Diner Reviews
  • "Having enjoyed a terrific brunch here on Mother's Day, we were very disappointed on our return for dinner with friends this past weekend. A number of the dishes were far too heavily salted and/or spiced. And nothing, including the calamari appetizer which has been given rave reviews in the past, was very good. After a memorable introduction on Mother's Day, we will not be returning."

  • "Cocktail, appetizer, and entrees were all delicious. Service was attentive but not annoying. It was a great date night."

  • "I've now enjoyed this Silver Spring treasure twice--once for a romantic meal with my spouse and another time for a lunch with young friends. Though unassuming from the street, it is a pleasant oasis inside. The second floor restaurant has a comfortable relaxing ambiance and the wait staff is friendly and engaging. It could stand well on its service alone, but the food is distinctive and high quality: fresh, seasonal, and tasty. Pricing is reasonable especially for the D.C. area. I expect to go again; I'd recommend it highly to others."

  • "We all had a different experience. The duck was very well received, but the serving size of the souffle off foie gras, was too large and not that great. The trout was just ok but I was disappointed that the accompanying side of tagliatelle was unavailable, maybe a Monday problem, so they gave an extra amount of vegetables. The steak was a big hit, as well as the scallops. The highlight of the evening was the rhubarb dessert; that was awesome. I was sorry that I did not order some of the more original items on the menu; maybe next time. All in all it is a very pleasant restaurant in the middle of bustling Silver Spring, and the parking garage is just adjacent. Service was friendly and attentive. Worth a second visit."

  • "I have been returning to 8407 kitchen bar for the past 4 years or so for both business and personal dining. With my personal weakness for Manhattans in mind, they had me from the start with their collection of home made bitters. Try the mole for a cocktail with a kick. Our latest visit started with the porkbelly shared around the table to the delight of all. While I would also highly recommend the fries cooked in duckfat, that plue the porkbelly is too much, so we also shared the exquisite beet salad to provide a light, acidic complement to the fatty/crispy pig goodness. A favorite of mine is the duck two ways: the leg and thigh are served as comfit, while the breast is lightly seared. Desserts: to die for. No more space: EAT!"

  • "After completing a series of graduate school exams, another student and I had a celebratory dinner here and it was very enjoyable. The menu on a Friday evening offered a lot of fresh fish dinner selections (the mussels served in a steaming pot, scallops and salmon were all excellent) and as we were only ordering wine by the glass, the selection also was very good - great quality. The special cocktails were a great way of starting a dinner. Desserts were also freshly made and tasty and the portion sizes for everything were great. Only drawback - we were seated in one of the half-moon bancettes and the "fit" for two grown adult males was a bit tight."

  • "I honestly prefer 8407 kitchen for lunch, dinner or happy hour over the brunch buffet. It was a great spread, but all buffets leave a bit to be desired, I think. This place is not to be missed though, I'm still dreaming of the butternut squash soup I had there last fall, or the duck 2 ways that we tried for dinner a month or two ago. Great spot in Silver Spring!"

  • "This was our second time here to celebrate a special occasion since Mother's Day, 8407 kitchen bar has become a family favorite. The food is outstanding and there's always something to please the palate if they are out of menu items as happened on our last visit. Try the mussels, guaranteed to please! Don't forget to sop up the broth, excellent."

  • "Short but enticing menu offers something for everyone; all appealing. First visited for dinner, and ate a beautifully prepared NY strip steak. The bar mixed a very good gin and tonic and the wine list was plentiful. Others chose scallops and risotto and were every pleased. Based on that experience I chose 8407 for lunch w friends and my gumbo and their mussels and duck fried French fries were great. For each event, the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Nice clean lines throughout the restaurant, but a bit loud for conversation when all tables are full. Will go back again soon to this new favorite. Important note:patrons climb stairs to get to dining room; be aware before inviting elderly or less mobile. Is there an elevator?"

  • "Great food, service and ambiance. Public parking garage is right behind the restaurant. If you are in the MD suburbs, this is a sophisticated destination that is easily accessible for lunch. Some have complained of slow service, but I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with a friend. I felt that if I had been on a tight schedule, I only needed to let the waiter know when I placed my order. Enjoyed the mussels and fries. The chocolate cake with gelato sent me on my way with a smile."

  • "Ladies night here was perfect. Ambience in the bar and the dining room, the service and food all made it a night to remember. Will make this our regular ladies night hangout. Awesome staff! Parking was easy and free. Will absolutely recommend! What a find! Do not skip dessert....it's all worth it. Food and wine were all exceptional. "

  • "The food was excellent and the duck is amazing. Great ambience. The only improvement needed is to add either more white wines or replace the Chardonnay by the glass with better choices (there was only 1 Chardonnay and it wasn't good)..."

  • "First visit; great time. The bar lounge off the entrance is a nice start if you're having drinks. Very comfy, and reasonably stylish. The upstairs dining room has the right ambiance with dim lighting, tables spaced properly from one another, and good music. The menu is definitely Contemporary American with interesting selections for each course. We had a marvelous chicken liver pate, butternut squash soup, roasted beet/candied pecan salad for starters. All were excellent. For entrees, I had the rainbow trout with squid ink linguine; the other three had the gnocchi with mushrooms and peas. All dishes were good. Complaint: too much butter and salt. Not atypical, but still...dessert selection nice, but execution sub par. Very good overall."

  • "I am a blessed man. This was a birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant. It doesn't matter what the occasion, you will feel special. Our waiter Scott, was patient and provided us with explanations of menu items and needed time to select our new favorites meals. If you are in a group, be prepared to share. Everyone will want to try what the other orders."

  • "Very pleasant staff. Easy to park. Varied menu. We were a party of 4. All had a starter and an entree and 3 had dessert. All were very good. Very good selection of interesting beers. A nice Petite Sirah by the glass, which is a wine you don't often see offered by the glass. A tad loud in the dining room as it was a busy Friday night, but not unbearable. Cheery hostesses at the front desk. Oxtail ragu was especially enjoyed - delicious. Best restaurant in Silver Spring in my opinion. We have been there 3 times before and will likely return."

  • "I go for the food, but service can make or break the meal. They were excellent. Hostess responded to my request for a quieter spot (I love a noisy group, but only when I'm in it), and this was the only time that I had split waiters actually enhance the experience. Food was good to excellent - the oxtail fettucine was great, the risotto side was a bit too soupy but had great flavor. Too bad I filled up on the house fries fried in duck fat with just the right spike of rosemary. "

  • "The food was great. I had the duck and the dark meat was tasty; however the breast was a little tough even though it was rare. The red rice and green beans that came with it were very tasty. One of my sons had the chicken tenders and fries. He loved the fries, but had to return the chicken tenders because they were fried too hard. They were very accommodating and gave him a new order. My other son loved his grill cheese and fries. Other family members had pork chops, lamb, chicken and a burger. They all loved their food too. It is a nice atmosphere. "

  • "My husband and I love 8407, but I have to say, they've been particularly awesome over the last few months when I've visited while pregnant. The bartenders make really great virgin cocktails, the kitchen and waitstaff don't bat an eye at requests for my meat to be closer to well-done, and they go out of their way to make it feel like a special occasion even when it's a random Friday night. This is definitely my favorite restaurant in Silver Spring."

  • "The food was very good. Enjoyed it greatly. Unfortunately, the drink I got, 3rd times the charm, was not that great considering the cost ($12). The taste of alcohol overwhelmed any other flavors in the drink. "

  • "Everything the four of us (2 couples) ordered was wonderful. Prepared on point! The service was excellent. The noise level was, unfortunately, on a Saturday night, loud. But that's to be expected in a busy, lively place. Our only complaint would be that when everything is served, it DOES NOT fit on the table well. WAY TOO crowded making it uncomfortable and MUCH LESS of a fine dining experience!"

  • "I was worried that 8407 Kitchen Bar was yet another american gastro-pub but was pleasantly surprised by the great seafood there. I ordered the steel head trout and it was beautifully cooked. The other people in my party ordered the lamb loin and the sea scallops. Both came out very nicely presented and perfectly cooked. It was a great find in Silver Spring and right near the Sheraton hotel where we were staying. "

  • "I dined at 8407 Kitchen Bar for the first time approximately two years ago. My experience was really good. On Mother's Day 2014, I revisited the restaurant but without the same experience. The restaurant smelled like it was cleaned with dirty water. The food was okay but nothing that will cause me to return. "

  • "The food is excellent, the service this time was poor. An assistant server was confused---we watched our appetizer (yummy calamari) pass us a few times, before being served to us. It was still warm, but it would've tasted better had it been delivered 10 mins. earlier. The waiter argued with me over the ingredients for a Mai Tai. He asked me what was in the drink, before even bothering to ask the bartender. I thought it odd. Last month, they had been able to serve me a terrific Mai Tai. Generally, our server was un-attentive. The Trout on black pasta was a fabulous dish, as was the pear and sorbet dessert. The food is so good, we'll be back, and hopefully have the server we had the first time."

  • "Service was awesome, but the food was not worth the price. For $28 a person, I would expect a great brunch. My mother in law's eggs were over done. They were very kind to bring her more eggs, but more than 20 minutes into us eating. The manager stopped by to apologize too and offer us half off her meal for the inconvenience, but then 1/2 off didn't even show up when we got the bill - I had to ask. Everyone elses meals were OK, but honestly, nothing to write home about. Great service and ambiance - poor quality for the price. "

  • "Went to 8407 KB for Mother's Day. Great place, had a mixed fine dining/rustic/quasi industrial vibe to it with an open ceiling exposing the wooden rafters and ducting. Great food, our party of four loved everything. Highly recommend the calamari, it was so good, best we've had and we're big on ordering calamari wherever we go. Cocktails were superb and the desserts were delicious. The view was nothing to write home about as the restaurant overlooks the shameful downtown Silver Spring Metro money pit never ending construction site but with what's going on inside there's no need to look elsewhere. Highly recommend a visit to 8407 KB."

  • "We've enjoyed this restaurant before and were looking forward to a special meal on Mother's Day. The special mother's day menu was very limited, and not at all interesting. They ran out of prime rib, which at the fixed price they were asking was one of the only options on the menu that was appealing. The sandwich I got was just a bland ham and cheese--nothing special about it at all. Pretty disappointing food all around for 2 adults and 2 kids. No drinks and it ran to $100 for cold scrambled eggs, bland ham and cheese, and one very good crab cake. We could have just gone to Eggspectations or some random chain and had a better food experience. I don't think they were equipped to handle Mother's Day at all. "
