  • "This time around -- just felt like an out of date steakhouse that is showing why they are not packed on a Friday night. Ambiance great. Selections on the menu great. Taste, quality and cooking of food - mediocre at best. Service - average. Onion rings...let's say these look amazing, and actually tasted good. the problem -- they left the onion skin on prior to breading and cooking which meant -- you had to pull all of the breading off, remove the skin, and try to scoop up some breading and remain real onion to eat it. Just a mess. Dayboat scallops-- LOOKED amazing -- huge scallops - appeared to be seared to perfection. Take one bite of each one..and they are all OVERCOOKED. Husbands ribeye -- expected a really great steak-- just average."

If you can't find something you like on the list, ask the server. He recommended a Argentine Merlot, that was not on the wine list, that was very good. I liked the décor, very elegant"

  • "Back on Valentine's Day 2014 my girlfriend I went to 801 Chophouse. It was amazing food and service. Since we loved it so much, we decided to return for our one year anniversary. Sadly, neither of us were that impressed with the food this time. She ordered a Caesar salad as she did on Valentine's Day but this time the dressing had a very strong fish taste. We mentioned it to out waitress who profusely apologized, told chef, and removed it form our bill. For dinner she ordered the Shellfish plate and while it was still delicious, there wasn't as much food on it as on Valentine's Day--maybe they were doing a V-Day special and we were unaware? Then her lobster tail was overcooked and left an odd taste similar to smelling ammonia."

The sides (scalloped Potatoes and Cream peas -minus the onions) were delicious and the key lime pie with pina colada sorbet was perfect. This night out was for our Anniversary (I noted this when making reservations and wondered if anyone paid attention to this, as other places have NOT). When we were seated there was a beautiful red rose and table confetti in the shape of hearts, also the menus said Happy Anniversary across the top. A very nice touch in my opinion. Alittle pricey for us to go regularly but definetly worth it for a special occasion."

Christo Charles was our server and he was attentive (but never intrusive), accommodating, extremely well versed on the menu, wines, etc... Great wine list, as well as many high end, out of the ordinary, brands of various whiskeys (scotch, rye, bourbon, etc). It is an expensive, but exceptional dining experience. We split the 801 Chophouse salad, each had the filet-(med. rare), and the half portions of the Lyonnaise and Maytag blue cheese potatoes. Everything was delicious. We had the Raspberry Point oysters to start-so fresh and tasty! Sourdough bread had a perfect crunch to the crust, then warm, moist, sourdough heaven in the middle. We will be back!"

  • "Our children reserved this restaurant for us for our 40th wedding anniversary. It was our first dining experience at 801 Chophouse and we were amazed. The management and staff treated us with such enthusiasm and wished us "Happy Anniversary" numerous times. Our personal waiter actually made the evening the memorable event that it was. He was amazing, suggesting wines, menu choices, etc. Our table was decorated with heart confetti and the menu had Happy 40th anniversary at the top. Our chocolate dessert was served on a white dessert plate with "Happy 40th Anniversary" drizzled in chocolate on it. The food was superb and the KC Stockyard décor thrilled us as farming and ranching are our life! It was such a wonderful experience!"

  • "The food was good, but not worth the money. We spent $275 (before tip) for 2 people. And get this, we split an entree and had 2 glasses of wine each. Be wary of the items that the server mentions that are not on the menu...the server tells you about them, but doesn't mention the price. Be sure to ask so that you don't choke when the bill arrives. Our server was great! All that said, I will acknowledge the food was good...but I think next time I'll go to Plaza III, Majestic or J. Gilberts and enjoy the food just as much for a third of the price. "

  • "We went to 801 Chophouse last year for our anniversary and loved it. So we decided to make it a tradition and went again this year. They had the table decorated with confetti hearts and a print out of their menu with "Happy Anniversary" written on it. Plus, everyone that came by made sure to congratulate us. Our waiter was excellent and didn't steer us wrong with our food selection. Everything was delicious and once again, it was the best steak I have ever had. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be returning!!"

  • "We went here for our 32 anniversary everything was great except the steak. For $42 I expect it to have good texture and be full of juice. The steak was cook med to med rare but was dry, it was like a steak that had been frozen. Very disappointed the meal at J Alexander is much better for 40 percent less. We should have know when we walked in and the place was empty. "

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal, one of the best we have ever enjoyed. The server was exceptionally capable, and served us with a careful balance of attention and discerning timeliness. It was our 50th anniversary meal, and lived up to our hopes and expectations. The only downside was a very packed cocktail party that developed after we arrived and had been served. We would have preferred seating away from the noise and distraction, but otherwise, it was an exceptional evening! We will return for another special occasion dinner, but will more carefully choose our seating."
