  • "It was a special dinner with my old college roomie and friend. I had the Malbec and we split the cheese board. YUM! The scallops were amazing. We had a great time. Can't wait to return! Our waiter was great - so friendly and helpful. Love the ambiance there, the sun coming in the windows but not too much, the lighting and feel were perfect."

  • "Though the name is nondescript, the experience at 8407 is anything but. The bar area is beautifully arranged for easy conversation and comfortable lounging. You can watch TV in one room, or have a more intimate gathering in the other. The bartender is attentive and friendly. Upstairs is a lovely view with large windows. One wall is flanked by large, curved booths that provide privacy, but also allow you to survey the room. The decor is elegant, but grounded. The menu is interesting, but approachable. The food was excellent. The only remotely disappointing part of our recent visit was the server's knowledge of the wine list. Highly recommend. Delighted to have found a slightly upscale restaurant that is not a chain in downtown Silver Spring."

  • "My wife and I were a little disappointed by the pork shank, which was surprising since everything has always been excellent in the past. It was cooked well, but the pork shank itself did not have any seasoning and did not have much flavor. Appetizers, salads, and desserts were fantastic however, and I would definitely come back. But I won't order the pork shank again."

  • "In town to visit a friend and looked for an atmospheric spot with great food. It had both! Drinks at the downstairs bar were very good, nice vibe, good service from the bartender and friendly people. The atmosphere upstairs for dinner was perfect, warm and cozy yet pretty and upscale. Calamari starter was some of the best ever...very good deviled eggs, too. I had tagliatelle with oxtail ragu, delicious. Loved everything except for our server who seemed disinterested and very off-hand. Despite his poor attitude, we loved the place and would certainly go back because everything else was outstanding."

  • "I took my husband here for a surprise birthday dinner with friends and family. It was a very nice experience. The food was excellent! The service was good, but I felt as though the wait person was a little overwhelmed -- we would like to have seen him a little more frequently. However, that was not a show stopper at all and it may be that their policy is to not 'hover.' Lovely experience."

  • "As stated in my star reviews this place is great. Awesome interiors. Fantastic food. Prompt friendly knowledgeable service. The only thing that bugged me was that upon arrival I discovered that there are two distinctly different seating options for couple. A super cush romantic private booth (of which there are 6 or 7) and an exposed less that intimate two top table in the middle of the restaurant (of which there are 7-8) we sat at the table and seeing the booths I became very upset. Of course I asked about being sat at a booth, but alas they were all reserved. I got over it. But when we go again (and I would encourage any one seeking a romantic dinner) to call ahead and specifically reserve a booth. You will not be disappointed."

  • "The menu sounded good, the ingredients interesting, but the execution was poor. The fish was cold, overcooked and dry in the mahi mahi taco. The gnocchi with mushrooms, squash and parmesan was bland and needed much more seasoning. The duck confit salad was just ok - the dressing was uninspired. On the positive side - the roasted beets and baby green salad was good, as were the homemade fries. The wine was excellent although on the pricy side. The service and atmosphere were both pleasant. All in all though, the experience was disappointing. Having dined in many of the Washingtonian's top 100 restaurants, we were all expecting a lot more from the review. Perhaps the b-team was in the kitchen for that lunch?"

Our table was upstairs--quiet enough for conversation but lively enough to feel like a "happening place." Food was fresh and delicious; service was attentive but not over-bearing. On this visit we started with crispy pork belly served amid pickled cucumbers and carrots: after the opening crunch it melted in one's mouth. Mains of steak and pasta in oxtail gravy were equally memorable, cooked perfectly and delivering memorable flavors."

  • "We went there for date night at 5:45, which was the perfect time right before the dinner rush, so it was still quiet. Once the dinner rush came at 6:30 it was hard to hear each other. The food was delicious especially the pulled pork, which had great flavor and tender meat without being saucy and greasy. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is because the services was a little slow, our fries were lukewarm as if they had been sitting, and the waiter did even ask for our drink order until 15 minutes after being seated and he never asked if we wanted a second drink, which we would have ordered, but he did not come back until after we were done with our food."

  • "The highlights of this restaurant are the cocktails, wine, and appetizers. These never fail to please. Especially the Duck Fat Fries. However, each time my main course comes along it's a let-down. The flavors tend to be one-note. I find myself wishing for a touch of shallots, fresh herbs, or acidity to provide contrast to what could be a spectacular dish. The latest example was the Duck Confit salad. The duck leg was nicely crisped and meaty, but the salad was paired with bacon dressing with no sweetness or crunch to balance and the whole experience ended up feeling greasy. On the plus side, the wait staff and atmosphere are always pleasant."

  • "I caught the Sunday brunch. I made a reservation but I felt I was the only one and it wasn't needed. There were about 5 other parties waiting. They seated everyone in the lower lobby and had us wait as they don't seat you until 11:00 am on the dot; this was somewhat disappointing because there was no bartender available in the lower bar area so you can stare out of the window at the Silver Spring Metro Garage that is currently under construction. The Receptionist was nice and courteous. Upstairs seating provided a combination of tables, booths and lots of natural lighting. I had the steak and eggs and the calamari as an appetizer; my date had the 3 egg omelet. They serve you these mini coffee cakes. Worth the trip. I would return."

  • "The food was delicious and nicely prepared. Classic favorites with an upscale twist. Everything was fresh and cooked to order. The house smoked salmon was delicious and nicely presented. I ordered a bloody many and the bartender overheard that I found it too spicy and I comented to my husband I should have just ordered a mimosa.( I had asked about the spice level) and without asking, a mimosa appered! Nice touch. Parking in the city garage next door was also a nice benefit. Try this place."

  • "The fried calamari were greaseless but could have been more crisp. One guest found them rubbery but I did not. My scallops and husband's lamb were perfectly prepared, with excellent vegetables. Nothing was too cutesy. Loved my guest's chocolate peanut butter tart, but they didn't like the curry ice cream and didn't finish. Creme brule had a wonderful creamy texture and crunchy crust, just perfect. Guest loved their soup, which I didn't taste. Entree prices were higher than expected for an intimate bistro in a low-rent location. The broth with the mussels was terrific, but the mussels themselves were a little bland."

The food was perfect. The duck was some of the best I've had and the salmon was cooked perfect. Seared yet juicy. Our only regret was we were too full to try a desert- guess we will have to go back!"

  • "We often go to the 8407 for special occasions, and this was no exception, being my wife's birthday. We like to go before early and enjoy our dinner, so we had a reservation for 6:00. As usual, the service was friendlly and attentive but not pushy, and we took our time ordering appetizers and dinner. Everything was excellent. It started getting pretty busy by the time we left, but it's busy for a good reason. And for us, it's also close to home."
