We've been to A la Maison several times because it was a great taste of French bistro food, but learned that we should only go there if we had loads of time. This visit was a real change. Fully staffed and servers who actually seemed to connect with customers (rather than the ones they used to have who tried to live up to French reputations of coldness and superiority). Whatever else you get, go for the pot au crème -- it's a like eating the essence of dark chocolate.

Hadn't been here in a couple of years. Found the noise level greatly reduced to quite comfortable. Cuisine is solid bistro fare, ample, very well prepared and seasoned. A gluten allergy was knowledgeably and comfortably accommodated. Worth bringing one or two of one's better bottles... Will return soon and often.

Although the food tasted good, the portion of food was small. I ordered the french onion soup for my appetizer, which tasted good, portion size was bigger than a cup, but smaller than a bowl. Had I not ordered an appetizer, I would have really been in trouble. For my main entree, I ordered the trout amandine, which again, tasted good but was probably the smallest entree portion I've ever been served in a restaurant. Priced at $28, the amount of food was completely disproportionate to the price. My husband ordered the trout, as well. He has dietary restrictions & food allergies, which he thoroughly went over with our server. The chef completely disregarded this & used ingredients in the food preparation that we told our server he could not eat. Our server was pleasant, but took no ownership of the way the food was prepared, casually stating,"I told the chef he couldn't eat this." My husband was so hungry after the scant portion of trout that he ate a second basket of bread. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Restaurant is warm and inviting. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Very difficult to read the menu. Bring your reading glasses and flashlight. Bouillabaisse was excellent. Lots of meaty mussels, scallops etc.. Plain crusty bread would have been fine for dipping in the broth. Lose the topping.

Given it had started snowing, and i am not a local, the restaurant was hard to find. The young lady answering the phone came out back to make sure i found the place...which was so incredibly nice of her. The inside was very cozy and intimate. i did not realize it was BYOB so appreciated the complimnetary glass of wine. My beet salad was very good. The bouillibase was good - would have liked a bit more flavor of lobster in the stock. But it was plenty of food and hit the spot as it was a crummy evening outside. The string quartet playing in the restaurant was a wonderful touch. Service was for the most part, quite good i hope my daughter goes to college there. i would love to return

This is a solid but not spectacular restaurant. The food is well prepared but lacks the sophistication and subtlety that should be delivered at these prices. How does $38 for scallops sound? We are way above Bibou territory here for food that while solid is not in the same league. We wanted to like this place as good weekday spots on the Main Line are hard to find but sadly it"s crossed off our list.

This was our second time at A la Maison, and we were not disappointed. We sat at a lovely cozy window table in the front bar area, which was much more intimate and quieter than the main dining room. My beet salad was delicious, and the bouillabaisse was as good as any I have eaten in France. It was a very large portion, and my husband and friends gladly finished what I couldn't. My husband really enjoyed his pate and the dinner special chicken cordon bleu. My friend loved her salmon entre. Dessert was excellent but we were too full to really eat much of it. We had a wonderful evening of excellent food and conversation. The fact that this is a BYOB was an added bonus. We definitely will return.

We are never disappointed when we dine at A la Maison. It is a charming, white cloth but informal neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious and always perfectly prepared. Portions are generous and menu is fairly priced. Service is friendly, attentive but non-intrusive. Importantly, the noise level is contained so that you can have a conversation with your dinner companions without shouting!! It is a BYO. We love this place, recommend to our friends and look forward to returning often.

After having many lunches here, we finally tried it for dinner. The food--moules frites, boeuf--was excellent, and our server was affable, knowledgeable, and attentive. Two minor problems prevented the meal from being perfect: The chairs are not particularly comfortable, and the hard-surfaced walls could use some sound-dampening hangings, especially when young children are being introduced to the pleasures of French cuisine.

The staff was really wonderful even making sure I had parked in an appropriate spot so I would not get towed. The cheese plate was wonderful and the salad large and tasteful. The entree courses were delicious for everyone at our party. Our waitress was super friendly and not overbearing. The romantic setting was cozy but hopping with an older crowd that you could tell appreciated the food. There were also families here. Overall I would recommend this restaurant.

This is one of our favorite places for special occasions. The food is typically very good to exceptional - always very enjoyable. The wait staff are very friendly and appropriately attentive. The only possible downside is that it is BYO - they say that folks often like to bring their own special bottle, which is true, but I also enjoy trying a glass of something new. Regardless, we'll be back.

The food is not what it once was. The French onion soup is very good but the rest of our entrees and appetizers were too bland, no garlic, no pepper, few herbs. The chef appears to be catering to the palates of the Irish and the nursing home crowd. But the place is packed so I appear to be in the minority.

We joined our friends for a birthday celebration but were very disappointed with our dinner entrees. The French onion soup was good, the salad was acceptable and the desserts were good. However, the Rainbow trout special was dry and tasteless and the duck breast was chewy, not tender. We would not nor recommend it to anyone.

This was our first visit and we will be back. A beautiful, simple, elegant dining room, tables to fit any size group. Absolutely fantastic service, Jessica truly loved the food on the menu and couldn't wait to help us make our selections. Cheeses, mussels, entrees and dessert, everything we had was excellent, high quality, nice presentation, well paced, it was a Monday night but they were almost full, we enjoyed a quiet table for two and the french music in the background was just right for conversation. When our bill arrived and we were told the creme brulet was on the house because this was our first visit, we were blown away, $9 dessert. Highly recommend a la maison, its just a Fantastic Original French BYOB!

It can get a bit loud towards the back of the restaurant but I had requested a table closer to the window and we got seated right by the window which made our evening even more special. Service was friendly and efficient, and the receptionist was very helpful when we had difficulty finding the place. but, alas, the food was poor for the most part, and very expensive for what it was. My wife's snails were overcooked hard little lumps. Our "braised" duck legs were stewed rather than braised and the red wine jus was non-existent, while the mushroom risotto had all of five shreds of mushrooms in it. The blueberry crepe for dessert was cold and hard and just rolled around raw blueberries. At $32 each for the duck, the check was far too high for the nature of the place and the standard of the cooking.

The menu is consistent and always good. The specials are always very good and something to look forward to. The attention to quality and detail is very refreshing considering todays restaurant scene of get them in, get them out and sloppy service.
