A word from A Tavola
Farm to Table, Eclectic
Chef Vittorio Ettore, owner of Bistro 5 has opened a new Restaurant in Winchester. A Tavola, literally translates to “at the table”, an expression used in Italy as a dinner calling to gather everyone around the table to enjoy delicious food, and each other. Born to be the more casual sister restaurant to Bistro 5, A Tavola will be serving an eclectic Italian menu featuring “Piattini”. These small plates will be used to showcase an array of charcuterie, artisan cheeses, fish and vegetables, to pair perfectly with an exclusively Italian wine list. Additionally Chef will be offering unique catering options.

We have eaten at ATavola several
times and have always had a great meal. We like sitting at the "chef's table" where you can see the excellent quality of the food and the careful preparation. The antipasto for 2 was wonderful and the rigatoni bolognese is consistently excellent."

My husband and I went there to
celebrate our anniversary the other night. I have to admit that we were a little skeptical after viewing the reviews, but decided that we would give it a try. We were not disappointed. The food was outstanding; perfectly balanced flavors amongst the freshest ingredients. Not heavy or laden with garlic. Normal portions. My husband asked for a slight adjustment to his meal to which the chef substituted an ingredient to make the dish delectable! Service was just what we love; attentive, available and knowledgable. Very quaint and cozy as one would find in Italy. We tend to dine at Sorrelinas, Davios, and Grill 23 and Mooo, but decided to try local. Our new favorite place!"

Plenty of parkings in front. Very
small one room place with old old decor. Small but decent dishes. Service was very pleasant."
Dined on 3/1/2014
Clearly, there is a real chef with
a real vision at A Tavola. It wasn't enjoyable merely for the delicious food but for the choices of ingredients, textures, and flavor profiles that informed each dish."
Dined on 2/28/2014
Antipasto for two/risotto with
mussels and clams/EVOO cake - all really good. The rabbit pasta dish and the fluke special were also appreciated by my companions. And the wine choices were good value.,"
Dined on 2/21/2014
The food here is wonderful. Every
course was unique and delicious. The only drawback is the restaurant is quite small and you end up very close to those sitting next to you. It is sometimes easier to hear the person next to you over the one sitting across the table. Overall the food is definately worth the cramped quarters."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Love the all inclusive 3 course
with wine special great price and meal and wine"

Had reservations; hostess seemed
bewildered that there were no open tables and offered bar seats (which we declined). Received wine about 15 minutes after we were seated and then didn't get to order for over 45 min. Dinner not served for another 45 min. All people who came in after us were paying their checks and leaving before we received our entrees! Some food was good, some really prepared badly. My husband, who never once has complained about a restaurant meal actually couldn't eat his. The restaurant did comp him his entree. The waitress had never checked in with us once she served dinner. It was one of those rare nights when everything went wrong! But we wouldn't go there again"

The restaurant is great - highly
recommend! Food is fantastic & waitstaff knows their wine. Definitely fit for foodies!"

First time here. Needed convenient
to town hall but not a lot of time to linger as we were going to a show. Everything was perfect Great ambience and service and food delicious. They also contributed to charity event we were attending!"
Dined on 1/29/2014
This small and unpretentious
restaurant is surprisingly good. The menu is not huge but offers plenty of choices. The rabbit pappardelle was hearty although the cocoa pappardelle tasted like regular pappardelle The scallops were perfectly done. The bread was nicely rustic. The wines suggested by the waitress were excellent."
Dined on 1/25/2014
We visit A Tavola regularly for
the delicious and varied foods. Service is Always very prompt and thorough. Great wine list focused on Italian wines. Best restaraunt in winchester!"
Dined on 1/24/2014
This was our first time at A
Tavola and it won't be the last. The menu was original and interesting without being pretentious, the presentation was beautiful, the service was excellent, the ambiance was lively and the small size of the restaurant gave the experience a feeling of intimacy. To get the most out of the menu, we shared several piattini and appetizers, one main course and a dessert. It was all perfect!"
Dined on 1/23/2014
We tried out this restaurant on a
weeknight and it was fairly crowded (good thing we made a reservation!). Not too many tables. It is small and perfectly square-shaped, nice ambiance. The tables aren't very big so any appetizers and drinks need to be strategically placed so nothing falls over. We shared the antipasto plate which was more than ample. We were pleasantly surprised at how many it would serve...that along with oour wine and the bread could have easily been a meal. Service was ok. One waitress was a little unpolished but other than that....would return!"

I love this intimate restaurant in
Winchester. It feels like a little neighborhood restaurant in the city. The food is great as is the service. I have eaten here twice. The first time I sat at the small bar that overlooks the kitchen - and that was great fun as we could interact with the chef. Most recently we sat at a table near the window. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and had a delicious winter vegetable hash with it. Also love that their glasses of wine are served in a small carafe and are actually a glass and a half, which is often what I want with dinner. I definitely recommend it."
Dined on 1/15/2014
We are big fans of both A Tavola
and Bistro 5. The food is always delicious and without pretense. The atmosphere is comfortable and if you can, sit at the little bar by the kitchen so you can see the magic happen. I am a first generation Italian, so i know my way around real Italian food and these guys make me feel nostalgic for my nonna but also satisfy my foodie tastes."
Dined on 1/15/2014
as usual, a tavola is very, very,
good, and bisro 5 is superb"
Dined on 1/11/2014
Every time my husband and I go
here, we have a perfect experience. This time, we sat at the "bar" overlooking the kitchen and got to watch the chefs work their magic. We love the food and the service at A Tavola, can't wait to go back."

As always, this was a great visit.
It was a very quiet night, and the special was lobster!! My husband & I both ordered the special and we were not disappointed. The amount was just right, and the taste was tender & sweet. Our waitress was very friendly, but lacked an umph! Minor annoyance: We ordered a bottle of red wine. Waitress came back a few minutes later carrying 2 different bottles of wine because they ran out of the bottle we wanted. She said the 2 bottles she brought out were similar to our choice. She described each and we agreed to one of them. When the bill came, we were surprised that the bottle of wine was $20 more than our original choice. Perhaps our waitress should've also told us the price of the 2 substitutes....."

presentation and friendly service!"

When a friend came into town, I
wanted to find a special place to take her to dinner. I immediately thought of A Tavola. I've been several times, and never had anything but excellent experiences. Food is always superb, and interesting. Service top notch. They accomplish what many restaurants don't - they always feature interesting new items, concepts, seasonal specialties which make dining fun. But, they don't do it at the expense of keeping a nice selection of 'regulars' on the menu. This is very important to me as a diner - I want to KNOW they'll always have something I like, and can count on! Don't hesitate - make a reservation now through Open Table - it's easy, and you'll have a great meal!"

We booked a 5:30 reservation as we
were off to do holiday shopping, and enjoyed the quiet before the restaurant filled up around 6:30. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and the food delicious. The autumn salad with root vegetables was beautifully presented and very tasty. The shrimp dish, the evening special, was perfectly cooked and had a subtle saffron flavor. We love this restaurant."
Dined on 12/2/2013
great food and service, good
prices, portion size okay (not big enough to share), locally sourced, sustainable, creative menu"

It was our first visit to A Tabula
and we were totally pleased with the quality of the food and the friendly service. And this at reasonable prices."

Great local restaurant- excellent
food and service- friendly staff."

My husband and I had a gift
certificate to A Tavola and we were more than excited to cash it in. Thank goodness the food was incredible because our service was terrible! Our server split our bottle of wine all over me and barely apologized and couldn't wait for us to leave. Luckily, we loved the ambiance and the food and will give it another shot- but you can believe me we will be sure not to get the same server again!"
Dined on 11/16/2013
We are not. Familiar with
Winchester and were pleasantly surprised by this lovely little restaurant with wonderful food ! The bents part was there were not overwhelming portions.....just enough....we will be going again:)"
Dined on 11/16/2013
My husband and I are big fans of
Bistro Five, A Tavola's sister restaurant, but this was our first visit here. We really enjoyed it and will definitely plan to return. As advertised, the food and the ambiance are a little more casual than Bistro Five, and the prices are appropriately a little less expensive. Everything we had to eat was great. We shared a couple of the small plates (eggplant dip and duck prosciutto) and a simple green salad. We each had our own pasta. I had the mushroom one and my husband had the pumpkin gnocchi with braised rabbit. Both were delicious. Our waitress was fabulous. We asked her a few questions about the wine, and she offered to bring us three different samples."
Dined on 11/8/2013
I arrived there with my party of
four and from the outside it looked incredibly small so I wasn't too thrilled walking in. They called me prior saying there will be a wait for my reservation I made earlier that night which I found quite weird so when we arrived we had to wait about 10 minutes before being sat. The menu is quite limited and the food is sub par for the price of it. The ambiance reminds me of a restaurant right out of the North End in Boston. Small, loud, many people."
Dined on 11/9/2013
Was pleasantly surprised by A
Tavola - food was very good, although rather pricey. Would recommend for folks looking for a place to go for a special occasion."
Dined on 10/19/2013
The food was excellent, but not
your ordinary fare. The seats are hard, and the service was mixed."
Dined on 10/16/2013
Lots of gluten free options!! The
gluten free pasta w spinach -basil pesto was amazing!!"
Dined on 10/13/2013
We decided to try A Tavola on a
Saturday night @ 7 PM. Cozy & loud dining space. The table to my right was so close I could hear their conversation better than my conversation with my wife. The wait staff were warm & friendly. Menu selection was good and varied. Wine suggestion was right on. My Bolognese ragu w/ home made pasta was excellent as was the carrot soup appetizer. My wife's appetizer was an Autumn selection of fruits & veggies which she liked. Her main course was the "lightly smoked" pork. She loves pork but unfortunately, it was somewhat dry & flavorless. Too bad. When I asked her if she would be willing to try them again she said maybe midweek when it might not be so crowded and noisy. Try midweek."
Dined on 10/6/2013
The place is very small and thus
the selection list is equally small. The food is fresh and they try to do a little culinary spin. The vegetables were very nice along with a unique rabbit dish. They try to make it very nice, but then again it is a small 20 x 20 size room or so it seems. Usually this is a couples place or to meet an associate/friend. The only regrets is those really hard chairs. They really could use some type of padding, but a long walk after helps."
Dined on 9/28/2013
My husband and I have been to many
fine restaurants but this was outstanding! The owner grew up in Florence, Italy. Some of the menu items are his mother's recipe. We felt like we were judges on the Iron Chef of the Food Channel."
Dined on 9/28/2013
Great good, but in our past two
visits the service has left a lot yo be desired. I realize it gets busy, but shouldn't have to wait as long as we did to order, get a check, etc. there are restaurants at are equally good in this price range with service that reflects the higher prices and, where we don't live in Winchester, we won't be going back."
Dined on 9/28/2013
We had not even heard of A Tavola
till we had an unexpected free evening and I look on Open Table to find a good place to try. It was a terrific meal. My wife had the trout special which she was a little disappointed by, but the appetizers, my entrée (the chicken), and the dessert were all marvelous. It's a small space and feels a little crowded, but that's the only thing I could criticize. The service was friendly, the atmosphere nice, and the food excellent. I'm sure we'll be back soon."
Dined on 9/27/2013
A Tavola is one of my favorite
restaurants and we've always had great dinners there. We love sitting at the bar and watching the kitchen staff prepare the innovative dishes. This was our first weeknight visit and the restaurant's wine consultant introduced me to a wonderful Italian sparkling wine which I'll definitely buy for home. They make the best carbonara I've ever had and my only disappointment is that it's only been a special...it should be permanently added to the menu."
Dined on 9/26/2013
Small plates were excellent. Had
the roast pig -served in a dramatic fashion. Excellent!"
