  • "The service was excellent, and I loved the food. Can't wait to go back"

  • "We shared the KC Strip and it was done to perfection. Smoky-charred flavor and tender inside. The mushrooms and green beans were excellent. Really enjoyed the scalloped potatoes. Service was great but it wasn't too busy."

  • "My husband and I went for the first time a few days ago. It was a very good food experience; our waiter was very attentive, and knowledgeable about cuts of meat and the menu in general. Our steaks were prepared just right, and the salads and sides we ordered were delicious. Because it is pricey, I would save this restaurant for special occasions."

  • "Try the bone-in filet. A special treat! Extremely flavorful!! Half-orders of side dishes are recommended..."

  • "The Maryland Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and Pancetta wrapped Scallops were unbelievably delicious!"

  • "This was a return trip on the house, due to comedy of errors on an earlier visit. Far exceeded expectations in every way. Pork chops were excellent."

  • "Everything was great, however,I ordered prime rib and and found the quality and taste to be far below standard fare. We were with important clients and I did not want to make an issue with your staff. I do not make a practice of sending a dish back to the kitchen. You can rest assured that I will not be ordering this dish from you again."

  • "Our steak and prime rib were both absolutely superb, on a par with the very best in Kansas City. The other dishes were outstanding."

  • "Service was excellent and server was informative. I tried the Seafood combo platter, for the price I did not feel it was all that great. I expected to be buttery and it was tough. The sides (scalloped Potatoes and Cream peas -minus the onions) were delicious and the key lime pie with pina colada sorbet was perfect. This night out was for our Anniversary (I noted this when making reservations and wondered if anyone paid attention to this, as other places have NOT). When we were seated there was a beautiful red rose and table confetti in the shape of hearts, also the menus said Happy Anniversary across the top. A very nice touch in my opinion. Alittle pricey for us to go regularly but definetly worth it for a special occasion."

  • "overpriced menu and wine list. Prime Rib and fillet not exceptional"

  • "All was set up for a special birthday celebration. The prix fixe dinner on Sunday evening is a good deal but the wine list is expensive."

  • "Excellent restaurant--enjoyed the food, ambience, service."

  • "The manager set up my date and I for a nice romantic evening; Even put a rose on the table. The service was amazing and the food quite tasty. Everything was ready when we arrived. I would recommend the Chop house"

  • "The quality of the food was fantastic, but they seared the prime rib which I was not expecting. I would have preferred it without the sear, but everything was very good."

  • "We went for our anniversary. Our waitress was super nice and knowledgable."

  • "Steak was ok but not great and the sides lacked flavor and were drowned in butter. Very disappointed - Now I know why the place wasn't busy on a Friday night."

  • "The food was delicious and good quality. We will certainly return some time but only for a special occasion or with a discount. The service staff was first rate and very attentive."

  • "Some of the best food I've ever had. Bone Marrow Butter wash on the steak is to-die-for. Quite pricey if you go for all courses and some drinks, but if this is an issue you can skip some of the add-ons. Just go for the filet and the scalloped potatoes. Service is excellent."

  • "Classic steakhouse vibe, elegant, classic decor. Impeccable service. Christo Charles was our server and he was attentive (but never intrusive), accommodating, extremely well versed on the menu, wines, etc... Great wine list, as well as many high end, out of the ordinary, brands of various whiskeys (scotch, rye, bourbon, etc). It is an expensive, but exceptional dining experience. We split the 801 Chophouse salad, each had the filet-(med. rare), and the half portions of the Lyonnaise and Maytag blue cheese potatoes. Everything was delicious. We had the Raspberry Point oysters to start-so fresh and tasty! Sourdough bread had a perfect crunch to the crust, then warm, moist, sourdough heaven in the middle. We will be back!"

  • "Our children reserved this restaurant for us for our 40th wedding anniversary. It was our first dining experience at 801 Chophouse and we were amazed. The management and staff treated us with such enthusiasm and wished us "Happy Anniversary" numerous times. Our personal waiter actually made the evening the memorable event that it was. He was amazing, suggesting wines, menu choices, etc. Our table was decorated with heart confetti and the menu had Happy 40th anniversary at the top. Our chocolate dessert was served on a white dessert plate with "Happy 40th Anniversary" drizzled in chocolate on it. The food was superb and the KC Stockyard décor thrilled us as farming and ranching are our life! It was such a wonderful experience!"

  • "We went to 801 Chophouse last year for our anniversary and loved it. So we decided to make it a tradition and went again this year. They had the table decorated with confetti hearts and a print out of their menu with "Happy Anniversary" written on it. Plus, everyone that came by made sure to congratulate us. Our waiter was excellent and didn't steer us wrong with our food selection. Everything was delicious and once again, it was the best steak I have ever had. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be returning!!"

  • "The food was good, but not worth the money. We spent $275 (before tip) for 2 people. And get this, we split an entree and had 2 glasses of wine each. Be wary of the items that the server mentions that are not on the menu...the server tells you about them, but doesn't mention the price. Be sure to ask so that you don't choke when the bill arrives. Our server was great! All that said, I will acknowledge the food was good...but I think next time I'll go to Plaza III, Majestic or J. Gilberts and enjoy the food just as much for a third of the price. "

  • "Great service with attentive wait staff. While the steak was cooked properly, it was tasteless. Disappointed for such an expensive meal. "

  • "We went here for our 32 anniversary everything was great except the steak. For $42 I expect it to have good texture and be full of juice. The steak was cook med to med rare but was dry, it was like a steak that had been frozen. Very disappointed the meal at J Alexander is much better for 40 percent less. We should have know when we walked in and the place was empty. "

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal, one of the best we have ever enjoyed. The server was exceptionally capable, and served us with a careful balance of attention and discerning timeliness. It was our 50th anniversary meal, and lived up to our hopes and expectations. The only downside was a very packed cocktail party that developed after we arrived and had been served. We would have preferred seating away from the noise and distraction, but otherwise, it was an exceptional evening! We will return for another special occasion dinner, but will more carefully choose our seating."

  • "This has become my favorite place for a perfect steak and wonderful wine in Kansas City. The service is always exceptional, the wine is always spectacular, and the food is wonderful beyond description. I will definitely be dining here as often as I can."

  • "We have been to this location before and we pleased with the service but this past visit was a different story. We chose to sit in a booth at the bar to be near a window. We saw the bar tender and host at our table more than our server. We waiting a long time for our entrees with no apologies for the wait. Our water glasses say empty for long periods of time. It would have been better if he had at least acknowledged the subpar service and apologized. By the end of our meal someone (who was clearly his superior) came out with him to get our plates and looked frustrated but again no apologies to us. We went to 801 Chophouse to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we most likely will not be returning to the Leawood location."

  • "waiter told me that the angel and the Angel Envy was the same price as the 801 Manhattan. Turned out it was $5 more per drink. Found that odd it was his unsolicited suggestion outside of that great meal good service"

  • "When I made the reservation, I simply typed in the remarks that we were celebrating our 35th Anniversary. When we arrived, the great folks at 801 Chophouse had decorated the table with confetti hearts, customized our 35th Anniversary menus, and provided my wife with a rose. What a surprise! We were blown away. Our waiter was absolutely fantastic, along with every detail of our evening. Maryland Lump Crab cakes, Caesar Salad, Copper River Salmon, Delmonico Steak, Baked Potato (REALLY loaded), Baked creamed spinach. Perfectly prepared and presented. The final touch, served with our Creme Brulee and Expresso Martini, was Congratulations scripted in chocolate on the plate. Thanks to the staff for making our celebration an enchanted evening."

  • "It was my first time at 801 Chophouse. I took my husband for his birthday. The staff exceeded our expectations with the service they provided and extra touches like putting "Happy Birthday" on our menus and decorating the table. The food was amazing. My husband had a steak and I had salmon. We left very full and happy. "

  • "My wife and I dined at 801 Chop house for the first time. We made a reservation on their website (via OpenTable), and simply noted in the comments section that it was our anniversary. They took if from there; when we arrived - the table was decorated with confetti, a rose, and a specially printed menu with a 'Happy Anniversary' printed on it. Very unexpected but a very nice touch! The wine list was extensive - and the steaks that we ordered were some of the best that we've had. This was a great place for a nice evening out - although it was a bit pricey. Would definitely recommend to friends & family!"

  • "Excellent for special occasions, perfect for first impressive date, wonderful area outside to walk around. However, we had reservation for 5:30 and it did not seem horribly busy, and yet we were seated in the bar section - not the restaurant side. My 86 year old mother was with us and it was very loud and distracting. The counterside to this was that we could look out the window and watch people. So it was not the table-conversation spot for our particular needs but the food was excellent. "

  • "We took my parents there for their first visit. We were early and they seated us immediately which was great. The waiter was informative but pushy on what he wanted us to have. The first time at 801 Chophouse we didn't mesh well with our waiter. The food was good overall, steaks cooked exactly as we asked. The waiter kept our wine glasses full and his service was good to make sure we had what we needed. However, when we reached dessert he didn't offer us a dessert menu and said he ordered two desserts for our table. When he came back my husband asked for the dessert menu...unfortunately what he brought us would not have been what we picked. We were pretty disappointed in ending our visit on that note. We are dessert people!"

  • "Server seemed apathetic. Had to ask another server for my drink. Our server seemed to disappear for long stretches. Food was excellent once it arrived but took forever. For the prices, the service really should be top notch. Plus, the noise on there sullied any opportunity for dinner conversation, let alone romance. "

  • "Our dinner at the restaurant could not have been better. The food was outstanding as usual and the service was really great. Our server was Paige and she waited on us with the perfect amount of service and attention without being too attentive that would be intrusive. She was pleasant, gave good suggestions and her expertise added to our enjoyment of the evening. The morel mushrooms were fabulous, as was every dish we ordered."
