Diner Reviews
  • "A great BYOB. Everything we've ever had has been great. From their delicious crusty baguette and homemade ketchup with French fries to the mushroom risotto. You can have a light delicious salad, a sandwich, or a lovely entree. They are versatile and everything is great. Wonderful and pleasant staff as well."

  • "Overall an excellent neighborhood gem- only criticism is the tables are packed together so there is not much room."

  • "We are at A la Maison Bistro on a Friday evening and really enjoyed it. The food was wonderful! The duck gets 5 stars and the salmon 4. The duck pate and cheeses were also wonderful! Our server was friendly but not too intrusive. The ambience was great for a Friday night dinner. What I loved is that despite having such excellent French food, the environment did not feel pretentious at all. We would definitely return and recommend the restaurant to friends."

  • "Popped in for an amazing business lunch on Wednesday. If you miss ordering the crepes then you miss out on some of the best French presentation the Main Line has to offer. Quite simply - the rich and indulgent food, exceptionally considerate service, and terrific execution from the kitchen team you would expect in a fine French bistro. Finding it on the Main Line ... even better!"

  • "The most delicious French food. It is so wonderful to find a place like this. The Mussels were wonderful."

  • "The food was ok but too expensive for what it was. There was nothing special about the food or the restaurant that would warrant a return visit. The service was good. My view is the restaurant continues to survive because there is nothing else like it nearby."

  • "We celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary here, and wanted to do a French restaurant since we won't get back to Paris any time soon! The food was eclectic and fresh. Service was outstanding. Great BYOB."

  • "We really like this place, the food is perfectly seasoned, and the portions are correct. It can get a little noisily is family groups appear..but you can still hear yourself think We spend a little more at this byob, but we are never disappointed"

  • "We celebrated a family birthday here for dinner on a Wed night and loved it. The steak frites - was exceptional as was the trout almondine. The serving size was reasonable so we also enjoyed the profiteroles which were to die for. If you enjoy a warm, comfortable ambience, outstanding food and great service- visit this restaurant. We will definitely be back."

  • "a recent lunch for 3 of us was outstanding - salads are exceptional - chicken and risotto was excellent. And service was excellent, although there were sadly very few patrons in the restaurant on a Friday."

  • "good food, a little buttery but I guess that is what French food is all about. Very attentive and pleasant wait staff."

  • "4 of us had dinner on a Friday night and 3 out of the 4 found the food to be good and mine, the brook trout, was excellent. The others had the beef bourguignon and chicken cordon bleu. One in our party ordered a salad in addition to his entree but the salad never arrived. When informed at the conclusion of our entrees, the waitress brought a free dessert which was a nice thing to do, but what happened to that salad. Overall the noise level is much better than it used to be and the place is quite charming with quite decent food, some of which is outstanding."

  • "Had a delightful meal here with my mom and sister for a girl's night this past Saturday! Everything was great - food, service, ambiance. We didn't bring any wine so the manager came over with a glass of champagne for each of us, assuming we had forgotten our beverages which was so thoughtful and just added to a great experience."

  • "A la Maison is a great concept in a great location and space -- a charming French bistro amid the shops of Ardmore, offering fine French cuisine. Unfortunately, I always leave there a bit disappointed, and Valentine's Day was no exception. The food was fine, but the service was horrid. The waiter -- when he bothered to stop by -- always seemed rushed and disinterested in us or the food, and had no ability to pronounce the French offerings, putting in doubt the authenticity of the entire affair. Only at the end of the meal, when we asked, were we told of the complimentary champagne and wine, which were part of the fixed price menu (which no one told us about when we made the reservation). We were offered the same amuse buche (sp?) twice"

  • "The food is really good. I brought a friend from Germany who was here on business. He travels a great deal. His notable comment was "much more enjoyable than the high end places he generally gets taken to on expense accounts""

  • "We went for the cassoulet that is served every Tuesday during the cold winter months. It was delicious as was the pear and goat cheese tart and the mousse truffle appetizers. All pastries are prepared on site and the cheesecake, unusual for a French restaurant, was to die for. Being a BYOB, the entire magnificent meal was very reasonable. The decor is a comfortable country French that is not overdone. I have already recommended it to several friends and we will definitely return."

  • "We made a last-minute reservation for 2 for Saturday night. True to form, this restaurant always honors special table requests, even though our reservation for last-minute. The food was perfectly prepared, delicious, inventive, service was excellent, attentive not overly intrusive. The ambiance - low-level lighting is warm and comfy on a cold night - made for a romantic dinner. Nice."

  • "For some reason, we had not been back to "A la Maison Bistro" and four of us went on Friday nice. Everything was delicious! The salads, the duck, the chicken, the pork.. and the desserts. And our waitress was positively lovely- friendly but very professional. This time I won't wait so long to return."

  • "We took our daughter to A La Maison in Ardmore for lunch on a Thursday to celebrate her birthday. It was lovely - perfect for our situation. The staff was very attentive, the food was delicious, the decor quite appropriate for a French cafe - a refreshing change from our regular routine. I would not hesitate to recommend this to others."

  • "You remember when restaurant owners were more devoted to quality than just the quantity of diners? Remember when restaurants weren't so much a business, but more of a love of customer service. Well, this one remembers and excels in quiet, unassuming, but great menu and customer service! Never be ashamed to bring a first date here! Guaranteed sympatico!"

  • "I had a very nice meal for my anniversary. We started with Creole Mussels and Pate, both very good. I had the Steak Frittes (excellent) and my wife the beef bourguignon (succulent). I finished with the Creme Brulee, very nice, and my wife the bread pudding. Very good."

  • "We were rushed the entire evening. When you are out on a holiday with friends you want to socialize. This year we were rushed for our order. We had to ask the waiter for additional time to make a meal decision. We arrived at 6:00 PM for a table of 4 and were out at 8:40 PM. Around, 8:20 PM the hostess casually came buy the table glancing at our party. About 7-8 minutes later she again returned with the same gestures. We were not sure what the issue was, then about 5 additional minutes later she was back. This time the hostess didn't just walk by but stopped and stared at us. If there was a time restriction this year we should have been informed. The shame is that the food was good but the rushed service will keep us from returning."

  • "Our first time at A La Maison for New Year's - have attended other prix fixe events here, and they have always been great. The food was excellent. The one problem, a big one, was that the wait staff brought all the courses too fast. For a minute I thought they were trying to get our table of 4 out the door in an hour, and this for a 5-course meal. Once we got to the main entree, they let us slow down... they also were clearing the table before all diners were done, and we had to ask them not to. Next time we attend a prix fixe here, we will make our preference concerning pacing between courses clear at the outset. I think it was just being busy on New Year's Eve, and the kitchen was kicking stuff out. Fast."
