unfortunately I was very disappointed. The service was pleasant but slow and inattentive. We appeared to not really have a waiter assigned to us - they kept switching around and none of them were keeping watch on the table. The food was also incredibly underwhelming - the burratina I had lacked depth and flavor (weak olive oil, no salt) and my ammatriciana pasta dish was almost sweet, with none of the spice usually associated with the dish, almost non-existent pancetta and no developed flavor. And despite the fact that this is NOT by any means a cheap meal, the waitstaff were continually trying to "upsell" us on wine, sides and digestives in the most tacky way.

We had a dinner for my daughter's 16th birthday and her friends loved it. They got stuck coming into the city and the maitre d' was lovely in spite of their one hour late arrival. THe food was delicious, in particular the squid appetizer and tuna special. The girls loved their pastas, and dessert was terrific.

Very good food as usual. However the menu was totally different from the website. The restaurant needs to update more often. The service of our waitress was good but the busboys kept on coming even though one of our guest was still eating and there were enough tables available. Very annoying.

The food was innovative, delicious, and beautifully presented. The décor was modern and handsome. Unfortunately the noise level was so high that it was almost painful to be there. There was nothing to absorb the sound, not even tablecloths. Unlike some restaurants where one experiences a general overall din, here you could even hear details of conversations at tables 10 feet away. It is very disappointing because the food would have brought me back if the noise level had been tolerable.

First return to A Voce since renovation. Via OpT, mentioned my son's b-day, requested seat with view so his girlfriend's 1st A Voce exp, would be memorable. From recpetion through each course, staff wished him, Happy B-day, spectacular view from window table of Columbus Circle, knowledgeable staff, terrific recommendations, fabulous wine list, both with spectacular vitanges and excellent moderately priced wines. Pricey, but worth every penny. Each course was well presented and delicious, fresh, novel, yet authentic. Could not be happier.

    O. M. G. We started with the hamachi crudo and learned what perfection tastes like. The ravioli contained an abundance of flavors. Our fish (the red snapper and branzino) were perfectly cooked and paired perfectly with the veggies they were plated with. Our dessert was the perfect finish to the meal. I missed the pot of ricotta they have served with bread in the past but the pesto this time was spectacular. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous and chose the perfect glass of wine to complement each course. There's a reason I've been here multiple times over the years and I look forward to my next visit.

  • Restaurant week at A Voce
    Voracious
    Dined on 8/14/2014
I always take advantage of A Voce's special menu for Restaurant Week, since it is such a great value. The food is high quality (although not as flavor-layered as when Missy Robbins was the chef) and not a slap-dash rendering of boring dishes (as in some participating restaurants). The pastas are lovely here, and there was a choice of chitarra with mussels in a saffron sauce. Very satisfying. I also was happy with a pureed pea soup - so summery fresh-tasting. Desserts are always good; this time a riff on tiramisu (with strawberries). There are also featured wines at special prices. Add to that, a beautiful view and good service. To me, this is a win/win.

Had lunch during Restaurant Week NYC Summer 2014. Excellent meal, very professional and friendly waiter, great view, sophisticated decor, and did I mention the delicious meal. For our entrees, I chose the pancetta which was delicious pork belly prepared to perfection. My husband chose the grilled dorade - again just beautifully prepared and so good. Both dishes were outrageously delicious. Will definitely visit this restaurant again.

From the bread and pesto to the last of the wine, everything is always well-presented, fresh and seasonal and delicious (sometimes a tad salty). Burrata was creamy with eggplant accompanying it. Ravioli was lick-the-plate satiating. My companion was equally happy with her branzino and the fried zucchini was perfectly crisp on the outside and steamy on juicy on the inside. This was the best of the RW restaurants I've experienced this season! Classy, food was very, very nice with gourmet offerings befitting RW. I had the mussels with saffron pasta which was delicious as was the tiramisu! Green salad was well dressed with broiled (according to the waiter) lemon slices. I returned to Avoce Columbus Circle on 03-Aug-2014. Their special 2003 Dom Pérignon $50 by glass with 28oz. Tomahawk steak with black summer truffle was a deal!!!!! Two of us ordered Tuna crudo, Pancetta (must try and we ordered the 2nd one during dinner), and Calamari with smoked baby squid and lentil as starters and paired with a bottle of 1998 Taittinger champagne. For the main courses, 28oz Tomahawk steak and Octopus gnocchi were paired with a bottle of 1988 Amarone della Valpolicella. Finally, we had five selections of formaggi, espresso mascarpone tiramisu along with the espresso martini and cognac for dessert.
