  • "Awesome time dining out. I hadn't seen my bestfriend in awhile & we needed to catch up. Our server, Eirik made this experience perfect. The recommendations were perfect for what I had a taste for. Also the food was great, except the tap water and the dessert wasn't the best. Our server made up for this with with jokes and sweet remarks. Great place to dine!"

  • "My best friend and I decided to try 8407 Kitchen & Bar during Restaurant Week because we had already tried the other featured restaurants before. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The service we received from Eric was highly informative and personable. Our only slight critique was the food. We loved the cream corn soup but we did not care for the rainbow trout. Surprisingly, we both thought it was slightly bland. I would be willing to give them another try as they may have had the trout already made due to the demand during restaurant week. As with any restaurant, I'll say give them a try as your experience will be different from mine."

  • "Once we were seated the waiter swung by and said he'll be right back. About 15-20 minutes later the bartender came over and asked us if we wanted more drinks. We told him we were ready to order and ordered through him. The food was OK. I had to flag one of the bus boys down to ask for the check. A few minutes later the waiter came over and brought dessert menus. We told him we already asked the bus boy for the check and received a snarky remark about how only he (the waiter) can get us the check. This was the first time he was at our table and we were there for at least an hour and twenty minutes."

  • "All 3 of us raved about our entrees. The NC rainbow trout was outstanding. I liked the Flying Dog on tap. Wine was fine. Rhubarb dessert -- just ok; turn it into a real pie. I tried to book on Open Table for 7:00 -- 7:30 pm dinner on a Saturday night. It was either 6:45 or 8:00 pm; I took the latter. I got there at 7:50 and there were LOTS of available tables. Should I have called the restaurant directly?"

  • "Started with warm olives appetizer. Came with bread and cheese spread that was delicious. Trout was very good, but prefer their smoked trout. Wasn't crazy about veggie medley under trout. Partially because I don't like cooked tomatoes. Had marscapone polenta -- to die for -- like ice cream! I took a doggie bag home because I couldn't bear to let any of the food go to waste -- it was that good!"

  • "First time eating here. Wanted to try something new. Arrived to an empty hostess stand and waited ~3 min for her to arrive. Made a 7:45 reservation in Open Table but table wasn't actually ready until closer to 8:10 pm. Not sure why they'd even show an available reservation in the system...they kinda need to sync that better. Was doubtful after such a slow start, but bar service was friendly. So wait wasn't too bad. Dining room is nice. Love the decor. Wait staff was friendly but service was a bit slow. Food was good, but nothing to rave about. We eat out A LOT but probably would only come here once every few months based on this experience, probably when/if we want to change things up from our usual spots."

  • "The food & presentation were excellent. The decor makes a good appearance but is not good for a pleasant meal with an enjoyable conversation. The floors are wood, the walls are brick & one side is all windows. The are open beams leading to the pipes instead of a ceiling. There is nothing to muffle the noise. Fortunately, we had a few minutes to talk before & after the lunch time working crowd were there. We thoroughly enjoyed it while it wasn't so noisy."

  • "This was the 2nd visit and both times the staff who took care of us went above and beyond the call of duty. The first time we were celebrating a friend's new marriage and we brought a small cake for dessert. We weren't sure we'd be allowed to serve it, but we took a chance and even brought our own serving knife, paper plates, forks, etc. so as not to inconvenience our waiter more than necessary. But our waiter completely took care of us, slicing and serving the cake very graciously. Then he surprised us with coupons for free brunch! Well, we came back, even my friends from Vienna, VA, drove all the way back to Silver Spring for this deal. Again, the staff was so accommodating & moved our tables so that our parties were next to each other."

  • "Food was creative and well prepared. Service was excellent. The dining room was nice with exposed brick, etc. Our only disappointment was the noise level; beyond loud. We were there on a weekday evening and the restaurant wasn't full. We had to speak very loudly to be heard over the noise in the room at our table of 5. There is nothing to absorb the noise on the brick walls and open rafter ceiling, which means even normal noise levels are not attenuated at all."

  • "Food was very good and creative. The charcuterie platter was amazing and the trotter tots an original treat, creamy and sweet, salty. My trout was perfectly cooked with crispy skin the vegetables were bathed in butter, which wasn't necessary since they were seasonal fresh veg. The pork belly was crispy with the perfect amount of vegetable and vinegar. Service was a little slow, out entrees came out before we were finished with our apps and they were cleared. The hostess was overwhelmed and under enthusiastic for a Tuesday night in July."

  • "The food was mediocre (Oyster PoorBoy). The service was absolutely awful. The waiter was inattentive and curt, it was all about him. We waited almost 10 minutes to get the check and were late getting back to work. The fries were soggy. The noise level was such that we could not carry on a conversation. The place looks like a warehouse which accounts for the horrible acoustics. They did not have the beer I wanted that was on the menu. There are so many good places to eat in Silver Spring that I cannot think of a reason why I would ever go back to this hole."

  • "When we walked towards the restaurant we thought we had made a serious mistake trying a new place-when we walked in and saw how cool it was and how the upstairs dining area felt so hip we were very excited we were there! Our server was Matt-he was terrific-please ask for him-our beet salad was huge and amazing-just the right amount of dressing and combination of ingredients-Shrimp risotto was the best I have ever had-creamy but not runny-sharp cheese flavor-again, the portion was so large the "small plate" could have been shared. We would return and it is now among our rotating list of places to go-you must overlook the surrounding area though :)"

  • "Having enjoyed a terrific brunch here on Mother's Day, we were very disappointed on our return for dinner with friends this past weekend. A number of the dishes were far too heavily salted and/or spiced. And nothing, including the calamari appetizer which has been given rave reviews in the past, was very good. After a memorable introduction on Mother's Day, we will not be returning."

  • "I've now enjoyed this Silver Spring treasure twice--once for a romantic meal with my spouse and another time for a lunch with young friends. Though unassuming from the street, it is a pleasant oasis inside. The second floor restaurant has a comfortable relaxing ambiance and the wait staff is friendly and engaging. It could stand well on its service alone, but the food is distinctive and high quality: fresh, seasonal, and tasty. Pricing is reasonable especially for the D.C. area. I expect to go again; I'd recommend it highly to others."

However, our server was not that great; he was not very informed about the wine/food pairing so we were basically on our own, nor was he very friendly or attentive. The busser came by repeatedly to clear our table when it was obviously that we were still working on our plates; we felt rushed/hurried so service-wise it wasn't the best of experiences."

  • "I have been returning to 8407 kitchen bar for the past 4 years or so for both business and personal dining. With my personal weakness for Manhattans in mind, they had me from the start with their collection of home made bitters. Try the mole for a cocktail with a kick. Our latest visit started with the porkbelly shared around the table to the delight of all. While I would also highly recommend the fries cooked in duckfat, that plue the porkbelly is too much, so we also shared the exquisite beet salad to provide a light, acidic complement to the fatty/crispy pig goodness. A favorite of mine is the duck two ways: the leg and thigh are served as comfit, while the breast is lightly seared. Desserts: to die for. No more space: EAT!"

  • "We all had a different experience. The duck was very well received, but the serving size of the souffle off foie gras, was too large and not that great. The trout was just ok but I was disappointed that the accompanying side of tagliatelle was unavailable, maybe a Monday problem, so they gave an extra amount of vegetables. The steak was a big hit, as well as the scallops. The highlight of the evening was the rhubarb dessert; that was awesome. I was sorry that I did not order some of the more original items on the menu; maybe next time. All in all it is a very pleasant restaurant in the middle of bustling Silver Spring, and the parking garage is just adjacent. Service was friendly and attentive. Worth a second visit."

  • "After completing a series of graduate school exams, another student and I had a celebratory dinner here and it was very enjoyable. The menu on a Friday evening offered a lot of fresh fish dinner selections (the mussels served in a steaming pot, scallops and salmon were all excellent) and as we were only ordering wine by the glass, the selection also was very good - great quality. The special cocktails were a great way of starting a dinner. Desserts were also freshly made and tasty and the portion sizes for everything were great. Only drawback - we were seated in one of the half-moon bancettes and the "fit" for two grown adult males was a bit tight."

  • "I honestly prefer 8407 kitchen for lunch, dinner or happy hour over the brunch buffet. It was a great spread, but all buffets leave a bit to be desired, I think. This place is not to be missed though, I'm still dreaming of the butternut squash soup I had there last fall, or the duck 2 ways that we tried for dinner a month or two ago. Great spot in Silver Spring!"
