A word from A Toute Heure
A Toute Heure, the local bistro located in the Centennial Village of Cranford, uses the freshest ingredients sourced from local farms + markets. Their new American menu is an exploration of the best ingredients the season has to offer. Enjoy lunch or dinner in the charming dining room. The food is incredibly wine friendly, so BYO.

Opened in May of 2007, this small bistro, run by Andrea & Jim Carbine is making an impression with their strong connection to local farmers and artisans. Jame's Beard nominee, Andrea Carbine tends to the bistro's own gardens, and works with farmers to select the best of the seasonal bounty for the menu. The kitchen is led by talented Executive Chef Kara Decker + her Chef de Cuisine Robyn Reiss. A Toute Heure received Edible Jersey magazine's 2008 "Local Hero" award for restaurants.

A Toute Heure's sister restaurant is 100 Steps Supper Club + Raw Bar!

  • "A Toute Heure has an eclectic menu of great food and an unpretentious feel. The staff was knowledgeable and provided excellent service without being overbearing. It's BYOB, which allows you to spend your money on more delicious food! The atmosphere might be a bit crowded and loud for some folks but we enjoyed the rustic motif and lively ambiance. Great spot."

  • "We usually love ATH. This meal left something to be desired however. It kind of seemed that most of the dishes weren't flavorful as they usually are. Service was wonderful as always. Can't put my finger on what it was, but it was just a disappointing experience tonight."

  • "The menu changes monthly and this month's menu did not dissapoint. Fried polenta, empanada, chorizo dip and oysters were fantastic starters. Main courses featured an excellent mussel pot and perfectly cooked steak."

  • "The food at ATH is always spot on. The wait staff could not be nicer. One of our favorite restaurants. I wish it was easier to get a reservation."

  • "Courteous, friendly and attentive service throughout. Weeknights appear to be packed in the 7-8pm hours, which can result in a fairly noisy atmosphere, but after 8:30 things calmed down quite a bit, and conversations became more comfortable. Cute place, awesome food, fair prices and BYOB - who could ask for anything more?"

  • "It was our fist time at Toute Heure. We have very early reservations (5pm) and I thought it would be too early for us. We generally make dinner reservations 7:30-8:30 pm. As it turns out even at that early hour the place was immediately packed. The energy level was perfect, not too noisy but lively enough to make the dinner enjoyable. The food was tasty (I love the farm to table concept), the service was great. The place is very small, it had a Lower East Side (NYC) type feel, just because of the size NOT the prices. I also loved that it is a BYOB. I will definitely come back again. The only downside for me was the parking and perhaps not much of a down side because the place is great, we had a hard time getting reservations."

  • "This was my first time and wish to go back as soon as I can secure another reservation. We were greeted at the door by one of the employees with a warm inviting smile. We arrived timely and were immediately seated. The husband of the owner came to our table pour the wine and engaged in casual conversation in very relax tone making us comfortable. The waiter went over the menu and specials and answer my wife's every question. That made it easy for wife to decide on her meal. I was thankful for that. The food was excellent, perfect small portion, tasty and very well presented . Bring your own wine and enjoy."

  • "This was my second visit to ATH. I have been very impressed on both occasions. They have a selection of four different mussel pots. I have now tasted two of them and they were equally excellent (although they had the smaller type mussels and I prefer the larger ones). My friend had the scallops and I had the porcini papardelle with wild mushrooms. Both dishes were excellent. The parker rolls were amongst the best bread either of us have tried (although when they brought additional bread to dip in the sauce from the mussel pot, they brought a plain white bread which was a disappointment). The apple cake dessert was outstanding. The service was equally excellent."

  • "My second visit to this restaurant. Not as good as first time. Had the roast carrot bisque as appetizer, it was so hot I sensed it was microwaved, and was a little bland. My Spanish Mackerel entrée was overcooked and a bit dry though the presentation was good. My companion had the Tuna tartare app. - very good, and the scallops which were also good. Finished off with some very good local cheeses. The place was crowded and busy, with two larger groups and I sensed that the kitchen was under pressure and not as "on their game" as usual. I will probably try them one more time. They tend to have an interesting if limited menu, with locally sourced ingredients and cheeses."

  • "What an amazing meal, as always. Our server Laura was fantastic and everything she recommended was spot on. Our host Jane was so friendly and explained every special in great detail. The food is impeccably prepared and portions are simply perfect sized. You will not leave here hungry. And love that it's BYOB! We will be back for sure!"

  • "We were recommeneded this restaurant by friends and the trip was very worthwhile! My husband had food that he'd never have at home and it was BYO!"
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "It started at the front door. We were welcomed as long-lost friends, even though it was our first time. We were able to select a nice corner table. The servers were attentive and friendly, without being overwhelming. The food (Steak Frites for her, bowl of mussels for me) was outstanding. We also shared an oyster plate as appetizer: excellent. All in all, we will definitely return for another special occasion."

  • "This quaint and cozy restaurant has a unique and delicious menu. Staff is always pleasant and very well versed in their food and wine. Love this place! It's our go-to-spot for special occasions. You must get the cheese plate before every meal; all entrees are delicious and make sure you save room for dessert!"

  • "Service and food were fab. Our experience on 2/12 was fully consistent w/ previous dates. This restaurant is at the top of its game and worthy of repeat business. No buyers remorse, ever!!"

  • "Once again A Toute Heure delivers. I had the fish of the day, which was a perfectly cooked and beautifully fresh snapper. My husband had the steak, which he could not finish primarily because we had stop at their sister restaurant across from ATH and had raw bar prior to our dinner, not to mention the 2 appetizers-pig cheek croquets and tuna tartare- yum. There's a very good selection of cheese which is a good thing since their desserts are way too sweet for us and a cookie (as good as they are) is not my idea of the perfect ending. In all, I wish we lived closer to this Restaurant."

  • "My wife and I have been trying to nab a RSVP here for quite some time and based upon many of the reviews, we were really looking forward to dining at ATH . The place was quaint, the service warm and polite, but the portions and the price were def not in line.. Don't get me wrong, conceptually ATH is really trying to deliver a superb product. Locally sourced, ingredients, farm to table, blah blah blah with some unique offerings throughout the menu, I get that. However, when your paying $35-$40 per entrée the execution, should be near flawless. We both thought everything was under seasoned and sort of bland. Each dish (fried oysters, pork checks, skate, scallops, choc cake) left something to be desired. Portions were all like 1/2 orders."

  • "Celebrated my husband's birthday there....just the 2 of us. No idea this little gem of a place was only 10 minutes away from where we live. Everything......and I really mean everything.....was delicious! We tried a variety of things off the menu....including dessert. Will definitely go back and we look forward to trying their sister restaurant 100 Steps across the street."

  • "I've eaten here 4 or 5 times and have always been very satisfied. I'm not one to write bad reviews or complain about service, but because they had set their own bar high, I was disappointed on our last visit. When we went for my wife's birthday two nights ago my $30 plate of pappardelle was mostly fused together and the clumps had be be cut crossways rather than coiled like pasta. The young man serving us seemed studiously indifferent, as if he was making a point. He recorded the orders correctly and the food arrived, but it really didn't seem like he deserved the tip generated by a $180 bill. I don't expect obsequiousness, but a polite smile isn't uncalled for. Pasta though...for $30 it should be exceptional, nope, not this time."

  • "My wife and I went to A Toute Heure on a recommendation. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is fresh and all veggies are homegrown. We brought a nice bottle of wine with us and enjoyed two mussel pots. The service was great and the price for what we received was very reasonable."

  • "It was our first time here but it will not be our last! Food was amazing! We couldn't stop talking about the food. The service is wonderful too. Everyone makes you feel very welcome and all very knowledgeable. From 1-10 I would give them a 15!!"

  • "If you love food and are open to savoring the combination of amazing tastes this would be one of the most remarkable meals you will ever have. Each and every time I have gone whether it be lunch or dinner, I have always been amazed by unique combination of flavors and the freshest ingredients. Attentive staff, complete dining experience"

  • "My wife and I love this restaurant - the food is always great and unique with a local flavor. We live in Westfield (a few towns over from Cranford) and I wish this restaurant was in our town. The best local place, but tough to get a weekend reservation due to its popularity. Definitely have a meal here or now their sister restaurant across the street called 100 Steps!"

  • "The food was incredible and the staff well educated. The host and waitress were very pleasant and friendly. The turn out was much faster than I expected which was a nice surprise, and it was great listening faintly to The Band instead of Kenny G. A fancy meal doesn't always have to be served with a side of yacht rock, much appreciated. Overall, it was a big night for us. It was our anniversary, but more importantly we left our baby with a sitter for the first time. Everything about the evening really helped calm our nerves so we could fully enjoy it."

  • "A Toute Heure is not only a darling, quaint, romantic spot with delicious food but the owners have managed to instill a secret ingredient: they make everyone feel special, not rushed and are very professional, not folksy. Even though it is small, the noise level is modest and we could actually hold a conversation. I probably had too high of expectations for the food, so it wasn't spectacular, but it was very, very good. The fact that it is so seasonal is a highlight and I did respect the menu. It was all well done, but nothing served had that "ah hah" moment when a flavor just sends you. The prices were fair and the fact that you could BYOB made it very affordable. Would definitely go back again next time in Cranford!"

  • "I was recommended by a friend that I work with for a nice date night. I asked for a good BYO place, and he nailed it. The food was outstanding, and the service was spot on and friendly. One of the best restaurants I've been to, even though we forgot the wine."
