A word from A Single Pebble
Located on Bank Street, just a short walk from Church Market Marketplace in Burlington. A Single Pebble is named after John Hersey's Novel - A story of young American engineer sent to China in the 1920s, to inspect the Yangtze River, a journey of his trip on a junk. A Single Pebble is serving classically creative Chinese Cuisine since 1997.

We proudly feature the unique flavors and qualities of each dish. Our culinary influences come from all of the regions of China and it's neighboring areas. From our delicately seasoned lighter fare to hearty " Comfort food" favorites, we use the freshest ingredients available -- many from local farmers.

Please come to join us for a fun family style eating experience, sharing a taste of this and that from our award-winning dishes placed on a revolving, red lacquer Lazy Susan.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our daughter picked a single pebble for her birthday dinner. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Burlington and I've always had great food and service. However, this time around our service was greatly lacking. Our server unfortunately had zero personality and barely checked in with us all night. We waited almost 15 mins for our order to be taken and with hungry kids and adults waiting, you know how that goes. I've always had great experiences with this restaurant but this time due to poor service it really affected our dinner. With the expectation nowadays for a 20% tip, you'd think servers would go above and beyond to make sure they interact with customers, especially when you know the bill will be substantial. Food was decent though."

  • "Good fresh food with proper spicing and mostly local vegetables."

  • "This is our second trip to this restaurant. This is the second time we have had terrible service. It is the kitchen, not the waitstaff, except the waitstaff didn't really rush to come back to check on us except to deliver dishes. We had a dish that we ordered in appetizer round, and it showed up as the final dish of the evening. It's too bad, because the food is really good."

  • "We celebrated a friend's birthday at A Single Pebble this week and it was an all around terrific experience. We loved our table in a window nook. Two people in our party have serious allergies - tree nuts and gluten - and our server did a wonderful job of steering them towards menu items that would be "safe." Our server was very knowledgeable about the food preparation and approached our table each and every time with a smile and great advice - all around great service. We finished the meal with candles in a dessert, which was also a sweet touch. Thanks so much for a fun birthday night out!"

  • "This isn't your Panda Express, chicken finger and crab rangoon type of Chinese/Asian. It's real and amazing. We rarely order off the menu since the specials are usually too good to pass up. We enjoy the family style eating and always have leftovers. With leftovers though I am certain we only get a portion of our leftovers because it's never as much as what was left on the dishes (they do them in the back so you cant see them fill the containers). Would also love to see Chinese/Asian inspired desserts. I find the dessert menu to be extremly lacking."

  • "This is by far the best Asian restaurant I have been to in a long time. My daughter lives in Burlington and she took me there on a recent visit. My favorite was the Mock Eel appetizer, but everything we ordered was amazing!"

  • "This is our favorite spot for dining in Burlington. We had a 6 pm reservation prior to an 8 pm Flynn performance and ordered the Tasting menu for 6 people. The service was prompt, efficient and friendly and we loved all the selections from the chef. There was great variety including two of our favorites, the marinated green beans and a cabbage and cucumber salad. We would not have ordered the mock eel on our own but that also turned out to be one of our favorite dishes. There was a battered shrimp dish that was delicate and cooked perfectly. The dishes came out in perfect timing and in perfect proportions for six people. The final dish was individual portions of tapioca and creme brulee and fresh fruit, a perfect ending to the meal."

  • "We had a lovely autentic dinner with lots of delicious and new courses. The ambience was top and we were able to bring our 6 months old baby"

  • "I love this restaurant. Although, the prices are starting to rise a little too much for my budget. Some of the food has also become too salty and another dish had way too much pepper on it. Other than that, this place is amazing."

  • "I traveled over an hour each way just to go to A Single Pebble over the past three weeks. We've had the sampler menu, chefs choice twice and this is spectacular. Gives you the opportunity to try dishes you probably wouldn't just order. Well prepared tasty dishes. Looking forward to trying the dim sum that is various dumplings brought by your table and you take one or not as they keep coming around with new options."

  • "My husband and I dined at a single pebble on a Thursday night and it was easy to get a table. On the weekends reservations are a must. Our favorite dishes were the Buddas delight, a vegetarian dish with seitan, and the eggplant starter. The ginger martini was also great. We didn't care for the red oil dumplings. As long time vegetarians it was nice to go into a restaurant where we had lots of choices and where those dishes were given as much thought as the meat based dishes. We definetly will be back."

  • "We have been coming here for years and it is always good. Great diversity of dishes with lots of veggies. Food comes out very quickly for everyone to share. My kids love it and they like the "lazy Susans" on the tables that spin the food to whoever wants it."

  • "This was our third dining experience at A Single Pebble and was just as wonderful as the the first time. We opted for family portion soup followed by several small plates that were packed with flavor. The faux eel is phenomenal. Excellent food and value. Highly recommend."

  • "We went for a birthday, and it was amazing. No wonder the Mock Eel was on the show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate. This place is not very suitable for children, as it is quiet."

  • "I went with a friend and we sat in the central, lower dining area. The acoustics were terrible and loud. We could barely hear each other talk or the waiter."

  • "Been here many times. The food is always exceptional. You can't go wrong with any of their specials, which change very frequently, nor can you really go wrong with anything on the menu. The mock eel is a must even if you don't like mushrooms as is the peking duck. On a budget and looking for a nice dining experience for a date or celebration? This place is perfect. They're always accommodating to special requests to sit in certain areas, when they can, and the service is always very attentive. Reservations are recommended, but the wait to sit at the bar hasn't ever been too long in cases where they've been booked up. Finally got a chance to use up my Open Table points for a $50 gift check and Single Pebble accepted it without issue. "

  • "We asked the waiter to bring the small plate of mock eel first and the entrees later. However, everything arrived at once. The Buddah Beef with Seitan was delicious and well made. The Mock Eel was a little too salty and dry. The Lemon Sesame Shrimp which is my favorite was delicious although I remember it coming with a lot more lemony noodles than this time. There were hardly a spoonful for each of us. The shrimp are fresh and good size. The food is good, but remember it as outstanding. My special Birthday place. "

  • "Green beans excellent. Otherwise just average except for dumplings which were dense and gluggy. We ate here last year with okay satisfaction but would now not return. "

  • "Wonderful meal as always!! We ate here the night before our wedding, as it is our favorite restaurant in Burlington! Thank you Misa for superb service as usual also! I get the priviledge of dining here twice a year with work travel, and it is always a high point of my travels."

  • "The food is wonderful, but the sauces are what make the food truly outstanding. The scallion pancakes are fantastic by themselves but when dipped in the ginger dipping sauce they are out of this world. Also, the dim sum, when paired with the chili or mustard sauce, were sublime (a little more chili sauce, please!) The kitchen staff was happy to prepare a chicken dish that is a favorite of my wife's that was not on the menu that evening ."

  • "Manager at desk was friendly & on her game. She never stopped working or helping out the entire night. Service was perfect as was the food. The server assistant (young man) never let our water get below half and was there for every dirty dish. I love dining here and the staff works harder than any New York city restaurant. Wish I lived closer I would go there alot more!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience at A Single Pebble, we made a reservation to be sure to get in on time, and I'm glad we did. They became busy very quickly. It was a perfect way to celebrate my grandmothers 80 birthday, she is hard to impress when it comes to dining out, but A Single Pebble passed with flying colors! She's raved about the food and already planning our next trip! "

  • "I had read all the great reviews so figured it was going to be good but I was impressed by everything. Service was great and the food was fantastic."

  • "Very enjoyable the few times we've visited and we will be going back again. The waitstaff is very professional, not in your face or over the top which we appreciate. They also work together as a team which is how every restaurant should serve, a good dining experience will being people back so if you have to check in on a table that's not yours, consider it an investment for the future. We tried one of the specials, beef tip basil something or other where the beef was from a local farm, Platt I believe. It was incredible, well seasoned, colorful, hot, fresh and a little bit of a kick which my wife and I enjoyed. We also tried the sesame dumplings which had a nice flavor and of course we had the mock--eel which is a must-have if you go."

  • "During Burlington's Restaurant week I got to celebrate by eating out at A Single Pebble. It was fun the food was great and it was a new experience as I have never had so many dishes in one evening. It was the chef's special (vegetarian or non). Each dish had unique flavors and textures that are unlike anything I've ever had."
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "The food here is always exquisite. We had the Restaurant Week tasting menu for two. Standouts included tangerine chicken redolent with citrus; crispy beef shank - imagine a piece of the most tender and delicious beef stew, surrounded by a crust - out of this world; even the rare tuna, a dish I don't really care for, I have to admit was bursting with wonderful flavors. This is the place I choose for my birthday every year and every special occasion."

  • "Went for restaurant week (tasting menu with meat $35.) It was an interesting combination of dishes, starting with a stir fried egg plant. I also enjoyed the crab cake and the seared tuna. I would try some of the spicy dishes next time or other veggie ones. "

  • "We had a spectacular time with family & friends. We've been here several times before, and have never been disappointed. The method of serving (lazy susan in center of table where food is brought as it is ready, not timed for all to eat simultaneously) and the menu are authentic to their origin and the flavors are perfect! The staff knows the menu, can make suggestions for guests not familiar (as we had a few that night), and was attentive to the environment (offered to open window before we had a chance to ask) as well as other needs. Portions are perfect for sharing but if you want something all for yourself it's not a problem either. Not your typical Chinese food restaurant- in a class of it's own!"

  • "Such a unique place in our community, which really promotes the act of sharing food and bonding over a meal! Restaurant week was this week and we went blindly into the multiple course menu-- not a single one disappointed. All of the food was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and we received generous portions. Service is friendly and very professional. Definitely on my list of special occasion places, only because I don't live in Burlington-- if I did, I would be there weekly :)"

  • "Single Pebble continues to delight with well thought out Asian food that is as close and authentic to the Asian soul that one will find in New England. We are never disappointed in what is prepared for us on any given night. Lunches though is where the real gem is shown; the tasting menu is the heart of the matter. Service was off this night; our waiter failed to ask me what I would like to see on our table and when alerted to this oversight became churlish the remainder of our stay."

  • "we come here whenever we are in Burlington and always have a great time with the most amazing food we go to the chef menu and have never been disappointed what a great place"

  • "A Single Pebble was a wonderful dinging experience. The food is all served family style and the cuisine is both inventive and a nod to traditional Chinese cooking. There were a ton of specials that were all delicious and the mock eel (mushrooms) were a favorite even by people who did not normally eat mushrooms. The service was quick and informative about all the dishes and sensitive to allergies. This is a must go to restaurant when in Burlington. "

  • "We had our Easter dinner here and it was an excellent treat. I have been to A Single Pebble many times but never for their Dim Sum. The Dim Sum was a treat for the family and the children love how they kept bringing dishes to our table. "

  • "This was our second meal dining at a Single Pebble. The first time it was just two of us. This time, we wised up and brought two family members with us, and the meal was fantastic. Plenty of different tastes to try. We each picked our favorite dish and shared with the table. A wonderful experience."
