A Toute HeureConsistently Excellent!My fiancée and I have been frequenting A Toute Heure since we moved to Centennial Village in 2010. The quality of the seasonal menu selections, locally sourced food and attentive, friendly service has been maintained, if not exceeded in our three years as returning diners.
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have a five star Manhattan level restaurant less than a block away from our home. The decor was neat, clean and romanticly charming . The service was personable, friendly and sophisticated. The food was farm fresh , amazing pairings that we wouldn't have thought about with just the right amount of seasoning and flavor. We tried 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and had oysters to start . The dessert was amazing as well. We have been raving about this place all weekend and plan to come back very soon ! We had never been there before, so the waitress gave us a mini-tour of the menu. We had a cheese platter to start, served with delicious bread, garlic knots, honey, apple butter and a delicious herb butter. So great! I then had the chicken dumplings and ricotta gnocchi - absolutely divine! I did find the white wine sauce to be a bit on the salty side, which is the reason why I didn't give the food 5 stars. My mom had the fish of the day - porgie, with spring vegetables. She loved how light it was and that it didn't make her feel stuffed. For desert, she had a scoop of pistachio ice cream, while I had their lemon bar with lemon-lavender ice cream!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply Amazing!!This place never ceases to leave me amazed. The food is nothing short of perfect. Everything, from something as simple as the amazing bread (fresh baked, comes to the table hot, crispy, flaky) served with tarragon butter, to the marinated olives (so simple yet done perfectly), to the falafel balls (ridiculous), every single piece of food was incredible. The pistaccio ice cream served with my dessert wasnt particularly great...but it was an accompaniment to the rhubarb custard tart which was outstanding. Went for an early mothersday lunch...my mom was blown away. ATH is just a step above the rest. I will eat anything they put on the menu. I had flounder for dinner which was cooked nicely but the sauce on the plate was very salty- my hands were swollen the next day! My hisband had pasta with clams - also a bit salty and I thought a little bland. I was a little disappointed with the menu in general- I'd remembered it being a bit more fresh local veggie focused, less fatty meats. The desserts were ok as well- my hubs loved his rice pudding and the chocolate trifle was alright, but the best part about it was the almond milk ice cream. The owners were fantastic as usual and our waitress was fine. We had the duck. The duck sat on roasted duck fat potatoes w spicy broccoli rabe on top & sunny side up egg. Delicious, however I felt the broccoli rabe didn't add anything & was a little too spicy therefore making the egg & the duck by default spicy. My 2nd critique would be the dessert menu. I ordered a caramel chocolate cake with chocolate covered pretzel ice cream. Now maybe it is because I'm a pastry chef but I would never advertise the item the way it was listed. I couldn't taste an oz of caramel and the ice cream was just chocolate with pretzels crunched up on the bottom. We have heard rave reviews for years and finally had an opportunity to have dinner. The pork loin entree (pot au feu style) was heated thru and every bite brought together all the nuances of the ingredients from start to finish. Homemade pasta let the lamb meatballs shine through and the apple cake with mole ice cream made it a memorable birthday dinner for my husband. The service was great - several different members of the staff either served our food, cleared our dishes, or just stopped to see if we were pleased with everything. We especially appreciated the fact that the owner stops at the tables. At ours, she explained the specials and later checked to make sure we were enjoying the special fish dish - the grouper - which was delicious. began with a mussel pot, so fresh and a delicious way to start. Appetizers of
of perfect frog's legs and salt cod croquettes, entrees of pork shoulder braise
and slow-cooked rabbit with lovely sides rounded out a top-notch meal. Chef Kara is constantly changing the menu and incorporates the freshest ingredients. There is always something creative on the menu and the food is straight from the farm/markets.
Don't miss "Kara's Mussels" my personal fave in the restaurant. A pot of perfectly cooked Mussels in a saffron broth with tangy sausage meat. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the food is delicious and it's BYOB. We started with a tasty hand-made pizza that had local cheeses and bacon with a sunny side-up egg on top (sounds unusual, but it was great). My husband had the chicken stuffed with turkey-feta sausage that he really enjoyed and I loved the fish of the day (black sea bass with an amazing celery puree and delicious root mash). We topped it off with dessert and their hand-made ice cream and then rolled ourselves out the door.
