My friend and I went for lunch a few days ago and had a delightful meal. She had a cheese omelette, I had a mushroom crepe and both were delicious. The accompanying green salads were perfect and the French fries were great. And how nice that it is still a BYOB!

After having many lunches here, we finally tried it for dinner. The food--moules frites, boeuf--was excellent, and our server was affable, knowledgeable, and attentive. Two minor problems prevented the meal from being perfect: The chairs are not particularly comfortable, and the hard-surfaced walls could use some sound-dampening hangings, especially when young children are being introduced to the pleasures of French cuisine.

The staff was really wonderful even making sure I had parked in an appropriate spot so I would not get towed. The cheese plate was wonderful and the salad large and tasteful. The entree courses were delicious for everyone at our party. Our waitress was super friendly and not overbearing. The romantic setting was cozy but hopping with an older crowd that you could tell appreciated the food. There were also families here. Overall I would recommend this restaurant.

This is one of our favorite places for special occasions. The food is typically very good to exceptional - always very enjoyable. The wait staff are very friendly and appropriately attentive. The only possible downside is that it is BYO - they say that folks often like to bring their own special bottle, which is true, but I also enjoy trying a glass of something new. Regardless, we'll be back.

The food is not what it once was. The French onion soup is very good but the rest of our entrees and appetizers were too bland, no garlic, no pepper, few herbs. The chef appears to be catering to the palates of the Irish and the nursing home crowd. But the place is packed so I appear to be in the minority.

We joined our friends for a birthday celebration but were very disappointed with our dinner entrees. The French onion soup was good, the salad was acceptable and the desserts were good. However, the Rainbow trout special was dry and tasteless and the duck breast was chewy, not tender. We would not nor recommend it to anyone.

My lady and I had a great time here on a friday night at 8:30, with great food, great service. I had the fillet with shrimp, she had the duck breast and we started with the bucheron cheese plate. Everything was well prepared and served at a good pace. I'd recommend this spot for date night and dinners with friends.

This was our first visit and we will be back. A beautiful, simple, elegant dining room, tables to fit any size group. Absolutely fantastic service, Jessica truly loved the food on the menu and couldn't wait to help us make our selections. Cheeses, mussels, entrees and dessert, everything we had was excellent, high quality, nice presentation, well paced, it was a Monday night but they were almost full, we enjoyed a quiet table for two and the french music in the background was just right for conversation. When our bill arrived and we were told the creme brulet was on the house because this was our first visit, we were blown away, $9 dessert. Highly recommend a la maison, its just a Fantastic Original French BYOB!

Everything from the bread to the dessert was good. I ordered the beet salad, the bouillabaisse and profiteroles for dessert; they were all excellent. Service was great and very attentive . It can get a bit loud towards the back of the restaurant but I had requested a table closer to the window and we got seated right by the window which made our evening even more special. I would go back again and again.

Service was friendly and efficient, and the receptionist was very helpful when we had difficulty finding the place. but, alas, the food was poor for the most part, and very expensive for what it was. My wife's snails were overcooked hard little lumps. Our "braised" duck legs were stewed rather than braised and the red wine jus was non-existent, while the mushroom risotto had all of five shreds of mushrooms in it. The blueberry crepe for dessert was cold and hard and just rolled around raw blueberries. At $32 each for the duck, the check was far too high for the nature of the place and the standard of the cooking.

Enjoyed a fabulous Croque Madame (in fact, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had anywhere) at brunch here last Saturday--every bite of the very generously-sized sandwich was delectable. Wonderful mix of lean but flavorful ham, perfectly melted Gruyere and a fried egg on a delicious Brioche. Nice French Provincial atmosphere without being overbearing or pretentious.

It is hard to find a restaurant that is consistently way above average. A la Maison is one. You can't say enough about the consistent very good food and high caliber service. The menu is consistent and always good. The specials are always very good and something to look forward to. The attention to quality and detail is very refreshing considering todays restaurant scene of get them in, get them out and sloppy service.

Heard this place was great, guess we hit it on a very OFF night. Owner was less than excited to see us when we were greeted. Ordered an arugula salad and was served chicory NOT arugula which was extremely bitter. The Bouillabaisse broth was very bland and the mussels were definitely NOT fresh, extremely small and shriveled. My wife ordered the lamb chops which were cooked the correct temperature but extremely tough. We left most of our food on the plate because it was inedible and the staff did not notice or make a comment.

This was a special event. Owner Ted Miller organizes many of these special events, they are prix fixe and have always been outstanding. While the 5 course dinner prix fixe was not inexpensive, i was clearly worth it! They served up fabulous Grand Cru & Premier Cru wines with the dishes they presented. Delicious wine/food pairing. Fun. Restaurants in the burbs get so stale! Unchanging menus/formats. It's refreshing that they mix up their offerings at A La Maison.

Given the nice weather we decided to sit outside, other than noisy traffic, we were happy with the choice. Mussels were disappointing, the usual Maison sauce lacked taste, don't think I'll order it again, was once a favorite. My husband enjoyed his steak & frites...the frites there are always great! Another favorite dish there is the trout, next time I'll try that again. Service was very nice, enjoyable evening.

We've been here a couple of times, and it's rapidly becoming our favorite multi-course, multi-hour dining experience in Philadelphia. All four of us were completely stuffed at the end, but all of the food was well-prepared. Special mention to the pea soup, but the steak course was melt-in-your-mouth good also. Every course was very good. The location is convenient -- would be great if they had an outdoor space, but with Lancaster Ave at the front and a big parking lot in back, it's tough to imagine how they could make that happen.
