A Fish Called AvalonThe experience cannot be duplicatedUpon arrival for my 830 reservation, we were seated in a matter of seconds. I came with a party of 4 and the other couple was from Boston. I was looking for a special evening that they would never forget. Boy did I get it right by bring them to this restaurant! Our waiter Orlando was amazing and attended to our requests so well it felt like we'd rented the place for the night. The jumbo shrimp, crab cake, and seared scallops appetizers were all to die for. Between us we had the shrimp scampi, seafood risotto, sea bass, and lobster. The only thing that can be said is were still talking about that food, constantly. To make it even sweeter we were surprised with a creme brulee and thru version of cheesecake. I have eaten at the restaurant before each time it has been really good. The food is excellent and the service is simply outstanding. Our server was Orlando and he made some excellent suggestion. The grill octopus was excellent and the bass was outstanding. Orlando was clearly knowledgeable about the food and even how it was cooked and was just a fun guy. My wife had the snapper, at the server's recommendation. Hers was not well done as she asked for, and they seemed unable to correct it on the second try, but she was okay with it. W The concierge at the Hilton suggested this restaurant and we were NOT disappointed. The food was great. I ordered the macadamia crusted snapper and spiinach risotto and would order it again! My husband had the crab crusted grouper with roasted tomatoes, large white beans and spinach and he loved it. They make the best mojitos and the music was a very soft relaxing guitar that set the tone for a very enjoyable evening. If you are looking for a place that allows you to take in the sights and relax and be pampered, this is it!! It has s sophisticated atmosphere that leaves you wanting to come back! We arrived a little early for our reservation so we sat in the bar and had a great cocktail! The bartender was very friendly and accomodating. Everything we ordered was incredible. It's so rare to have such an incredible experience. The food was perfectly prepared and the sauces were so on point I have no idea how anyone can prepare such perfection. While the bang bang shrimp lived up to it's reputation, personally I enjoyed the crab cake even more. The sea bass was melt in your mouth. The outside dining is perfect for people watching but not so noisy that you can not hear table conversation. If you want to taste something wonderful, order the grilled octopus appetizer! It's indescribly delicious! The only downside to this restaurant is getting there. South Beach is one big traffic jam so allow yourself plenty of time to make your reservation. ( Also,parking is expensive.) You get to be a part of the energy and street life without being in the thick of it. Our meal was superb. I highly recommend the sea scallops as an appetizer. They are served with a delicious sauce akin to a vanilla bean beurre blanc. My husband had the grouper for his entree and I had the sea bass. Both were cooked to perfection and came piping hot. Service was attentive and our waitor was knowledgeable. I should also mention that our bartender was very warm and pleasant. Who would have thought that it would be windy and in the 50s in Miami in March! The restaurant accommodated with outdoor heaters. They were very effective. The food was excellent. The seafood paella was made with orzo and was wonderful. I very much enjoyed the lobster bisque but stopped at the point of licking my plate. My wife had the macadamia crusted Snapper and also found it to be excellent. We had a table on the front deck so that we were able to people watch while listening to live Latin music next to us. Outside there is the buzz of SoBe and the people watching that goes with it, althought there is a musician who can be a bit cheesy.
