For romantic dining, request semi-circular booth along back wall of restaurant. Other tables for two persons are rather large and lack same intimacy. Excellent cocktails and one of the best mojitos I've had this decade.

A wonderful addition to Silver Spring. The food is fresh, tasty and beautifully plated. The portions are reasonable and leaves you satisfied but not stuffed. We've gone to the restaurant twice and tried a good many of the selections. The calamari is well made, tasty & not at all rubbery. I would recommend the seared scallops, roasted duck, and crabcake. Desserts are not to be missed especially the creme brulee! The signature Pimms is a must and perfect for the hot weather.

    Dined on 4/30/2010
8407 is exactly what Silver Spring needs! The atmosphere is great-- very tastefully done, with exposed brick, great lighting, and a casual yet chic feel. There is a lovely bar area with open windows and couches. The dining area upstairs is open and comfortable, but not too loud. The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. But the food and drink are the real gems-- so many creative, yet not overstated or far-out, choices! The special drink menu is incredible (my husband had the Pimms, which had muddled cucumber and mint...YUM!) and the wine list was smallish but tastefully chosen. I cannot say enough good things about the food. It was all just perfect in every way.

What a wonderful surprise! Completely unexpected, and incredibly welcome in Silver Spring. The place looks fantastic and The staff is incredibly professional while still being enthusiastic and friendly - I get the feeling they are excited to be a part of this place. The food was amazing! My scallops were cooked to utter perfection, and my husband got the daily special - stuffed rabbit leg - delicious! The bittersweet chocolate tart was ridiculously good, I'd go back just for that. And I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the cocktails - we tried 4 of the 6 on the menu and each one delighted - unique (ginger lime martini or pimms cup with cucumber mint and ginger), delicious, and worth every penny. By far the best mojito I've had.

As fans of Chef Pedro's Nicaro, we were so happy to welocme him back to Silver Spring. The new place is fantastic. The atmosphere is adult and chi-chi with great background music, and there is a vibe, but the noise is not overwhelming as it was at Nicaro. The menu is trendy and imaginative and the portions "responsible" to quote our server Rich who was at Nicaro as well. Needless to say, the menu is delicious and cretive, and varies from small plates and bar foood to full entrees. The drinks under the stewardship of Jason are delicious, imaginative, and seasonal. We dined at 8401 on two consecutive nights, and we are going back next weekend! The decor is excellent, and the tables are well spaced.

We had a wonderful time (group of 6). The food was delicious - and beautiful to look at. Our service was a little slow at the beginning, but we notified the host, and the waiter was much more attentive. It's a little pricey - but worth it. We will definitely return here for another special occasion. It's nice to have another special restaurant in Silver Spring. The bar on the first floor looked cool as did the large couched lounge on the first floor.

While our waiter was a bit of a rookie, and his section which was way too close to the comings and goings of all the waiters - the food was fantastic! Cheese and olive starter, sardines, salmon special and the best crabcake we'd ever had. The winelist, while small was excellent. And Rita's desserts were most yummy. Highly recommend the food. But ask for a table towards the center of the upstairs dining area, not all the way in the back.

This restaurant is totally a dream come true for Silver Spring. 8407 has it right. They laid a foundation for "ease of use" by providing an interesting menu &hiring a seasoned waitstaff. Too few meatless selections--going in a crowd is going to be difficult: invariably there are people who are vegetarians or who want to cut back on meat. Menu selections should be replete w/non-meat offerings. One or two trendy restaurants have started in Silver Spring, but they seem a little stuck on themselves. 8407 is not like that. It's destined to be hip AND friendly, with one of the owners making rounds, she really wants to know what diners think. Great menu, great drinks, great service, sensible portion control--- this is going to be perfection.

Really nice value for money at Silver Spring. House ground burger for 10 dollars, house made duck prosciutto were delicious. The homemade tagliatelle with lamb ragu was also really tasty. The fried oysters were OK, a little under-seasoned. All in all, a nice experience, would definitely go back. I hope it does well. Silver Spring could use a restaurant like this.

Comfortable seating, good imaginative food in reasonably portion sizes, and some very interesting (in a good way) cocktails. Some stuff was a bit on the sweet side, but order with that in mind and you'll do fine. Pickled shrimp a standout. Also the fries done with duck fat...for a once in a long while treat. Desserts were a real bright spot - we ate every bit of them.

The food was good. maybe a little expensive for what was delivered, but not too bad. Staff was pleasant if not too attentive. The inside is really nice - the decor is very calm and soothing, and there are many comfortable seats, from the half moon booths to the abundance of tables by the windows. The menu in not vegetarian friendly, however, with only one entree that is meatless (gnocchi), which means we may stop by again for a glass of wine and an appetizer, but dinner, probably not.

Food was very good, and the service was top notch. The appetizers could have been a little better, but the entrees and sides were splendid. Restaurant currently faces a construction site, but once that is done the view, etc will be even better still. The place is not at all kid friendly, and it's better for it. The food was outstanding. The appetizers we tried, buttermilk fried calamari was so-so, the semolina floured fried oysters were the best along with the veal carpaccio. I'll be a little lenient because this is a new restaurant and probably still working out the kinks but it took over an hour to get our appetizers and the waiter disappeared for very extended periods of time throughout dinner. I enjoy a leisurely dinner but this waiter was either new or frazzled and would disappear for 30mins. at a time. One other thing to keep in mind the noise level in this place is through the roof. They really need to think about installing some soundproofing especially upstairs..but don't let this dissuade the food is A++

Three friends met for lunch and two of us had pleasant experiences (or fond memories) of being at the Luau Hut - first date and prom night. We were excited with the food. One of my friends said her seafood kebab was outstanding, and I felt the same way about the eggplant soup hat I ordered. The server was most helpful without being hovering, and everyone was cordial. It was totally delightful, and we would highly recommend it to others. We even enjoyed the panoramic view of the Metro construction!

My husband and I ate here Saturday night, 4/17, to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. I had the seared scallops and my husband had the short rib special. Both dishes were wonderful, and Alex our server was attentive and pleasant. I had two glasses of the Chenin Blanc which complemented the scallops nicely. For dessert we split a creme brulee, which had a lovely caramelized crust. I think the restaurant is trying for "neighborhood gem" status, and I'm happy to put it there. 8407 Kitchen Bar is definitely on my "best" list and we'll be going back soon.

The evening was as good as I had hoped it would be. The chef has not lost his touch in the transition from Nicaro to 8407 - in fact, he has probably improved. The menu has a nice selection of options at various price points, including his vaunted Lamb Boglonese (sp?) at about $14. Th atmosphere is better than Nicaro as well; it's a beautiful dining room with large windows, and not as noisy as the old Nicaro. Best of all: the portions are a great size - you are comfortable when you leave, not stuffed.
