Diner Reviews
  • "Great food. Friendly, attentive service. Escargot delicious, moule frites equally terrific. Filet done perfectly with tasty Bernaise sauce. Cheese board a special treat as we'll. Bring your favorite bottle of Champagne or wine. Fun night out on the main drag in Ardmore."

  • "Consistently excellent food and service with reasonable prices."

  • "Enjoyed a fabulous Croque Madame (in fact, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had anywhere) at brunch here last Saturday--every bite of the very generously-sized sandwich was delectable. Wonderful mix of lean but flavorful ham, perfectly melted Gruyere and a fried egg on a delicious Brioche. Nice French Provincial atmosphere without being overbearing or pretentious."

  • "It is hard to find a restaurant that is consistently way above average. A la Maison is one. You can't say enough about the consistent very good food and high caliber service. The menu is consistent and always good. The specials are always very good and something to look forward to. The attention to quality and detail is very refreshing considering todays restaurant scene of get them in, get them out and sloppy service."

  • "Service was slow but there seemed to be only one waitress. And it didn't matter for us..."

  • "Nicely decorated, courteous service, thoughtful menu and specials, delicious food. But two hours for four to dine -- quite long on a relatively slow night. Overall a good experience at a neighborhood gem."

  • "The food was terrific and the service was top notch. When my husband filet came out and was not quite right, they immediately made it right, were very sincere in their apologies and the replacement was out of this world. We have been there many times and have never been disappointed."

  • "great food and wine dinner. Second time at this restaurant both times were very good."

  • "Heard this place was great, guess we hit it on a very OFF night. Owner was less than excited to see us when we were greeted. Ordered an arugula salad and was served chicory NOT arugula which was extremely bitter. The Bouillabaisse broth was very bland and the mussels were definitely NOT fresh, extremely small and shriveled. My wife ordered the lamb chops which were cooked the correct temperature but extremely tough. We left most of our food on the plate because it was inedible and the staff did not notice or make a comment."

  • "Wonderful French bistro BYO on the mainline, decor is reminiscent of Paris. Hearty bistro selections, causal atmosphere, attentive (but not overly) service. One of my favorites."

  • "This was a special event. Owner Ted Miller organizes many of these special events, they are prix fixe and have always been outstanding. While the 5 course dinner prix fixe was not inexpensive, i was clearly worth it! They served up fabulous Grand Cru & Premier Cru wines with the dishes they presented. Delicious wine/food pairing. Fun. Restaurants in the burbs get so stale! Unchanging menus/formats. It's refreshing that they mix up their offerings at A La Maison."

  • "great restaurant I loved the salad and the salmon dish with lentels."

  • "Given the nice weather we decided to sit outside, other than noisy traffic, we were happy with the choice. Mussels were disappointing, the usual Maison sauce lacked taste, don't think I'll order it again, was once a favorite. My husband enjoyed his steak & frites...the frites there are always great! Another favorite dish there is the trout, next time I'll try that again. Service was very nice, enjoyable evening."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Interesting menu specials, fresh ingredients. An all-around good experience. Our server, Roseann, was delightful. Will certainly return."

  • "Our waiter was very attentive, but the dinner was a little disappointing. I had brunch here once and it was vey good so maybe I was expecting too much."

  • "We took my father to A la Maison Bistro - what a find! We all enjoyed the items on the brunch table, as well as the food that we ordered to accompany the brunch choices. The food was extremely well-prepared and delicious. The service was extremely attentive. The atmosphere was quaint. Parking in the back lot was very convenient. This will become one of our regular restaurant choices!"

  • "We've been here a couple of times, and it's rapidly becoming our favorite multi-course, multi-hour dining experience in Philadelphia. All four of us were completely stuffed at the end, but all of the food was well-prepared. Special mention to the pea soup, but the steak course was melt-in-your-mouth good also. Every course was very good. The location is convenient -- would be great if they had an outdoor space, but with Lancaster Ave at the front and a big parking lot in back, it's tough to imagine how they could make that happen."

  • "My husband and I had a marvelous dinner at A La Maison. Everything we had was just amazing - the cheese plate, the steak frites and the halibut special and the desserts...yum....."

  • "A La Maison is a wonderful French restaurant like you would find in a neighborhood in Paris. Not at all pretentious - just very good food ranging from seafood, which is a specialty, to delicious pates, nice cheeses, fantastic desserts and divine coffee (La Colombe). Best of all, it is a BYOB, so you can bring your favorite wine!!"

  • "Wonderful food, outstanding service and great ambience.....special live French music.....as good as any French food I've had in New York (including Les Halles)....a little on the expensive side, but certainly more than worth it.....if you love good French food and a full menu, you'll love this place"

  • "We went to a special night with music and a Prix Fix menu. It was wonderful. The musicians were so talented and the food was delicious. We always have a great meal here and this time was no exception. My favorite special place. "

  • "We arrived and they had set us up right in front of the Jazz group (fine for me). We sipped our wine waiting for the other two couples. When our friends arrived, they wanted a different table where we could talk more and they accommodated our change graciously. Our Canadian friends enjoyed the food as much as we did and we ended up talking and sharing until we closed the restaurant. All in all, we had a lovely evening."

  • "The ambience of the restaurant was nice. Mellow lighting and warm colors. The food was disappointing. The French Onion soup was served with the cheese burned. The Chicken was about a minute and a half over-cooked, though still tasty. The profiteroles were very good. The service throughout was spotty. I had the feeling our waitress had too many tables to serve. "

  • "Have been several times. As always, food and service is excellent. Charcuterie is a must. "

  • "As a duck lover, I know of what I speak...The duck was overcooked (tho I had requested "medium rare" as any good duck should be). It was also tough and not succulent. We were charged extra for switching our vegetables even tho I cannot eat swiss chard and my husband cannot eat sweet potatoes which come w/the duck. At $30+ a platter, I must say that is appalling!!! Has the restaurant changed chefs on a Monday night? Perhaps that was the problem. The onion soup is good. The profiteroles also, but the duck...forget it!!! I don't know if we shall return to this restaurant soon, even tho we have gone there frequently in the past and it is conveniently located for us. Service is friendly and quite good. Shame the food is not."

  • "A great BYOB. Everything we've ever had has been great. From their delicious crusty baguette and homemade ketchup with French fries to the mushroom risotto. You can have a light delicious salad, a sandwich, or a lovely entree. They are versatile and everything is great. Wonderful and pleasant staff as well."
