A word from A Toute Heure
A Toute Heure, the local bistro located in the Centennial Village of Cranford, uses the freshest ingredients sourced from local farms + markets. Their new American menu is an exploration of the best ingredients the season has to offer. Enjoy lunch or dinner in the charming dining room. The food is incredibly wine friendly, so BYO.

Opened in May of 2007, this small bistro, run by Andrea & Jim Carbine is making an impression with their strong connection to local farmers and artisans. Jame's Beard nominee, Andrea Carbine tends to the bistro's own gardens, and works with farmers to select the best of the seasonal bounty for the menu. The kitchen is led by talented Executive Chef Kara Decker + her Chef de Cuisine Robyn Reiss. A Toute Heure received Edible Jersey magazine's 2008 "Local Hero" award for restaurants.

A Toute Heure's sister restaurant is 100 Steps Supper Club + Raw Bar!

  • "Great food and great service - always something unique on the menu"

  • "Great food and service. Kara's mussels were the best I have ever had. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "Always a treat. Best mussel pots ever! Doesn't get any better on this side of the Hudson River!"

  • "As a thank you, I invited two friends for dinner who had supported me when I needed them. The food was excellent. We each had something different (scallops, chicken, mussels) and each was very pleased with her meal. Desert was a fruit cake with ice cream that was very good. Service was exceptional. My one friend was having a gall bladder issue and wanted to be careful about what she ate and what was used to cook it. Our waitress, Jean, with the cooperation of the Chef, made sure that everything was prepared exactly right! A toute here is a very special place"

  • "An outstanding meal, as usual. We always look forward to dining here. Everything on the menu is prepared with such creativity - and the ingredients are always fresh. An absolute treat for those who love farm-to-table dining!"

  • "Andrea and Jim are outstanding hosts to match the outstanding food. The menu changes monthly but the flavors are fantastic. This BYOB is a great place to "please" your palate. Last time I had Kari's mussel pot, a staple, for an appetizer and it was phenomenal. Highly recommend to give this place a try. They also have a place right across the street called 100 Steps if you like the raw bar taste."

  • "Everything was excellent from the mussels appetizer to the scallops and "chicken" entrees to the toffee cake dessert. We got extra dipping bread for the mussels sauce, which was quite useful as the scallops entree is not meant for a big eater. A couple of extra scallops would be appreciated. The wait staff are particularly well-trained and helpful. It's a small, cozy restaurant so the noise level can be a bit loud at times, depending on the clientele dining at the time. It's a tough reservation to get on a Saturday night, but it was well worth the effort."

  • "Our favorite place. Great menu that changes monthly and always has great new additions. Locally sourced, always fresh and seasonal. Super knowledgable staff. We love it."

  • "The food was delicious, with particular kudos for the mussels, pizza appetizer and cheese plate. Service is extremely attentive - you rarely need to ask for anything. The whole experience is really consistent each time we go."

  • "Excellent food focused on farm to table options. It is a small menu filled with inventive options that will get your mouth watering. Try the chickpea patty appetizer and the mussel pots. Yum. The owners are really nice as well. They make you want to come back!"

  • "2nd time here. First time I thought it was amazing. This time not so much. It took more than 2 hours to get our food and by the time it arrived I was no longer hungry. Everyone around us who came later than we did had their meals ahead of us. I mentioned that fact to the server and she just ignored me. For this level of restaurant and the prices, it was unacceptable. I thought the food was great but not fantastic like it was the first time we went. Disappointed."

  • "This is unquestionably the cutest and perhaps the most romantic restaurant in all of Cranford, NJ. The atmosphere is exceptionally terrific, the staff is friendly and the clientele refined without being stuffy. The food is good with some dishes being better than average. However, I routinely have more satisfying meals for half if not a third of the price, albeit in places not nearly as pretty. That being said, you are definitely paying for the ambiance here folks and in that respect, you will get your money's worth. But, at about 100 bucks for two NOT including drinks OR desert... that is a pretty steep price to pay for a meal that will leave you wondering... I just paid 100 bucks for that?!?"

  • "Very nice surprise in a neighborhood---with hi quality and unique food, nice staff, good casual decor, but just a tad noisy."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "we had a delicious meal at A Toute Heure the other night. We had tried many times to book a table here but finally got one at the last minute since we were willing to arrive at 5 o'clock on a Tuesday night. The food was really good and I mean really. The service was outstanding, attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant was about half full when we left and not at all noisy but I can imagine it getting noisy when completely full since it's a small space. That's my only caution and as of now it's unfounded. We will definitely return."

  • "As with all of our previous visits, we enjoyed this one immensely. ATH only does Sunday brunch on the last Sunday of the month, so I recommend reserving ahead, it's not that big of a space. The croque madame was huge and the fried egg on top perfectly cooked. ATH is a bring-your-own and they offer bellini mix, this time a strawberry bellini, as well as orange juice by the glass or carafe. Our favorite wait person, Jane, was attentive and fun. She was also happy to tell us about the sister-restaurant raw bar across Centennial, 100 Steps, its menu, "happy hour" and ambiance there versus ATH (sleek and modern at 100 Steps versus homey and casual). We prefer comfortable, as we were made to feel."

  • "Service very good, as well as the food. Cozy pottery barn esque decor. Little bit tight and loud but still ok. Not romantic nor special occasion type atmosphere but place still packed even with higher end prices which is a good sign of their reputation. Will go again."

  • "This is the type of restaurant we need more of. Small, friendly service and where the food is locally sourced. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and brought our two children. Thank goodness there are no chicken fingers & fries on the menu for the kids!!! Just as in Europe, children are not shunned and they are offered the same food as adults with accommodations for portion size, as it should be. We all enjoyed our food, the service was always with a smile and we left feeling satisfied. Deserts were fantastic. Truly a neighborhood gem. A gastronomic joy!!"

  • "Fantastic little bistro in the burgeoning "South Side" of Cranford, it's been a mainstay of the area for a while. The focus is on local food (NJ to PA, with a local garden a block away) and the preparation is fantastic. I had the ricotta and mozzarella pasta and two days later woke up reminiscing about it. Scallops, pork belly, hazelnut torte, and rhubarb-apple cake all come very highly recommended. Service was impeccable, on the order of Craft or Grammercy Tavern, with the owner coming by to talk us through the specials and the quality continuing along that level through the end of the meal"

  • "Do many variations on mussels. We tried Robyn and Nick mussels pots along with scallops. All very delicious. A great farm to table restaurant! "

  • "We arrived at 5PM (place was almost empty), but had to request the special community hour menu as we were given the regular one. The waitress did have a somewhat odd, panicked reaction after returning with the new menus (which she seemed to be only vaguely aware of), and I recall her repeating the word "cheap" and "cheaper" 2 or 3 times. Funny, because we weren't so much looking to save money as we were simply excited to try the much anticipated ATH burger, which had been the subject of numerous emails from their mailing list. Anyway, that minor discomfort aside, we thoroughly enjoyed most everything (roast wild mushrooms were bland). Plus, despite our cheapness, we were still treated to an amazing little taste (swordfish this time)."

  • "this used to be one of my favorite restaurants -- in and outside the city. The pizza was heavy like a stone, and the potted lobster was incredibly bland -- I used lemon to make it somewhat worth the cals. Mussels were good. Really lovely service. Used to having special meals here. This wasn't bad, just not great. "

  • "Joined by foodies from NYC for a special occasion, we were very pleasantly surprised, even overwhelmed, by both the quite remarkable foor and the fantastic staff. Each of the staff was top-notch, there only when you needed them, plesant & helpful. Special attention was given to a peanut allergy of 1 of our party. Once the teriffic food was served, they didn't hover, just let us enjoy a great meal. Very creative menu with farm fresh ingredients, this place is as good as it gets in New Jersey....and anywhere else for that matter. Its 4 **** in our book. "

  • "Our food tasted great. Spouse had the mussels in bacon and apple cream sauce. Excellent, good portion. I had the lobster pot, with the asparagus. Good, didn't realize it would be a served cold. I had the scallops with squid ink couscous. Tasted good but did not agree with me later that night or next day, unfortunately, ill. Spouse had smoked crispy poussin, excellent. For dessert, I had the hazelnut torte with the creamy chocolate mousse layer. Tasty. We were disappointed though. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, (many years), listed that in the reservation and they mentioned it when they called to confirm reservation, but no mention was made that night, no special treat, no "happy anniversary" even said. No candle, nothing."

  • "The restaurant featured a number of different and interesting options with local, fresh ingredients. And the staff were lovely. The crispy pig's ear was delicious as was the lobster pot and the mussels. Although the restaurant has a French name, there are many other influences to the cuisine. Definitely worth a visit."

  • "Who would have thought that we'd find world-class cuisine at a little BYO place in Cranford? Food is fresh, imaginative, and beautiful. The oysters with cream were a delight. Mussels perfectly done. Poussin as perfect as any I've had in France. All in all a fabulous meal in a delightful and totally unpretentious setting."

  • "This restaurant is exceptional. The food is always superb. The staff is the friendliest I've ever come across, and the fact that this gem resides in the little town of Cranford makes it all the more special."

  • "Aonther wonderful meal at A Toute Huere. This time the Glazed Pork Belly appetizer was the standout. The steak in the Steak Frites was a little chewy - everything else was perfect."

  • "Visited this restaurant for the first time and was impressed by the friendliness of the FOH and the delicious dinner we had. We started with the sardine filet, gnocchi carbonara, and butterhead lettuce salad. For mains we had the rabbit w/ orecchiete and scallops w/ mushroom duxelle. Everything was delicious and well-balanced. Ambience was great, lighting and music were at a comfortable level. What a treat for the neighborhood to have such a special place. "

  • "Dinner features quality dishes that are skillfully prepared and well presented. We enjoyed super fresh raw oysters from Wellfleet, Mass, and from Maine. Briny and delicious. Broccoli rabe starter salad had nice crunchy texture and very tasty; scallops and potato gnocchi close to divine; and ice cream sampler tasted homemade (probably is), super creamy and delicious. And it's BYOB!"

  • "Excellent service, food, and presentation. I ordered the monkfish; it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the trout and that was wonderful, too. We love this place and wish reservations and tables were more readily available. "

  • "A Toute Heure has an eclectic menu of great food and an unpretentious feel. The staff was knowledgeable and provided excellent service without being overbearing. It's BYOB, which allows you to spend your money on more delicious food! The atmosphere might be a bit crowded and loud for some folks but we enjoyed the rustic motif and lively ambiance. Great spot."
