Diner Reviews
  • "We went on a very warm night and had to sit outside because all of the inside tables were taken. We had walked over and were not too eager to sit outside but it turned out to be very comfortable with fans all over. This was not our first visit and the food was as good as in previous visits although my husband was not thrilled with the sides that were offered. However they were willing to substitute so everyone was happy!"

  • "This restaurant has declined in the past few years. Witnessed people without reservations being seated prior to those with reservations. Had to wait for a table even with a reservation. Hostess didn't have any charm and appeared miserable. Food was not hot and average. Not the quality of the past. Would not recommend and will not return."

  • "Wonderful place to take people for a fabulous low country menu. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. This is my favorite restaurant to take out of town guests."

  • "I dislike giving a review that is conflicted. There were positives but the main negative was the food, which is the biggest reason one dines out. 82 Queen was very charming and the service was spot on. The food sounded promising in it's simplicity but was not seasoned thoroughly throughout all courses."

  • "Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and gave great recommendations. My husband ordered the scallops, which is far from his usual, and loved them. I had the crab cakes which where perfectly full of crab and very little filler. Great outdoor patio!"

  • "Amazing. Love the atmosphere food and service. Great outdoor seating and bar area is good for the wait if needed. Great for couple dining and kid friendly as well. One of Charlestons best restaurants"

  • "Visiting from out of town, we went to 82 Queen on the recommendation from a local friend. Seated in the garden, our server came to the table just after we settled ready to bring us coffee or juice as we looked through the menu. I had the Souther Benedict (country ham and poached eggs on flaky biscuit with Hollandaise). The ham was very flavorful, eggs prepared just as requested and just enough Hollandaise to add to the flavor without drowning it out. My dining partner couldn't decide had the chicken sandwich (with bacon, pimento cheese, and peach coleslaw) which she enjoyed very much. We were very happy with our friend's recommendation and plan to go back when we visit Charleston again."

  • "What a lovely place, especially to introduce those new to Charleston and want an authentic atmosphere. The food is consistently very good and offers something for everyone."

  • "The outdoor patio is very pretty and perfect for a romantic night. The service was great even though they wee very busy. The food however was just ok. The bistro steak was fatty and for $33 I would not have expected. The shrimp and grits were ok. The sweet BBQ sauce on shrimp didn't go well with savory grits. I would go back for he ambience but would try different menu selections."

  • "I was looking forward to eating here, it was highly recommended! Unfortunately we had to eat inside due to the "threat" of rain.....they had a beautiful outdoor romantically lit dining area. It never rained. We were directed to a small dining area and mood and atmosphere was just not the same. Food was good but nothing outstanding. Service was very poor...waitress was friendly but very slow in getting drinks, rolls and dinner. Can't say I would rush back to 82 Queen. :("

  • "I would like to say better things, but cannot. We had reservations: arrived on time at 9:00pm and were seated in a backroom with 4 tables that also contained the server station. We asked the hostess if we could have a more desirable table next to a window or outside in the courtyard, but she said no - even though there were many open tables available. Our experience in that room had all of the charm of a Cracker Barrel. Our server was not interested in telling us anything about the specials or the menu. The food was good, but not outstanding. Overall a very disappointing experience and would not recommend. Rude hostess + bored server + dud room + ok food does not make for a great evening out."

  • "Sitting on the patio is a must, you feel like you are at a garden party with great food. The landscaping gives a sense of privacy. Went for brunch, BF had the "ultimate bloody mary" which he said was one of the best hes had. He ordered bbq shrimp and grits, I ordered the breakfast wrap. He said his food was amazing. Mine had good flavor just a bad concept.. the wrap had eggs, bacon, andouille sausage and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were soggy from being in the wrap and the combo of fried, sausage, bacon made it heavy/greasy.. hangover cure for sure. I dumped everything out of the wrap and picked thru it, too heavy/greasy for me. The cheese grits were amazing.. and I dont even care for grits. They are a must order (and the crab cake!)"

  • "I was seeing good reviews and sounded like my kind of place. My table location was not the best , i had reservations, and service was OK. My real issue was my dish, seared salmon was bland. It was cooked right but had no flavor. The spinach was good, even though it had peanuts instead of almonds like menu said. The everything goat cheese was good as well and paired well with the spinach. My wife's truffle cauliflower steak was really good. The dish doesn't actually have steak in it, so they should consider rewording menu."

  • "Our evening was wonderful. Taylor took very good car of us. The She crab soup was excellent. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the duck. True low country food made our visit to Charleston memorable."

  • "Our annual trip to Charleston hasn't included 82 Queen in quite a while. Well, it will from now on. Great food and service all while dining in shaded comfort. Terrific place for a date. They even have a kids menu so if the young ones are with you, no problem."

  • "My husband and I have enjoyed 82 Queen in the past. We were so disappointed in recent dinner. We were seated inside - a small room. There was another party ( 3 persons) on diners that were incredibly loud and unruly. It was obvious they had too much to drink yet the wait staff continued to serve them. There was an 40 minute gap between when our salad was served and when our entrees arrived. It was so loud we could talk. A disaster. We had out of town guests.. It was just awful."

  • "We had a very enjoyable and romantic dinner while vacationing in Charleston in June. We were shown first to a table in a downstairs room. After sitting there for a couple of minutes, we realized that the background noise was too loud for our comfort. The staff graciously showed us to an upstairs room and a quiet table. Very pleasant. Wendell was our server and he was wonderful."

  • "We had brunch here. We did make reservations, it did get somewhat busy so I would recommend reservations. The ambience was very nice. The service was great, the food was quite good. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Charleston. I cannot speak to any other meals, but brunch was great!"

  • "We were seated immediately upon our arrival across the hall from a large, rambunctious group. Thankfully, our waiter assisted us in moving to the courtyard, where we enjoyed a relatively quiet meal in a beautiful setting. I had a pork chop with collard greens and fried Mac-n-cheese. My husband had swordfish over arugula with a peach compote and risotto. The food was delicious in a down-home cooking way. My pork was slightly overcooked; I had requested medium and received it medium-well. However it was juicy, seasoned well, and tender; so no complaints here. My husband's dish would have benefited from additional vegetables. This is the place to go for a tasty, hearty meal in a quaint, decidedly Charleston setting!"

  • "The courtyard was quite lovely in the early evening. Our server was very helpful and demonstrated a deep knowledge of the menu and wine list. All of the servers seemed to be very happy and enjoying their work. They were present when we needed them and left us alone otherwise. My wife ordered duck and I ordered swordfish, and both dishes exceeded our expectations, as did our dessert. It was a very enjoyable experience and we highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The restaurant is quaint and situated beside two other terrific restaurants. It's known for she-crab soup and BBQ shrimp and grits. The meal was super heavy but delicious. This type of food fits best in cooler months rather than 98 degree summer dining. It is worth a visit because its delicious, a landmark and has a great patio bar."

  • "Have raved about 82 Queen for years. This visit felt like the restaurant was on auto pilot. The food was good (crab cakes for everyone) but not worth raving about. The service was good but without energy or enthusiasm."

  • "We always enjoy dining in Charleston... 82 Queen has been good to us every time we visit there. Our nephew is in training at the Naval Nuclear training base in Goose Creek, SC. We wanted to visit him and treat him to a landmark Charleston dining experience... He loved everything! The She Crab soup was fantastic; We shared a crab cake appetizer...and he had difficulty finding the right words to express how much he loved it. Then we each ordered a different seafood entrée, and they were superior as well. Five stars from us! The patio dining was beautiful and just delightful. Finally, our waiter, Michael was top-notch. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "I absolutely loved the courtyard seating, it was outdoors with some indoor elements, such as ceiling fans. Our server was very friendly, and we felt very welcome from the moment we sat down to the end of the meal. The food was delicious, we just wished we'd had room for dessert. Will DEFINITELY return here next time we're in Charleston."

  • "We have no complaints but having just experienced an outstanding meal at Graze the previous evening, nothing could compete. It almost is not fair, but that is why there are rating scales. Hubby had the shrimp and grits and they were moderately above average (better than the ones at the kitbar back home in Maryland), but they should be. He thought the she crab soup was a little above average. I had the okra soup and the jambalaya and, although spicy, I thought both were excellent - tasty and filling. The ham bits in the jambalaya were a nice touch. We have been vacationing here for the week and would rate both Graze (in Mt. Pleasant) and The Swamp Fox (where we ate tonight) better than 82 Queen."

  • "We got a side of biscuits and jam and they were the best biscuits I have ever had. The crab cake benedict was also excellent, The crab cakes were done Maryland style so all crab meat. The jambalaya was full of seafood and perfectly spiced."
