Diner Reviews
  • "We have dined here a few times now. The service is always great as is the food. This is the only restaurant that we go to that can make a perfect well done steak and it comes out right the first time."

  • "I needed to book a surprise 50th birthday party dinner for my friend. Being from out of town I had no idea where to go or what restaurant to pick. She loves seafood, so I took a chance based on prior reviews I had read. Awesome place. Hostesses helped with the surprise, Kevin our waiter was great, and food was wonderful. Everyone in our party loved their meals. Thanks to 89 Fish & Grill! I will return again when in Columbus"

  • "This is a very good local fish and seafood restaurant with good service a nice atmosphere and worth trying if you have not been."

  • "Nice location; the staff was very attentive and friendly. Crowd was enjoying the casual friendly environment. Food was good and plate presentation was very nice."

  • "This restaurant has a nice, semi-casual atmosphere indoors, but at 7:15 PM, the weather was so nice we opted for the Patio. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, with a relaxed no-rush atmosphere. We sat near the musical entertainment; Parker Muntz played guitar and sang - softly. Music was low, enough to listen to and enjoy or to tone-out for conversation - never overpowering. Cioppiono, a Bouillabaisse style mixture of seafood in a mild red broth. Honestly, this was just OK. I would give this a C+. The Sake Marinated Sea Bass more than made up for the Cioppiono. This dish was outstanding! This was probably the best fish that I have ever tasted. Patio atmosphere, food, service, soft music, made this a perfect evening."

  • "This was my third date to this restaurant. Me and my date usually sit at the bar and have awesome cocktails and dinner. This time we invited a couple and was seated, our drinks were strong and not enjoyable, our waitress Bridgette was very unattentive- which was shocking because there were hardly any guests, we even witnessed staff arguing on the floor during service and to top it all off, our guests steak was cooked incorrectly and remade incorrectly. This was soooo embarrassing because I bragged about the food and service to our guests even had them cancel reservations with Hyde and Park. I will come back and give 89 one more try, I just hope it is a better experience."

  • "We had heard from friends how great 89 was, so six of us gave it a try Friday night. We had the east and west coast oysters. They were incredible! Also our group ordered salmon, scallops and pork dish. Everything was very good and enjoyed by all. 89 has a beautiful patio with live music. We all would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Normally don't leave reviews but this one is worth it! Not a thing to complain about! Incredible food, dined on the patio, nice live music, attentive helpful waiter. We Had the shucked oysters, east and west coast, grilled swordfish, chiopino, and each had a desert. Everything was perfect. The swordfish was literally the prettiest plating I've ever seen. 5 stars all around, for sure will be back."

  • "We were seated promptly even though we arrived a little before our reservation time. Menu was simple but provided everything we came for. Fresh fish cooked several ways was also a bonus. Portions were generous and well prepared. Server was very good and he did his job well. Enjoyed the soft back ground music. No live music was available for our early dinning. But we really enjoyed the light back ground music. It was a Birthday dinner for my companion, and she loves fish. She was not disappointed."

  • "My husband and I were traveling through Columbus from North Carolina, as dinner time started to approach I used my mobile open table app to find a restaurant. What a wonderful way to find a place to eat on the road instead of eating at a fast food or chain restaurant. 89 Fish and grill was awesome! The only thing I they couldn't offer me was an address closer to my home. Food and service was wonderful!"

  • "I love the seafood. We got a free dessert as we went on our anniversary. Also love that they honor groupons and premier dinning club cards."

  • "The food was excellent. We'd recommend starting with fresh oysters which were so good we doubled down and ordered them twice. Entrees served with risotto and fresh vegetables all served promptly and with great presentation. Seafood (I had scallops, my wife had salmon) was fresh and perfectly cooked. Unique desserts that don't overwhelm with size or sweetness perfect for sharing when you just need a bite or two to cap things off. Outdoor dining option was nice but it lacks a good view and noise from nearby exit ramp is a drawback. This was the only downside to this location. Summing up, perfect spot for a date night or dinner with friends.. Reasonably priced, decent wine list. We'll go back!"

  • "We decided to try this restaurant because we were hoping for somewhere with an outdoor patio. The host/hostess were extremely friendly and we were able to sit outside. There was live music which concerned us at first, but it was perfect, nice and quiet background music, not over-powering. The waiter was exceptional and his recommendations were spot on. All of us enjoyed our meals and they were all cooked perfectly. Prices are reasonable for this type of restaurant. We will definitely be back."

  • "We had dinner there Friday evening and everything was great! Excellent food (get the sea bass!), attentive staff, nice interior! We stayed at The Lofts, could walk right over, which made it even better!"

  • "If you are a fish lover you will enjoy this place! My boyfriend and I love fish and we had a hard time picking are dinner because everything on the menu looked great and it was. "

  • "I was disappointed in my overall dining experience at 89 Fish and Grill. I have been there before and thoroughly enjoyed it, but that was more than a year ago. My food arrived hardly warm - my cocktail was off - and I found the dimly lit restaurant too dark and the bright windows blinding - need a better balance between the two. Overall, not worth the money. "

  • "Who expects great seafood in Columbus? We certainly didn't.My wife and I have been blessed to have eaten in the finest restaurants both in the USA and abroad. Our Thursday night dinner was the best we've had in a long while. I was immediately pleased to order a bottle of Albarino, one of my favorite white wines but rarely found on any restaurant's wine list. The hot crab dip was a delicious starter, but the best was yet to come. They have fresher seafood on the coasts but it's hard to top the preparation here. My wife ordered the succulent sea scallops in sage oil over truffle risotto. My "Oscar style" Skuna Bay salmon was the finest salmon entrée I've ever had, and I've eaten salmon in both Alaska and Washington state. An awesome meal! GO!"

  • "The food was great with the exception of the hair we found in the hot crab dip. Told the server about it and she got us a new one right away. The sea bass was delicious! "

  • "Seafood entrees far better than your typical seafood restaurant. Portions were appropriate and sides had unusual combinations."

  • "This was our second visit to 89 and we were not disappointed. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. Also, we feel that the prices are more reasonable than CM and other comparable Columbus restaurants."

  • "I took my close friend to The 89 for her birthday on Wednesday. The calamari was tender and tasty under a light batter. The sauce it was served with really accented the flavor. The Angry Mussels were made with chorizo and a few other spicy things. They went very well together especially on the garlic crustini. I had the crab cakes for supper. I substituted truffle risotto for the herb garlic potatoes. Wow! The risotto was well worth the $2 upcharge! The crab cakes were very tasty especially with the sauce that came with them. We skipped dessert since we were very full! They also have a very nice happy hour menu of drinks and appetizers that you can only get at the bar. "

  • "My family and I found this to be a great place to dine! The food was delicious, prepared just as we requested, and the service was wonderful. We recommend taking your time to peruse the menu and asking your waiter as many questions as you want-they are very knowledgeable and patient and will ensure you get your food just the way you want it. We were greeted and thanked, everyone was so polite and professional and we appreciated the complimentary valet parking! We would definitely return!"

  • "high quality food and reasonably large portions at a reasonable price for upscale dining - salmon and swordfish with vegetables great for those who are looking for nutrition along with a positive dining experience - great for a couple or for a group of 4 or 6, bar was lively, attentive staff but not overbearing - will definitely go back"

  • "It was our second visit to 89 Fish and Grill. Service was excellent. Food was great. We even found an obscure Italian wine that we really like. Happy hour specials are great but should be extended to the tables and booths that are near the bar."

  • "Scallops are swordfish were excellent. We will be back!"
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "After the waiter tried to forcibly suggest we choose a more expensive wine, the crab dip was fishy, the shrimp appetizer bland, the calamari was fishy, the sea bass was fishy and the swordfish dry and over cooked. Will not be back. The people at the table behind us were so loud and rude we could barely talk to our granddaughter - and this was at 600 pm! too bad because the décor is nice but that is not why we went. Also to have fried corn dogs and fries as choices for children is also pretty poor."

  • "We had dinner at 89 Fish and Grill for Mother's Day and we could not have picked a better place. Great service, outstanding food and great atmosphere. Everything was prepared as we wished and tasted fabulous! Service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening! "
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "While our waitress was attentive, the over 30 minute wait for our dinners cast a pall over the whole evening. When the food did arrive, it was simply ok and nothing special. My daughter's fish was over cooked and my husbands filet was very over done. "

  • "Not as "dressy' or formal as I thought it would be but I still loved the atmosphere. In an old brick building with a nice bar area and nicely done. All the seafood we ate was delicious. Oysters Rockefeller were great! Large oysters. Ciopinno was tasty. Overall, was a nice dinner with good service. Moscow mule was great...served in a copper mug (as it should be! ) Would recommend to family or friends "

  • "My wife and I live in the Cleveland area and discovered 89 Fish and Grill a couple of years ago while on a trip to Columbus. Their food is excellent! Their service is equally excellent! We have taken friends and family for special occasions. They never disappoint. Every time we make a trip to Columbus, 89 Fish and Grill is on the list of restaurants we go to."

  • "I am from a seacoast city and am often skeptical about ordering seafood inland. This place did an admirable job all around. We asked for a few customizations, done with zero drama. I like that. Blackened scallops with the veggies from the pork dish and side of house made tartar sauce=really, you guys should put this on the menu! Only downside, we ate outside (beautiful evening) and there was a table of cigar smokers near by. "

  • "The food was EXCELLENT. The Ahi was slightly overcooked but not dry at all. The service had a few glitches but very good overall. We were offered soup or salad with the meal and presumed it was included. Otherwise it would have been perfect. I will be back. I will recommend them."

  • "Great food and service. We had a couple of signature cocktails and great bottle of wine."

  • "We had high expectations for this restaurant, but it fell very short. We had reservations well in advance and they set our party of 6 in a booth with no view of interest. Service was just OK, not bad but not what you would expect for an upscale restaurant. The food was the real let down. We chose this restaurant for the fish, and the best plate served was a pork dish. The fish portions were small for the price and the taste was just average. The sea bass was the most disappointing. It was a small piece of fish sitting in chicken soup. The salads were small for the price and way over dressed. Deserts were good. The oysters were the best thing we thing we ate. Not one of our group mentioned wanting to return."

  • "We had a great dinner at 89. Everything from the free valet, to the jazz singer, to the dinner, to the dessert was top notch. This is a beautiful restaurant with a nice vibe. Our group will be back and will recommend it to our friends."
