A word from A Piece of Havana
Awww ... Cuba! Just a mere thought will have your hips swiveling in time to the rich mambo beat, which is only intensified if you happen to be drinking a sweet, rum-soaked mojito. Thinking about jumping a plane to Miami? No need! A Piece of Havana brings the Cuban flavor to your Charlotte stomping grounds.

We reward our guests by combining the native Siboney staples of corn, peanuts, and yucca with the Spanish accents of rice and olive oil. Alongside relocated Floridian Cubans, Belkis and Juan Plasencia, is a chef who together create garlic and herb-infused delights of the empanadas, moros y cristianos (black beans mixed with white rice), and of course the classic Cuban sandwich. Feel free to take full advantage of the take-out and coffee-to-go bar and drop by for live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Being our Guest is caliente!

  • "This place was something new for me and my friends and an absolute pleasure for us . We had never had Cuban food before but because of this restaurant we are hooked. The food was delicious, the band was great, the waitress were very helpful but the only suggestion was that their website needs to be updated with their sitting for available tables because the website said they had available tables but when we got there they did not, but the hostess apologize and we had to sit at the bar but not for too long. I would highly recommend this place and we will be back again when we are in town."

  • "I'm very familiar with Cuban food and can attest to it authenticity. The '"congri'' was excellent, and so was the "vaca frita." The mojitos were good. also. We went on a Saturday night and they had live music. The music was also very good. I enjoyed the food and the ambiance. I will return and recommend the restaurant. Thanks for keeping it real. It's hard to find good Cuban food outside Miami."

  • "Its seemed the waitress had no idea what she was doing. Their was four of us. First I ordered a platter that they had on the menu that it was for two people and she told us that they don't have everything that is on that platter so se couldn't order it. Ridiculous! We ordered our food and she came back twice to comfirm what we ordered. When we got our food their was stuff missing. We ordered extra fries and yucca. Those never came. We let her know that we would still like the yucca but not the fries. She said ok but we still never got the yucca. I ordered a mimosa and what I got was pineapple juice. When we received our check she had on there the items we never received so she had to fix that also. Not a good expierence at all."

  • "So we decided to give this place a third chance but as I suspected it was a "Third Strike"! To begin our evening, the beef turnover (empanada) we ordered was frozen in the middle. When we mentioned it to the server she acted as if she didn't care. We got the turnover after our meal arrived and she didn't bother to apologize. Once our meal arrived, we realized that that this visit wouldn't be any different from our previous ones... My wife had the oxtail and I had the skirt steak. The oxtail was tough. The sauce was also a dark black as if it was burnt. The red beans had a watery broth. They left the bay leaves in our beans (big no no )since we each had at least 2-3 leaves in our beans. Uninspiring food. We will not return!"

  • "My party of 4 went with the goal to dance and have a few drinks on a Friday night. We had some awesome Mojitos and Margaritas with some very tasty Cuban appetizer platters. The empenadas were so full and flavorful! I truly wanted to have a full dinner however we came for the dancing and drinks tonight. It was a real treat. The culture is true to it's Cuban origins from the service staff down to the authentic Cuban band playing in the center dining area. This place is a real hidden gem in the South Charlotte area."

  • "I am a second gen Cuban American and I wanted to share this with my Cuban father! When we arrived there were several over long tables set in front of the music, as if they were expected two large parties. The normal furniture was extended by very cheap looking folding tables and chairs. We didn't get offered drinks until we finally flagged a server down. There were many servers congregating together outside the kitchen. When we finally ordered, our meals were inconsistent. The chicken Hemingway was really dry, no sauce. The chicken Barcadi is a tasteless chicken breast on top of pasta Alfredo. We asked for extra Alfredo sauce which arrived more than ten minutes later. The empanadas, mariquitas, and Ropa Vieja were good. Music was good."

  • "This is a Cuban restaurant but the food was more South American (Argentinian). Not bad but a little bland for Latin tastes, but this far North I guess it is to be expected, not authentic Cuban for sure. The service was inconsistent, slow and he forgot my drink order completely and had to be reminded several times for other items, it seemed just to be our server as others seemed to be quite attentive to their patrons. The live music was wonderful and added the right atmosphere to the place. We would return just for the music."

  • "This was a disaster. Nothing on the menu was available. Didn't have ox tail stew, Cuban or miami sandwich or meatballs for the spaghetti. We even called to ensure they still had spaghetti and meatballs (very picky child eater). I will never dine here again. The server was the worse. We never got a refill and he never checked on us. We had to ask a hostesses for our check and pay with her. Just terrible."

  • "We chose this restaurant for this year's office party. We have a colleague who plays in the jazz band on Friday nights. It was a wonderful setting, with delicious authentic food. The music was delightful and just the thing to put you in the holiday spirit. Everyone complimented the night and have requested to do it again next year. Perfect for an evening out!"

  • "The food here was completely underwhelming. I got some sort of chicken with plantains and yellow rice with vegetable. It was SO mediocre, I cannot even begin to describe. If I wanted a piece of chicken the size of my face with a pile of fried onions on it, I would just make it myself. This is NOT a place for foodies."

  • "A Picece of Havana is a great place for yummy Cuban food, delicious (adult) beverages and good local entertainment. Don't let the location fool you. Park. Go inside and enjoy. My family and I plan to visit often."

  • "The service was very good, always available when needed and friendly. I had vaca frita, which is supposed to be beef that has been boiled and then grilled but it was very greasy. I chose ripe plantain/maduros and black beans, the beans were great and the 4 pieces of maduro were tasty but scarce. My husband had mahi filet which was mostly good with fried yuca (he got only 3 pieces!) and congris (beans and rice mixed) which was good. Their cuban coffee is really tasty. The music was very good, the band went on until 10pm and then the dj mixed music, about 50 per cent latin, a lot of fun! I wouldn't recommend what I ate this time but their Ajiaco soup is to die for. I'd recommed it for latin music lovers."

  • "The food was good but far short of what Cuban cuisine is like. Not that I expected it to be like the ones in Miami, but I expected better. I would definitely recommend it and I will go back, but not any time soon."

  • "If you love seafood paella, you need to go to A Piece of Havana. Having tried the paella at all of the Spanish restaurants in Charlotte, I can say without a doubt that this Cuban restaurant serves the best Valencia-style paella in Charlotte. My wife, who lived in Spain during her teens and whose father is from Spain, wanted to have a large paella for her father's 80th birthday celebration. After some web searching, we found A Piece of Havana. We went to try out the paella in the restaurant prior to buying a large amount for the party, and it was fantastic. We also tried the yuca, the tostones, and black beans. Everything was excellent, and, yes, we did order the large paella for the party - which was also excellent. Everyone loved it."

  • "This is really good restaurant tucked away in a strip mall. Food/ambiance very good, very authentic. Service pretty good, waiter very attentive at first but towards end of meal sort of ignored us. No one waiting so we didn't feel we had to rush out. Very open restaurant so little noisy but not annoying. Music started at 7 and was nice touch, not overbearing. Would definitely go back."

  • "This is my 3rd visit to this restaraunt and have not been let down once. The food is awesome and the service is just as great. If you are thinking about dining here I would definitely say give them a try. Do not forget to try out the Sangria, it is the best around."
