I've patronized 8407 Kitchen Bar for quite a few years, and it has been my "go-to" for impressing clients. I have noticed in my last two visits that it may be on the decline. The menu hasn't really changed and is getting stale. While normally the drinks are outstanding and plentiful, on my last visit I was disappointed because the waiter (a rookie) did not explore with me the different possibilities of my drink order...he just took my order andcame back with a short, generic drink without the usual wow factor. The actual food is still great, but something is missing. Yesterday, I read in Washingtonian that the chef left last summer...is this what I'm sensing?

I like kitchen bar but don't understand why their prices are so high. My salmon was $28 which seems higher than reasonable. Food was good so no complaints about quality, portions were generous. Coffee was OK, nothing special. Service was a bit slow. One person in our party ordered dessert (bread pudding that we shared) which was so hot it burned mouths but it was tasty. Ever after it had been at the table several minutes it was still burning hot. Do they microwave it?

This was probably our sixth or seventh visit to 8407 kitchen bar over two years or so. It has been a "go to" place for us to bring friends and family, as well as an occasional family dinner in Silver Spring. It felt a little stale on this past visit. The food is fine and it is a nice place to eat and have a conversation, but the service was lackluster and frankly, for an area that has lots of new, interesting restaurants popping up all the time, 8407 felt like it was just going through the motions with this visit. We would probably recommend it to someone who has never been before, but it won't be an enthusiastic recommendation.

This is one of my go-to places for lunch in Silver Spring when meeting colleagues or clients. Terrific menu, well-executed and now with their $8.47 specials, an even better deal. I have to remember to ask for "no fries" with my sandwiches because if they come, I will eat every last one. They are always so well prepared: crisp and fabulous. I had the turkey wrap and a soup. Soup was terrific and I took home half the wrap for lunch the next day. I've never been disappointed.

Living and working in downtown Silver Spring, I am, of course, familiar with 8407, but had never been there for lunch. Seeking a spot for a business meeting on a Monday afternoon, I decided to try 8407, which was an amazing delight. The lunch menu has a big selection, including a list of impressive items for $8.47. My colleague had a gorgeous chicken salad wrap surrounded by crispy fries and I felt like I was stealing something by having two scrumptious and perfectly prepared Mahi Mahi tacos for $8.47. This is less than a decent salad at Whole Foods or nearby organic salad spots, I might add. We lingered undisturbed for more than 2 hours, enjoying the calm, quiet, and lovely meal. I'll be back!

I love eating in this restaurant because the ambience is so inviting. And our waiter promised us an excellent evening which we thoroughly expected to have. But our experience proved to be contrary. Trying to enjoy our conversation the servers twice rudely tried to dump the entree on us while we had barely progressed with the appetizer. Then when we were ready for it, half of the duck tasted like mush and was barely edible. The other half was wonderfully rare and flavorful. As was all of the other food. But the evening which was a special celebration had been dampened by the service and the duck. Too bad. This should all be an excellent dining experience.

Sauces are revealing, & 8407 did not disappoint. We shared steamed mussels, which were large, fresh & done exactly right with abundant garlic & tasty toast. I had duck comfit - a guilty pleasure perfectly done - from the savory sauce to the crispy flavorful skin. My wife had sea scallops that were fresh and subtle. The Pinot Grigio was outstanding & a good match. The 8407 managers clearly love good food and help others enjoy it with outstanding service in a relaxing setting. You can tell when people are having fun at their job, and whoever runs this place is having a good time. Their joy is apparent and infectious. Perhaps such a fantastic place it is relatively affordable is because it is located by the idle Transit Center.

Great Chicken & Rice Soup, Hamburger was dry and over cooked (I requested Med Well), French Fries were limp but they had great bread pudding for dessert. Country music was being played, I'm not a fan of country music. There was just one other table occupied so the service was fast and the waiter was very attentive. The only parking is two blocks away!

Great place in Silver Spring, easy to meet people at since it's right next to the subway. Attractive interior with exposed brick walls. The service was good and most importantly the food is very good, modern American food. I had the duck two ways, which was so much I took some home.

We had the strip steak and the trout. The food was presented nicely. The steak was a little on the rare side - requested medium rare- but okay. The trout was over cooked and dry. The bread pudding however was fantastic. The service was on the slow side. I had to asked waterboys several times to send my waiter to bring me the check and once signed I had to actually get up and start to leave to pay at the cash register downstairs before my waiter noticed me.

8407 has always been a favorite, but the service is not as good as it used to be. Our server was very friendly, but seemed to be a little lost as a waiter. He had a tendency to work on 1 table at a time which meant that there were large time blocks where I couldn't even get his attention. I had to ask for bread and water from a bus person. 1 of the 2 of them was friendly, the other not so much. The food was good and the wine that we ordered was delicious. It was a disappointing visit to what is usually one of the best restaurants in silver spring. Hopefully it was an off night.

Our first course never came, the waiter couldn't find the wine we ordered, the appetizer salad was the size of an entree, the scallops came raw. When they brought them back, they were burnt on the outside and still raw inside. We poured our own wine mostly, and when the waiter poured, he filled one glass and not the other. The manager did comp the scallops and dessert, but overall, we spent way too much time trying to get food and wine to the table.

I found this menu to be simply average, and the service barely that. I met someone for lunch, asked for a dark napkin to cover my suit, and the server looked at me like I was crazy. Finally said no and instead offered me white cocktail napkins. I too had the chicken wrap, and the food was bland with grissle in my wrap. Really? Perhaps it was simply a bad day, but the experience was noteworthy enough that I'd most likely return only for drinks. Sad, because it's in a great location and the decor is nice.

We eat regularly at Kitchen Bar and usually request a banquette near the bar. Last Friday, there was a large family group holding a special event dinner at the restaurant, and although they had reserved the "back" room, many of them stood around the bar talking before dinner, making the area around our banquette crowded and noisier than usual. Our server was apologetic and we knew they'd eventually move to their tables, so we weren't complaining, but the manager came and told us that they would comp our first round of drinks to compensate for the inconvenience. Just one more reason we love going there.

Disappointing Washingtonian Magazines top 100 pick. The excellent décor & acceptable service did not make up for the sub-par food. The appetizers of fried oysters, raw oysters, "duck fat" fries, and pork belly were acceptable. Nothing special. The lamb chops were overcooked and under seasoned, not to mention skimpy; the pork chop was overcooked even though we specifically requested that they not be cooked well-done, and the scallops were raw. The highlight of the meal was the ginger and lime martini and the bread pudding. Both delicious. We will not return to this restaurant especially since it resulted in an upset stomach for one of the guests. There are far too many good places to eat in the DC area to give this one a second chance.

We went to 8407 with a few other couples and had a great Friday night out! We sat in the bar, the food and service was excellent. We asked for some wine and cocktail recommendations and John was very helpful, answering our questions and making suggestions within our price range. We started with the shrimp risotto and everyone at the table nearly licked their bowls clean. I loved the tagliatelle and my husband said the lamb was the best he's ever had. A fun and relaxing evening, we'll be back for sure.

I was looking for a place to meet D.C and Maryland residents, some without a car. Downtown was too much hassle and too expensive. 8407, a block from the Silver Spring metro, fit the bill. Local, seasonal and expertly prepared food and drinks. I've eaten here several times before and I am more pleased with each visit. The waiter was wonderful with a dry, droll style with attentive, non-intrusive expertise and knows the menus. All 5 of us cleaned our plates (appetizer, dinner and dessert). A great place to relax, visit, converse and have a wonderful dining experience.

In a city FULL of all you can eat & bottomless brunches, Kitchen Bar leaves something to be desired. The service was really great, and you can sit there for a long time and did not feel rushed, so that was really nice. As far as the food, it's not great. I tried the meatballs, quiche, bacon, biscuit, and a few other things I thought weren't great. The one exception to that was the lox, which really was amazing, though there were no bagels. There also was a lovely spread of artisan breads, but no cheese, just fruit jams. I have friends who went there for brunch before it was a buffet, and they all said it was delicious, so I was really looking forward to going. I don't think I'd go back for brunch. The regular a la carte menu looked nice.
