A word from A la bonne franquette
The French expression "A la bonne franquette" means that the food is homey and prepared without fuss. It’s all about the simplicity of the food and sharing it with friends and family. The food at A la bonne Franquette bistro is prepared using French techniques and recipes. It's also infused with Arabic spices which reflect Chef Hamed's Sudanese origins and nomadic life style through the great continent of Africa and the many influences he has encountered while living in Africa, Europe and in the United States.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Love this restaurant. Fantastic food, charming setting, great view, and wonderful service. "

  • "Being new to the neighborhood I had driven/run past A la bonne Franquette several times. This was our first time dining here and it was a wonderful experience. Beautiful view, excellent service, and incredible dishes. A bottle of pinot blanc with a small plate and the confit special left room for dessert...an impressively large and silky creme brûlée. We plan on returning when friends are in town so we can show off Seattle's finest as well as when we want to celebrate our own special occasions (the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner.) Thanks A la BF!"

  • "Went with friends We could hear each other talk which was very nice for a change . We all enjoyed our meals-quite good. Service was very good and the server made for a good experience. Would go back again and again."

  • "Nice variety of interesting, well-prepared food, always with an excellent vegetarian option! Everything we have tried on the menu during our 4 visits has been excellent, and yes, quite rich as you might expect! It is small, so do make reservations; but I believe they usually keep a couple unreserved seats at the cooking counter and bar. Cozy, casual seating in the front window area and a more subdued, romantic area in the back with a territorial view studded with sparkling lights at night. For a neighbor restaurant, the food is not inexpensive, but we think it is worth the price. Our only complaint is that they charge for bread and butter. Given their prices, bread should be served as a matter of course!"

  • "A friend of mine introduced me to La Bonne Franquette and I have introduced other friends this charming neighborhood restaurant. Wine list is my style and pairs with all their specialty entrees. I love the desserts and my fav is Pôt de Crème au Chocolat - fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing La Bonne Franquette for a second time. We were joined by friends are are big fans of French Bistro type restaurants and they were not disappointed by this experience. The Rillete du jour (pork was a great starter and the Black Cod special was delicious. For me, the lamb stew was simply excellent. We finished the evening with some decadent bread pudding. Overall, a delightful food experience, not to say anything about the fantastic views of downtown Seattle that will ensure we return in the near future."

  • "This place is in my neighborhood, and a real find. Elegant French-inspired food with bits of North African cuisine added to some dishes. There is an interesting and fairly priced wine list and good advice available from the staff. One of the best views in town."

  • "First time dinning in this restaurant. I had heard good things, but was still pleasently surprised. I had the best French Onion soup I have ever had. I think the best part of the meal was the service. Our wait person offered to move us to a view table after one opened up soon after we had been seated. We hadn't asked to be moved, but it was a very welcomed jesture. She was very attentive through the rest of the meal. I will certainly return and often."

  • "Our party of 4 had a wonderful meal with great ambiance attended by very professional waitstaff. Outstanding view of the Seattle skyline. Solid wine list. Chef Hamid has created a great environment to enjoy his French bistro style meals."

  • "The Chocolate Pot de Crème was really good. It's a little scary that it's only 5 minutes from home....."

  • "Driving by from the outside, you hardly notice the restaurant. Once you walk in, you're in this small cozy place of African/Moroccan decor with fabulous view of Seattle skyline. The food was fantastic - I had the pan seared trout with capers over sauteed green beans, light yet flavorful and so tender. I picked from my friend's plate who had hanger stead with potato cake, another fantastic dish. I'll definitely drive all the way again from Kirkland to dine there."

  • "Just amazing, delicious, fresh food and top-notch service. I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted to order because everything looked good on the menu and glancing around the restaurant, I could see other diners' plates and they all looked like something I wanted. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. (And the skyline view is phenomenal!!)"

  • "Based on the price and reviews I'd read online I was expecting a relatively casual but very high quality French restaurant so I got a reservation for Valentine's Day which I now regret. The restaurant itself is quite casual, which I prefer as long as the food is good, but everything was either just "okay," or not very good at all. For the price ($70 per person + 30 for a wine pairing), I expect fairly high quality, but the food was no different than you would get from an everyday mid-range restaurant."

  • "We showed up to our 7:15pm reservation 5 minutes late with the expectation of ordering appetizers from an open menu before making it back into Seattle for an 8pm show. The wait staff informed us that it would be impossible to do so - Valentine's Day is a three course affair with appetizers and desert. It was decided that they could rush us appetizers, bubbles and desert to avoid the $50 per person cancellation fee. The foie gras was excellent, the lobster bisque light and forgive-ably lukewarm, the bubbles bubbly. We received our check after the exceptionally rich but not overbearing chocolate pavé. I wish we had planned it better. We were not expecting any service and instead received the best I have ever experienced in 20 years."

  • "A la bonne franquette was suggested by a friend and my wife and I couldn't be happier about the discovery. Wonderful French influenced food, a terrific view of the city, perfect service and very, very romantic. We highly recommend it."

  • "Don't go to this restaurant unless some one pays you to. We went there for valentine's day dinner. The set dinner is fixed and it was $70 before tax and tips for 3 courses, including a small piece of bread, main course, and desert. And the main course is 3 pieces of scollops!! I just can't understand how can people eat and get full there. This restaurant is totally ridiculous! And when we tried to cancel the reservation because we later realized that they only offer that stupid 3-courses - $70 USD dinner, they claimed that they would charge $50 per person on my credit card. I feel offended and will definitely never go back! I will also tell all my friend to never eat there. This restaurant is just rubbish."

  • "Go here a lot as it is in my neighborhood of Mt Baker and Leschi, but close as well in cap hill and intl district. Smaller menu as everything is special. Favs are their pates, lamb dishes and wines. Views of downtown and beacon hill from west end/back of restaurant are nice."

  • "My wife and I were both celebrating our birthdays, and the server and staff made us feel special. The excellent food was reasonably priced and beautifully presented, and they made substituted one vegetable for another at my request."

  • "Very quiet but probably due to arriving late in the evening so not a lot of other diners. Quaint and wonderful interior. Food was fresh and delicious! Perfectly cooked fish, roasted veggies and great soup. We had the fresh homemade ice cream for dessert and it ,too, was droolingly delicious. I would recommend A La Bonne Franquette to all."

  • "Always lovely. Such attention to simple, elegent, tasty meals. Love the decor! The view is pretty awesome, too, but mostly I come because it's close by, I love the food, and it's fun to turn new people on to it."

  • "The onion soup was weak, the crust on the creme brule thin, but most of the food was very good. Great bistro ambiance, overlooking the city. It was an enjoyable dinner out."

  • "A la Bonne Franquette is a rare find. A French Bistro, up in the hills, overlooking Seattle. This is a small restaurant, that is truly a French bistro. The food is authentic; the service sincere."

  • "I love this place - and I do not live in the neighborhood! My husband and I go there all the way from the eastside for special occasions. We even took our son the other day and the staff was amazing. They are not equipped for kids, so bring you own crayons and paper if you need to. Schedule an early dinner to experience the sunset from either the restaurant or the park just outside. The food is always impeccable. It's a pitty they're not serving their famous french onion soup this winter, but the seasonal replacement was delicious."

  • "this is a lovely small restaurant. It has the appearance of a little neighborhood spot, but features amazing cuisine. highly professional presentation and service. we live in the area and have been there a few times and it never disappoints. A great place to take out of town guests. The view is spectacular."

  • "We had a group of 10. Our server was amazing. She anticipated everything from decanting our wine, to bringing out the champagne before midnight as well as party favors! The food was excellent. We had the prix fixe meal which included 3 course dinner. I loved the clams for my appetizer and the duck confit was cooked p perfectly and the desserts were homemade ."

  • "High on Mt. Baker Ridge, with an outstanding view of downtown Seattle, this comfortable French Bistro is a delight! The decor and ambiance are reminiscent of a family owned French inn. I have stopped in for a glass of wine and appetizers with friends at the small bar in back, where you can see the skyline of Seattle twinkling on the horizon through the large picture window. But, it's the main courses and desserts, expertly and lovingly prepared by Chef Ahmed right in front of your eyes, that keep me coming back for more. The pan roasted Idaho trout is amazing, prepared with speck, shallots and wild mushrooms. The menu varies with the seasons, and what is freshest at the market. Always something delicious to try whenever you come in!"
