The server was very knowledgeable of the menu and did a nice job in helping order appetizers for the group. All of the group very much enjoyed the evening until we got to the desert portion. We waited over 20 minutes for the deserts to be delivered after they were ordered without any explanation. Also, when we were leaving the restaurant, we had to again wait for over 20 minutes for our cars to be retrieved from valet. If the area had been full of people, I might have anticipated a wait, but that was not the case the evening we were there. The sides are more than enough to share between 2-3 people. Start your meal with a Moscow Mule, served in a copper mug. Fantastic meal all around. But with a great steakhouse experience, be prepared for great steakhouse prices. Both were excellent. The sides are huge so we shared the garlic mashed potatoes. The shrimp appetizer we shared was very good!
The decor is dark mahogany. To me, it has that old steakhouse feel. Service was top notch!

And Chophouse certainly belongs to the top tier of steak restaurants I had a chance to visit. We have been a group of 7 and enjoyed very much an opportunity to sit in a separate, confined area, allowing discussion without being disturbed. Good ambiance, very knowledgable waiter, good selection of starters, very appealing wine list, good choice of seafood and fishes (in a steak place!!!) and very well prepared meats - medium rear was truly rear and not overcooked as it is the case in most places! There were even some lamb and veal dishes available - very rear in US. We frequent K.C. quite often through out the year and we have been looking for that quintessential steakhouse for some time. Many were very good but the 801 Chophouse is it!! The food is absolutely mouthwateringly amazing!! Steak was perfect, and the seafood was second to none! The waitress Camille was just incredible! She was great with the kids and they thought she was great! I highly recommend the 801 Chophouse! The only reason I gave ambiance a four was because I grew up on the Hereford House on 20th and Main and as much as the ambiance was like the Herford it is a little more upscale. We save this place for once a year stop because it is not inexpensive but it is well worth the expense! Go, relax and savor the ambience and food.
