Diner Reviews
  • "This was our 2nd time. We loved the first visit except the prime rib (which was huge) was not as good as I had hoped. This time we tried the fried calamari and it was the best I've ever eaten; outstanding! The boursin mashed potatoes and creamed corn were very good. The pineapple sorbet was excellent! Our medium ribeye (I like med-rare, but the wife likes medium) looked a little thin and was overcharred, but still cooked to medium as ordered. I like a good char, but not burned. My wife said it looked and tasted burned to her. I also expected a more tender ribeye for prime. We shared the steak and it wasn't bad, but for a $52 steak, I want it to be a lot better than what I've made in the past at home on my own grill."

  • "This was our frist trip to 801 Chophouse. Everything we had from the lobster corndogs to our steak was amazing. Cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. Server was very nice and I never had to ask for a refill on my drink! We will for sure add this to our list of top places to eat in Omaha!"

  • "This is the only restaurant in the Omaha area that serves prime beef.....excellent. Service, food and atmosphere are top notch."

  • "Food is the best steak spot in town. Service was excellent, knowledgable, and provided the right balance between needs and to much presence. With the preface that I am older both chronologically and in expectations, I believe there should be a minimum dress code--shorts, tee shirts and the like detract from the exclusivity of the experience. , particularly in the context of the prices. This is an expensive restaurant for Omaha. There has been a great deal of personnel turnover. Hopefully not sounding arrogant, as someone who has frequented the restaurant many times since it's opening, it always strikes me that other than the few long terms employees, I do not feel welcomed as a long term client."

  • "This is probably my 15th time at 801 Chophouse and every time I go I am impressed all over again. On this visit, our server, Michael, was incredible and tailored the service directly to us. He was fun and friendly to joke around with, but also had the professionalism that you would expect from such as place. When he told us the specials for the evening and how incredible they were, you could tell that he had tried them before and was giving his honest recommendation."

  • "The beef is outstanding. And this time of year the corn is too."

  • "We had an excellent time-It was a redemption as our last visit here was a disaster, Our previous experience our waitress didn't put in our order. After an hour of waiting and seeing other tables served and also trying to see our waitress to ask, the mgr came to our table to explain what had happened. No compensation was given--we had to leave with no food to attend a performance at the Holland, hungry. Our waitress this time was very good and was experienced. The only reason we even gave it a second try is our son/daughter-n-law had a nice time a few months previously. The first visit could have been handled much better by this restaurant. I will also say we received our Open Table conf the next morning after our dinner. Not timely."

  • "We made reservations for dinner on our anniversary and it was a perfect evening. Our server did an excellent job and the food was perfectly prepared. We received a Happy Anniversary card along with a $25 gift certification which we will definitely use on our next visit. The personalized menu even had Happy Anniversary printed professionally on top. I will definitely return again and again."

  • "Class all around, wonderful service, Lloyd was our server, very helpful, not intrusive, very professional. Jake, the manager, came to our table and asked how the food and service was, a nice touch. The steaks were some of the best I have tasted in Omaha, the panchetta wrapped scallops melted in my mouth. The Maytag (blue cheese) potatoes were fabulous. We also had the chocolate soufflé and it was very good too. This is fine dining...excellent service...nice presentations, and a very classy establishment. Highly recommended!!!"

  • "The food is always great here. We tried the prime rib for the first time. The waitress recommended a "dry rub" preparation. It was a fantastic suggestion that resulted in the best prime rib we've ever had."

  • "The food is very good, however overpriced. The food is no better than the Zin room or Sullivan's, two of our favorites that are more reasonably priced. The cheapest bottle of wine on the wine list is $65 so be prepared to spend $200 for two people if you want a bottle of wine with your meal. If you want appetizers or salad add another $50."

  • "My husband and I dined at 801 Chophouse for our anniversary. We were thrilled to have "happy anniversary" written in chocolate on our desert plate, a card wishing us many more years of happiness along with a $25 giftcard. We were so impressed by the service, and how the staff made our evening so special. We will never forget the wonderful experience we had."

  • "The food is overpriced here for the quality of the food. It is a good steak but not great, the flavor was not there like I have experienced at a Ruth's Chris, Flemings or Mortons."

  • "The food was fantastic. We had made an online reservation and arrived early. We were seating immediately and given water quickly. It took a few minutes for our server to arrive. We mentioned we had never dined there before but he didn't describe the menu too in-depth- did note that the sides were sized for sharing- but not many other details. The sides were delicious and definitely big enough to share. We had heard about the chocolate souffle and ordered immediately as it takes 45 minutes (also sized to share). Our meals came much quicker than expected and the time between our meal and dinner was perfect. The chocolate souffle was amazing! Overall a great experience but you must be prepared to spend the money for this quality food"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our night at 801 very much. The waiter was very professional and knowledgable about the food. It was our first time patonizing the restaurant so we werent sure what to expect. We were very satisfied with the portions and taste. The bone-in ribeye ($62) was very good and her KC strip($58) was equally delicious. The only hesitation we had was the price. The food is on the pricey side, especially with everything being ala carte. It is a restaurant that we would try again but with the cost, it will probably be once a year or for a special occasion. But it is definetly a restaurant that I would recommend to others to try."

  • "This was the third time my wife and I dined at 801, and it was by far the best. We had the best pork belly we have ever had anywhere as our appetizer. It was plated with corn cakes and corn salsa that made for one of the most amazing bites of food you could take. The steaks were cooked very well, as well as the sides. The service was personal and made for the feeling that we were the only people in the restaurant, but look around and you see that the server has a full work load. That requires great skill of the server. I look forward to dining at 801 again."

  • "First time dinning at the Chophouse. Mike our waiter knew everything on the menu to a T as well as the fine wine list to go with it. The food was everything and then some to want Mike had described. From the whole staff constantly checking not only on us, but everyone else dinning. It was a team concept with everyone to ensure everyone had an enjoyable evening. Everything we had ever heard of about the Chophouse, it was that and then some. We will be back again. The staff over all,,,,,,OUTSTANDING, the food,,,,,SUPERB."

  • "It was our 25th marriage anniversary. My wife selected the steak place after a thorough research about the best steak place in Omaha. She was not wrong. The place was a nice, typical steak place with low light ambiance. Making reservation on-line was very easy and convenient. We were attended as soon as we entered the place. The server was courteous, but we wish she had a bit more knowledge about various dishes served in the place. Nevertheless, she served us promptly, and we had a really good time. I recommend this place to anyone who loves good steak and a nice place to enjoy a dinner."

  • "We had great service once again at the 801 Chophouse. We decided to try the Prix-Fixe menu and found it to be decent. The prime rib was really good and tender, but the other options were lacking a little. The petite filet was a little tougher than a filet should be, but the quality of the flavor was good as usual. The salmon, although good was very lacking on the sides provided compared to the other options on the prix fixe. We did have a child with us, and they worked with us to get her a small portion of the macaroni and cheese, which was absolutely delicious. I look forward to returning to 801, but I will make sure I order from the regular menu from now on."

  • "The seafood was amazing. The crab was huge and the shrimp were wonderful. The steak was cooked perfects and very tender. The only complaint I have is that we had a table in the center of the room. The noise level was very loud. Next time I will be asking for a booth."

  • "While the Delmonico steak inside was the requested medium rare, the surface of the steak was charred beyond being able to see any grill marks. The notion that searing meat "locks in the juices" is an old myth. Searing meat gives color and flavor…. resting after cooking pulls the juices back in…charring meat not only gives the meat a bitter burnt flavor, it actually dries the meat out and mine was exactly that. An establishment that claims to be a superior "steak house" should know that. The wait staff was superb…very professional…and the ambience delightful. The side dishes were excellent as well. The steak, unfortunately, was quite disappointing."

  • "Have only been here a couple of times. This visit dissapointed in the wine list, the average price way too high for a bottle. Limited selection under $200.00. I am fairly experienced with wine and you do not need to spend $200 ++ to get a good bottle. Also, the food was not as I would expect. Was ok just not great. Price for a steak at $42.00 is higher than its two main competitiors and not as good. Side dishes just ok as well."

  • "We've eaten at quite a few of the "high end" steak houses in America. I'd rank 801 Chophouse in the top 25%. They're steaks are not as good as Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn, my benchmark. They are much better than Ruth's Chris and Morton's, the more popular chains. I'd put them on par with Met Grill (Seattle) and the Capital Grill (DC) for quality of steak but they cooked the steaks better here at 801. We found them on the higher end of the price scale, maybe a little too high. I say this because they're about the same price as Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn, which as I said was better, but combine that with the fact that they're in Omaha and I would have expected then to be about 5-10% less. That being said we'd still go back."

  • "My wife and I returned to the 801 for a private celebration of our son's 1st birthday (his first experience in fine dining). We opted for an early evening dinner, just to be on the safe side with a todler. The staff was, as usual, amazing! The food is always exceptional, but the staff always does everything possible to make the evening wonderful."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "The food was pretty good albeit crazy expensive. The menu is all a la carte so expect to spend $50+ on a cut of meat and $15 for a side (although they serve two). The service was so so. It was very clear that our server was focused on the table next to us because they were running up thier bill and he was hoping for a big tip. At the end it was so ridiculous that we had to just leave cash in the bill and walk away because it was clear that he was not coming back anytime soon. Again the food was good but not good enough to justify the prices. Once in a lifetime so won’t be going back"

  • "The food here is good---steak medallions, prime rib, grilled asparagus, salads---but not worth the price on the menu. Even with a $45-off coupon, it was an expensive meal for just "good" food. The atmosphere is great and reminiscent of an old chophouse, and the staff and service were fine. Save it for a special occasion splurge."

  • "We went there for my birthday using a Groupon, and even with it, the meal did not quite justify the tab. The food and the overall experience were good, but not special. For the money, we prefer Mahogany."

  • "We stopped by for a business dinner and we were thrilled with food. We ordered a mix of sea food and stakes, with several different sides, and we were thrilled with all of our choices. We will definitely visit again if we find ourselves in Omaha for business."

  • "I enjoyed the food, however if was a little expensive. Thus, I probably will not return. It was very busy so I wouldn't change anything. People obviously love it and feel the price is worth it. : )."
